Chapter 21 – A walk in the park.

No one's pov.

It was about two weeks after the encounter at the restaurant and Jade had taken Tori for a night time walk in Central park. Though considered a very foolish thing to do by most New Yorker's, Tori didn't worry about the potential dangers lurking in the darkness. For Tori knew perfectly well, that her girlfriend was probably the most dangerous thing in the whole city.

A few months previously someone actually did jump out of the bushes and held out a knife. Before the mugger could even say a word, Jade moved like lighting and promptly broke his arm. Had not Tori stopped her, Jade probably would have followed up by smashing his skull. Instead the mugger was last seen holding his broken arm and running away, all the while howling in pain.

But this night was a moonless and rather windy night. It was the last week of April and the women were walking hand in hand through the darkness after seeing a Broadway show.

All of sudden Tori could feel Jade grip her hand just a bit tighter. Looking over she could see in the dim light, a focused expression come to Jade's face.

"Act natural, don't say anything, we're being followed." Jade said in a low voice as she kept looking ahead.

Tori looked and listened but could detect nothing. They walked about 15 more feet when she finally could hear a faint sound of a footstep somewhere behind her.

"Another mugger?" Tori whispered.

"No. Vampires. At least 2 of them. One of them is behind us; the other is about 20 yards ahead on our left. They probably think we're just two normal people out for a walk"

That made Tori worry. "What are you going to do?"

Jade's eyes suddenly went red and her fangs came out. She then stopped, took a deep breath and said in a loud clear voice. "Ok fuckers. You're messing with the wrong couple. Go annoy someone else!"

Tori suddenly heard a rustling in the bushes ahead of her, followed by the sound of someone approaching. At the same time she heard at least 2 sets of footsteps behind her.

A moment later a tall, muscled, blonde Nordic looking man in jeans and a muscle shirt appeared in front of them. He reminded Tori of one of those heavy-duty weightlifters she saw on the Olympics.

In the dim light Tori could see that he looked rather amused. "Well…Well…not two ordinary love birds as we first thought. Here we have a fellow Vampire. Jade if I'm not mistaken. What a most unusual surprise."

Jade stood there defiantly. "Yes I'm a vampire. So as I said before, you're messing with the wrong couple. So leave me and my girlfriend the fuck alone."

He scoffed. "I'm not letting some ex-clan leader order me around. "

Tori then heard a female voice behind her growl. "Show some respect to a real clan leader, you fucking loser."

Jade suddenly smirked. "Let me guess, you're Olaf and the two idiots behind me are your loser followers from Clan Asswipe"

Olaf sneered for a moment, but said nothing.

"I'm also guessing that the few mangled corpses that police have been finding around the city recently belong to you. They think it's a serial killer doing it. When in fact it's bunch of loser vampires who don't know when to stop, because their attracting too much fucking attention." Jade said in a condescending tone of voice.

Olaf began to pace back and forth in front of them. "Well…Well. Aren't you the smart one. You've left some bodies around too."

"True, sometimes I do leave a mess, but most of the time my victims were never found or their deaths looked like accidents or suicides. You're lot is bringing down way too much heat. I know the council isn't too thrilled about it."

Olaf's eyes filled with contempt. "What's it to you? You're not a clan leader anymore. You're not even one of us anymore. I heard you couldn't hack it anymore. That's why you left."

Jade rubbed the back of her neck and chuckled. "No. I just got sick and tired dealing with idiots like you. If you were in my clan, I would have killed you a long time ago. I had a very simple management style. You do as I wish or I kill you."

Tori stood there silently, knowing it best to say nothing at all. However a second later Olaf turned his attention to the nervous Latina.

"You're very pretty. " He said in a sickly sweet voice.

Though scared. Tori threw her chin up and glared at him.

"If you touch her, you're dead." Jade snapped angrily.

"It's 3 against one; I think you're the one that's dead. KILL HER!" Olaf suddenly barked.

Suddenly tori felt someone grab her from behind, only to have Jade move just as quickly. The Goth then threw a solid punch into the side of the female vampire that had grabbed Tori.

The female vampire quickly let go of Tori, as she doubled over in pain. The blow from Jade, felt like someone had swung a sledgehammer into her side. She was pretty sure that Jade broke at least 4 of her ribs. Though they would heal in a matter of days, it was intensely painful.

For the moment she was out of the fight, as all she could do was scream in pain.

Next up were Olaf from the front and yet another third vampire from behind. They both went for Jade. The one that grabbed her from behind was quickly flipped over her back onto the sidewalk. A quick kick to his head, stunned him.

Olaf was the strongest of the three and threw a hard punch into Jade's jaw. Her head snapped to the side, as she momentarily saw stars. The punch hurt like hell too. A second punch to her ribs, broke at least 2 of them. That sent a wave of stinging in pain through Jade's chest. A third blow after the second, broke yet another rib. Jade knew that though he wasn't an ancient vampire, he was horribly strong. The other two were nothing, he however was a tough bastard. Taking him down would be very difficult.

Realing from the first 3 hammer like blows, Jade quickly braced herself for a yet another blow. At the same time she began to think of how to get Tori to safety.

Olaf then stepped back and laughed as he savored the obvious amount of pain Jade was in. Much like the scene in Rocky, where Sylvester Stallone jogs up the stairs of the the museum. He stood there triumphtantly holding his fists in the air. At the same time he was doing a little victory Jig and seemed to be enjoying the fact that Jade was hunched over, her hand in her jacket. She appeared to Olaf, be holding her now broken ribs.

"Ha. Not so tough are you. You pitiful weakling. Now I'll break a few more of your ribs for hurting my consort."

But the few seconds that Olaf stood around and reveled in his victory, was all the time Jade needed. Instead of holding her ribs, jade was using those few seconds to grab the wooden stake in her jacket. Taking advantage of the fact that he was too busy doing a victory dance, arms high in the air, Jade then smashed the stake deep into Olaf's chest. So deep in fact that only an inch of it protruded from his muscled chest.

Olaf's look of smug victory quickly turned to one of utter shock as he looked at the stub of the wooden stake now protruding from him.

Jade smiled grimly at Olaf as he weakly tried to grab at the stake with a gasp. "To quote Die Hard. Next time you have a chance to kill someone, don't hesitate."

Olaf didn't get a chance to respond, as his skin turned ashen white and began to crumble into dust.

An instant later the female vampire screamed in rage. "You killed my Olaf."

Jade made a move for her, but she quickly retreated into the darkness. Jade then turned her attention to the male vampire. He had already managed to gather his wits and like the female retreated into the darkness of the bushes.

"Run you fucking cowards. I am Jade, baddest motherfucking vampire of all. FEAR ME!" Jade shouted triumphantly.

Tori stood there shaking in fear. "Jade?" She whimpered.

Hearing her voice Jade moved to her and looked her over.. "Are you alright baby?"

"I'm Ok." Tori said as she hugged Jade tightly, causing her to groan in pain.

"MY GOD! Jade. Are you Ok?"

Jade felt her side and grimaced in pain. "Fucker broke three of my ribs." Then she felt her right Jaw. "That's going to leave a bruise. Owww….."

Tori's eyes opened wide as she carefully put her arm around Jade. "Do you need a hospital?"

Jade shook her head and grimaced again. "No. I'm a vampire. It will heal in a day or two. It just hurts like fuck. Bastard, must bench press Toyota's or something. Dam….."

Tori looked over to the pile of dust and clothes that were once Olaf. "He's history."

Jade walked over, kicked and walked on the dust, then spit on it. "So much for Olaf, head of aesir clan. Asshole."

Tori put her arm around Jade again. "Let's get you home. Someone needs some tender loving care. I'm putting you to bed."

Jade tried to smirk but due to the pain it only half worked. "Yes, Doctor Tori."

They quickly walked back to Jade's Porsche. Jade had largely been driving her gift from Tori, which was the black Porsche. Jade liked the car and driving it pleased her girlfriend. Tonight however, Tori insisted on driving as she didn't want Jade to hurt herself further.

On their way home Tori thought of something. "You killed a clan leader. Won't you get in trouble with that council you told me about?"

Jade took a deep and painful breath, and then exhaled. "No. I seriously doubt it. They've been out of control from what I've been told, much to the council's displeasure. Me killing him will probably annoy them greatly. Because they will have to deal with the pissed off and leaderless aesir. But I don't give a fuck. They started it. The council knows I'm not stupid enough to start something."

"So they'll just chalk it up to a random encounter and a very stupid clan leader. That's all it was. They're not stupid enough to start shit either."

"What about the other aesir?"

Jade scoffed. "What about them. I just wiped out their leader and he was probably the nastiest one they had. I'm not too worried about it. I'll just be a bit more careful when we go out at night. At least for a little while, you won't be going out alone at night. But I think they learned their lesson."

Tori breathed a sigh of relief and smiled. "Good. That will show them not to mess with you. But you were wrong about one thing back in the park."

Jade raised an eyebrow. "What's that?"

"You are Jade, most beautiful, wonderful and loving, tender vampire of all." Tori purred.

Jade laughed which instantly caused her pain. "Owwww…."

Tori frowned. "You don't like it?"

Jade leaned over and kissed Tori on the check. "To them I'm the worst of the worst. But to you. I'm proudly all those things. You're pretty fucking spectacular yourself. And of course I love you."

Tori grinned. "I love you Jade."

A few hours later the head of council, Serapis, was sitting in is private study deep below the mansion that was the council's headquarters. The room itself was richly furnished in ancient Egyptian antiques. A knock at the door brought his attention out of the ancient scroll he was reading.

"Come in." He said in a clear voice.

The door opened and a rather tall and well-built vampire named Max, who was his chief aide, came in. "Sorry to disturb you sir. But I have news. I hope I wasn't intruding on anything important."

"No. I was simply reading over some of the ancient scrolls in my collection. Holdovers from when I was a high priest of the sun-god RA. Where I faithfully served my pharaoh Khufu. This scroll is an ancient song of Ra. This scroll is the only remaining copy. I was simply remembering."

Max's eyes for a moment diverted to an alcove off to the side. In it, stood a life-sized solid gold statue of a man in Egyptian dress. However he had the head of a Hawk. Above his head intertwined between two serpents was a solar disk. Max knew it as a statue of the ancient sun-god Ra.

Many would find an ancient vampire putting a statue of a sun-god in such an honored place, very strange. He said long ago, he kept it for aesthetic reasons. After all, he did collect many pieces of ancient art. It was well known that long ago a council member, called Quien, questioned Serapis's motives and said the presence of a sun god statue was an insult. Angered, Serapis dragged him out of the council chamber. No one knows exactly what Serapis did to him after that. The next day, Serapis brought Quien back. He now looked old, and feeble. His thick black hair white. But worst of all was the utterly vacant expression on his face. Quien said nothing, and did nothing other than sit and drool. The only thing he did do was occasionally make a soft moaning sound. The sight of him unnerved even the most evil of vampires. Even Jade made pains not to look at him.

Serapis had Quien chained to a wall in the corner and there he sat, Gazing off into space. Serapis ordered that Quien was never to be interacted with in any way. He was kept there until he starved to death, which took a very long time. Vampires if they don't feed, can in fact starve to death. They slowly get weaker and waste away over time, eventually turning to dust.

Max looked at the statue for a moment, then returned his attention to Serapis. Max gave the statue little thought. "I see sir."

"What is the news? "

"Olaf, his consort Edda and the vampire Erik encountered Jade and Tori in the park. After a brief conversation, they attacked Jade and Tori."

Serapis looked at Max with a very calm expression. "What was the result?"

"Jade destroyed Olaf, after which Edda and Erik retreated. Edda and the rest of the aesir are of course upset and rather angry at Jade. It appears that Olaf did exactly as he was told. Though I doubt he expected it to turn out this way."

After another moment, a smile grew on Serapis's face. "Excellent."

"So things are going according to plan?"

Olaf had a reputation as an immensely strong, but hideously stupid vampire. It was easy for Serapis to make him believe that a simple task could result in his Clan being put back into the good graces of the council. Serapis also told Olaf that Jade was very weak from not feeding much lately, which Serapis knew wasn't the case. From having them followed, Serapis knew that they took frequent walks in the park at night. Normally using the same route. He just told Olaf to be on that route. The most important thing was, that Olaf not tell the others from his clan, that this wasn't just a random encounter and he hadn't. On the off chance that he actually did destroy Jade, Serapis would at least know that Jade had been eliminated as a potential threat.

Serapis nodded looking rather pleased. "According to plan? Jade destroyed Olaf and the other two survived tell their clan. Even better than I had hoped."

So what appeared to be just an random encounter with Olaf and his to cohorts wasn't so random. Jade destroyed Olaf, but that appears to be part of Serapis's plan to bring Jade back into the fold. What will he do next?
