The shadows lingered in the room, the same shadows that followed his every thought. The only light seemed to come from the moon, the same moon that had been present the steamy nights of their love making. No matter how far he strayed from her, the memories remained. Sasuke was being selfish, he knew that wanting her was asking too much…but he couldn't help himself. She was his lifeline.
The body that laid on the bed stirred, she unknowingly reacted to his lustful gaze. Even in slumber she could feel his every touch, roaming every inch of her body…the lips that had once lingered on her skin, nipping, biting, caressing until she became hot under his touch. Sakura reached out to her child, reaching for that warmth that managed to ease her troubles…only to find he wasn't there. Her emeralds eyes snapped open, her vision scanning the bed for her baby.
"Sousuke!" Sakura let out a small cry of worry as she stood from the bed after not finding her son next to her. To her surprise she wasn't alone.
"Hello…Sakura." The skin tingling sensation of hearing his sensual voice hit her like a wall. Sakura turned her body to face the man behind the shadows…the man that she had grown to love but no longer recognized. The darkness engulfed him, she could barely make out his silhouette, and Sasuke's crimson orbs looked right at her…right through her.
"Sasuke…" his name was nothing but a mere whisper on her lips, his name causing her heart to constrict and grieve, to grieve for the man that she once knew to love her above all other things. For the first time in months she held her breath, she could not break his gaze, the blood she saw in them…this man could not be her Sasuke…it just couldn't be. Not knowing what else to do she swallowed hard and spoke, "Umm…W-where is my son?" her heart hammering quicker and quicker with anticipation. The room seemed to shrink at the presence of the man in front of her.
Sasuke managed to give her a nonchalant smirk, " Don't you mean our son?" he paused, Sasuke would not admit that seeing her awaken, her hair tangled, pink curls wrapping sensuously around her delicate face…and those pout lips, swollen and quivering with fear…aroused him to no end. To finally end her misery Sasuke continued, "He is in his crib." Sakura glanced at the crib beside her bed and sighed in relief. "You named him Sousuke…why?" his questioned surprised her…did he not remember?
Flashback
"Sakura…I'm scared of losing you, of knowing that one day I might wake up and not find you next to me." His fingers trailed her pale skin, from her cheek, to her neck, and then to the side of her arm. "Promise me that you will never leave me." He hated to admit it, but she was his life line, the only woman that had the power to destroy him inside and out.
"I won't." those two words brought him so much peace and relief. To show his gratitude Sasuke placed a tender kiss on her lips. "Would Mr. Uchiha care to join me?" Sakura pointed to the bed behind them. Sasuke smirked in agreement and carried her to their bed. Just having her in his arms made him feel complete.
"What should we name the baby, Sasuke?" asked Sakura as Sasuke placed her lightly on the bed. Pretending to think thoroughly about it Sasuke placed his hand on his chin.
"Well let's see…if the baby is a boy he should be called Sousuke. And if the baby happens to be a lovely girl like her mother, then she will be named Yume." Sasuke returned his gaze to the woman next to him anticipating a reply.
"It was what you wanted...to name our son Sousuke. He is the only thing that I have that reminds me of you." Sakura bravely looked at Sasuke, her eyes searching for any hint of remembrance, the slightest light of hope that perhaps he still loved her.
"I did not expect it…that's all…" his response lacked everything Sakura had hoped for, she could not recognize the man he had become.
Anger build up inside her, his arrogance and distant character irked at her weakness. "Why did you come?" Sakura spat out, this did not even faze Sasuke.
"I don't know." Sakura's shield evaporated in an instant, she could not believe that Sasuke was being open with her. Sasuke stood up from the chair and strode toward the bed, he gently rested himself on the bed, while Sakura froze with mixed emotions. Just as quickly as he sat, Sasuke leaned closer to Sakura, his breath fanning her exposed skin. "Tell me something…anything…convince me." His left hand reached to stroke her warm cheek, then trailing down to her shoulder, rubbing the tender spot.
"How?" her question came out as a plea, her high spirits diminished into ashes at his touch, Sasuke's fatal allure hypnotized her…she was his puppet.
"In anyway…" Sasuke could not restrain himself from touching her, Sakura's fragrance filled his mind and brought him back to the time when she was his, his to feel, his to take…his to love. Sasuke placed his lips to her bare shoulder sending shivers down her spine, Sakura began to feel that familiar throb in the pit of her stomach, she was craving him. Sakura desired to feel Sasuke's naked body rubbing against hers, both of them sweaty as Sasuke thrust deeper inside of her. She could picture him inside her, the feeling of completion filling her heart, with his lips electrocuting her body her lust grew. She repressed a moan and indulged in the moment.
Sasuke traveled up to her neck, nipping and biting the way he imagined he would if he saw her again. Losing himself in her, he placed his lips against hers in a passionate kiss. Sakura became liquid as his tongue drove itself inside her mouth. Sakura leaned forwards so that she could deepen the kiss, so that she could make the moment last for as long as she could.
Both parted for breath, but Sasuke did not move away. His face remained rooted in front of hers, she could feel his breath, steamy and exciting tingling her moist and plump lips. "I tried to tell you, but you wouldn't listen."
Sasuke ignored her statement and focused on her disheveled appearance. "I tried to forget you, I couldn't…and here you have me." Sasuke felt defeated, he had come to Suna for business, only to find himself begging to the woman that broke him. Sakura's coral eyes glowed at the touch of the moon's light, she looked like a complete angel. "Sasuke, Do not say things that you might regret." Sasuke stiffened lightly at her outburst. "We need to talk." Sasuke felt like he had to clear his mind, he stood and walked away from the bed. Sakura was waiting for him to say something, but found out that he was not going to respond. "When I walked down the stairs and saw you talking to him…I was overwhelmed with fear." Sasuke paced the room intently listening to her recounting of the story. "After that I told him to meet me at the church. I told him he was crazy for coming to get me. I told him to leave. I begged, but he wouldn't listen. He said he wasn't leaving if it was not with me." Sakura's emotions got the best of her and she broke down into tears.
All Sasuke could do was look at the crying woman on the bed. "I know it was my fault. When I escaped during our wedding, I gave him hope." Sakura wiped her tears, they burnt her like flames, scarring her heart.
"Why did you not leave when you had the chance?" Sasuke asked her, his tone dismal.
"Because, I was your wife…" Sakura responded shyly.
"You told him everything?"
"Yes."
Sasuke's jaw tightened just imagining the other man's insisting demeanor. "And he did not care?!" Sasuke yelled, his fists clenching so tightly that they could have drawn blood.
"No, he said what mattered were our feelings." At her response Sasuke stiffened even more, he had to admit it, he was jealous.
"What were your feelings then?" Sasuke's bitterness made her feel wanted, needed by this man to the point that she could just burst from happiness. That was all overshadowed by fright, the dreaded trepidation that he will not believe her.
"In that moment…I loved him." Refusing to look at him, Sakura directed her haze to the wooden floor. Sasuke stopped pacing and headed for the chair and sat down, at the same time Sakura stoods from the bed. "That day when you were brought back injured…my feelings changed."
Flashback
Her vision was becoming blurry as the tears fell from her cheeks. She continued to clean the wound with wet towels. Sasuke awoke to the feel of her skin touching him. His eyes could barely sustain being open.
"Oh, thank God." Sakura was relieve to see him awake. She placed the towel down and replaced it with her hand. "Sasuke, tell me how to help you." At her words Sasuke could not remain awake and succumbed to sleep.
"Sasuke? Sasuke!" Sakura trailed her hand from his chest to his cheek, she massaged it tenderly. Her tears never stopped. The feel of his feverish skin scared her. She couldn't help it anymore, damn her and her pride. Sakura slowly wrapped her arms around Sasuke, and rested her head on his shoulder. "Sasuke… I… do not want you to die. Please, do not die. Sasuke…"
Sakura's quicken steps stopped in front of him, she kneeled at his feet, her eyes irritated by the tears that flowed down her cheeks. "I was so scared…you looked defenseless."
"It was pity!" Sasuke's words cut her deep, she was opening her heart to him again only to have him throw it back to her. Could he not see that she was suffering? …ever since he left her heart had not stopped grieving, she yearned for him. It scared her to think that perhaps he had stopped loving her.
"No!" Sakura grabbed hold of Sasuke's hand, she placed it on top of her bosom and held it there. "For the first time I saw you for what you are… a man who is capable of suffering, a man who needs attention and care. Can you not see how much I love you?" then there was a sudden pause, "Every day after that I slowly began to desire your attention. I yearned for your touch, the way that you looked at me made my heart skip a beat."
Feeling like she was not reaching Sasuke, Sakura leaned away from him, but maintaining her kneeling position. "At the same time I was living a hell because Naruto was still there…I couldn't persuade him to leave."
"Why did you not tell me!?" Sasuke's outburst scared Sakura, it reminded her of the time when he told her to leave Konoha.
Flashback
Her body moved on its own, the urge to explain herself to Sasuke was necessary, just like the need to breathe. Standing up Sakura dashed for the door and ran downstairs, when she caught a glimpse of Sasuke entering his studio. Not wasting any time Sakura followed him and in a matter of seconds came face to face with dark, almost crimson eyes.
"Sasuke! Please listen to me!" she cried out. Sakura knew better than to approach him, he was hurt…and she had been the whole reason why.
"Stop! I don't want to hear you! I can't believe I let you do this to me…" Sasuke slumped on the chair, his hands covering his face. The sight of him caused Sakura to break down in tears once again. It was too much to bare.
"You have to listen to me. I love you! What we have is real, this love is real." She walked closer to him. "I'm sorry I lied, but it was to keep you safe!"
"Lie! All you cared about was to keep him safe! You didn't want me to kill him!" Sasuke then stood and harshly grabbed her arm, causing her to wince in pain. "Once I find him…I swear that I will kill him." With that he let her go and made his way to get out of the room, when Sakura stopped him. The touch of her hands on his skin made him freeze.
"Sasuke…you were my first, the baby and I need you." Her plea made him turn around and look at her. Sasuke could see the tear stained eyes, now red from irritation. He was fighting himself, he was fighting the urge to sweep her off her feet, take her to their bed and make her his. But what she did he could not forget.
"All I ever wanted was to make you happy." Sasuke placed his hand on her cheek, he tenderly stroked it.
"I was afraid to lose you! To lose your love" Tears streamed down her cheek, her heart clenched in agony. "It seems like I have already lost you." Sakura confessed. "It scared me to even consider you being a murderer, or for you to kill him!"
Sasuke stood up furious, he tightened his fists hoping to release some tension, but to no avail. "Do you not think that any man that tries to steal another's woman, deserves death?!"
Sakura stood, all fear left behind. "He was also a victim th-"
"STOP Sakura!" he looked at her menacingly, his eyes ablaze with anger and hurt. "That man has no moral, he is an imbecile! Do not tell me you didn't know he managed to escape with Hiashi Hyuga's daughter?" Sakura was going to turn her back to Sasuke, when he forcefully grabbed her arm and turned her to face him.
"Tell me with all sincerity…during the time that he was in Konoha…was there anything between you?" Sakura cast down her gaze in embarrassment.
"The only that has known me intimately has been you Sasuke." Sakura's voice quivered at his demanding hold.
Sasuke shook her harshly, "You haven't answered my question!" His voice was bitter and tense.
"The baby is yours-" Sakura managed to reply.
"Answer me damn it!" Sakura kept quiet. Sasuke inhaled and sharply let her go. He walked away tense. "SO THERE WAS SOMETHING BETWEEN YOU!"
"It was nothing compared to what you and Karin did!" Sakura spat back.
"I'm a man!" Sakura stared at him, she did not recognize the man in front of her.
"You once told me that we are equals." Her words stung him, all he could do was clench his teeth at her act of courage. He shook his head and quickly left the room with a loud slam of the door.
Sakura let out the breath she had been holding. Her hand came up to her temple as she refrained herself from crying. She walked towards the baby's crib and took hold of the child. She placed a kiss on his forehead and at that moment she lost all strength, her tears came in a wave as she began to feel helpless.
Sasuke rushed into the living area and quickly reached from a glass to pour himself s drink. "I thought you had gone to sleep Sasuke." Came Shikamaru's voice from the shadows. Sasuke slammed down his drink, hoping that his anger would vanish. "Did you not fix your relationship with your wife?" Sasuke continued to stare into oblivion, not answering Shikamaru's question. "Well…how should I tell you this…but we have a problem." At his words Sasuke turned around to face Shikamaru. "A burglar sneaked into the house and I hit him with the butt of my gun, next thing I know he falls down dead on the ground."
"When?"
"A few minutes ago. The worker said that he was the nephew of Lady Diana." Shikamaru explained.
"Why the hell did you kill him!?" Sasuke exclaimed.
"He was just jumping on the roof as if in search of something." Replied Shikamaru. He was still a little shaken over the incident.
"Let's go check." Both men immediately left the room and headed outside.
"Sakura, what are you doing? It is late." Tsunade had been woken up by Sakura's knock. Sakura took out her luggage bags and placed them on the bed.
"We are leaving." Tsunade gasped, her hold on the candle wavered at her niece's sudden decision.
"Can you not wait until tomorrow? The baby could wake up!" Tsunade said. Sakura paid no heed to her aunt.
"No, we are leaving right now. Just take with you the essentials, we will send someone for the rest." Tsunade had become worried, why was Sakura so eager to leave?
"D-did he kick us out?" asked Tsunade her voice filled with worry.
"No."
"Then why?"
"Stop. I don't want to stay, understand." Sakura began to cry once again, her voice mimicked the pain inside her heart.
"Up until a few days ago you said you were not going anywhere." Responded Sakura's aunt.
"Well…I changed my mind."
"Fine…such an indecisive girl. Should I tell Mikoto?"
"No! If we tell her she is going to insist that we stay. I am in no mood to dispute the matter."
"Karin, sweetheart, you are still awake." Diana was washing her face with the warm water. Karin shifted on the bed.
"Yes godmother, I was just worried. When do you think that your nephew will come?" asked Karin. It had been her godmother's idea to get rid of Sakura once and for all, the only solution…death.
"Karin, do not worry, he will be here tomorrow before the sun rises. You will see that he will get rid of our problem. Be patient." Suddenly there was a knock at the door.
"I thought you said he was going to be here tomorrow?" Karin asked in worry.
"Maybe something happened." Diana walked to the door and opened it to find herself face to face with devil black eyes. Eyes that were filled with not a single hint of emotion.
