Chapter Twenty

Hikaku's P.O.V

"Hurry up Hikaku! The guests will be here any minute!" I rolled my eyes in exasperation at the woman I've called my mother for the past six years. My mother overreacts on just about everything. I got a paper cut about a week ago; a paper cut now, nothing too serious. Well not to any normal person anyways, but to my mother, she claimed I was going to bleed to death. So what does she do? She takes me straight to the hospital. The hospital staff is really a great group of people, they go along with whatever my mother says and takes it just as serious as she does, which I find hilarious. Apparently she's being doing this for years.

"Are you ready yet?!" Right now is one of those situations. The guests are going to be here in about two hours, but Mother wants us to be ready three hours early. I've learned my lesson.

"I'm about ready Ka-san!" I hollered down the hallway as I made my way to my room. I cringed in disgust at the traditional garments we have to wear for dinners such as this. I walked over to it and touched the insignia of the clan. The fan. I feel proud of being an Uchiha, being part of the clan that founded Konoha. I feel very proud to be a part of that. But what I detest above else about the clan is—

"Hey otouto, do you need help putting on your hakama?"

Is that they make my sister miserable, I thought as I gazed at her swollen red eyes, a product of nights of crying herself to sleep.

"Please Mikoto-Nee, you know how I hate these sort of dinners." I told her as I smiled sheepishly up at her. She gave me a half smile as she helped me into the garment.

As she helped, I took my chance and studied her. Not only was her eyes swollen, her cheeks has sunken slightly and her kimono seems to hang off of her, from lack of eating. Her once full, lustrous onyx hair is now limp and dull.

Ever since the horrible news, my sister gotten a little over a week ago, she went downhill. Of course my parents are thrilled that the clan head is interested in their daughter to be the bride to be for the heir. But for my sister, it shattered her happiness. I knew she was seeing a Hyuuga, something very forbidden (seeing how we're rivals). But she was happy and that made me happy. I love my sister very much and I hate seeing her hurt, she's the only one I could turn to when life gets tough, because she understands everything I'm going through, especially with the clan. And the fact that even though she despises the match with her very being, she's still going to do it, for the sake of the clan. I believe her to be very strong, I don't know if I'll be able to be as strong as her, but I hope I'll be close.

"There all done." She gave me a small smile. I noticed it didn't reach her eyes, which has been happening as of late.

"Thanks nee-chan." I said as I smiled in return. I went to the mirror and took a look at Mikoto's handiwork and wondered how she did it. I could never pull it off like this, I thought as I started fumbling with the fabric.

"So are Rin-chan and Hatake-san coming for dinner?"

I mumbled in confirmation.

"I wonder what Rin-chan will do today to embarrass herself." She stated as she gave off a small laugh.

I ceased the fumbling and looked in the mirror at the sister. Hatake may have his own reasons with hanging around Nohara, but my reason? Is that reason right there, to see my sister smile genuinely. Nohara seems to know how to pick people up, to get them back on their feet, to be the person they used to be. I was going to invite Nohara regardless of Mikoto asking me. I knew she needed someone like Nohara to lighten up the atmosphere at the dinner. I didn't tell either Nohara or Hatake but the clan's head and his family is going to attend along with our first cousin Obito. Granted I knew Hatake didn't want Obito near Nohara but I couldn't very well tell him and somehow convince Nohara not to come. That would dampen her mood even more.

"You know her Nee-chan, she'll probably make multiple embarrassing moments." I told her as I gave her a smirk.

She gave a small laugh, "You're probably right, and what about Hatake-san? Is he coming as well?" My smirk dropped from the mention of Hatake.

I nodded my head in validation.

She gave me a small smile, "I'm glad you're making friends, Hikaku." She got up and ruffled my hair as she walked past.

I looked down at the ground as my right hand gravitated to a small scar on the junction of my neck and shoulder. My eyes glazed over by a memory.

I stopped my way over to the annoying, arrogant brat known as Kakashi Hatake. Who does he think he is, making fun of the Uchiha clan and saying he's better?! I thought as I made my way to him.

"Hatake!" I snarled, as I startled the wildlife in the trees amd bushes. He turned slowly and looked at me with indifference.

"What?"

"Stop talking about how your better than any Uchiha! You're not, in fact you're BELOW us. I don't care if your father is the great White Fang! It doesn't mean you have to be annoying about it!"

He slowly pulled an eyebrow up, "Oh really? That's being a little hypocritical, don't you think?"

"I-"

"In fact, more than a little, because all I hear from the Uchiha's is my clan built this great village or my clan is one of the oldest most prestigious clans among the village, or my clan is the strongest out there, well how about this why don't you prove you're the strongest by fighting me. We'll only use Taijutsu. If you win, I'll stop my gloating and if I win, well, you'll be doing me a small favor." He stated as he smirked at me.

"Fine," I snarled at him as I gave him my best glare, his smirk growing wider.

I got into the traditional Uchiha stance, as Hatake go into his. We started circling each other sizing each other up. Tired of the non-stop circling, I attacked. I aimed a fake punch to his face while I did a quick kick to his side, but to my disappointment he blocked my kick and then repeated my actions and got a small hit to my shoulder. Every punch or kick I threw, he either dodged or block each attack, going for at least an hour, and each failed attempt my anger and frustration grew. So fed up, I did the familiar hand signs only known to my clan. The Great Fireball Jutsu. As I was about to blow the fire out of my mouth, I saw Hatake narrow his eyes. I felt the burning sensation crawl up my throat as my eyes began to water and smoke come out of my nose, before a fireball the size of a boulder shot out of my mouth and towards my target. I watched in anticipation as the attack hit my target. I threw my fist in the air in triumph as I saw my opponent lying on the ground a few feet away. I couldn't stop smirking as I made my way towards the arrogant boy. My smirk grew as I came upon him, parts of him burnt from the attack.

"Not so strong now, huh? You arrogant nobody! Now from now on stop downing the Uchiha na-" I stopped as I felt a kunai press against the junction of my neck and shoulder, feeling droplets of blood running down my shirt.

"As you were saying?"

"B-but how? I hit you, I know I did!" I stated and at that exact moment, the Hatake look alike puffed out of existence.

"A-a clone?"

"Better, a shadow clone, and you didn't hit me, I dodged it at the last second and in place put clone of me looking burned. Nice try though, I commend you on the effort. It looks as if I win." I heard the smirk as he removed the kumai away from me to give me the opportunity to face him.

"Now about that favor…."

I shook myself out of the memory as I heard my sister calling for me because our guests arrived.

As I greeted each of the guests and waited for Hatake and Nohara, I knew one thing, I never want to be on the bad side of Kakashi Hatake.

A/N: I know it's short but Hikaku is only a side character nothing too serious, I mean of course he's gonna be in the story but his opinion doesn't matter much in this haha. Sorry it took so long for me to update, I had family issues and whatnot and they're slowly getting better but I don't want to promise that I'll update regularly but I'll update when I can.

Any who, thank you to all who favorited, followed, or reviewed, it helps!
