A/N: So I know you guys are tired of excuses and things but I just wanted to say that I started a new school this year so I had a lot of adjusting and stuff to get used too. I'm sorry, but at least now I'm updating, right? On with the story!
By the way: Ya, you guys guessed it. It wasn't really that hard and ya it was the only thing that really made sense so ya…
I don't own the characters! Only the plot!
Clary's POV
It doesn't take long for our shovels to pull up enough dirt to see the silver cylinder buried beneath the tree. A few roots had wrapped themselves around it but we managed to get the time capsule out without breaking any.
Jace held it in his hands curiously, turning it over to inspect the inscription on the side. July 2nd, 2007.
Jace and I had been ten when we had made it. It was filled with photos, pictures we had drawn, even a pack of mints we had bought together. Probably not the best thing to put in a time capsule but hey, we were ten. But the best thing in there was a VHS recording of Jace and I. We were probably seven when it had been recorded, so ya, it was old. Jace was playing the piano as we sang together, a short melody we had made up.
I still remember the way the light streamed through Jace's golden hair. How his voice was sweet and soft and floated across the air like magic. How the sounds of the piano had swelled and bounced around the high ceilinged roof of Luke's living room. How clean and clear and innocent the moment had been.
I couldn't wait for him to watch it.
Jace breaks me out of my daydreaming.
"So can we open it?" he casts me a look filled with almost a childlike excitement. I can't help but grin and grab his hand, intertwining our fingers.
"How about when we get back home. We should probably start to head back before they think we're doing something really bad."
"Oh like what Clary? Go ahead you can say it. We're the only ones out here." He has his infamous smirk back on. Great.
"Shut up." I say, swatting his arm while turning away to hide my blush.
"Oooohhhh Clary's embarrassed. What kind of perverted thoughts were you thinking?"
"I wasn't thinking anything!" I huff as I head off towards the entrance to the woods. He catches up to me, the time capsule safe under his arm.
He reaches for my hand again.
"How is it you do this kind of thing to me?"
"What kind of thing?" I say still huffed about Jace thinking I was being a pervert.
"You make me want to be better than I am. Better than who I ever was."
"Ok cheese ball." I say
"No I'm serious Clary."
I look at him, deep into his eyes. He looks sincere but it is the first time I notice something in his eyes, something that does not belong in the eyes of my golden angel. I pause only for a moment before moving on out of the woods, Jace's hand still in mine. I didn't reply.

We make it back in time for everyone to begin moving big furniture. Jace goes around front to put the time capsule back into the car. I stay in back and help Luke move out an armoire from the guest room.
"Clare-bear I wanted to just say something to you real quick."
I look up at him expectantly and wait for his words of wisdom to come.
"I don't think you should get too attached to Jace."
Not what I was expecting or what I wanted to hear.
"Why not?" I ask anyway.
"Because. He's a member of the Hollywood society. I'm just saying fame can get to some people's heads. They probably aren't who they used to be. I just don't want you to get hurt."
I suddenly feel very defensive of Jace. I think of the words he had spoken to me coming out of the woods.
"He's not like that Luke! He's still the same person he was then. Haven't you seen it?"
"I notice similar traits but you can never guess what's going on in someone's head. I don't want him to hurt you. I'm just saying be wary."
I fall silent as we reach the car.
For the rest of the day I manage to avoid Luke, his words of caution ringing in my head like a broken record.

We had finished packing all of Luke's stuff. Managing to somehow fit everything we begin our journey back to the city and to Luke's new apartment. He had managed to get an apartment near our house but it was small. We would have to sell a lot of his old belongings. We had left some of the furniture at the farm house for the new family but Luke still needed money.
Everyone was chatting about different things they had found in the house. Alec had found a book he had hidden and never gave back to Clary and Izzy had found the wall behind the living room couch covered in little Isabelle Lightwood signatures. Luke was going back to paint over it but Izzy had managed to take what seemed seven billion pictures. We found lost Christmas gifts and hidden items and forgotten toys that were getting progressively older and untouched.
I watched as the house grew smaller and smaller as we drove down the road towards home. When it finally disappeared I turned away and leaned my head against Jace's shoulder. I tried not to look at Luke and the slight disapproving look that flashed in his eyes.

After reaching Luke's house and unloading all the stuff we head back to the Lightwoods. Jace and I grab the time capsule and immediately head up the front stairs. We reach Jace's room, managing to persuade Izzy to let us open it alone and close the door.
We take our time spreading each picture out on the floor, me explaining a few of them to Jace, him making observations about others.
We find the pack of mints, the tin rusted and gross, the once light green squares now an unnatural shade of white. We set them aside in a plastic bag.
There were also drawings in there. Most of them consisted of paintings I had made for Luke and Jace of flowers and dogs, little Clarrisa Frays, scrawled in the corner.
"Even when you were little you were a good artist," Jace says, nuzzling into my red curls. I blush, of course.
We continue our search through all of the memorabilia until we find it. A VHS tape sealed in a plastic bag.
I grab Jace's hand, leaving the mess on the ground and head to the Lightwoods theater. I'm pretty sure they still have a VHS for all those Disney movies we had collected.
He plops into a chair as I head back to the projector. The VHS is slow but still working. I manage to get it into the machine and cross my fingers it still works. I hear a whirring sound and give a slight whoop in triumph. I hear a laugh from the chairs and hurry over to him after pressing play. It takes a while but soon the screen fills with the image of our seven year old faces. His sweet melody begins to fill the speakers and our child voices are high and clear. We sing happily together and all too soon it is done. We hear Luke's clapping in the background before the screen goes black. I look over at Jace to try and read his thoughts but his face is closed, his thoughts probably working a mile a minute.
We sit in silence for a while before he speaks up again.
"You were very good." He sounds almost tired.
"You were too, a mastermind even back then." I try to get him to smile but he still looks lost.
Another pause then "Can we watch it again?"
I turn to him. "Of course," I say, mildly surprised.
We play it again, then again, then again until it becomes time for me to go home. Jace walks me up to the door like a gentleman and drives me home, managing to keep conversation. After leaving me on my front stoop I watch as he goes. I remember the look he had and the determination to watch it again and again.
I think back to what Luke had said about not knowing what other people were thinking.
You were right Luke, but that's not going to keep me from wishing I did.
A/N Yay! Another chapter! I hope you liked it. I know it's a little short. Thanks to all the people who have been here since the beginning and too all those who are just joining, I love you all!
