Chapter Twenty: Welcome Distractions
The next morning Willow awoke with a smile on her face, unable to hold down the joy inside of her that filled every part of her being. For the first time in years, she remembered what true happiness felt like and though part of her was afraid of losing it like she lost everything else, she couldn't resist chancing it.
Walking down the stairs of the large headquarters, Willow smiled at the Newbies as she rushed past them and into the training room where she knew Buffy and Faith would be at that moment.
"Morning," Willow whispered as she walked into the crowded room only to be disappointed when she realized the person she wanted to see was missing.
"Morning, Red. How was your date? Was it as fantabulous as Buffy said?" Faith asked, as she turned to face the red haired witch.
"Faith, please never say that word again," Buffy groaned as she walked into the room.
Chuckling at the two older slayers, Willow shook her head in amusement at their childish behavior. "Hey," Willow whispered, smiling at Buffy as she walked over to her.
"Good morning. Did you sleep okay?" Buffy asked, as she came to stand in front of Willow, smiling brightly at her.
"Mhmm. I dreamt about you," Willow replied in a whisper, giving Buffy a saucy smile.
"Good ones, I hope?" Buffy responded, stepping closer to Willow and pulling her into her arms.
"Only ever good ones," Willow whispered, unable to help the catch in her breath at Buffy's touch.
Buffy smiled at the redhead and cupped her cheek, bring their lips together in a gentle kiss. "I had fun last night," Buffy told her, after they pulled apart.
"So did I. I can't remember the last time I enjoyed a night like that."
Buffy's smile widened as she kissed her best friend softly once more. "Neither can I," Buffy whispered, pulling Willow into her arms.
"Yo, Red, B. We have work to do," Faith complained, smirking at her friends who were lost in each other.
"What?" Willow asked, turning to face Faith with confusion clearly written on her face.
"We have newbies to train," Faith reminded her, watching as Buffy turned to her and realization dawned on her face.
"Oh, right," Buffy replied, kissing Willow once more before pulling back. "I'll see you later?"
"Yeah. I'll see you later," Willow promised, before stepping back.
Buffy smiled as she watched Willow walk out of the training room. Even though she knew the redhead would be in the way during training if she stayed, Buffy wanted nothing more then for the redhead to stay.
"Yo, B. We have newbies to train for war!" Faith called out in frustration, waiting impatiently for the blonde slayer to come back to reality.
"Mhmm..." Buffy mumbled in response, still staring at the spot that Willow had last been.
"Damn it, B," Faith grumbled as she slapped the blonde on the back of the head.
"Hey! What was that for?" Buffy snapped as she turned to glare at the brunette.
"Get out of your Red induced haze and get your ass moving. We have junior slayers to teach!"
"Oh, right. Sorry," Buffy replied, realizing that she had made a fool of herself in front of the newer slayers.
Taking a moment to let her embarrassment pass, Buffy turned to look at the girls who had been chosen to become slayers. She knew that Willow's magic was the reason they were all active now, but she also knew that there was something special in each of them.
"Alright. Lets get started," Buffy said, staring down the smirking faces.
"You sure you're ready to start. You might get caught up in your fantasies about your cute girlfriend," one of the girls called out, causing Buffy's eyes to narrow.
"I'm more than sure that any fantasies that catch my attention still won't give you advantage in a fight against me," Buffy countered, glaring at the pink haired girl .
"I seriously doubt that," another girl challenged, not happy with the knowledge that their great and powerful leader's greatest weakness was a broken witch who was known to cry out for her lost lover in the dark of night.
"Anyone who thinks they can take me in a fight go ahead and try," Buffy replied, lifting an eyebrow when no one in the group stepped towards them.
"They're all chicken. Let's show them how real slayers fight. Shall we, B?" Faith said, coming to stand behind Buffy's right shoulder.
Buffy nodded and quickly pivoted towards Faith, throwing out a punch as she turned in an attempt to catch the younger slayer off guard. Dropping to the ground to dodge the punch, Faith threw her leg out, catching Buffy just behind the ankle and pulling the blonde's feet out from under her, knocking her to the ground with a hard thump.
"Thought the fantasies about Red didn't affect your fighting?" Faith teased as she stared down at the blonde laying on the ground.
"It doesn't," Buffy announced, kicking Faith in the stomach to knock her back a few steps as she flipped back to her feet.
The fight continued for a little while longer with both girls receiving and blocking punches and kicks. Neither was willing to back down for the other because it wasn't in their nature to give up. Neither slayer was willing to be considered weaker then the other. The fight eventually came to a draw as the sound of the door opening and gasps filled the room causing the two slayers to separate as they turned to face the new arrival.
"Buffy, Faith, I was hoping we could talk," the dark haired vampire whispered, staring at the two slayers he knew well.
"Angel, what are you doing here?" Buffy asked as she watched the vampire in silence, not sure how to accept his sudden presence.
"B, I think the better question is 'what is ending the world this time'?" Faith countered, watching Angel carefully and seeing a sense of fear in the old vampires eyes.
"Me," Angel replied softly, unable to look away from the brown and hazel eyes.
