Chapter 19—Percy's point of view
I was about to step inside Aslan's tent, mentally prepared to fight my instinct to freeze. I faced a lot of gods and monster since I was twelve. How hard could it be to talk to this one? It shouldn't be, but my stomach hurt at just the thought. Ignoring the ache, I raised my hand to part the flap.
"Percy." I turned at the sound of my name. Aslan was standing behind me. I was shocked to see the pained look on his face.
"What is it, what happened? Is the witch coming? Did you see her forces? I'll go get—"
"Percy," he interrupted me, "She won't attack tonight." He sounded defeated, which surprised and worried me.
"Then why do you look like someone's going to die?" I asked him, scared of the answer.
He sighed. "Walk with me?" I nodded, and we left the camp. Aslan was leading me in the same direction he took Peter the day we arrived. The silence of the night was driving me crazy. That, and my mind deciding that now was the best time to reevaluate my life. I didn't know what it said about me that I was only reacting now that I had met my teenage grandmother and her equally young siblings in a... whatever exactly Narnia. Lucy called it a magic land, but what did that even mean? An alternate universe? Another dimension? Another planet? That thought made me look at the stars and frown. Maybe I've been watching too much Doctor Who, I thought as I dismissed the idea.
Okay, so this isn't a very long sneak peek, but things get heavy real fast, and I don't feel comfortable leaving all that angst just yet.
