*************************************** Future

EGYPT - three days after.

The sun burned in all its intensity, they feel the summer heat that takes care of their bodies and everything around them. They tried in every way to protect themselves from the sun, wearing fedoras and heavy clothes in an attempt not to feel as much of the heat and avoid getting burned.

At that time of day they hardly ever left their tents unless it was very important. They preferred to go to their expeditions at dusk due to the milder weather.

"It's hard to believe, in the morning we almost die of heatstroke, and at night we almost die of cold!" Dana said, fanning herself.

"Well, the weather here is so, little sister, it seems like hell during the day and at night it gets worse!" retorted Jenny.

"We have been here three days – three long days and we have not found anything significant, unless you count small objects," William complained. "Are you sure you put in the right coordinates?"

"Of course I did! Calm down, little brother. Patience is a virtue! Things happen when we least expect it. Look on the bright side: we are in Egypt! Land of mysteries and the home to the oldest civilization on Planet Earth. Land of the Pharaohs. Not everyone has this opportunity," said Jenny

"I know. I'm just anxious to find something important or interesting! This is so boring, just staying in one place, even more with this heat!" William replied, disappointment clear in his tone.

"I know. Honestly, I'm feeling like you. I hope we find something soon!" said Dana.

The day seemed to be endless. Everywhere they looked, the view was the same: lots of sand, some rubble from the pyramid, more sand, and their digging tools. Suddenly, when the girls least expected it, William ran from his side of the pyramid, yelling, "Dana? Jenny? I think I found something!" He shouted again then looked around for them, finding a small gap between stones with a gentle breeze coming from inside. "Come on! Come quickly!" On hearing the cry, Dana left the tent and Jenny ran to where her brother was.

"What happened? What have you found?" Jenny demanded.

"I'm not sure, but it seems to be a passage" said William excitedly.

"A passage? Finally!" his sisters exclaimed together.

"That's right! It's a passage – and we can access it's entrance! We just need to remove some stones and we'll finally be able to enter the pyramid!" William excited said while wiping the maximum that could passage

William said excitedly, prying as many stones free from the entrance of the passage as he could by hand. Dana came closer to William and Jenny, and they showed her the vent slot, it really was a way in. Dana was thrilled by the opportunity to finally, after so long, find one of the entrances of the pyramid.

Dana and William carefully scrutinized the place and realized there were some strange symbols around the entrance which Will and Dana had never seen before. He ran his finger around the symbols and let out a whisper, "Impressive! We finally found something useful!" William happily exclaimed. "Now we just need to get in!" He analyzed some symbols around the wall that went up and down then he looked at Dana. "Dana, look at this. It's not like anything I've seen before. What are these symbols?" he asked.

"I don't know!" she replied then she started screaming, "Jenny! Jenny! Check this out!" Jenny came closer and Dana asked, "What are they?"

"These symbols are jackals. They are the protectors of the pyramid!" exclaimed Jenny eagerly analyzing the symbols.

"Have you seen them before? Do you know what they mean?"

"Well, according to legend, they protect the pyramids of the most important Pharaohs... Certainly this pyramid was built for some very important Pharaoh..." William stared at his sister.

"So you know what these symbols mean?" he asked.

"Yes, but do not worry, it's just a legend!"

"I don't care! Explain yourself better, Jenny! You know very well that legends can be totally real! Remember The Pandorica?" Jenny smiled and nodded confirming. She pointed to the symbols.

"You see this triangle, and adjoining these two coyotes?"

"Yes!"

"They are the protectors of the pyramid," Jenny explained.

"Uhm, yes you said that... " said William impatiently.

"What do you know about ancient Egyptian prophecy?" Jenny quizzed.

"What do you mean?" William asked.

"I see that you do not pay the slightest attention to what Mom says!" Jenny sighed. William blushed, Dana snorted.

"He never pays attention!" she confirmed.

"Okay. After we go through this passage, I can tell you what I think. Let's grab the ropes, explosives and tools that we 'borrowed' from mom, I hope they work. I'll meet you guys back here in a few minutes!" Jenny said rolling her eyes at the two.

They prepared everything, the explosives were already in place and ready to be detonated. William had heard his mother explain to a fellow archaeologist once that these were the best detonators to use on expeditions. They were small, easy to carry, worked more than once and did little damage. The three siblings hid and protected their ears. Then a deafening crash was heard and stones flew from the entrance.

When the dust settled, they got to look inside the pyramid and realized that they had finally succeeded. They could get in, but the evidence of explosives were present at the mouth.

"She said they "do little damage"! I do not ever want to see what mother considers major damage," Dana said sarcastically.

"Oh, come on. It's not like you didn't enjoy that, Dana!" William mocked. She laughed. William looked uncertainly at the entrance. It didn't seem stable enough to enter and Will said nervously, "I have a bad feeling about this."

"Are you scared?" Dana teased.

"No! Of course not!" Will protested. "I only feel... That maybe the entrance isn't very... safe?"- Dana laughed and continued to provoke him.

"I hope you're not superstitious enough to worry that there might be some sort of curse here?"

"How many times must I remind you that legends can be real!" Will asked angrily.

"Oh, come on, William! You better get used to it!" Dana called before adding sarcastically, "After all, what respectable mummy isn't buried without a good curse on it's tomb?" Dana entered the pyramid with Jenny laughing. Those two never stopped teasing. William just smiled and followed his sisters, lighting a torch to illuminate the dark stone corridor.

After following many long corridors, the trio finally reached the entrance to the burial chamber. This time, Jenny volunteered to interpret the new symbols on wall. She looked them up and down. "The main burial chamber should be beyond this door," she said, more to herself than to the others.

William looked around, running his finger over a symbol that caught his eye. He noticed it was similar to the ones over the entrance. Dana caught his attention.

"See that, Will? A virgin seal! This door is is untouched!" she was saying excitedly. "No thieves have ever gotten in!"

"Yes. Beyond us, no one has ever been through this way," Jenny added.

"Maybe because everyone was too frightened?" William asked, unsure.

"What do you mean?" Dana asked curiously.

"Strange... Remember at the entrance to the pyramid - there was no name in the inscriptions..." Jenny interrupted, still translating the symbols.

"Why does it need a name?" William asked, trying to understand. She ignored him because she was still reading something along the wall.

"Okay, Jenny. Wouldn't now be a good time to explain to us about the legends surrounding this place?" he asked.

"You know about the Curse of the Pharaohs, right?" Jenny asked. Will looked from her to Dana and back, embarrassed. Jenny says angry

"Argh ... William John Song ... Mother will hear about this! You can be absolutely sure of it! She took a deep breath trying to calm down. "Okay, let's go from the beginning then," Jenny suggested after a pause. "Some people believe that anyone who disturbs the mummy of a pharaoh falls under the Pharaoh's Curse and the victim dies soon after.

"It is a contemporary legend that arose in the early twentieth century and although there had been stories of curses that date back to the nineteenth century, no one knows exactly who started the rumor that became a legend of international renown.

"There was a belief that the tombs of the pharaohs contained curses written on them or in their vicinity: a warning understandable weather you can read or not: do not enter. There are occasional instances of curses appearing inside or on the facade of a tomb.

"To the ancient Egyptians the true essence of a man was in his name. Removing the occupant's name from their tomb... it was the ultimate banishment. The purpose of these 'curses' seem to be more directed to protect the tombs and preserve ritual purity, and also a warning to potential thieves."

As Jenny explained, they walked around the corridor, trying to find a handle, a crack, or something that would allow them to go into the next room.

"What is written here?" Dana asked, pointing to some symbols on the wall. Jenny came closer.

"Let me see!" she demanded.

Dana admired symbols, touching them with a fingertip. Jenny and Will were clearing the wall of dust so they could see what was written better.

"Look at these symbols, Will," Dana said, still admiring them.

"Yes, I can see them. What do they say?" he asks impatiently. Jenny smiled.

"We got a name!" she said excitedly.

"Really? And that would be..?" Will asked impatiently. Jenny's reply was even more excited.

"Tuthmosis II!"
