A/N 2015 - Hello everyone! It's been a long time since I attempted to rewrite this whole fic, but I was so adamant and excited about it that I started rewriting it into half a book. I bled myself dry of inspiration and will. I had already written this once and was so proud if it I wanted to make it better for my readers (seeing as I wrote this when I was so much younger).
My intentions are still to tend to this one day and make it into that half a book, it's something I'm too proud of to say "I'll never finish." But for now I simply am not in that place, I hope you can understand that. I deleted the original chapters at first, but since I am not and will not tend to it any time soon, I give them back to you. I have been remiss into giving the ending to my new readers. So apologies for the difference in writing, the grammar and spell fails of old (I am at the very least throwing a spell-check over it, but it doesn't always catch everything)- but I hope you can at least enjoy the story.
20. One Last Night Together?
As the distance between Isengard and the fellowship shrunk rapidly, Aragorn could feel Legolas' body shake more and more in his arms. His fever grew, but then again, he occasionally woke up and remained awake, if you could call it that, for a couple of hours.
"Estel..." a soft murmur came from the feverish elf, "...I'm so cold..." he weakly spoke. "I know my love, but it will soon be over, we will reach Isengard tomorrow and then we will have to fight the dark one..." Aragorn whispered back. He felt Legolas shudder at the thought, but the elf kept himself strong, "We will make it Estel, we will be together always..." the elf murmured as he fell back into the calling darkness.
Aragorn sighed and shifted the elf in his arms, "we will Legolas, always we will be".
When it was nightfall and everyone was tired beyond, they were only a few hours away from Isengard, Aragorn finally called it a night and everyone could rest, only to be fit the next day..
In the afternoon Aragorn, with help of Pippin, had wrapped Legolas into a blanket, for he was truly as cold as ice.
While Gimli, Frodo and Sam made a fire and began preparing some food, Gandalf and Aragorn took care of the elf. Gandalf had taken back his lessons of potions to him and remembered a potion which could bring one back from unconsciousness quickly, though on Legolas it had not the effect it would have as on another, for his sickness was much stronger and more rare. The two males gave Legolas the potion, so he would wake for a few hours and a potion to help him maintain the cold, fever and pain within him.
When Samwise was done preparing the soup, Legolas woke up. His eyes snapped open and he quickly took in his surroundings. He eased down when he saw Aragorn's warm and loving eyes as he leaned into the man's embrace. "Thank you for the potion Mithrandir" he whispered as the Istari nodded and walked off to get some soup for the couple.
"I missed you voice" Aragorn said to the elf. "And I missed your touched, though you no doubt held me the entire day, if not for longer...where are we?" Legolas voice still held a hint of his elven ringing in it, though it was overtaken by weakness. "We are but a few hours from Isengard love, we will be there tomorrow...then your fate will be in your own hands..."
"I can do it Aragorn, for you I will..." a loving smile came upon the elf's face.
"My love...do not leave me alone in this world, I love you say and cannot bear the thought without you" Aragorn spoke true and Legolas knew.
The ranger held Legolas tightly, "We will make it...we will and we can..." he whispered. Legolas nodded and warmed himself in the man's embracement, "I know"
"They are approaching Isengard with the sick elf, if his sickness does not kill him...I WILL!" the dark one was outraged, for quite some time now and it had killed all living orc and Uruk-hai within its reach. It called upon the leader Uruk-hai, "Where are my troops!" the dark one hissed in anger at the ugly beast. "I am afraid all have been slain, evil one, we are few in numbers" the leader said scared. "WHAT?! By Whom?!" the room was filled with dark energy as the dark one stood, towering over the beast.
"By...by...you..evil one" the beast stuttered. The dark one retreated to its seat as it remembered it's outraged moments. "Hmmm, indeed you could be true in your words beast, then with you unworthy army, protect this tower from this fellowship, they will arrive in the morning" as the dark-hooded figure motioned for the leader to retreat. "But evil one, we will be slain, we are few in numbers and this fellowship is strong..." the beast tried, but knew it had been in vain when he found himself thrown against the wall by a powerful magic. "You try to tart me is it not?!" knowing the left-over orcs and uruk-hai were listening or even watching from save distance, the dark one called out a threat to them. "Listen well, my unworthy filthy beasts! Do not try to tart me, or you will find yourself to be killed..." at these words the uruk-hai leader tried to fled, but when he opened the doors, he dropped down dead before his army, who he had tried to save. "Now protect Isengard as I order you!" the dark one screamed, it was almost a shriek like one of the Nazgul could've given...
The hobbits were sound asleep, Gimli was polishing his axe, Gandalf smoking his pipe and a little bit further, Aragorn lay, with Legolas in his arms, both wrapped up in blankets. Aragorn knew this could be there last night together, the last time he would hug his elf or even speak to him. Numerous times he had made clear how much he loved the elf, almost to the point of annoyance. But Legolas knew the man was worried for his life and he gave him no wrong, he would do just the same. The elf received pity from the others and did not like the way Aragorn fussed over him, but he knew it was needed, he was not capable of doing anything anymore lately. Legolas sighed deeply, he wished everything would be like old, that he could live with Aragorn in peace, both ruling over the elves as well as over men, together...
Suddenly the memory of home flooded him and tear fell down the elf's face. "What is it Legolas?" Aragorn asked softly. "Home, you...my life" Legolas simply spoke, watching scenes of his life as if they happened right before his eyes.
"Father...I miss you, Mirkwood..." he whispered as he felt Aragorn's grip on him tighten. More tears fell and Legolas buried his head into the man's chest, "I long for my light, the warmth and love Estel, I long for all...and for my future with you..." the elf whimpered.
At those words, Aragorn's heart was struck, for he himself wished only happiness for his love and he had gotten none of it lately. Even their future together wasn't stable, perhaps Legolas would die tomorrow...
Tears of man and elf mixed as they held each other closely, no more words needed to be spoken, they knew each other's thoughts and encouraging words would not have helped, this just needed to be out.
"I love you so.." Legolas whispered, before falling into a deep dark sleep within the arms of the one he loved. "And I love you Legolas, with all my heart and soul, we will never be apart, never, even if..." the king whimpered and held the elf tighter as he let his tears run freely, his sobs turning Gandalf and Gimli's attention to him. "Owh Legolas, please stay with me...please...please make it tomorrow, I could not go on without you..." the man moved with his sobs and after quite some while, he fell asleep, still holding the deadly-pale elf in his arms tightly and his face wet from his tears.
Gimli had wanted to go to Aragorn, sooth his troubles and ensure him all would be well, though even he was unsure, but Gandalf had stopped him. "He needs to do this Gimli, let him express his feelings now, let him be..."
"I hope Legolas will be alright, the crazy elf is supposed to be immortal..." Gimli muttered. Gandalf knew the dwarf wished Legolas to live and that he would miss the elf for a great deal when he was to pass on. The dwarf and elf had their bonding, strange and far from normal, but it was strong and it was there...
"Wake up son of Arathorn, we are to leave for the Dark Tower" Gandalf awoke the man. Aragorn opened his eyes and found himself to have a strange headache. "Here is something to ease your headache" Gandalf handed the man a potion as if he could read minds. "It is because of your intensive release of feelings last night, but this should help" the Istari nodded encouraging. "What about Legolas when the moment is there?" Aragorn asked when he finished drinking the potion. "I will wake him with the last of my potion and I will give him this..." he held up a flask, containing a strange red liquid. "What is it?" Aragorn asked. "It is to give one a great deal of strength... One would die from this potion if they were not in the condition Legolas is in, I see how little my potion for staying awake helps Legolas... A healthy person would remain awake for at least 2 weeks, seeing how strong I have made it, so I guess this will give Legolas enough strength to give the deadly blow..." the wise one explained. Aragorn nodded, hoping the Istari was right, hoping they would succeed as he made himself ready to leave.
When ready he glanced over to his lover, now wrapped in two blankets and he picked him up gently. He placed a kiss upon his lover's pale and nearly blue lips, as a single crystal tear fell upon the elven king's flushed cheek. "Do not leave me love..."
