Things that go bump in the night

It was around midnight when there was a faint sound. It's like the start of a horror film, except I rolled over and ignored. It had been raining and everyone had been restless and anxious, so it was not unusually for people to be getting up and moving around. There was another bump, but again I ignored it. Seconds passed before another bump, louder this time. Soon the bump were becoming more constant and increasing in sound. It was like the drums in the mines. Soon I woke properly.

'What on Earth is it?'

I bolted up right and everything was silent. I went to go to sleep again before frowning and then I began to swear like at trooper. I leapt off the bed, rummaged through my bag and pulled out my Sue list and carefully wrote down 'saved a main character'. I sat there in the early hours of the morning thinking. I was so wrapped up in my thoughts that I failed to look at my face in the mirror until an hour later.

"¿Qué? ¿Comó?" I stuttered. (Spanish for: What? How?)

My face! All my acne scars had disappeared, my eyebrows weirdly thin and my hair was now pitch black instead of its usual dark brown. And my eyes, they were BLUE! My eyes are brown, not fucking blue! I stood suddenly and swore realising that I suddenly had a bust. I had one, but it was pretty flat. Now I was like a cup D. I'm turning into a Sue. The thing I hate the most and I'm turning into it. I yelled in frustration and fear and tried to think calmly but was failing misery. I slumped to the floor and decided that this was one of the worst birthday presents ever. And then I thought back to Galadriel and then grinned, pulling on a cloak from the cupboard that had a hood and just had pulled it over my head when there was a knock on the door.

"Shit!"

I opened it and it revealed Haldir, Caelon and Gimlí were standing there looking worried.

"We heard you yell lass. Everything alright?" asked Gimlí.

"Why are you wearing a hood?" asked Caelon curiously.

'Oh NO! Why do I have this stupid urge to kiss Haldir and Caelon. Must be the high libido of a Sue. They cannot see my face.'

Haldir was frowning at me and leaned forward to tug the hood off my face, but I whacked his hand hard.

"Ouch!" exclaimed Haldir, surprised by my actions.

I noted that my hands, which had faint and old scars from me being my usual, clumsy self had disappeared and now had long nails that rivaled Saurman's. They were also soft and slightly paler than usual. My hands were usually dry and rough from handling chemicals, sterilizing and wearing plastic gloves all day.

"No time to explain, sorry. Is there any way you can contact Galadriel?"

"Yes. Why?"

"Can't explain, but I might need her help, I'll let you know. Gimlí, you're with me, you two go back to bed. I'll see you in the morning and leave my hood alone you two!" I snapped at the elves who were trying to see what was wrong with my face.

Gimlíi followed me looking concerned.

"Where are we going lass?"

"Healing House. It's empty now."

Gimlí nodded, still curious but knowing better than to ask me. We swept through the darkened halls in silence, but I had noticed a flash of blond hair that could only belong to Megan.

'I wonder what she's up to.'

I caught the faint sound of female laughter and so did Gimlí, but we merely glanced at each other and moved on. We finally reached the Healing House, which was thankfully empty. I had left my medical bag on a table and I grabbed it joyfully before peering into the bag and grinning at its' contents.

"Right, lets go."

Gimlí studied the bag closely before nodded. We reached my room in no time, the journey back feeling quicker than before.

"Thanks mate."

"Mate?"

'Oops, damn slang.'

"It means friend from were I'm from."

"Hm."

I looked sharply at Gimlí who returned my gaze evenly before calmly turning away.

'Does he know? He must have suspicions. He's not stupid. I'll wait him out, but he'll keep quiet. I hope. Who would believe him though? Stop.' I ordered myself.

I reached my room and saw that Haldir and Caelon waiting for me.

"You're still here? Go to bed you two. And thank you for waiting up. You too Gimlí."

They stared at me like I was insane but left anyway. I flew into my room, which was now stoney cold. I opened the bag and pulled out the glass bottle that was not part of the usual medical bag. I stared at it wondering what I had to do with it. I opened it, looked and noted the crystalised liquid inside it and then wafted the scent towards me. It smelt of mangoes and frangipanis and the something else. I paused and realised it was multiple things. Strawberry ice cream, fairy floss and sea salt. It reminded me of Sydney, at the harbor in the middle of summer. I was flashed back to the last time I was in Sydney. I was with Owen, Thomas and Anya and we were walking under the Harbour Bridge, waiting for the evening play to start, sweating slightly and buying ice cream. I sighed and slumped on the bed. I missed being home. I liked Middle-Earth, but it wasn't home. I wasn't one of those Sues who was dissatisfied with their life on Earth and wanted to live on Middle-Earth forever. I rested my head against the cold, stone wall and swallowed the lump that was developing in my throat. I sniffed it again and took a very cautious slip of the crystal like liquid. I blinked and the swallowed. It also tasted like mangoes.

'Does Middle-Earth have mangoes? I highly doubt it.'

I placed it down after wiping the lip of the bottle and corked it again. I looked at my reflection and gaped at it. It was like the polyjuice potion transformation, except less painful. My eyes went from blue to brown, my hands were now dry and rough and my hair was now dark brown. I smiled and so did my small mouth. I sighed in relief and flopped on my bed pleased.

'I wonder what that bumping sound was? How strange. Better get back to sleep, we need to leave for Gondor soon…I'll think bout it later. Was it a warning of me becoming a Sue'

I then frowned, leaned over and sniffed the liquid again before putting it down again and curling up to sleep, crying a little.

'I want to go home now please.'

A.N: Gosh, I know how to be depressing. Anyway, hope you enjoyed this little chappie. Please review. ¡Adios mis amigos!
