Hi guys... I truly apologize for the long wait but I am really focused on school right now because I am trying to pass a class that I failed last semester. I know you guys are probably upset but just bare with me.
I saw a review that basically said that the way Callie and Arizona had "the talk" with their students was kind of awkward and I guess seemed unrealistic and for that I apologize. When I wrote that chapter, I wanted them to try and have some sort of connection with their students but I didn't want to have them telling the students all of their business and what not. I am looking to find another way of writing that part a little better.
Anyways, enough with my rambling, I hope you enjoy this chapter.
Callie's P.O.V.
"Great job Josiah! The only thing I would say is that you should be more confident in your answers." I smile, "You hesitated for a while before actually writing what you had on your paper."
Receiving a grateful smile in return, he responds, "Thanks Ms. T. I just wasn't sure if it was right or not…"
"And that is okay but know that even if the answer you put on the board is wrong, it's better to get it wrong now so that we can all correct it together verses getting it completely wrong on the test." I explain.
Turning to the board, I glance at my students of my shoulder, "Does everyone understand how we got this answer?" Receiving multiple nods, I turn back around and begin erasing the board.
Looking at the time, I decide to give my students a few practice problems just to take up the rest of the class time seeing as to how our lesson for the day is done. Sitting down at my desk, I sigh in relief to finally be off of my feet.
Taking out a few papers that need to be graded, I become lost in my own world until the sound of the bell ringing breaks me out of it.
Standing, I move to the door, "Bye guys! Have a great and safe weekend." I tell my last class of the day.
Thankfully today is Friday which means two days of alone time with my woman and I couldn't be more excited. This weekend we talked about going to look at different things for the twins but seeing as to how my baby has not had the best week, I thought that I would do something to take her mind of her problems, if only for a little while.
Arizona's P.O.V.
"See you all on Monday. Don't do anything I wouldn't do this weekend!" I smirk at my students as they pass me, exiting the door.
After seeing that all of them have exited the classroom, I sit at my desk and begin to pack my belongings.
Just as I go exit the room in search of Calliope, my phone rings. Taking it out, I see that it is in fact April calling me.
Answering I greet her, "Hey April!"
"Arizona, I am so glad I was able to reach you. I wasn't sure if you were still at work or not."
"Well I just packed up for the day, what's up?" I ask, knowing that this is not just a social call.
"We have a slight problem." She says, hesitation evident in her voice.
"What kind of "slight" problem April."
"Well… first of all, the Pearson project is finished, and Mr. Pearson is very pleased. However, the Williams project has not been going too great."
"What do you mean? Jesus April just spit it out" I say, laughing nervously. 'Please don't be an emergency'
"Jackson, Derek, and Alex got to the warehouse this morning, only to find out that someone had broken into it. There are three mowers missing, all of the materials have been destroyed-"
"Wait, what?! April why are you just calling me about this?"
"I knew you were at work and you told me to call your parents first if there was an emergency, so I did, and they told me to wait until you were off work to inform you of the situation. The insurance company has already been made aware."
"Okay," I sigh, 'I really don't need this right now', "I will be there in about thirty to forty-five minutes."
"Copy that. See you when you get here."
"Oh, wait, so I am assuming that since this has happened, the Williams project was not finished today?" Mr. Aaron Williams is a CEO here in Miami for a tech company that was referred to us by Calliope's father. His little girl is about to turn sixteen in two days and they are throwing her this massive party. He hired us because he wants the landscaping done accompanied with several flower and design arrangements.
"No ma'am it was not."
Huffing out the breath I was holding, I just hang up the phone. "Damn it!" I say as I continue down the hallway.
Making it to Calliope's classroom, I see her packing up her things. As I enter, she looks up with a bright smile playing at her lips.
"Hey baby"
"Hey" I say, memories of this horrible week playing in my head.
"Everything ok?" she asks. Standing, moving over to me.
Sighing, I give her a small smile, "Not really. I need to go into the Robbins Nest, so I'll have to drop you off at home."
"Nonsense babe, I can just ride with Teddy. That way you don't have to go home then come all the way back to the office."
"Are you sure babe? I really don't mind."
"Yes, I'm sure. Plus, I haven't seen you all day and if we go home, I probably won't be letting you leave" she winks causing a genuine smile to break out on my face.
"Point made. So, I'll go take care of this and see you within… the hour? Maybe an hour and a half?"
"Sounds good to me babe" she smiles, moving to grab her phone to call Teddy to be sure that she is not gone yet.
'After the week I've had, I just need a break'
Arriving at the Robbins Nest, April meets me at the door.
"I am so happy to see you!" before I can respond, she hands me a piece of paper, "This was left for you about ten minutes ago. It's from Mr. Williams."
Taking the paper being handed to me, I continue toward my office reading it with April hot on my trail.
Making it into my office, I groan as I sit down at my desk.
"So, the insurance claim has been made on everything correct?" Receiving a nod, I continue, "How did this even happen? The warehouse is usually sealed tight. Who even wants to destroy landscaping tools anyway?"
"Well we have been receiving some flak from Forman and Co since a lot of their clients have been coming to us for business." Ah, Forman and Co. The company is run by one Mr. Eric Forman who is not too happy with us at the moment. Because Mr. Torres has so much pull here in Miami, many of his business partners and friends have been coming to us to do business. I just hope that this little blimp does not put a bad taste in their mouths.
"I really don't need this right now." Thinking about this situation, I make a mental note to talk to my parents about this nonsense.
"Okay, as of now, I need you to get a count of everything we still have that is intact and what we need. Once we have that, I can call a few contacts to have the needed materials here by tomorrow evening because we have got to get the Williams project done before his daughter's party. I am going to get him on the phone and explain this whole thing."
Nodding, "On it boss" April says, turning to exit the office.
"Hey Apes, can you also have Alex, Derek, and Jackson come up here please?"
"No problem!" she says.
Sighing, I pick up the phone, dialing Mr. Williams number, after three rings he picks up. "Ms. Robbins, nice of you to finally return my call."
"Hello sir, I apologize for not returning your calls, but I was just made aware of the situation at hand no more than an hour ago." I tell him honestly.
"So, there is a situation?" he says, interest evident in his voice. "Will I need to take my business elsewhere?"
"Yes, we have a situation but we will have everything done in time for your daughters party so there is no need to go elsewhere. However, I encourage you to do what you feel is necessary."
After a small silence, he clears his throat, "Ms. Robbins you come highly recommended from Carlos Torres. A man who does not recommend people lightly. I understand things arise and am sorry for my behavior earlier. I just want my daughter to have the best. So, if you tell me that everything will still be done, then I will trust you."
Cracking a smile, I respond, "And that is all I ask sir. Thank you so much."
"Good day, Ms. Robbins."
"Nice talking to you Mr. Williams." I say before ending the call. Letting out a slow breath, I lean back in my chair.
Not even two minutes later, I hear a knock at my door and in walks the three men that I requested to see. I spend the next thirty minutes talking to them about what has happened and how we are going to proceed with this project. After getting confirmations from all three men that their teams will be able to complete everything by Sunday morning, I dismiss them.
April finally brings me the count of everything so that I can make the necessary calls and have some extra equipment sent over. After all is done, I look at the clock to see that it has been a total of two hours that I've been here. Now, all I can think about is getting home to my Calliope.
Riding in the car, I begin to reflect on this past week. It started out good on Monday but then Tuesday came, and I got a call that I never thought that I'd get again.
**Flashback**
"Mmm you are playing with fire Calliope" I smirk, laying on the couch with my beautiful brunette lying beside me, placing kiss after kiss on my jawline, down to my neck.
"I know" she smiles, not stopping her ministrations, "This time I actually don't mind getting burned" she purrs in my ear, nipping at it causing me shiver.
Chuckling, I pull back, meeting her eyes, "You are such a goof" I tell, slowly pushing her back so that I am hovering over her.
"And I love it" I finish, connecting our lips together.
Running my hands, up her sides, I slip my thigh between her legs brushing it against her heated center. Feeling this, I feel my boxers get a little tighter.
Humming as my lips move down her neck and across her chest, she slightly pushes me back, "We should take this to the bedroom…"
Smiling, I hop off of her, holding out my hand to help her up.
"Why don't you go on up and get comfortable, I'll be up there in just a second." I smile, tapping her on the rear as she smirks, turning to do as I suggested.
Watching her head up the stairs, I turn to head towards the kitchen. Moving to the refrigerator, I grab the can of whipped cream, turning to also grab a few strawberries and a bottle of water because I have a feeling that we won't be leaving our bedroom anytime soon.
Closing the door, I go to head upstairs. Just as I move through the foyer toward the stairs I hear the sound of my phone ringing and judging by the ringtone, it's Tim calling me.
Mentally debating whether I should answer it now or not, I decide to answer it quickly and tell him that I'll call him later.
Sprinting into the living room, table, I grab my phone, pressing answer.
"Hey bro!" I say, waiting for the picture to show up. " Can I call-" I begin to say, stopping as the picture shows up and I see the slum look on his face.
"Zo I am sorry to catch you at a bad time, but I have something to tell you."
"O-Okay." I stutter.
"I… I've been called back into service."
"What?! No, that can't be. You told me that your last tour was the very last."
"Yeah well I thought it was, but it turns out that they need some help over there and I am one of the people that they have called back into the line of duty."
"But, but" I start.
Hearing bare feet hit the cold tile of the stairs, I turn, seeing Calliope slowly coming down them with her silk robe on, "Baby what's taking so long I-" Looking up, she sees the tears that have unknowingly rolled down my cheeks. Rushing over as quick as she can, she sits beside me, "Arizona, baby, what's wrong."
Not being able to form a proper sentence, I just hand her my phone. She smiles seeing Tim, who is already smiling back at her, "Hi Tim"
"Hey Cal. How are you and the babies?"
"We'd be much better if we knew what was going on." She says with a knowing tone.
Not meeting the brunettes gaze, he repeats his earlier words, "I have been called back into service." Causing a whimper to leave Arizona's throat.
Callie's eyes widen, "But Arizona told me that you had your last tour."
"Yeah, well sometimes situations come up." He sighs, "I need you to take care of my sister while I am gone."
Nodding, Callie places her arm around her blonde as she silently cries.
"Can we talk about this more tomorrow?"
"Yeah, I just wanted you guys to know but we can talk more tomorrow. Love you guys."
"Love you too" Callie says, ending the call.
Knowing that her brother is no longer listening, the blonde turns her face into the brunettes neck as her sobs get louder, "Shh baby.. It's going to be okay."
"We've been fortunate enough to have him come back from three tours. What if, what if he doesn't c-c-c" she tries to talk but her sobs cut her off.
Understanding her fears, the brunette pulls her in tighter. "Hey, no we are not going to think like that. You said yourself that you've been fortunate enough for him to come back after three tours and we're all going to be fortunate enough to have him come back from this one too." I tell her. 'Please let these words rain truth.'
**End of Flashback**
That call from Tim has been weighing on my mind all week. I have yet to wrap my head around the fact that he is leaving again. That along with the fact that midterm grades were due this week meaning that I had to play catch up on all of my grading, PLUS these new happenings at the Robbins Nest, has been too much to handle all at once.
After the week I've had, I just wanted to rest today because Saturday's are one of the two days that I don't have to go to the school or the Robbins Nest for anything. That quickly changed, however, after yesterday, I had to go into the warehouse early this morning to be sure that all of the equipment arrived. In the process of all this, I forgot about the fact that Calliope wanted to go shopping for the babies and once I got home, I was solely focused on finding my head a pillow, so I could go back to sleep.
Entering the bedroom, I see that Calliope is not in bed. 'She must be up already'
As if on queue, the object of my affections comes sauntering out of the bathroom in a black bra and pantie set with her beautiful baby bump on full display. If I wasn't so tired, I'd definitely try to get her out of that little number as quick as possible.
"Oh good! You're back." She starts as I walk over to our bed, plopping down on it.
Turning to look at me, while she gets dressed, she asks, "What are you doing? You have to get up babe."
Groaning, I turn my head away from her, "Whyyyy?"
"We're supposed to go shopping for the twins today, remember?"
Sighing as the memory of making those plans come to mind. A plan that had I not had the week from hell, I would still be excited for. "Mmm… baby I am tired and I just want to get some rest. Can we take a rain check?"
"But babe we said that we'd do it today because we have so much to pick out and so little time to do it all." She says. Hearing her and knowing that she's right, I just neglect to respond, hoping that she'll think I'm asleep.
"Arizona!" she says, loud to be sure I hear her.
"I hear you, I hear you." I mumble. "Why don't you call Addie and Teds. See if they can go with you."
"This is something that I want us to do together Ari." She explains, again, I don't say anything.
Getting closer to me, she begins to poke my body with her fingers, causing me to squirm, "Please babe? I'd love for you to come and give your input on the choices for the nursery. It'll even take your mind off this past week." Calliope tells me as she stops, getting up to grab her purse and keys.
"Cal I really don't feel like it right now." I tell her, burying my head deeper into the pillow as I continue trying to go to sleep.
She huffs, "But, babe, we already talked about going today and I real-"
Turning over, I open my eyes, looking directly at her. "Damn it Callie I said I don't feel like it! I am tired." I say aggressively before I can even think about it. Watching the shocked turned hurt look that she gives me, I quickly swing my feet over the side of the bed, standing. Opening my mouth to apologize, she puts her hand up, silencing me.
Rubbing her stomach, she stands, "Okay, I can go by myself." She mutters picking her keys and purse back up off the foot of the bed.
"Wait baby-" I say, the sound of the bedroom door closing shutting me up once again. Sighing, I think 'What have I done?'
Sitting down on the bed, I slap my hand against my forehead, chastising myself for what I have done. How could I yell at her like that? More importantly, how am I going to fix this?
"Alright, everything has been taken care of."
"Thank you so much Addie, I'm sorry for cancelling at the last minute."
"No problems here Cal. If you ever need us again, do not hesitate to call" the young woman smiles, walking to her car taking everything that we set up for Arizona, with her.
You may be wondering why I was pushing Arizona to come with me even though I knew she was tired right? You probably think that I am to blame for her slight blow up earlier too huh? Well, you're right. I knew that I shouldn't have been pushing her, but I just wanted to surprise her with something that really could take her mind off of everything if only for a minute.
Earlier in the week, after Tim's phone call, I called Addie to enlist her and Teddys, even Aria's help, with setting up something nice for my blonde.
In the nine months that we've been together, Arizona and I have been a lot of places together but there was still one place that I haven't taken her to. It's a nice and quiet spot on my parent's property by the water that I knew she would enjoy. When Aria and I were younger, we'd spend so much time down there that my parents had us a little cabin made, complete with a bench, tire swing, and even a little mini fridge to keep snacks in. As we got older, and we met Teddy and Addison, we all started hanging out there as a group. I just thought that with sitting out by the water being something that we all liked to do, she'd enjoy being that this spot just like all of our others.
I wanted to bring her here along with Aria, Addie, and Teddy and just let loose. It would almost be like we were kids again, but I guess that'll have to happen some other time.
"Do you guys want to come shopping with me?" I ask the three ladies gathered around me.
"For what?" Addison asks.
Not giving me a chance to answer, Teddy jumps in, "Yeah, I thought you were going back home?"
"Well I need some more maternity clothes because it seems that I am getting bigger by the minute. Also, I think Arizona needs some time to rest and relax without me there to bother her." I tell them honestly.
"Aww Cal," Aria says, placing her arm around my shoulder as we head towards the car, "Do I need to kick her ass?"
Chuckling, I shake my head, "No you don't need to do that. She has been stressed and I was pushing her so-"
"So, nothing Callie. You were trying to do something nice for her and how does she repay you? By yelling at you."
"In her defense, she doesn't know what I had planned. I wanted to surprise her, so she still thought that we were just going baby shopping."
"That doesn't give her the right" Teddy mumbles. "We all have been stressed before."
"You're right it doesn't, and I will definitely talk to her about it once I get back home."
"Well let's get this show on the road and go find you some hot maternity clothes that'll make you the sexiest pregnant woman that anyone on this side of the Mississippi river has ever seen!"
Laughing, I look to Aria, "I swear sometimes when you talk, it's like you were not raised by mom and dad at all.
…TWO HOURS LATER…
I hear keys at the door and my eyes spring up in the direction of it. Hurrying to do the finishing touches on what I hope will be a start to Callie forgiving me for being an ass, I grab the two glasses of grape juice, a thing that Calliope has craved since her second trimester began, and rush to meet her at the door.
Meeting her as she walks, more like stumbles over the threshold, I place the glasses down on the table and move to free her of all the bags she has in her hands. 'Jesus, did she buy the whole store?'
"Geez babe, this is a lot of stuff." I joke with her, hoping to gain a reaction.
She smiles but as I look at her, I can tell that it is not reaching her face, "I wanted to make sure that I had enough to last me these next few months, but I also saw a few things for the babies and I couldn't resist getting it."
"Well I can't wait for you to show it all to me, especially when you model these clothes in front of me."
Chuckling, she says, "I am actually kind of beat. My feet are killing me."
"I can give you a massage while you sit and relax. I even made dinner." Seeing that she is about to decline I continue, "Please, Calliope."
Letting out a small sigh, she nods, "Great, you go sit on the couch and find us something good to watch, I will take care of the rest."
Quickly placing the bags off to the side, I hand her a glass of the juice and send her on her way. Going in the kitchen, I plate the food for both of us and go in the den to see my beautiful girlfriend patiently waiting.
"Here you go beautiful" I say, handing her a plate. She thanks me, and we sit on the couch eating and watching Netflix. I don't know if it's just me but even with the television on, there is still this big awkwardness between us and I don't like it. Struggling on through it, we both finish our meals and I take the plates in the kitchen before coming back with her favorite dessert.
"For you, my lady." She once again thanks me softly. Sitting back on the couch I glance at her, noticing her stiff posture and how far away from me she is. "Would you like that foot massage now?" I ask.
Glancing at me, she begins, "You don't hav-"
"Calliope I want to." I say softly. Giving up her fight, she slowly moves so that her back is resting on the arm of the couch, placing her feet onto the couch which I immediately pull into my lap.
As I massage her feet, I can't help but continue to glance at her, hoping to catch her gaze but fail every time. "Calliope…" I finally say softly.
Looking back to her once again, I meet those beautiful brown eyes, "I am so sorry about earlier. I shouldn't have spoken to you that way. Yes, I was tired because I have had the week from hell but baby you had nothing to do with that. Okay? If anything, you were the high that I needed this week. Your love is what kept me sane and how did I repay you? By lashing out at you just because I was a little tired and guess what? I am still tired because when you walked out that door, the look that you had on your face tore me up inside." Pausing to hold of her hand, "Baby I understand if you want to be upset but I want you to know that something like that will never happen again… I love you too much to ever treat you that way again."
Seeing tears well up in her eyes, my eyes widen, "Why are you crying? Are you hurting? Is it the babies?"
Chuckling, she wipes her face, "They are fine and so am I, Arizona. It's just my hormones are all over the place." I smile, as she takes a few more seconds to wipe the remaining tears away. "Thank you for the apology and I want you to know that I forgive you. I would like to apologize too because I shouldn't have been trying to push you into coming with me."
Shaking my heading I go stop her, "You-"
Putting her finger up over my lips, she stops me from talking, "No, Arizona. I know what kind of week you had, and I know how early you had to be up this morning. Although we had already agreed to go shopping today, I should not have been pushing you to go. To be honest, I was pushing you to come because instead of shopping, I wanted to take your mind off of everything for a while by doing something with the girls. After you didn't come, I decided that the drive shouldn't have been in vain, so we went to shop for some much-needed apparel seeing as to how what we bought before is starting to get a little snug." She smiles.
Chuckling, I tug on her legs, silently telling her to come closer. Moving her body to the edge of the couch, I wrap my arms around her the best that I can, "Baby you should've told me. Now I feel even worse."
"Don't Ari. We just pushed it off until another day, that's all." She tells me, lifting my chin so that my eyes would meet hers. "I'm big girl baby, both, literally and figuratively at the moment" she jokes, hinting at her swollen stomach causing us both to chuckle, "and in saying that, I can handle a little attitude, I mean, you surprisingly haven't really dealt with mine just yet so everything is fine." She finished before tapping me on the nose, "Just don't let it happen again."
Pulling myself between her legs, I push our bodies as close as they can get, "I wouldn't dream of it baby." I mumble, connecting our lips in a sweet kiss.
So what'd you guys think of the chapter? Was it not good or was it okay? Hit that review button and let me know. I promise not to keep you all waiting like that again so, til next time. -Britt
