Scarlett set off to find everyone and ask them if they wanted to come to a movie marathon tonight. Most of them whom she had asked so far said yes, however a few of their answers seemed a little skeptical. "Hey, Chloe, me and Sophia are planning a movie night tonight. Wanna come?" Chloe was caught off guard, unsure of what to say.
"Um, you know what? I'd love to, but I've got a lot of things to do tonight. I run a blog, and I'm doing a live broadcast video tonight, so I can't." Scarlett rose a brow, not sure if she should buy this.
"Really? You run a blog?" Chloe nodded, smiling.
"Yeah, it's a beauty blog, and I'm doing a makeup tutorial tonight. Real important, sorry. Maybe another night, yeah?" Chloe took off, leaving Scarlett behind. The redhead shook her head, her hair whipping back and forth. Finding some of the others, she asked them the same. Thankfully, they weren't weird about it, and most of them said yes. Her brother on the other hand, was acting suspicious too.
"Hey, you wanna watch movies with us tonight? Pretty much everyone's going to."
"Tonight? Sorry, tonight's not good. I have a lot of homework to finish, and I just want to concentrate on that right now."
"Come on, Eddie, it's Christmas. You're really going to be doing homework?" The blonde ran a hand through his hair, frowning.
"Sorry little sister, I gotta run." Scarlett watched him take off as well with a scowl.
"I'm not little!" she shouted, crossing her arms over her chest and pouting. She felt hands wrap around her waist and turned her head to see a familiar wisp of brown hair.
"Hey," Oscar smiled. Scarlett's scowl softened, smiling a bit.
"Hey," she whispered back. "You're coming tonight, right?" She asked him.
"Of course. It'll be just like when we first met," he teased. She spun around and playfully punched him on the arm.
"Very funny," she told him. Oscar laughed.
"Even when we're dating, you can't admit that you like me." Pretending to be offended, Scarlett gasped.
"I can too!"
"Then prove it," he challenged, smirking.
"I like you," she whispered.
"Without whispering." Scarlett groaned.
"I like you, okay?" Scarlett kissed him gently and quickly, looking up at him.
"I like you too," he answered back, smiling. Both of them laughed as Oscar pulled her into a tight but affectionate hug. Scarlett's arms draped around her boyfriend's neck as she buried her face into his t-shirt. She mumbled something that Oscar couldn't quite understand. "Huh?" he asked, releasing her enough so that she could speak.
"I said you smell like peppermint," she giggled without noticing. Unfortunately for her, Oscar did.
"Maybe I should smell like this more often if it makes you giggle." Scarlett could feel herself blushing. She buried her face into his shirt again before he could see.
"Shut up," she couldn't help laughing. He picked her up in his arms, spinning her around despite her shrieks. Putting her down, Oscar kissed her, smiling into the kiss. She did like him, a lot. She hated to admit it, but she did. Both of them were still young, and they had only been actually dating for a very short while. However, every time she thought about it, a tiny part of Scarlett thought that she could possibly fall in love with him, which scared her to death.
Their affectionate display was interrupted by Sophia coughing, trying to get their attention. "Dad wants to see you," she told Oscar with a smile. He smiled at Scarlett before letting her go and returning to his father. Sophia smirked at Scarlett, walking over to her. "So..." she dragged out. "Peppermint, huh?" Scarlett covered her face with her hands, groaning loudly into them.
"How long were you standing there?" she asked once her face was out from behind her hands. Sophia laughed.
"Just since then. I didn't want to interrupt anything before it started. Although I am surprised; he usually smells like pine trees." Both girls laughed. Scarlett gave Sophia a hug to turn her around.
"Merry Christmas, now go spend it with your boyfriend," Scarlett whispered to her. Sophia was confused, because even though she and James were flirting, she wasn't actually sure if they were dating. However, when she saw James, her face lit up. He held his hand out for her, which she took, smiling.
"I want to show you something," he told her with a smile, bringing her to his room. "I got you something else for Christmas too," he told her. Sophia sat on James' bed, waiting anxiously. James handed her a little gift bag with tissue paper. Excited, she opened it to find a little jewelry box. Opening that, it was a necklace that had a letter J, and a letter S intertwined. Her mouth dropped at the sight of it.
"Oh my gosh, it's beautiful. I love it!" Sophia sprung up and practically threw herself into James' arms. James smiled, hugging her back.
"Here, let me help you put it on," he offered, putting it on for her. She smiled, playing with it once it was on. "I'm sorry I've been sort of an idiot, lately. I didn't know that you liked me," he confessed. Sophia blushed slightly. "But I like you too. So, will you be my girlfriend?" At that moment, Sophia was speechless. It felt as though her entire body had froze. She tried desperately to force the words out of her mouth but they wouldn't come. Finally, she just nodded. James smiled, catching her even more off guard by kissing her. Sophia's eyes widened, but soon softened into the kiss, kissing him back and even smiling. James was a lot taller than she was, surprisingly. Lily was about Sophia's height as well, which was all the more surprising that James was taller than his twin sister. Then again, it made sense in a way, since guys tended to be taller.
When they pulled away from the kiss, both of them seemed to be blushing a bit. Sophia bit down on her lower lip, looking at the floor. When she looked back up at James, he smiled at her. She returned the smile, remembering her gift to him. "I got you something too," she said excitedly, pulling him along and bringing him upstairs to her room. "Close your eyes," she instructed. James did, laughing slightly. Sophia pulled his gift out from behind her bed and held it out for him to grab once his eyes were open. "Okay, open." When James saw the gift she had gotten him, his jaw dropped wide open.
"Oh my god, a new guitar? It's amazing! I love it!" James set the guitar on the bed, picking Sophia up in a big hug and kissing her on the cheek. "Seriously, thank you so much. You didn't have to get me that."
"Well I wanted to, because I knew how much you'd love it," she answered.
"You are amazing," he told her, hugging her again. She giggled, but suddenly stopped when she saw a box on her beside table. It wasn't from James, so who could it have been from? She felt James start to pull away and put a smile back on her face. "Wanna go down stairs?" he asked her. She nodded, taking his hand in hers as they walked down together. Sophia was instantly whisked away by Melody who was dying to show her something. Just as well, too, since James was just as quickly swept up by Chloe and Eddie.
"We need to talk," Eddie explained. The three of them snuck away into Eddie and James' room to talk. "I've been thinking, about that door we found upstairs. Well, I explained it to Chloe, and we think that we should have a look at it again, before we head to the basement. And we should definitely look at that book, too." James nodded.
"Yeah, I agree. We can check out the book now, if we want?" The others nodded. James grabbed the book and opened it. Flipping through the pages, there seemed to just be pictures, and captions. Nothing seemed to stand out to them until Eddie spotted a familiar face among the pictures.
"Hold on, wait, go back," he told James. "There! That looks like the guy we saw earlier, Chloe," Eddie turned to her.
"It does!" James was confused.
"The new assistant headmaster; my granddad said that he would be retiring soon, and that guy was going to take over. I'm telling you, this is the guy."
"That's impossible. There's no way that can be him if this book belonged to Robert Frobisher-Smythe."
"Maybe it's his grandson, or something?" Chloe suggested.
"Maybe, but I'm telling you, he looks just like him. It's the spitting image," Eddie insisted. "Chloe's mom and my dad told us to remember who the real enemy was, and that guy could possibly tie into this mystery. I didn't like the look in his eye when he saw me. I think we should keep an eye on him." James nodded, flipping the page.
"Wait, we've got a name. Henry Cortez the first," James announced. Eddie's eyes widened.
"That's him! Well, the name, anyways. Granddad said it was Mr Cortez, that's the name!"
"So we've definitely got a lead; I think we should check out that door again, like Eddie said," Chloe agreed.
"Right; we'll go tomorrow, early in the morning, while everyone is asleep." James plan seemed as good as any. They wouldn't be able to go tonight, what with everyone watching movies and Chloe and Eddie's secret date to watch the meteors tonight.
Later that night, the kids said goodbye to their parents after dinner, and gathered in the living room. The brought out blankets, pillows, and other comfy things of the like for their movie marathon. Chloe and Eddie remained in their rooms as if they were actually busy for the night while everyone else got into pjs and headed downstairs. Sophia and James got to use their prize from the talent show also, which was convenient. Sophia had put on the hoody James had gotten her, and somehow they managed to get it to smell like James, which she obviously liked. As everyone snuggled down together into a big blob of people, Trudy brought them all hot chocolate and popcorn. They had planned on watching movies the rest of the night, and Trudy was going to allow them to sleep in the living room tonight.
Upstairs, Chloe was waiting for a text from Eddie that the coast was clear. Her phone buzzed, a smile playing on her lips. She threw her robe on, grabbed a blanket, and, having already gotten dressed to go outside, crept downstairs, careful not to be seen. Eddie had grabbed two chairs for them and snuck them out earlier. When everyone seemed to be distracted, the two of them slipped out of the house undetected. Once they were safely outside on the porch, both of them let out sighs they had been holding, laughing. Eddie bit his lower lip, staring at the girl. He looked extremely cute in his little beanie, his winter coat and gloves. Chloe had thrown her robe on over her pjs and a light sweatshirt, but still brought a blanket for them to share. Chloe smiled at him, giggling. She reached up slowly, grabbing him by the back of his neck and pulling him down into a kiss as his hands took to her waist, pulling her into him.
After their kiss, the two of them sat down in their chairs, wrapping the blanket around them and snuggling down together, looking to the sky to see if they could see any meteors. After a few minutes, Chloe lay her head down on Eddie's chest, and Eddie smiled at her. When he looked up, he spotted one. "Chloe, look," he said, pointing to the sky as another shot past them.
"Wow," she awed. Soon, quite a few of them were whizzing by. Under the blanket, Eddie wrapped his arm around Chloe's waist, resting his hand on her hip. Watching the meteors, both of them were oblivious to the fact that someone else was now out there with them.
"So... this is what broadcasting a tutorial and doing homework looks like, huh?" It was Scarlett. The couple jumped, looking back. Their cover was blown.
"Okay, so maybe this isn't exactly homework," Eddie started.
"Or a video broadcast," Chloe added.
"But we just wanted to be alone," Eddie finished. Scarlett crossed her arms over her chest and smirked.
"Uh huh. Well you could have said that, love birds. If you think your relationship is secret or something, you've got another thing coming. Everyone else knew before you two did. Enjoy your date," she told them, smirking once more. She returned inside to the movie and Eddie sighed.
"So much for not getting caught," Eddie joked. Chloe smiled.
"It's okay. As long as your here, I don't care who else is." Eddie kissed her quickly on the lips.
"You're amazing," he told her.
"I know," she joked. Eddie burst into laughter, as did she. This was fun for him; getting to see Chloe. He loved it; loved her. Chosen one or not, everything in the world seemed to be telling him that Chloe was right. He liked her, she liked him, it was all working itself out. For now, anyways.
