Waiting for Superman
Chapter 21 Hanging by a Moment
Morgan sighed then put her hand to the door in front of her then opened it right on up going in. She saw Doc Robbins, Greg and Finn all around the dead male body from the desert that they found. Morgan went forward slowly and not saying anything.
"So which bullet killed him?" asked Greg
"There were what about eight bullet wounds." said Finn thinking quickly
"Yeah it was this one right here to the sacral segment in the spine." said Doc Robbins "But how the killer was able to get that many bullet wounds in him has to be mad."
"Or maybe . . ." started Morgan
"Wow Morgan you surprised us." said Finn to her as Morgan
"He was at the shootout at the strip." Morgan finished as she looked at them "I think he might be one of the shooters."
"Wait you're serious Morgan?" Greg responded looking at her
"I am with how many bullet wounds in him yeah I do. That shoot out was pretty crazy and we have only identified one shooter and we have about three-four more to go." said Morgan to them
"Well this right here is Dennis Parnell." said Doc Robbins
"And Henry gave us his name not too long ago he was a potential for us and well now he's here in the morgue as your victim." said Morgan
"Alright it looks like our cases just became one." said Finn to them "Thanks Doc."
"Of course." said Doc Robbins
The three of them left the morgue as it was Morgan who put it all together how their victim was at and connected to the shoot out that she's working on. She looked at Greg who seems to be smiling himself about something and she was wondering what it even is about. Could it be about her? Or is just how their crimes became one?
They went past the whole hall of the morgue and out of it and continued on walking back into the crime lab in silence. It was a little weird and awkward for Greg and Morgan while for Finn she is known as one of those people who just won't shut up. But that's what makes them like her and part of their Las Vegas CSI family.
They got up to the crime lab finally and went into Russell office as he stood there talking to Brass about their shootout case. But they seemed to have wrapped everything up and he left the office as he looked at the three of them curious at what's going on.
"You guys want to see me?" Russell joked
"Our victim is Dennis Parnell." said Finn
"Wait what?" said Russell as he looked at them shocked
"Morgan came down and connected our case to yours she figured it out herself. How I don't know but she did. She told us how he was a suspect and potential shooter in your case." said Finn
"Okay it looks like we're working on one case together then. Finn I want you to go to Henry, Morgan go talk to Nick and Sara inform them about Dennis and that this is one case, Greg Ecklie wants to talk to you." said Russell
"Wait why does my dad want to talk to you?" Morgan wondered
"I don't know I guess I will find out." said Greg as Ecklie came in the room while Russell and Morgan left going to their posts or their jobs
Greg continued to stand there not believing he has to talk to Ecklie again as he talked to him six months ago. It was when Morgan got knocked out by a combination of substances how he took him and Morgan off that case and how he knows about his crush on his daughter. Greg looked at Ecklie as he was sitting down at Russell's chair. Greg went over and sat opposite of him.
"You want to talk." said Greg nervous
"Look Greg when are you going to talk to my daughter." said Ecklie
"Uh . . ." mumbled Greg right there
"Look I want her to be happy and I can see that you're happy with her. That's all that matters to me. Don't put me in as a factor of Morgan how we have been co-workers for fourteen years." replied Ecklie
"I'm not." replied Greg
"Look sometimes you need to put your foot forward because I know that my daughter is special to you. Just talk to her, make her understand how you feel about her." said Ecklie right there
"I can't." muttered Greg
"You can't or you won't. There's a fine line between those two and if you don't take a risk then that's your choice but I think it could be a risk worth taking if you ask me." said Ecklie as he looked at Greg
"Am I actually having this kind of conversation with you?" Greg wondered as he leaned forward on the chair
"Greg just know this, sometimes you don't realize what you have until it's too late but if you already know it, then go for it because you won't get any of that back before something goes black." said Ecklie right to him
Greg looked at him not believing it one bit that Ecklie could say something like that. But he has learned stuff about Ecklie in that past couple years since he met Morgan. That is when he started learning stuff he never even knew about Conrad. But now it's like Ecklie is being a friend almost like a father to him by giving all of this advice. Yet is also feels awkward at the same time. He was hanging by a thread or as other people would call it hanging by a moment.
"Just talk to my daughter and soon." said Ecklie right there "She will understand, I've said it before I don't want anything to happen to her and neither do you."
"Yeah thanks Ecklie but I should go back to my case which has now intertwined with the shoot out at the strip." said Greg
He got up from where he was as Ecklie continued to look at him but said nothing. Greg continued to look at Ecklie until he got to the door then went out not believing he just had that conversation with him. What is going on? It's like things have gone haywire. First the dead body in the desert, then the dead body becomes connected to the shoot out and now Ecklie is giving him advice on Morgan. What has this world come to? Is he ready for the road ahead?
Well he's about to find out.
