Hey guys. So turns out I've been making a mistake with my dates. I'm gonna go back and have to change the number of the months I've been saying. Like how its been 9 months...well, it's gonna still be 9 months according to Rin but everyone else it should be 10. Sorry for any confusion _
I sat in the hospital, staring at my so called twin brother. He was still unconscious. He was breathing in sharp, ragged breaths and he looked pale. I studied his face. His brown hair fell in front of his face, covering half of his closed eyes. He had two moles under his eye and one on his chin. He looked like a much older version of the little kid in the picture in the dorm-which made sense, since he was. I thought about the other person in the picture. Who was he? Was he still alive? I went back to looking at Yukio. I was really doubting the whole 'twins' thing. We looked nothing alike.
I had an unexplainable feeling of concern as I stared at my injured 'brother'. Perhaps he really was my brother. It would explain my sense of worry towards the stranger. I thought hard, trying to remember something, anything about him besides his name. As usual, no luck. I rubbed my eyes, feeling exhausted and frustrated. My attention wondered back to Yukio, wondering what his reaction would be when he woke up. According to those exorcists, I had 'died' ten months ago. Which brought up another mystery. I had disappeared ten months ago but I couldn't remember anything past nine months ago. What happened during that one month? I shook my head. It was just one more thing I didn't want to deal with. I didn't really have a choice, but still. I then began to wonder if I could even trust them. They were exorcists, afterall. How did I know they weren't just tricking me?
I sighed, staring at the blank ceiling, lost in thought. I wasn't sure how much time had gone by when I heard the door creak open. It was probably one of my 'friends' or a nurse coming in for a checkup. I glanced at the door and my eyes widened. I scrambled to my feet in disbelief.
Standing, in the doorway, was Chris.
"Ch-Chris!" I said in shock. "Wha-what are you doing here? Did you guys escape?"
Chris looked at me with wide, relieved eyes. "Rin! I've been looking everywhere for you! I managed to escape but-" a sly smile spread across his face and he began to laugh. I stared at him in confusion.
"Chris….what's going on? Where's Angela and Iris?!" He stopped laughing and stepped into the room, locking the door behind him. I tensed, knowing something wasn't right. He walked past me and looked down at Yukio. "Chris, answer me!"
Chris looked at me, his red eyes cold. "Shut up already, you brat!" he spat. I took a step back in surprise. I clenched my fists.
"Where's Angela and Iris." It was more of demand than a question.
Chris scowled. "If you really want to know, they're locked up at Vatican Headquarters." I stared at him in shock. What the hell was going on? Chris looked back down at my brother. "So, when Makoto-" I flinched slightly at the name, "-took your memories, all you could remember was this guy, right?"
"How do you know that?" I whispered. He flashed a huge grin.
"Cuz I work for Makoto." The words hung in the air as I stared at the boy I had thought of as a friend.
"N-no…" I stuttered. "It can't be true…."
"It's as true as the blood that runs through your veins." He laughed. I reached for my dagger before remembering I had left it at the dorm. "Anyway, all I need to do is dispose of this nuisance and take you back to the lab." I froze, panic shooting through me. "We can't have anything leading to you getting your memories back, afterall."
My throat went dry and I struggled to stay calm. Chris flicked his wrist and a dagger appeared in his hand that had been hidden in his jacket sleeve. I stood in shock and fear as he positioned the dagger over Yukio's chest. Suddenly I snapped out of my shock, taking a step forward. "Lea-leave him alone!" I said, my voice shaking. I swallowed, steeling my voice. "Leave him alone, you bastard!"
Chris froze, his eyes darting over to me, narrowing. Suddenly I was slammed against the wall, a searing pain in my shoulder. I let out a gasp of pain. I opened my eyes, teeth clenched. Chris was standing in front of me, holding a knife that was buried into my shoulder and pinning me to the wall. "You know, you're a real try on my patience." Chris growled. "There's going to be many things you're going to need to work on back at the lab. For one, you're disobedience." He twisted the dagger slightly and I drew a sharp intake of air. "Another, you're too softhearted." He twisted the dagger again and bit the inside of my cheek to keep from crying out in pain. "And finally, you're too trusting!" he twisted the dagger in a full circle and I couldn't hold back a scream, my shoulder burning with agony. "I say we just start over with a new demon. After observing you, it's obvious you're just a failed experiment!" He pressed his hand against the knife's handle plowing it deeper into my shoulder. "But noo, no one ever listens to me!" he spat. He let go of the knife, taking a step back. I put a hand on the knife, but barely touching it sent another wave of searing pain. "You're going to wish you never ran." He growled. "When you get back you're going to go through so much pain; worse than anything before." I gritted my teeth.
"Shut up."
"What was that?"
"I said SHUT UP! I don't want to hear anymore of your bullshit!" I gripped the knife, ripping it out of my shoulder. I fell to my knees with a gasp of pain, clutching my shoulder. I could feel the warm blood running through my fingers. "I will not surrender so easily." I hissed through gritted teeth. "Not to some traitorous bastard like you!" Chris glared at me with a look of pure hatred. "You betrayed Angel and Iris even after they helped you..you sick bastard..! How could you?!"
Chris grabbed me by the collar of my shirt, lifting me into the air. "That is none of your concern!" He threw me into the wall and I slumped down to the floor, pain raking through my whole body. "Now sit there like a good little boy as I rid of this worthless human." He walked back over to Yukio, who was still unconscious. I tried to move, but my body was unresponsive. I glared up at Chris.
"Leave him alone…." I managed. "You can take me but leave him out of this!"
Chris shrugged. "I'm just following orders." I watched in dismay as he walked over to Yukio, the bloody knife in his hand. My vision went out of focus and came back in as I fought off the depths of unconsciousness and I tried to get up, unsuccessfully. Chris raised the pointed weapon over Yukio's chest a second time.
"No!" I yelled. Suddenly the door flung open, the latch breaking right off. Shura ran into the room, fury burning in her eyes. Chris glanced over his shoulder sharply, giving a scowl of irritation at the women. He began to bring the blade down, but too late as Shura stabbed her sword at him, not using any to avoid any further injury to Yukio. Chris cursed as he dodged out of the way. He raced over to the window and turned and hissed at me, "This is far from over, half-blooded scum!" and with that he jumped through the window. I laid my head down as the rest of my energy faded, and I faintly heard my name being called as everything turned black.
