Sly Cooper and the Gang in: Clan of the Cave Raccoon

The three of them looked in horror at the incoming avalanche. Slowly but surely it made it's way down the mountain.

Sly:"Well that's a great job you have done there!"

The amount of sarcasm was unbearable to hear, almost making Mercury flip again.

Mercury:"Come again? This is your fault!"

Mercury kept somewhat calm, thinking of what they could do and what their chances of getting out of this are.

Sly:"Yeah, right. I am the one, who let his pet go on a rampage and cause an entire avalanche!"

Mercury was more than just slightly angry at Sly at the moment, he couldn't possibly understand that though.

Mercury:"I kept him from trying to kill you, you know? Maybe I should have just let him."

Mercury went right up to Sly, making sure to look him straight into his eyes as he said his last few words.

Bob:"Not the right time...?"

Mercury looked at Bob for a moment, then to the incoming avalanche and back to Sly. As Mercury brought up his hands, Sly got ready for what he thought would be another punch, but he was surprised when he was turned around. Looking back he saw Mercury taking off his paraglider and then looking around for something.

Sly:"What are you doing?"

Sly turned around and followed his gaze, trying to see what he is looking for. Mercury pointed over to some big trees.

Mercury:"I am looking for cover. Bob? I need your help for a second."

Mercury walked forth with the paraglider in his hands and Bob at his side. Sly slowly followed them.

Sly:"Why don't we just use the paraglider?"

Mercury turned around to look at Sly for a moment.

Mercury:"You see a thing such as this paraglider isn't really sturdy. I am going to be honest. Bob, with all there muscles, is no light weight. We could of course use the paraglider, if you feel like leaving one of us behind?"

Mercury looked into Sly's eyes, waiting for an answer. After an uncomfortable moment, Sly set his gaze upon the avalanche and then back to Mercury, looking into his waiting eyes. Sly nodded, he didn't feel like leaving anyone behind.

Mercury:"Hm. That's something I can work with. Bob I need that bone of yours."

Mercury walked over to one of the big trees he spotted earlier, opening the paraglider. He put each handle, used for controlling the paraglider, at both sides around the tree. As Bob came over, Mercury told him to line up the bone to the tree to give it some more power for the incoming avalanche.

Sly:"What exactly are you doing?"

Sly looked at them somewhat confused. Mercury looked over to him as he grabbed the paraglider, seeing if it is tight enough around the tree.

Mercury:"Just come here and hold onto Bob. He will hold the paraglider and with a little bit of luck this tree will hold out long enough for us to last through the avalanche."

Sly looked at him in somewhat disbelief for a moment.

Sly:"Is that all you could come up with?"

Sly was uncertain whether he should follow their plan or not just try to run.

Mercury:"I am sorry I am not Bentley, I am working with what I have got here. So do you feel like coming here or not?"

Mercury looked at Sly expectantly for a few second, before he finally came over. Just in time, the avalanche was upon them, only a few second away. They braced for the incoming snow, holding on tightly to Bob, who was holding on tightly to the paraglider. As it finally hit them, they were almost pushed off right away, the snow rushed through like lightning. Holding on at best as they possibly could they felt how it got colder by the second. Second after second they wondered how long they still had to last, when they heard a noise none of them liked to hear, a slight creaking. They looked at the bone as it was bending further than anticipated, knowing they were in trouble. It got harder to hold on and before they could do anything about it the bone broke in two, causing the tree and them to get pulled with the snow. They tried their best to not get buried beneath the snow, holding onto the tree. They were heading right for a somewhat high drop, off a cliff, leading back down into the vale. Before they fell however, they managed to get their hands onto, what seemed to be, a rock. It was to no use whatsoever, as they saw one of the other trees head right for them. Instead of waiting to get hit by it, they prayed and dropped off the cliff. They tumbled and tumbled over and over again, hitting rocks and everything on their way down. Mercury couldn't really tell what happened to the other but he could tell that he wasn't the only one who just got hurt. Their were relieved when the spinning finally stopped, even if their saviour was a hard stone wall. Mercury cringed himself, trying to look up and see the others. There was Bob and further off was Sly, but not how he wanted him to look like.

Mercury:"Sly!"

Mercury stood up, almost falling back down, he seemed to have sprained his ankle. Nevertheless he limped past Bob, quickly glancing at him to see if he was hurt badly, crouching down next to Sly. Mercury looked over his body noticing he was shredded, cuts covering his torso and legs. He grabbed his wrist, looking for a pulse... to no avail. Mercury didn't give up, he lowered his head to his chest his face turned to Sly's, looking if he was still breathing, while listening for a heartbeat. There was nothing.

Mercury:"Sly...?"

Mercury was stressed out and horrified, but his reflexes knew what he had to do. He got close to Sly, pressing down on his ribcage at the spot of his hearth. Every now and then he would breathe air into Sly's mouth, making sure he got fresh air. Mercury repeated this, over and over, checking for a pulse again. Nothing.

Mercury~"Come on Aaran, give me a freaking hand here!"

Mercury was trying to keep his calm, continuing to do his best at reviving Sly.

Mercury~"I know, but this has nothing to do with what happened there. Just help me right now!"

Mercury was literally crying right now, checking again, he still couldn't hear anything. Bob was behind him looking over Sly just lying there.

Mercury~"Fine, I can do it on my own."

Mercury knew he was probably lying to himself, but he saw no other way than lying to keep him from turning to a tear waterfall. He did it again and again. Bob was thinking about just making him stop, seeing that it won't work.

Mercury:"You know that right, Sly? I am not just going to let you die like this. Not after what you have said to me, you are not going to die like him. You hear me? I won't let you!"

Mercury was smiling, tears flowing down his face. Mercury still felt nothing, but he kept trying. After a moment Bob couldn't see him do it anymore, he grabbed Mercury's shoulder, signalling him to stop. Mercury looked at Bob with tears in his eyes, which made him remove his hand again.

Mercury~"Please..."

Mercury begged for anything, any sort of assistance. As he felt like he lost all his hope, he felt this energy he has felt ever so often, going through his arms and down into his palms. Mercury looked at his hands for a moment, before trying again, this time it had to work. Pressing down and blowing air into his lungs, combined with the energy Aaran provided had to work, it had to. Mercury was calm now, tears gone, mind settled down, all focussing on this one task. Reviving Sly. Pressing down a few times on his ribcage, eyeing Sly, he pressed his lips onto his for the last time. Mercury stopped there, making it almost seem like a kiss. To him it even felt like one. He wouldn't even mind it, if it weren't for the inconvenience of Sly being close to death. Mercury pulled away, looking down at his face, hoping for anything at all. When he finally saw it happen. Sly gasped for air, and not just for a little bit on his part. Mercury was relieved to see he was alive, even if he fell back down. Mercury brought him back to life, but that didn't mean he doesn't have to rest for at least a day or two. He fell down next to him, tears of happiness filling his eyes now. Mercury looked at Bob who seemed amazed by his job.

Mercury:"He is fine now, he just needs to rest for a day or two."

Bob smiled at Mercury as he stood up. Mercury picked up Sly, laying him over his back. As they wanted to move however, Mercury forgot about his sprained ankle, almost falling down with Sly. Bob quickly grabbed him from behind, giving him support.

Mercury:"Sorry, that was quite unfortunate on my part."

Mercury smiled at Bob, looking somewhat exhausted.

Bob:"Let me take him."

Mercury nodded and put Sly into Bob's arms. They finally went on their way back to the cave, slightly sad that they didn't find what they were looking for. Bob looked at Sly and then to Mercury, limping next to him. Stopping for a moment as he moaned out in pain. Bob lowered his back towards Mercury, signalling him to hop on.

Mercury:"Are you... sure?"

Bob just nodded, smiling at him.

Mercury:"Thanks."

Mercury climbed on Bob's back, thankful for getting off some pressure on his foot. He snuggled his snout into Bob's neck and closed his eyes, letting them rest for just a moment.

Mercury~"Thanks to you too... Aaran."

Bob managed to get them back, not much further away from the hideout. Mercury woke up as they slowly approached the hideout. He signalled Bob that he could manage the rest on his own, thanking him again. Mercury didn't even know where he would start to explain this to Bentley. This probably threw them off their time schedule very badly. Mercury entered first, followed by Bob with Sly in his arms. Mercury hoped that Bentley was too distracted with his laptop, but sadly he wasn't. Actually he was looking right at them.

Mercury:"It's not as bad as you think it is."

Mercury smiled at Bentley innocently. Bentley pushed up his glasses, rubbing his eyes for a moment, before looking back at them.

Bentley:"What exactly happened, that caused, what I am seeing right now?"

Bentley looked at Mercury and Bob. Mercury and Bob looked each other in the eye for a second, before looking back to Bentley.

Mercury:"Uhm... an avalanche?"

Bentley's jaw dropped, unable to understand what they did.

Bentley:"You know what? As long as you are telling me Sly is fine, I am not going to ask any further."

Bentley looked at Sly lying in Bob's arms.

Mercury:"He is. I am about to handle the rest, with some of the first aid stuff I have left."

Bentley nodded as they went into the further back of the cave, placing Sly on a rock they covered in leaves. Mercury looked at Bob, fixing him up first. He had minor bruises but was mostly unharmed. Mercury smiled at Bob as he left the separated, small side cave. Mercury was bending over Sly, looking at his cuts from the fall. It seemed like it hit him the hardest. Mercury guessed it was karma, but at the same time he hated thinking that way. Sly didn't know, he couldn't have. Mercury pulled off everything of Sly's clothing except his boxers, starting to attach bandages to his arms and legs first. He looked at his torso, slightly cringing at the sight. After he was done, he covered him in a bear fur, that Bob provided him. Mercury sat down on a rock nearby, tending his own wounds now. After he was finished he looked over Sly once more, checking if he was still breathing. Mercury went back to the room with Bentley, seeing him and Bob sit at the stone table.

Bentley:"So, I imagine you already know yourself, this might push us to the edge of our set time limit. I am not saying we can already forget it, but we are really close to loosing it. No more set backs now, which brings me to the next part. You guys probably already noticed that Murray is out of house. Bob he is waiting for you over at this marker I set for you. Mercury I was hoping while Murray is getting Bob back into climbing shape you and Sly would provide me some extra information about this entire place. But seeing how both of you..."

Mercury looked at Bentley for a moment.

Mercury:"What do you need done?"

Bentley looked at Mercury slightly concerned.

Bentley:"Are you sure about this? You should rest like Sly."

Mercury nodded at Bentley.

Mercury:"I can't just sit here, besides it provides me more chances, to find what we were looking for originally anyway."

Mercury smiled at Bentley.

Bentley:"I see... well I know I can't stop you anyway. So all I need is some extra info, don't let yourself get caught somewhere. You know I am not good at rescue missions."

Mercury slightly chuckled at Bentley words. Bob and Mercury set out, continuing and strictly following their schedule.

End of Chapter twenty one.
