Tony hated the feeling of not knowing. He thought when Andrew woke up he would at least be out of the danger zone. Now that he was awake though it seemed like he was worse off. Visiting hours had ended and he was was sitting in the waiting room. Gibbs had told him that he really needed to take off until. Whatever happened... happened. He knew what that meant. Until either Andrew died and he had coped with it or until after Andrew had received his kidney and was on the road to recovery. He had agreed without much hesitation. Now that Andrew was awake he needed his family more than ever and tragically that was him. He lay back on his couch and picked up his phone. He had a missed call from Breena. His heart dropped. The last time he had heard from her was the day after he was released from isolation and he hadn't seen her for weeks before that. She wasn't being cold or uncaring. She was the mother of a small infant, widowed, and pregnant on top of all that. He pressed callback taking the chance that she was still awake.
"Hello?"
"Breena it's Tony."
"Oh Tony. I am sorry for not coming by to see you and Andrew. I can't take the risk of picking up a germ at the hospital and passing it on to Tori or bringing something from Tori or myself to Andrew. I can't lose anybody else."
"No Breena I understand."
"How is the little guy doing?"
"Not good"
"What's wrong has he not beaten the virus?"
"He beat it a few weeks ago but he had been in a coma for weeks and when he finally woke up tonight. They found severe scarring on his lungs and he said he can't feel his legs. He's also uh in kidney failure."
"Kidney failure? What are they doing for that?"
"He is on dialysis constantly and he needs a new kidney very soon or he will die. I can't donate because of the plague."
"Why would that matter? Andrew had the plague too?"
"Because my own organs can start failing too."
"Oh well that is sad and scary but it makes sense."
"I know but I hate it because my son is so sick and I can't help him."
"I wish I could help but I can't because of the baby and besides it's such high risk surgery and I have no help with Tori."
"No Breena I understand besides you aren't a match. Jimmy and I had the same blood type. We were both AB positive and you are B negative. I remember because you guys were so worried when you got pregnant with Tori."
"Oh yeah I forgot about that."
"I wish that Jimmy were still alive. He would be able to donate one of his kidney's to Andrew."
"He wouldn't have been able to. He was diabetic remember? I wanted to donate his organs when he died but they would only let me donate his lungs and tissues. Since his heart, kidneys, liver, and eyes could be affected by the diabetes."
"Oh yeah"
"What about the rest of the team? Could they donate?"
"Melody got tested but I guess she wasn't a match. Ducky already said he was too old to feel comfortable. I don't know about Gibbs, Abby, and McGee thought."
"Have them get tested."
"They are going to first thing in the morning."
"I wish them good luck."
"Thanks Breena and we need to get together sometime."
"Yeah we do."
McGee was thumbing through the pages his editor had sent back to him. When he was first approached about writing another Thom E Gencity book by the publisher who had published the children's book he had written about adopting Justin his other kids adjusting to having a paraplegic mom and brother. He had been apprehensive. It had been nearly a decade since the second and thus far final book was published but he had agreed. He had made a decent chunk of change off the previous two books and he wanted to provide well for his children's futures especially Justin's since he may be unable to work. NCIS had decent retirement and provided well for the families if God forbid he were to be killed or permanently injured in the field. Now however the book was a God send because if he was a match for Andrew DiNozzo. He would never be able to go into the field again. Of course he could join cyber but even if he did that. It would be a while before he could go back to work at all. Delilah wheeled herself into the room and pulled herself onto the bed.
"Hey Babe" McGee greeted.
"Hi Tim" Delilah replied.
"I'll be done in just a second then I will turn off the light." McGee replied.
"It's OK. I need to talk to you." Delilah replied.
"If this about the kidney. I need to at least get tested. Tony would do it if we were in this situation and one of our kids needed a kidney." McGee argued.
"No Tim I am fine with you donating a kidney. I just want to make sure you are ready." Delilah replied.
"Don't worry I know it will be hard and I know that it is a huge risk but I have to do it." McGee replied.
"OK but if you do donate be careful. I don't want to lose you." Delilah replied.
"Don't worry I am going to be fine." McGee assured.
Tony sank into the couch and tried to sleep. Emphasis on tried. Every time he closed his eyes he saw his son lying in a casket. He knew it was beyond his control but if Andrew died he would never forgive himself. He was the one who opened the damned envelope after all. It was around three when he heard somebody calling his name. Confused he looked up and saw a doctor standing in the doorway. He got up and followed her. He sat down across from her at a desk in an office.
"Good morning Mr. DiNozzo I am Dr. Wilson." Dr. Wilson replied.
"Good morning Dr. Wilson." Tony replied still confused as to what was going on.
"I have some news for you about your son Mr. DiNozzo." Dr. Wilson replied.
"What?" Tony asked.
"I am happy to tell you we found him a kidney." Dr. Wilson replied.
A/N: Finally some good news for Tony and Andrew. New chapter will be up soon. Please review and thanks for reading.
