Chapter 21: I can do better

Jess was at truncheon trying to organize all the mess of the latest open house party. When he gets tapped on the shoulder, he turns around and says "how may I help you?"

The man asks "can you direct me to..." He lifts up the book in his hand and reads out loud "Jess Mariano" Jess places his hands in his pockets mentally preparing himself for this guy to start telling him his opinion on his novel. Then he replies with "again I ask how may I help you?"

"Oh your...okay" the man nods and extends his hand "hi I am Walter Rodriguez" Jess stares at his hand for a moment before taking his out of his pocket and shaking it. Walter continues "I'm actually from the Barnes and noble franchise, and your book has seem to have gotten a wide interest." Jess nods trying to understand why this guy would be here. "Well I guess your wondering what I'm doing here" he clears his throat "we wanted to see if you were available for a book tour. All expenses paid by us. You would be going to various locations. Reading a passage talking to fans autographing copies. We would push your books to the best sellers and promote you. Then after the book tour we would pay for a second novel." Jess wanted to stay quiet and take it all in but he didn't want to seem unappreciative or not show interest. He finally responds with "um thank you. Yeah I'll think about it"

"This offer isn't going to stand still long. We are looking at many underground short novel authors. Let me know what you decide by tomorrow." The man gives Jess his card before nodding and walking away. Jess stood there trying to organize books but all he could think of was weather he should take it or not.

Lorelai and Luke sat at the doctors office yet again. Seems every time they sat in those chairs they were nervous. Today was no different they were going to learn the sex of their babies. They were so excited, even grumpy Luke couldn't hide his smile. Luke looks over at Lorelai and says "We won't be disappointed if it's two boys okay?"

"But we secretly will be more excited if we just add more girls to the clan" she chuckles back giving a wink and continues with "I mean it's not like Jess and you are already out numbered"

The doctor walks back inside saying "well the twins look absolutely perfect. They are growing wonderfully." She sits down "I bet your dying to know what their sex is. Am I right?"

Lorelai responds "yes we are so close to death the life line is going flat. Please let us know"

"Imagine if we were in the olden days and you would have to wait till you gave birth" the doctor chuckles at her own comment.

Luke says "but thankfully your going to let us know"

She shuffles her papers "well of course. I guess enough suspense. You are having a boy and a girl. The best of both worlds" Luke and Lorelai smile feeling that it didn't matter what sex they were as long as they were healthy. They couldn't help but stand up and hug. They shaked the doctors hand as they shared their gratitude and left. Lorelai couldn't wait to tell Rory.

Rory knew what she was doing. She would regret much later but she felt so frustrated. She had applied at every newspaper in the east coast and yet none had called her. Not even one interview. So here she was marching to the New York Times to beg for some sort of internship. She was a gilmore and she was graduating from Yale. She deserved this. She wanted this. As she finally reached the receptionist she didn't know if it was the adrenaline pumping but she began with "I want to know exactly the requirements on being in your staff because obviously there is something I overlooked all this years studying at Yale. So please tell your editor I would like a minute of his time. Or I am not leaving" the receptionist stared at her and began chewing her gum and says "may I have your name?" Rory shifts from one heel to another "Lorelai gilmore" the receptionist continues to chew her gum and blow bubbles until she finds her application. "You didn't pass the background check"

"I'm sorry?"

She spits out her gum in the trash "the background check. It says here you have a felony"

Rory stood there and time seemed to have stood still. She couldn't believe this was happening to her. She gulped and said "do you think we could keep this outburst between us?" The receptionist takes out another piece of gum and puts it in her mouth.

"Well I know how to keep a secret but all the people in there are a bunch of gossipers and snitches" she points at the news room. Rory looks over at them notices them all switch back to working. How long had they been listening? Rory was never going to get a writing job at this rate. She didn't even know what to say. She felt mortified and just walked out.

Rory walked into her moms house needing some desperate bonding time to forget everything she just did. As Lorelai hears the door "why original child is that you my first pancake? My first bun in the oven my first" Lorelai stops as soon as she sees Rory. She notices the sad cloud that is following her daughter and Rory sits on the couch she asks "what's wrong?" And as Rory retells her embarrassing outburst Lorelai begins to take out ice cream and chocolate to try to make her daughter feel better. As Rory takes another scoop of ice cream she says "I mean what am I going to do now? If I can't write. What was the point in all this?"

Lorelai stares at her apologetically she always wants to give Rory everything and the world to make her happy. And knowing that she couldn't do anything to fix this really bugged her. Lorelai began asking "well it should be expunged in three years right? Maybe you could write for something online. You'll find something. There is more out there than the New York Times sweets."

"I guess so. Anyways how's the twins? Did you find out their sex?"

"Isn't it funny that it's called sex?"Lorelai chuckles, smiling proudly "it's a boy and a girl"

Rory claps her hands excitedly "awe can you believe there is going to be more babies running around"

Lorelai shifts from her seat "actually Rory speaking of babies, we've never really discuses ed that"

"Mom we've been over the bees and the birds talk. Trust me. I don't need a recap"

"Well I know you know how they are made but do you want any?"

So I need you guys help what do you think Rory would want for her future? Do you think she would want kids?
