Dusk's eyes narrowed.
Amira Pleasant was the first child of Skulduggery Pleasant, sadly her mother had died after she was born. Raised by her father alone, after she had moved out Skulduggery had married the wife who was killed by Nefarian Serpine along with their child. Amira was the only surviving child Skulduggery had and she, like her father, was a detective. Only she worked with a small American Sanctuary.
Amira stepped forward, still holding the gun.
"Aw come on." Sanguine moaned. "Just when things were going our way. Hey, think there's a chance you can let us go and forget about it?"
"No way." Another man stepped up beside Amira. He was Xander Crux, son of now madman Remus Crux. Both had the same air of fake authority and a weak chin. His eyes glared coldly at the two criminals. "You have broken the law one too many times Mr. Sanguine. You and Dusk here are going to be put into gaol cells so deep that you'll never even see the sun again. And you know what?"
Xander leaned down so that he was only a few inches from the Texan's face. "I'll enjoy the satisfaction of seeing you rot."
Sanguine sneezed in his face.
"Blech!" Xander stumbled back, wiping his face desperately. "Ew! Ew! Gross! Ick! Criminal germs!"
Another man stepped over and sighed behind his mask. As tall and large as his father, Asher, son of Tesseract looked at the hyped up man and shook his head. "You are really sad you know that?"
"That's what I always say!" Amira exclaimed. "Look at him! The way he flounders around like a dead fish. And seriously, what's up with the chin thing?"
"I don't know, but whatever it is, it isn't helping with getting a girlfriend. I'm not kidding, he has to be the only guy who's over four hundred years old and hasn't had one date. It's just sad is what it is."
Amira nodded solemnly. "Very true. Now what shall we do with our new friends here?"
The Elemental gestured to Dusk and Sanguine, who were watching them boredly.
Asher shrugged. "I really don't care. Why not kill them now? I was hired to catch them, but I can kill them as easily."
Amira shook her head. "Sorry Asher, have to go the legal route."
"The legal route isn't fun." Asher crossed his arms.
Amira nodded. "And that is why I love to go against it. But sadly, I can't right now or I won't get paid and I won't be able to get those new Russian bullets. I hear they're really cool."
"They are. I used some last week. I can give you the number of my supplier."
"Cool."
Asher stuck out his foot as Xander staggered by. The still-hyped up man tripped and fell flat on his face making his colleagues and Sanguine laugh.
Sanguine looked at Dusk. "Oh come on! It's funny!"
Dusk rolled his eyes.
"Okay." Amira said, finally getting a hold on herself. "Let's take these two down to the Sanctuary."
Asher nodded and took out a pair of hand cuffs. He stepped forward, Amira kept her gun trained on them as their arms were cuffed behind their backs.
"Hey! Careful of my arm there, I have glass in it you know." Sanguine complained.
Amira put the gun away once they were both bound then turned to Xander. She walked up to him and slapped his face. "Man up. Now let's go."
….
"I'm bored." Sanguine said for the twentieth time in ten minutes.
Dusk ground his teeth. "Well do something then."
"I want to escape, but at the same time this is like a vacation."
"How is it a vacation?"
"Well, think about it. We don't need to eat or go to the bathroom, this is a 'not go to work free card.' May as well enjoy it. How're we going to get out when we want to leave?"
"Well, honestly, I'm just trying to stay as optimistic as possible. That sword wound is actin' up again. Thought I got it in check but the pain has gotten worse so we're stuck unless someone gets us out or I can get enough strength."
"Right."
A few moments of silence went by.
"I wonder what Ray-Roy and Vendetta are up to." Dusk said.
"Maybe they're getting a plan ready to get us out." Sanguine said.
"Not Vendetta."
"Why?"
"She doesn't care if we get put in jail. For her, this is just an inconvenience."
"She's an interesting one."
"Yes, and your son had better stay away from her."
Sanguine raised an eyebrow at the vampire. "Wow Dusk, I never pegged you for an overly protective father."
"I'm not worried about Vendetta. I'm thinking about what she'll do to him if he tries anything."
"Oh."
More silence.
"Where are they?" Sanguine finally said.
Dusk shrugged. "Once again, Vendetta doesn't care if we're locked up. Ray-Roy will probably just follow her. He won't want to cross her."
Sanguine nodded.
Suddenly, voices were heard and an old man who was very familiar to Sanguine was shoved into the cell next to them.
Dreylan Scarab looked up and saw them. "Well if it isn't my son, stuck in a cell same as me. And you have a vampire as a friend now.
"Never mind, I want out. I don't care about the pain; let's just get out of here."
Dusk nodded and Sanguine grabbed his arm and they tunneled away as Scarab called out after them.
Please tell me what you think! Pretty please?
