Just so you all know I don't live in Virginia so I have no idea about venues or anything like that so I just made up my own with The Mystic Gardens.

Mackenzie Mikaelson

Chapter 18 ~ Planning

I DO NOT OWN THE VAMPIRE DAIRES!

Hi Mackenzie, would you possibly be free to meet up today so we could talk about the party for you and Erik.-Caroline.

Reluctantly, I slipped out of my cozy bed and walked to my brothers room. It was 10 in the morning on a Saturday so he should be up by now. On my part it was probably not the wisest decision but I just walked right into his room without knocking. He was watching TV but Kol told me one day when I did that he'd be busy with a girl.

Just for that Dad had slapped him on the back of the head. It was pretty comical. I had muttered something about that girl being Kylie earning a stern glare from Erik. He knew it could happen one day.

"Can I help you?" Erik didn't even bother moving from his position. I walked over to his bed and laid on top of the covers. Damn, his blankets were comfortable.

"What are you doing?"

"I was watching The Pacifier before you came in." He noted giving me a side look.

"Well then." I pouted but I could not help but crack a smile. "Caroline texted me. Are you going to actually help with this 16th birthday thing or just show up?" I already knew the answer but I decided to ask anyways.

"I'll just show up."

"Well, what's our theme? Can you at least help me with that."

Erik shrugged. His face scrunched and he leaned back. Putting my head right next to his, I put on the camera and took a picture of us.

I'm free anytime today.-Mackenzie.

"We have to at least come up with that. I told her I'm free today so we could plan it more."

"It can't be boring." Erik commented.

"No shit."

A few seconds past by. "Candy Land?!" I suggested. It would be fun and it would give me an excuse to digest a whole bunch of candy.

Before he could respond Kol was sitting on the edge of the bed. "I prefer to not have to told your hair while you puke your brains out in the toilet afterward sweets."

"You make it seem like we're going to be drinking."

"Saint Elijah would never allow that. Your lucky he isn't here right now. I am sure he would not approve of your choice of words a few minutes ago."

I shrugged. I would get scolded not grounded. "Where is he anyways?"

"No idea. He went out earlier. You know he's very secretive never spilling the beans on where he is going."

Ignoring him Erik went on, "Masquerade?"

"We went to one of those already. We gotta be original." I thought about it for a minute before saying, "Winter Wonderland?"

"Too girly. Cassino?"

"We went to one of those too Erik." It was very fun, I got my gambling on and everything. "I want us to be Original."

"You're looking at an Original," Kol said with a grin causing me to roll my eyes.

"I don't know Kenz." He had a blank look on his face for a second. "Alright, um … you like Gatsby don't you."

It clicked. I grinned at him and hugged him awkwardly. "You do pay attention to me!" Well, at least sometimes he does. "Back on track though, 1920's … Great Gatsby theme."

"Yeah that's fine."

"But do you like it?" Even if he wasn't going to be involved in the whole planning thing I want him to at least agree with me on the theme.

"Yeah it's fine. Now go work your magic."

"And you think I have magic," my voice went up and I hugged him again squeezing him tighter.

And then he said, "You can leave now." I squeezed him for a few more seconds before letting go and climbing off of his bed, I went around Kol walking to the door.

"Kenz."

Turning around I faced Erik. "Yeah?"

"Don't post that picture."

"Of course not." I was so posting it.

On Facebook and Instagram.

"This is going to be so much fun." Caroline picked me up from my house around 11. I rushed for a shower before changing. She had mentioned in a text going out of town to have lunch. I put on a LOVE PINK Varsity Crew, yoga pants and UGGS. I left my hair out and it was still a little wet on the ends from my shower. When Caroline texted me that she was outside I grabbed my phone and crossbody, which I had filled with some spare cash and stuff leaving the house.

The car ride wasn't really even that awkward. Well not as awkward as it would have been a few months ago. To say that we were now comfortable around each other would be truthful however we weren't 100% there yet. Since we were going out of town we went to the mall which was about an hour away. There was a Cheesecake Factory and I was happy to eat there. They had some of the most amazing food. Thankfully, it didn't take long for us to get seated. We had a booth by the window where you could see an entrance to the mall.

"Hi, I'm Crystal and I will be serving you today. Can I get you anything to drink?"

Caroline looked at me, she nodded her head for me to go first. "Can I have a coke please."

"Sure. And you?"

"I'll take a peach tea."

"No problem. I'll be right back with that." She walked off with her hair swinging back and forth. I wondered sometimes if that's how my hair looked when I had it up in a pony tail.

"Have you been here before?" Caroline asked.

I nodded. "We came here for our Field Hockey team dinner."

"That's nice. How has basketball been?" I smiled at her question.

"It's been great. So far this season we have only lost two games. Hopefully we make the playoffs."

"I think you will. I've seen you play Mackenzie. I'm not just being modest, but you are good."

I bit the inside of my cheek, trying hard not to blush. "Thanks. How are the little rascals?"

Caroline laughed. "Oh they're great, keeping Klaus busy today."

"That should be fun."

"I'm sure however I'm sure he is going to hate changing Amelia's pampers."

I chuckled. I could not see him changing a pamper.

Nope, still couldn't see it.

"Well, I'm sorry that we're missing that."

"As am I. What's Erik up to?"

I shrugged, "No idea. He is probably just going to play video games all day. Knowing Erik he did his homework yesterday."

Caroline frowned. "Did you have homework? I'm sorry, I didn't even think about that."

I put up my hand to stop her. "Don't worry about it. I don't have a lot and I will do it later. My philosophic point of view on that is that as long as I have it done before class, it shouldn't matter when I do it."

She chuckled. "That's probably the only thing I don't miss about high school."

"Here are your drinks," Crystal spoke coming back. "Are you ready to order or not yet?"

"Just another minute," Caroline commented and Crystal nodded telling us she'd be right back.

"Do you want an appetizer?" Caroline asked me and I flipped to that page in my menu looking to see what they had.

After taking a look I spoke, "Parmesan-Garlic Cheese Bread?"

"Sure. Sounds wonderful."

I nodded. If there was one thing I could do it was eat and I was hungry so why not.

About a minute later, Crystal came back. We placed in our order and meals. Caroline got Hibachi Steak while I ordered grilled Pork Chop with Mashed Potatoes and Spinach.

"So have you and Erik been thinking about themes for the party?"

I nodded excited. "We decided this morning to do a 1920's , Great Gatsby sort of thing."

Her face lit up like a light bulb. "You like the 1920's?"

I nodded. "After World War 1and World War 2 it's my favorite thing to learn about in History."

She nodded with a small smile on her face. "Alright now problem." Pulling out a notebook she started to write stuff down.

"So after that what else do we need?" I wondered. I was sure about guest lists and stuff but she seemed like a pro party planner to me.

"We need to get invitations for you and Erik, a guest list, venue, catering and then we'll need your dress and Erik's tux."

I nodded. Sounded complicated but fun.

"We can have your invitations customized." Caroline said with a smile.

"What do you mean?"

"I mean we can a photos hoot with you and Erik and have your picture on there and everything."

I nodded. That sounded really cool to be honest. "I'm down for that. And I'm sure Erik won't care either way."

"Where should we have it?" I wondered. "I mean I'm sure there are plenty of places in town to have a venue."

Caroline smirked. "Do you know how many people will go out of their way to host this party?"

I knew exactly what she was talking about. "You mean to impress my father?"

Caroline nodded. "Yes. Even if it's just for catering people will go out of their way."

"They all want to impress him?" Caroline nodded at my question.

"But why?"

Caroline shrugged. "He's wealthy. If he spreads word about them their business can be booming."

She had a good point.

"A simple way to break it down is the number of people."

"Well," I had to think considering between Erik and I were there's a lot of people. "Obviously our family is a must and that includes the Salvatore/Bennett clan." Caroline nodded as I continued, "And then between Erik and my friends that's a lot. We have Erik's friends which includes the football and track team with some other people and then we have friends which include field hockey, basketball and softball and just other people."

I classified it to her mostly by the sports teams so she could get how big of a range we had. Even though we had other friends we would invite from clubs and stuff or just regular friends, I found it that sports groups classified it more for her to get a wide range of people

"Alright so probably 300 to 350, at least that's if some people can't come."

I nodded, yeah that was about it. "If I could arrange for you and Erik to do a photo shoot for your invitations on a school day would that be okay?"

I nodded. I understood we had a crunch time and I was becoming really excited.

"Maybe after a little bit of shopping we can go check out some venues." Caroline suggested. "Unless your busy?"

No that's fine. "So, should we hold off on catering until we have a venue?"

"If you want. Did you have a place in mind though?"

"The Grill is just too common." I commented. "Don't get me wrong I love it there but it doesn't hurt to try something new."

"Of course."

After that Caroline and I just had a nice flowing conversation about everything. School, life and just everything.

"Klaus wants to meet your boyfriend." Caroline said a little bit after we got our food.

I groaned. "I'd rather they not meet."

"Klaus is very persistent, especially when it comes to his children. I'm telling you he's only going to wait so long before he takes things into his own hands."

I scoffed, "Yes well he can wait." I spoke biting into my mashed potatoes.

They are so fucking good.

"So this is the famous Mackenzie Michaelson." At that Caroline's face turned hard and I turned around. Some chick with long brown hair and brown eyes was smiling at me.

"And you are...?" My voice trailed off.

"Elena, Elena Gilbert." So this was the slut that Damon was making out with or whatever he had been doing, I forgot.

"What are you doing here Elena?" Caroline hissed at her at the same time I said, "Oh, so your the whore of Mystic Falls." While I probably should have kept my mouth shut I owed it to Kylie. Caroline chuckled a bit on her drink before glaring back at Elena.

"I was just hanging out Care," Elena then turned to me. "Your rude. Then again what else should I expect from Klaus' spawn."

"Don't fucking talk to her like that." Caroline said to Elena with a tone that I had never heard her use before.

"Oh, does she actually like you now?"

Ouch. I could see Caroline's face falter for a second before her guard was back up.

"Are you just trying to make things worse for everyone? You should leave."

"Now why would I do that?" Elena asked twirling a piece of her hair, "My friends are all here."

"If you haven't noticed none of us like you anymore."

"Caroline you are just mad that I never agreed with your decision on Klaus. And then there's the fact that I was with Damon."

"I'm not going to argue with you about this right now but what you did was wrong and you know it!"

"Fine. I want do this in front of Satan's spawn," before she was gone.

"I'm going to kill her." Caroline said before looking at me. Her eyes bored into mine, "Don't listen to her. You aren't Satan's spawn and she had no right to even be here and address you like that."

"Don't worry about it." She did stick up for me so it wasn't like I could be mad at her or anything.

"No, Mackenzie she is going to have a consequence for that."

"Your going to tell my dad." It wasn't a question but a statement.

"I have too."

I nodded. "I get it." After a few seconds I spoke, "Let's just forget about it. For now anyways."

She nodded. "I like that idea. So what do you want for your birthday?"

I shrugged. "Nothing in particular."

"Really? Most teens would say a car."

"I can't even drive yet," I chuckled.

"Alright, so clothes?"

I shrugged. "It doesn't matter. You don't even have to get me anything."

She gave me a look, "I'm definitely getting you something or more like things. I just don't know what yet. Your not very helpful at this."

I chuckled, "I've heard that before."

After eating Caroline did some shopping and she insisted on buying me everything. The only thing she let me buy for myself was a Smoothie from Starbucks when we left and I even had to bed her let me do that. As soon as we left we went and looked at some venues. There were a lot of nice places.

But in the end it was decided that we would go with The Mystic Gardens and it was scheduled for February 8th. When we got there the owner was out of his office and as soon as he saw Caroline enter with myself following behind a grin graced his face. He immediately showed us around and the space was awesome. Plus, it wasn't too far, only about fifteen minutes away from my school even.

Mr. Gordian, the owner then took us to his office and showed us photo albums full of successful parties. When we told him the theme he went crazy and told us he'd love his company to host Erik and my party. They were even going to set up the decorations. The icing on the cake was when he had us taste test the food which was amazing.

Caroline was going to bring Erik and I back so that we could do dessert tastings to decide what kind of cake and stuff we wanted.

Yeah, they were going to do that too.

This place was fucking amazing.

"Thanks for today." I said to Caroline as she pulled up to my house.

"No problem. I had fun."

"Me too." Getting my bags and stuff together I smiled at her. "See you around, thanks again."

"No problem. I will text you!"

"Okay." And with that I left going into the house. She didn't leave until I was safely inside. I ran upstairs to my room and put my things down before going back downstairs to find Elijah and tell him that I was back.

"How was your day?" Elijah asked as I entered the living room. He was sitting down reading the paper.

I sat next to him and put my feet in his lap. He gave me a look raising his eyebrows but I raised mine back and he chuckled. I couldn't help crack a smile. "It was fine. Planned this sweet 16 for Erik and myself."

"And how did that go?"

"Good. We have to do a photo shoot."

"What for?" Elijah wondered curious now. He put down his paper on the other side of him.

"Our invitations are going to have our faces on them and then to the side it'll be like Mackenzie and Erik's Sweet 16 yada yada." I explained.

"Ah. Are you excited?"

I nodded. "Yes. And that annoying brother of mine actually helped me pick the theme. Great Gatsby, 1920's."

"Sounds amazing."

"It will be."

"I am glad to see that you and Caroline are making progress."

"You and me both." A quiet silence fell over us after that. It was nice though. I remembered the Elena thing and debated whether or not to tell him.

I decided to just do it so he couldn't be mad at me later for not bringing it up. "So, while we were out guess who stopped by."

"Who?" He gave me a look.

"The infamous Elena Gilbert." His face hardened and became serious. "I don't like her."

"What did she say?"

"Nothing really."

He growled out, "Mackenzie, tell me."

"Besides calling me Satan's Spawn nothing really."

A rippled snarl came out of him this time. "You are not Satan's Spawn."

"Yeah, I know. Besides Caroline was there for me. So, I'm sure you will be getting a call from dad later. She said she had to tell him."

"She does. Don't worry, we will take care of her."

I rolled my eyes. It was quiet again but I could tell after about 2 minutes that he was starting to regain his composure.

"I almost forgot," Elijah spoke after awhile. He handed me a letter that was on the other side of him. Seeing the front paper I saw it was from my school.

"I didn't do anything." I really hadn't.

"I know."

"Oh, then what is this about?"

"Read it."

I pulled the letter out since the envelope was already open. Puling out the paper I read it.

Dear Parent/Guardian,

I am proud to write this letter to inform you that your child, Mackenzie Mikaelson, will have her artwork displayed in this years art show. The art program will be hosting this ceremony on Thursday January 16th, 2014. We hope that you are able to attend and help us celebrate the amazing creativity that your child has created.

Mrs. Peterson.

"Aren't they supposed to sign letters with their first names?"

Elijah chuckled. "That would be the first thing you comment on. Well first let me tell you congratulations."

"Thanks."

"I've already spoken to Niklaus. He will be there."

Oh great. It was no secret dad was an artist. Now he was going to see my work. I was aware that all of my pieces would be displayed. Just great.

"Do you think he'll like them?" I asked. "My art work I mean."

"No." Well then. "He will love them. Stop worrying."

I could only hope. We'll see.
