Gabe' s POV

The babies are now three weeks old. The doctors let us take them home three days after their birth. Although I'm extremely happy they're finally here, there's one thing I'm upset about. How am I supposed to be a good father when I can't even see my kids everyday and help raise them? My parents don't understand this. If they'd just help me get an apartment, we would all be fine. They wouldn't have to take care of me anymore. Well I guess they still would, but not as much.

I'm actually at Lauren's house helping with the kids right now, but it's still not the same. This is only the first time I've seen them this week and it's Saturday. It's March 2nd today. Teddy's baby is due next week. Pretty exciting!

Oh gosh! Clare just spit up ALL OVER ME! She's lucky I love her!

Clare just looks up at me and giggles. Dang she's cute! And a lot like me... She's got my skin color and eye shape, but Lauren's curly hair. Lauren and I have the same hair and eye color, but different hair texture and eye shape. Clare is absolutely beautiful. So are the boys. The boys are the opposite. They have Lauren's skin color and eye shape, but my sleek, smooth hair. It's funny how they're complete opposites. This should make for good conversations with strangers who think they're cousins or something more distant than that.

Clare is also the wild child like me. The boys are more calm. Clare likes to make my life more difficult. That's why we're so close. Well at least I think that's why. Maybe it's because she's a daddy's girl and was always bound to be one.

"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!"

I turn around to see Lauren trying to give bottles to the boys but them grabbing her hair as she bends down. I silently start to laugh. Lauren looks at me and frowns. I shrug. She frowns more.

After getting the boys to take their bottles, Lauren walks over to me and motions for me to follow her to the next room. I gently lay Clare in her crib and follow her.

I furrow my brow and she rolls her eyes.

"What's with you today?" I ask her, referring to her attitude. She folds her arms over her chest.

"What's with ME?! What's with YOU?!" she whisper-shouts. "You hardly help with the kids and I think I'd almost prefer you not even being a part oftheir lives." My eyes go wide. What is she saying?

"What do you mean?" I ask, hurting inside.

"I want you to leave," she says rudely.

"I'll try to be here more! Just give me one more chance. I can come Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. Please give me one more chance!" I beg with tears forming in my eyes.

"Fine. But like you said, just ONE more chance," she states. I nod. "But for now, seeing as it's 8:00, you can leave." I quickly go in the babies' room and kiss all their heads and leave.

I walk home in silence, trying not to cry. That was horrible. Did Lauren want me to just get her pregnant then leave me? Did she just want kids? I don't know. I'll just try to be there Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. I have to. I can't lose them all.

Three days later- still Gabe's POV

Today is Tuesday, so I have to hurry home. But I don't have to worry about that until later though. It's only 8:00 in the morning and school is just starting. I walk into class and sit in front of Jake. The tardy bell rings and the teacher, Mrs. Hardy walks in.

"Take out your books, class, and turn to page 317 and read silently to yourselves about the Civil War. Be sure to answer all ten questions on page 319," she says as she quietly sits at her desk and grades papers. From behind me, Jake throws as piece of crumpled up paper at Mrs. Hardy's head and hits her right in the eye. Her head shoots up.

"Mr. Duncan, you've earned yourself after-school detention!" she shouts angrily.

"But I didn't do it!" I interject. I turn around and point at Jake. "It was him!"

"Is that true, Jake?" she questions. She folds her arms over her chest and glares at both of us.

"No! Why would I do that?" he says like an innocent child.

"Now you lie, Mr. Duncan?" she says in disbelief. "I won't be here tomorrow, so you'll have detention tonight and Thursday night! Got it?" I nod.

Throughout the rest of the day, I try to ignore everybody and everything. Wait... I have to help Lauren after school tonight. And Thursday. This is bad! REALLY bad!

I have five minutes until I have to go to detention. I pull out my phone and text Lauren, explaining what's going on. I would've told her at school, but she wasn't here because she's taking online school while taking care of the kids. I send the text and walk to my locker and put my stuff in my backpack and head to detention. Right outside the door, I get a text from Lauren.

So now you're so immature you got detention? You obviously can't take care of kids. It's over Gabe.

Well. Today sucks. My best friend turned on me, my girlfriend broke up with me, and, worst of all, my now ex girlfriend took my kids away from me.

I walk into the classroom and sit down in a desk in the back row. There's only three other kids in here. I don't even know them. Lucky for me, they all sat in one corner. I sat in the opposite corner.

I've decided detention is awkward. You can't talk or do anything. You sit there and stare at a blank wall.

Suddenly, through the silence of the hauntingly lonely classroom, the phone rings on the teacher's desk. She reaches forward and answers it. She looks up at me.

"You're being checked out of school. There's some kind of family emergency," she says to me and my stomach drops. The other kids snicker as I walk out the door. I'm really nervous. What if something happened to my mom or sister? What if something happened to their babies? Oh gosh... What if something happened to my kids? I suddenly feel sick and feel vile rising in my throat. I run to the garbage and empty the contents of my stomach.

After I'm finished, I run to the main office. I see my dad standing there looking... excited? I walk up cautiously.

"What's going on?" I ask nervously.

"Your sister went into labor!" he exclaimed. I grin. My stomach feels normal again and I suddenly just feel joy. My dad leads me out to the car where my mom is in the car waiting. She's smiling ear to ear. I get in the car and my dad speeds off.
