A/N: Sorry I know it's been a while since I last updated, I've been feeling less inspired lately with this story.
Enjoy this chapter, not sure when the next one will be up.
Please Review :)
"James, hurry up! I need the loo!" Lily complained loudly.
She groaned in frustration when James didn't reply, she could only hear amused laughter as James turned up the water pressure on the shower. She had been living with James for a while now and he had always let her use the bathroom first. That was one thing that changed when they got married, Lily even tried to set her alarm clock earlier, but James found it amusing by beating her to the bathroom. It was as if she was living with a child.
After several minutes of Lily dancing on the spot to prevent herself from losing control of her bladder, the shower was turned off and James emerged from the bathroom with only a towel wrapped around his waist. Lily eyed him up and down and bit her lip. James smirked and chuckled in amusement.
"Lily?" James asked, eyebrows raised.
Lily's eyes met his amused hazel ones and she huffed as she entered the bathroom, slamming the door in his face. James chucked as he went into their bedroom to get dressed.
They had been married for four months now and James couldn't be happier. Not only in his marriage but with all aspects of his life. After their honeymoon, Lily and James were sent to Shanghai with Sirius, Peter and Marlene to retrieve ancient scrolls from the Qin Dynasty that claimed to hold the secrets of immortality. Dumbledore, knowing that Voldemort would be after the scrolls, had sent them to destroy it. But once they got to China, they ran into Voldemort himself. After a brutal battle in which Marlene had been tortured to the extent of being made unconscious, Voldemort offered Lily and James a position amongst his Death Eaters. They refused and managed to escape narrowly with their lives and the scrolls.
They had managed to apparate back to London, all with their battle wounds from fighting the Death Eaters, and passed the scroll over to Dumbledore. None of them felt that they had the energy to destroy the scrolls. Even Dumbledore had been unsure of whether the scrolls had magical properties to prevent it from being destroyed. After several days speaking with his contacts in China, Dumbledore held and emergency meeting of the Order and destroyed the scrolls in front of all the members. Everyone felt slightly at ease after witnessing Dumbledore destroy the scrolls but after being tortured, Marlene was beginning to panic about the next mission she'd be sent on. Dumbledore offered support to Marlene and gave her sleeping potions to put her into a relaxed sleep. After a few weeks Marlene felt as good as she had before the mission to China.
James heard the shower turn on in the bathroom, Lily was getting in the shower. He thought that maybe he had been a pain in the backside lately with winding her up all the time. He decided to make it up to her by making her some breakfast. He pulled on a t-shirt and went downstairs. As he entered the kitchen and starting pulling out sausages, bacon and eggs from the fridge, Remus entered the house, slamming the front door shut behind him. Remus entered the kitchen, a look of anger on his face. James studied his best friend, whatever had happened had made Remus extremely angry.
"What's wrong, Remus?" asked James as he lit the gas hob and poured some oil into the frying pan.
Remus paced angrily around the kitchen before huffing and sitting at the kitchen table.
"I received a letter from Mary this morning," replied Remus, an angry tone in his voice.
James crack the eggs and chuck them into the frying pan with the bacon and sausages. It was May now, and Mary had decided to stay on in Paris an extra two months. Despite her promise to return in March to see where things stood with Remus. James felt that it was rather selfish on Mary's part, for months Remus had been getting hopeful and then when March arrived he had received a letter saying that she was staying on but didn't state how long for. Everyday James had watched Remus watch the sky hopeful that an owl would arrive for him with a letter from Mary asking him to visit her. No such letter came.
"What did she say?" asked James.
"That she's returning home next week with Mark, but she doesn't want to get back together," Remus exclaimed unhappily.
James turned to face Remus, a look of disbelief on his face.
"She didn't?" asked James.
Remus pulled a piece of crumbled parchment from his pocket and handed it to James. He took it and read:
Dear Remus
Firstly I'd like to apologise for not returning home when you expected me to. Paris has been so amazing and gave me more opportunity to work, how could I turn down such an amazing offer? I know that you must have been upset with me but please know that it was good for my career and not because I wanted to avoid seeing you.
Secondly I will be returning home next week with Mark for a short period, Mark needs to speak with the Editor-In-Chief on where we are being sent next. So I am afraid that my return home will be a short visit.
And finally, I'm really sorry but I don't think it's a good idea that we get back together. Spending so much time with Mark has made me realise that I have deep feelings for him and I have to give that a chance. I'm truly sorry for hurting you like this.
Love
Mary.
James chucked the parchment on the table and scoffed in disbelief. He had never known Mary to be that selfish until now. He decided he was going to talk to Lily and see what her correspondence with Mary had been like over the past few months.
"I'm sorry Moony," James apologised.
Remus smiled weakly, "It's not your fault, maybe it's time to move on." he said, not wanting to accept Mary's decision deep down.
James chucked in extra eggs, bacon and sausages into the frying pan, deciding to make Remus a fry-up too to cheer him up. Once the food was cooked, Remus smiled at James gratefully as he set his plate on the table and then James headed upstairs with a fry-up for Lily.
The first thing that Mary heard when she apparated into The Leaky Cauldron was the sound of muggle London outside. Although muggles remained oblivious to the fact that a magical community existed within London, Mary could still hear the noises of traffic through the front door of the pub. She had missed London so much, had missed her home so much. She look around the room and saw Mark heading towards her, with a grin on his face. She sat down at an empty table in the far corner as Mark returned with two butterbeers. Mark sat down at the table and handed her a butterbeer. She smiled gratefully as she took a mouthful and then set the bottle down on the table.
"What time do you have the meeting?" asked Mary.
Mark checked his watch, "In about twenty minutes, it's to discuss the preparations and then the final meeting to confirm everything is next week," Mark explained.
Mary nodded, not meeting his gaze.
"Mary, please don't sulk. You know it disappoints me when you do," Mark tutted.
Mary met his stare and smiled weakly before nodding her head in understanding. She took another swig of her butterbeer before Mark squeezed her hand.
"Are you going to tell me where we're going?" asked Mary quietly.
Mark cocked his head to one side as he studied her, "No," he replied as he took a mouthful of his butterbeer.
Mary sighed unhappily as she watched Mark check his watch again. He rose from the table and bent over to kiss her cheek.
"I'll be back soon," Mark promised.
Mary nodded her head. Mark pulled on his jacket and went to leave, but he stopped and stared back at Mary.
"Mary?" asked Mark.
Mary looked up at him quizzically, he walked back over to her and whispered in her ear, "Don't even think about going to see your precious werewolf," and kissed her cheek again before departing from the pub. Mary rushed into the woman's toilets, waving her wand to lock the door so nobody else could hear her wails.
