Chapter 20
"And this is your room" said Mrs. Darcy as she opened the door.
Elizabeth stood there stunned for a moment to take it all in at once. It was a room fit for royalty! But she dare not question it, so she went inside. It really was too much for a commoner like her.
"Do you like it? And its right next to my bedroom and look there is a connecting door to my room. I'll open it, so you can come in anytime that you like" Mrs. Darcy beamed with a smile.
Elizabeth gently nodded, smiling and began to explore the room. Every little detail in the room had been done with care and simplicity. The walls were painted in a faint blue color and the white furniture gave more open feeling to the room. Just my style, she thought happily.
Anne took her hand and seated her on the bed. While holding Elizabeth's hand, she looked at her daughter in law intently.
-"I can't thank you enough for marrying that rock son of mine. And to think that he had been keeping you away from us in secret; I shall put some sense into him" she spoke with evident anger in her eyes.
Elizabeth gulped.
-"No need to think about him. Take a rest first and then we shall have a long chat. And if you need anything, don't hesitate to call me" said Anne as she took her leave and closed the door behind her.
Elizabeth collapsed onto her bed. The worst is behind. She closed her eyes for a moment, trying to digest everything that has happened so far. She pinched herself and quietly said to herself;
-"I'm in Paris. Can you believe it? I'm in Paris and before that I was in England!" She squealed after realizing that everything had been real so far. She abruptly stood up and walked over to the window. The view from her room was magnificent. The old, grandeur buildings and the view of the Eiffel tower made her smile. There was so much to see, so much to eat; she reminded herself. I must not forger baguette, a fresh baked baguette. It was going to be a happy little vacation, Elizabeth thought happily to herself.
After leisurely taking a shower, she dressed herself for dinner. She decided to go for something simple and elegant. She dressed herself in a simple knee length black dress with a loose skirt. Although the dress was plain, she had asked Charlotte for few tips on fashion. She finished her outfit with a bright red lipstick. She was ready to leave when she heard her door opening.
-"Mr. Darcy?" she was surprised to see him coming in, more like tip toeing.
William came in quietly and closed the door behind himself. He approached her and in a hushed voice said;
-"Ms. Bennet, has my mother said anything to you? Have you been adjusting well?"
-"No, she has been very kind towards me. I like it very much here!" she gently smiled at him to assure him.
Her appearance did not go unnoticed by him. That dress perfectly accentuated her waist and the lipstick… William turned away his head and tried to think of something to say.
-"You …look well" he managed to say after few seconds, but then chastised himself for not being able to say something better. After all, she was looking so beautiful in that dress.
She, oblivious to his compliment, was more interested in dinner.
They went down to dinner with William resting his arm on her small waist.
-"You remember how we met right?" William whispered in her ear.
-"Indeed, I do, my dear!" replied Elizabeth as they approached the dinner table where Mrs. Darcy was already seated at.
-"My Elizabeth, you look lovely! Come, sit close to me!" said Mrs. Darcy as she motioned to the chair next to her.
Elizabeth smiled and took her seat. William sat across from his wife to exchange eye signals. It offered him a lovely view of his beautiful wife and his mother.
The dinner went pleasantly. The conversation consisted only of Elizabeth. She tried to answer all of Mrs. Darcy's questions. Questions that ranged from her childhood to her favorite things. It was going well until Mrs. Darcy finally asked;
-"How did you two meet?"
Elizabeth exchanged a secretive smile with William who was already in his husband mode.
-"I met her at a hospital where James works. It was a love at first sight for me, but she did not like me at first" explained William as his gaze never left Elizabeth's. She met his gaze with her smile and added her own revision to their first meeting as she continued his story.
-"I remember being terribly rude to you, but after our first meeting I began to think of you and my rude behavior."
-"And the next time we met, you bewitched me!" said William as his gaze never left her eyes for a moment. Perhaps we should co-write a romantic novel, thought William.
-"How wonderful" said Anne as she watched their little romantic exchange. They are clearly in love, she thought happily. She decided to give them a moment and see to dessert course.
When she left the room, Elizabeth and William gave high-five to each other over the table and began to praise each other.
-"Your acting is phenomenal, my sweetheart" William said laughing and using the opportunity of his mother's absence.
-"Well, you seem to be a better actor than I am, dear!" Elizabeth exclaimed.
The couple were unaware that they were being watched….
Author's Note: I'm back. I am sooooooo sorry that it took me forever to write a chapter. I am really sorry for it. The school starts on Monday, but I promise you at least 2-3chapters before I go to a "No Return Land" aka College. Nothing really important happens in this chapter, but expect more in the next one. Also, thank you for your comments and especially thanks to Maclaney for you message. I realized that people were waiting for my writing, and you don't know how much happy it makes me!
P.S. I am sorry for grammatical errors and such because I never review my work. But still thank you for reading it. Also, somebody we know will appear in the next chapter!
