AN: A note at the beginning since this is the end of the movie and I have set a tone that I like so don't want to ruin it with my ramblings.

First of all, sorry that this is a few weeks late. I said mid-April because I finished Uni, but then I have had a lot of things to sort out so I kinda lost track of time! Sorry once again! However, I've really enjoyed writing this chapter and it became a lot longer than I thought it would so hopefully that makes up for me being late at updating again!

Secondly, I just want to thank everyone that has followed/reviewed this story! It has meant the world to me and this is one of my favourite stories that I've ever written. I apologise for the length of time it's taken me to finish, but hopefully you've enjoyed this fic all the same!

Finally, there is an epilogue in the works! This isn't the end just yet, but the movie has been completed within my writing now. I hope you enjoyed the details in this chapter because I wrote each character's lines word for word and made them work for Anna's story.

So, I'm going to leave you all now with some lyrics that inspired this chapter… and a bit of a warning! You may need tissues closer to the finish because I'm not gonna lie… I had tears in my eyes as I wrote Katie and Anna's farewell. I don't think I've ever written something that has made me feel so emotionally attached to two characters before!

Once again, thank you to everyone that has followed Anna's journey and I hope I've done the film justice!

Mikki xx

Just one more time before I go
I'll let you know
That all this time I've been afraid
Wouldn't let it show
Nobody can save me now, no
Nobody can save me now

Stars are only visible in darkness
Fear is ever-changing and evolving
And I have been poisoned inside
But I, I feel so alive

-Battle Cry by Imagine Dragons-

I stayed silent and materialised behind Dodge as he paced at the bridge. I willed myself to stay invisible so that he wouldn't get any more spooked than he was already. If I hadn't known him to be completely human, I would have thought that he'd known about his friend's demise.

"Dodge!" A shiver ran down my spine at the rundown look that was on Epps' face; she was still pale, but the pink flush told me that she was far from letting this defeat her. "Murphy's dead. We've got to get off this boat now. You, me and Munder - there's a reason why the three-" Two. "-of us are still alive! That's why he came after us: to fix his ship!" Dodge looked at her confused before Jack interrupted them both by running into the area. That innocent mask was back on and it made me sick.

"I just saw Murphy! What's happening?!" Epps glared at him before regaining self-control and shaking her head slowly.

"I don't know… but I want you and Dodge on the rudder here-"

"Wait, but you just said-"

"Dodge, listen to me!" Epps waited a few moments until Dodge stopped trying to speak over her. "I'm gonna get Munder and we're gonna check and see if the welds are holding. I want you both to stay here until we get back. You understand?" Dodge nodded despite not understanding what was occurring. "I do not want you out of each other's sight." I smiled as she handed her gun over to her last remaining crew member. "Take this." The blonde froze in place and stared at the gun that was being given to him. "Take it!" I avoided Jack's line of sight as he looked accusingly at me. He knew.

"I think the fun is about to begin, little Anna…"

Epps marched past Jack without a second glance. "Be careful down there."

"I will." She snapped back before disappearing from sight. Jack slowly made his way to the windows beside me and looked out. He gave a small nod and turned back around to face Dodge.

"That's it then. We made it."

"Yeah, for now…" Dodge agreed whilst letting out a deep breath.

"I'm just gonna go check on Epps." Jack attempted to leave but Dodge cut him off.

"No, you're not. She said to wait here."

"Yeah, but I just wanna make sure she-" Dodge pushed him back towards the window with a glare.

"Hey! She said to wait - so wait!" He shouted and I froze. The temperature seemed to drop around us as Jack's face turned cold. He turned to look over at me as he slipped his jacket from his shoulders and threw it in front of him.

"You disgust me." I couldn't help but wince as his emotionless tone echoed throughout the bridge.

"What did you say?" Dodge questioned despite having heard quite well. Stubborn tears built up in the corners of my eyes as I knew that Dodge would now be the next spirit to be trapped under Jack's control. I didn't want to watch this. I couldn't. I tried to disappear from the room but just felt an odd tug in my belly button that made me gasp. The second and third attempt resulted in the same strange sensation before I heard a quiet snicker. Jack's eyes bore into mine with satisfaction before turning around to face the man he disdained.

"You heard me. You're a pathetic excuse for a man. She says jump and you jump. You're disgusting. I don't have time for this." Jack gave one last try at leaving Dodge alone but was forcefully pushed back by the man. Epps' gun was pushed towards his chest.

"Who the Hell are you?"

"Don't worry about who I am. The question is: who are you?" I tuned out what was obviously going to be a sentence full of insults and tried to bring myself out of the room once again. No such luck. "You know, Dodge, you kill somebody and you go to Hell…" The blonde cocked back the gun and I froze in anticipation. No one had ever tried to kill Jack before. Could a gun do it? Surely not, but perhaps it could disable him for long enough so that we can destroy the boat. "Well, you live for her; are you willing to die for her?!" Time seemed to slow as Jack dove forward only to be sent backwards by the shells that ripped through his chest. Blood and skin covered the floor and a spray of red hit my face before I could stop it. The barrel of the gun smoked as Dodge looked down at the seemingly defeated Jack. I heard a gasp and the gun cocked for a second time.

"W-who are you?!" My eyes made contact with his and I bit back a terrible curse as I realised that I'd lost control of my powers. I was visible.

"Wait, please! There's no time. You need to get to Epps and help her take down the ship. Do you understand?" He didn't move and his finger itched against the trigger. "Listen, I mean you no harm! I was a passenger on this ship and he killed me. I want to get off this ship just as much as you do, but I can't do that unless you help Epps, okay?" The gun steadily lowered but he still eyed me with suspicion. "What are you waiting for?! GO!" I screamed as the man stayed still. Dodge finally turned and looked ready to leave but a wet squelch made him stop. A fist was through his chest and stuck out of his back covered in blood. The fingers flexed leisurely as Dodge let out a choked yell. Jack stood in front of us; his own wound slowly closing before our eyes.

"You really should have listened to her… but then again, no one's ever mistaken you for being smart, have they?" With a sick grin he ripped his fist back out of the man's body and watched as Dodge fell to his knees and blood poured out of his mouth. Jack looked at me whilst wiping his arm on the bottom of my dress; I flinched as a dull thud sounded and only one heartbeat remained on the ship. Jack tutted to himself as he grabbed my wrist and dragged me out of the room. The walk went by in a blur as tears fell from my eyes and weak sobs left my lips. How much more death could I see before I turned into the monster that he wanted? I could already feel the seduction of his pull trying to tip me over the edge. We arrived at the engine room and Epps could be heard slamming things around. Jack quickly pushed me back into the wall, wiped my tears and moved my head so that I had to look into his eyes. "Do not reveal yourself. If you do not keep hidden then what happened to you before now will seem like a dream. Do you understand?"

"Yes." I breathed as his complexion became lighter and his hair yellowed. Dodge now glared down at me until I began quivering and turned myself invisible. He nodded once before letting me go and entering through the open door in front of him. I followed and swallowed my gasp as I saw all the C4 that was being laid around the room.

"Epps! I shot Ferriman. He's dead!"

"Yeah? Don't be so sure, Dodge!" Epps remarked as she focused upon the boxes in front of her. "The trips over; I'm sinking the boat. It's taken its last victim! We're gonna have to take our chances." Epps answered as Dodge questioned her.

"What about the gold?" Epps had a look of exasperation as she turned around to look at who she thought was her friend.

"Are you fucking kidding? We're not getting the gold off this boat. Nobody ever does!"

"Wait, wait, wait!" Jack chose a different tactic as he saw that Epps wasn't relenting. "That gold can give us everything we've ever wanted. We can have our own boat - the two of us. We can have a life together. You and me." Epps looked confused as her friend finished his speech.

"What are you talking about?" She breathed. "Dodge, we gotta get outta here. Now."

"Well, I can't let you do that!" Epps immediately dove backwards and armed the C4 as Dodge came towards here. I felt the frustration pouring off Jack in waves as he let out a laugh. Epps held the trigger away from him and stood her ground even as his temper got the better of him. "Alright- okay, you win!" Dodge continued his tantrum and threw the gun into the water around us before turning back to his shipmate. "Fucking bitch! Go ahead! Blow it up! Kill us all!" I swallowed my fear as his glare turned to me.

"Hey, Dodge? Why haven't you asked me where Munder is yet?" The sarcastic laugh returned and I shook off my invisibility just as Dodge melted into Jack's form. I made eye contact with Epps and gave her a nervous nod which she returned.

"Well, I suppose… that's because…" Jack's face turned blank as he turned back to face Epps. "I already know. You're not gonna pull that trigger, Maureen."

"Try me." She tightened her grip on the trigger and straightened her back as he walked closer to her.

"Dodge made the same mistake: he's dead!" I silently moved down the steel steps and looked over my shoulder as I sensed Katie's approach. She gave me a watery smile and that was all I needed to chase away the small portion of doubt that was in the back of my mind. "Katie told you, didn't she? You see, souls without sin can't be marked. It makes them tough to control." Jack glanced back at me. "Even those that are bound seemed to have a way of defying my every order, but as long as I keep the boat afloat, we'll all go down together."

"What the fuck are you?!"

"I'm a salvager-"

"A murderer." I spat back.

"-just like you. You collect ships; I collect souls, and when I fill my quota, I send a boatload home. This will make management happy. You see, it's a job given to me after a lifetime of sin. So, if I lose this ship, management won't be happy, which is not a good thing." Epps didn't falter even when I began to shake at the thought of what punishment I'd receive should we succeed in destroying this vessel. Jack sighed and tried one last time at using his persuasive tactics. "I don't seem to be getting through to you! What I'm asking for is an exchange: this ship for your life."

"I want my crew back." I looked up at Jack in fear. If he agreed, then Katie would never be free. I couldn't help but feel a portion of anger at the self-serving attitude Epps seemed to have taken on in this moment. It may have been harsh after what she had been through, but hadn't we all lost people we loved by coming on this voyage?

"Sorry. Once a passenger's marked, they're mine." Time seemed to pause as Epps looked down at the water.

"Then I guess it's over." My body stilled as her finger pressed a little on the trigger. I heard the rusted groan and jumped as a bar suddenly moved and hit Epps on the back of the head, making her fall into the water. Jack went right in after her and I ran to the edge so that I could get a better look. My mind forgot about the trigger as I saw Epps being beaten and felt the need to exact some vengeance upon the demon before this was over.

"All you had to do was fix the ship!" Jack lifted Epps up and smacked her against a large bit of pipe before dragging her back under the water and crushing her throat under his boot. "I gave you a great opportunity! All you had to do was take it!" As I saw Epps fading beneath the surface I backed away from the pair. My feet smacked against the steel walkway as I ran forward and launched myself at Jack; I landed on his back and raked his eyes with my nails. "Agh!"

"Epps, get up!" I shouted loudly in hope that she would have enough energy to finish this. Jack stumbled backwards and pulled on my hair until I was forced to let go. He was about to strike me when Epps rose from the water breathing heavily; the gun came up with her and she aimed it at Jack.

"What are you gonna do? Shoot me?!" I saw her gaze flicker and made my way to her just as she shot at the trigger that lay on the walkway. I dragged her beneath the surface as the C4 exploded. The fire lit up the room and I caught sight of Jack reaching towards us. A silent scream left my lips as a piece of the ship obliterated him into pieces. I looked to my right and saw Epps was in the same state of shock; a glimmer of white caught my eye and I found Katie waving beside an open door. I grabbed Epps' vest and pushed her towards Katie; we dodged various pieces of the ship before we came to a hole in the side and swam through. Various passengers began to enter the sea and disappeared in a misty glow. We were half way to the surface when Katie stopped in the water and I noticed her feet beginning to disappear. I couldn't help but shake my head as the feeling of a weight dropping in my stomach made me freeze.

I would never see her again.

My little sister…

My best friend…

My bright light in all the darkness would be gone.

I quickly swam to her and we embraced for the last time. Even though we were surrounded by seawater, I could feel my tears pouring down my cheeks and her sobs drenching my shoulder. I shut my eyes in denial and swallowed salty water as a sob left my lips at the feeling of her fading from me. It wasn't until I felt that last tickle that I looked down and saw a few glowing flickers still surrounding me. They refused to fade away.

She's trying to stay with me… I summoned up what was left of my heart and carefully ran my hand through the traces of Katie that were left behind. She, out of everyone, deserved to be with her family. She didn't deserve to suffer any longer, even if that meant me being on my own. A cold hand wrapped around my shoulder as I stared at where my best friend used to be. I turned just in time to see my mother smiling half-heartedly at me.

'Be with, father.' I mouthed to her as the water filled my mouth once again. She nodded before she too faded from me. I was soon left alone floating in the darkness of the water. My arms and legs slowly pushed upwards and I broke through the surface with a pained scream. The sobs that left my lips seemed to reverberate in the nothingness that encircled me. "I'll miss you, dear friend." I whispered up to the sky that steadily darkened as the last few souls were welcomed into paradise finally. It wasn't until I heard a choking sound that I snapped out of my daze; Epps was a few feet from me exhausted and trying her hardest not to get dragged down into the ocean. I carefully wrapped an arm around her chest and swam to a floating piece of debris. More tears flooded down my cheeks as she slumped against the wood.

That's how we were found by a passing ship. We'd floated for hours until the morning broke and a modern-day cruise liner approached us. Of course, they only saw Epps as I made myself invisible, but the goosebumps that rose on a certain part of her arm told her that I was still near. The two shipmates dragged Epps into their lifeboat and willed her awake with a cold, damp cloth against her lips and face. She looked up at them dazed as I tuned out their incessant rambling. Her eyes looked down at where the hairs of her arm were raised and a small smile came to her face as she was lifted onto the top deck of the ship. She was immediately loaded onto a stretcher and I slowly followed behind her. I looked away and gave her privacy as a medic stripped her of her clothes and checked her for any serious injuries. I think I heard him mention 'extreme dehydration' before he left the room in search of something. She made eye contact with me as I flickered back into my opaque form.

"It's over then?" She croaked before clearing her throat. "Can you feel him?" I focused on the environment around me and was relieved to feel that happiness and light that the living brought with them.

"I- I think he's gone." A tear dripped down her cheek as she let out a breath of relief.

"Where will you go now?"

"I haven't even thought about that." I admitted and perched on the edge of the bed she was placed on. I never thought I'd be free, so I'd never entertained the thought of leaving the ship. "I… I don't know what to do." Would other demons from Hell call on me? Would they drag me down to those horrid rooms and torture me until I resembled nothing of my former self?

"Well, I'll need someone to help me once I'm out of hospital…" She smiled at me and I nodded. Wait…

"What's the 21st century like?" She let out a hoarse laugh before quietening once we heard approaching voices. "I think we'll be docking soon."

"They mentioned that we were near land and that emergency medical attention was already waiting for me."

"I'll-" I motioned to the room around me. "I'll be around." I said lamely before disappearing just as the medic returned with Epps' clothes, an icy glass of water, tablets and some juicy fruit.

"You'll be hungry…?"

"Epps." She answered and nodded. The medic laid the items out on the bedside table before motioning to her clothes.

"They've been washed and dried quickly so you can change back into them before we dock."

"Thank you." She answered after taking small sips of the water.

"The tablets are for the headache that I'm sure you'll have after spending so much time in direct sunlight. There are also some vitamins too."

"Thank you." Epps repeated.

"We will arrive in an hour so get some rest." He nodded and paused at the door. "Call for 'Mark' if you need anything." Epps shuffled into her pants and top once the medic left. I noticed her eyes drooping as she swallowed down the tablets and nibbled on a piece of banana.

"I'll be on the top deck. I'll appear again once it's convenient." She barely acknowledged me as her head leant against the soft pillows. I brought myself to the top deck and immediately jumped as an odd tone rang out from next to me. A boy ran through my form and held up a rectangular object before speaking into it.

"It's called a cell phone." A voice hissed into my ear. My knees shook as my hair was brushed over my shoulder. Cold, familiar lips pressed to the side of my neck before I felt them stretch into what I knew to be a smug smirk.

"Did you really think that escaping me would be that easy?"
