I was screaming into the canyon at the moment of my death. The echo I created outlasted my last breath.

Part One: Scarlett
Her eyes flashed open as the sun came through the open blinds of the hotel room. Room 216 in the Bellagio housed Scarlett and Brie at the moment, but by the end of today, all her stuff would be out of Jon's house and she intended to not set foot in Vegas for a really long time. Possibly ever.
She laid there for a moment willing her already-churning stomach to settle down. Ever since Sunday, she'd thrown up every day. It was weird cause she didn't feel sick and if she'd eaten anything bad, it wouldn't have affected her for this long. Once she got back to Connecticut, she'd go to her doctor there but today, she was just going to will the nausea away. Yep, just will it away.
It took another minute for her stomach to overpower her and she rushed to the bathroom. She emptied the contents of her stomach and wished it all to go away. She felt someone come up behind her and they pulled her hair back and rubbed a hand soothingly over her back. She knew it was Brie. Once she was done, she flushed the toilet and sat back against the cool tile of the wall and felt relief flood through her. Ugh, whatever this bug was had to go.
"Want some water?" Brie asked.
Scarlett nodded her head and thankfully accepted the glass once Brie returned.
"I got a text from Colby saying we should be ready to go by 1:30. He's gonna make sure Jon's not at the house."
Scarlett again nodded and sipped the water.
"How you feeling?"
"Better, thank you. I swear, I don't know what's wrong with me."
Brie shrugged, "I have no idea either. I can go to the store and get you some ginger ale and some crackers since I'm sure you're not feeling up to a proper breakfast. How's that sound?"
Scarlett smiled at her best friend, "That sounds great. Thank you so much for taking care of me."
"It's what besties do. You've taken care of me when I've been sick or stupid drunk or crying before."
It was true and Scarlett loved that they were there for each other. That she had somebody who would take care of her, no matter what. Brie grabbed her purse before heading out the door, promising to be back soon. When she left, Scarlett pulled herself off the floor, brushing her teeth and changing into some comfortable clothes for moving her stuff later. She looked at her phone and saw another message from Colby assuring her that he was taking care of the situation. She smiled and sent a text back, thanking him.
She truly was lucky to have the three people with her today. The only person missing was Bryan and that was because he'd had a last minute signing come up. He'd been truly upset not to be there, but the other three and Scarlett had all assured him that everything was under control. By all normal conventions, Joe and Colby shouldn't be here either. They were Jon's friends first, his brothers, but with everything that had happened, they'd firmly stood behind her and been two of her greatest supports through all this madness. She would never be able to express her gratitude in words, but she hoped they knew how much she loved and appreciated them.
Especially today.
She was removing the final barrier. After they were done packing her stuff, she would never see Jon or even be near him again if she didn't want to. He would finally be out of her life and a part of her was sad about it. She knew she should despise him and a small part of her did, but he was also the biggest love of her life and her heart hurt at the prospect of cutting him completely out. She had been in love with other men, yes, but Jon was the first one who she knew loved her back. Completely and without question or reason. He just loved her. She felt that in her bones. She didn't know what had gone wrong or why he had cheated. She felt there was no rhyme or reason to it and her head still swirled with questions, especially after her panic attack on Sunday. The way he'd looked at her made her wonder about everything. He didn't have the expression of a man who didn't want to be with her. He looked like a guy so rapturously in love and concerned about her well-being. If he was still in love with her, then why had he cheated? What did Saraya have that she couldn't have given him? She had a feeling she'd never know that answer to that question.
There was a knock on the door and Scarlett paused in her thinking to answer. It was Brie carrying a drug-store grocery bag.
Scarlett quirked an eyebrow, "What happened to your key?"
Brie chuckled, "I was lost in my head and forgot it. You know how I get scattered sometimes."
She handed the bag over to Scarlett.
"Here."
"Thanks!"
Fishing through the bag, she froze once she realized its contents. There was the ginger ale and crackers, but there was also something else: a pregnancy test. A three-pack Clearblue Advanced Digital test, to be precise. She slowly took the box out of the bag and stared at it in her hand. Brie cleared her throat and Scarlett dragged her eyes upward to her best friend.
"Brie, what is this?"
The twin held up her hands, almost shielding herself from any flurry of emotions that might flow from the woman in front of her.
"I know that this may come as a shock, but I just need you to consider the possibility. You've been sick for the last couple days and you're showing no other symptoms of sickness like a cold or the flu or sinus problems or even an allergy. It's been almost three weeks since you and Jon were together so if you are pregnant, this would be about the time you'd start getting sick. I just think you should take it and know either way."
Scarlett was at a loss for words. She tried to think about her illness the last few days and it was true what Brie said. She hadn't shown any other symptoms other than the nausea. Oh god, she thought. Could she be pregnant? If she was, what then? She'd have to tell Jon and…fuck, she didn't want to do that. At all. She didn't want to see him. That was part of the reason she'd left her very secure job.
Goddammit.
"Scar…"
Her eyes whipped up to Brie's again, "Yeah?"
"Do you want to take the test?"
It took everything in her, but she slowly nodded. Brie grabbed her hand gently and pulled her into the bathroom. She opened the box and handed the first stick to Scarlett.
"Figured you could do all three just to be sure."
Again, Scarlett only nodded. Words were not forming in her scrambled brain. She pulled her pants down, having no qualms about using the bathroom in front of her best friend. She took the first test and then the second and third, lining them up on the counter beside her when she was done. After she'd washed her hands, she closed the toilet seat and sat back down, nervously wringing her hands. Brie sat on the edge of the bathtub and, after watching Scarlett for a moment, reached over to grab one of her hands. Scarlett looked up, searching her best friend's face, almost looking for an answer.
"Scarlett, no matter what…I'm here. Okay?"
The youngest McMahon's eyes misted over slightly and she nodded once, thanking the stars and heavens above that Brie was with her right now. Her thoughts moved back to Jon and she could only wonder what his reaction would be if she were indeed carrying his child. Would he be pissed? Would he demand a paternity test because he would question if he was the father? Hopefully, he knew her better than that. Would he even want to be a part of the kid's life? She knew he'd be a wonderful dad just from his time around her nieces, but would he want this child when he didn't want to be with her? Could he walk away and act like it didn't exist? Her heart screamed no and in the back of her head, she knew that even if he didn't want it, nobody in the WWE would let him forget about her or the baby. They would hound him relentlessly if he chose freedom over fatherhood. The concept of work was a whole other can of worms unto itself. She'd quit to make it easier for everyone: herself, Jon, Joe, Colby, Brie and Nikki, Glenn, everyone. To lighten the tension and stress for all parties. If she was pregnant, that idea would fly completely out the window. Emotions would be heightened tenfold and Jon would be mercilessly questioned and scrutinized. Ugh, this was just ridiculous.
Another thought occurred to her then. If Jon wanted the baby, what did that mean for them? Would he want to get back together? To get married? Oh my god, what would she do? Whenever she'd thought about having children, she'd always imagined the normal stuff. Ya know, being in love and married and stable and happy. Not being single, recently cheated on, totally lost and miserable. If Jon did want them to get back together, could she do it for the sake of the baby? Would that even be good for the kid? To have two parents who loved him or her, but didn't want to be around each other. Jon didn't want to be with her and she could never trust him again. Not with her body or her heart or her soul. She absolutely could not. How could she subject a child- her child- to that? She and Jon both deserved to be happy in the end and, since they couldn't do that with each other, wouldn't it be better if their son or daughter had two loving families instead of one unhappy one? Her brain was in overload when she felt Brie gently squeeze her hand.
"It's time, honey."
Scarlett closed her eyes and picked up the first stick. Taking a slow deep breath, she opened her eyes and stared down at the test seeing the digitized word in all its shining glory:
PREGNANT
Quickly grabbing the next one, it said the same thing.
PREGNANT
And the third…
PREGNANT
Fuck...

Part Two: Jon
We are coming by today to pack all of Scarlett's stuff. Can you leave for a couple hours?
Jon read the message from Colby and quickly typed back a response.
Yes, that's fine. What time?
We'll get there at 2.
Ok, I'll be gone.
There was no response. He didn't figure there would be. Colby had only barely spoken to him on Sunday to prep for their match and then he'd gotten nothing the past two days at Raw and Smackdown. When news of Scarlett's departure broke on Monday, any friends he had were gone. Everyone was angry at him, including the McMahons, who he in turn blamed for this whole debacle. Nobody was talking to him except for short conversations about promos or matches in which his coworkers barely looked at him.
He looked down at his phone and saw he had about 15 minutes to get out of the house. He figured there was no reason to stick around so he grabbed his wallet and keys and made his way to the door. When he opened it, however, someone was waiting for him.
Saraya.
"Oh, hey there, handsome."
He was struck dumb for a moment, but quickly collected himself.
"What the fuck are you doing here?"
"Oh, I was just in the neighborhood. Can I come in?"
"No. How did you find out where I live?"
Saraya smirked and quickly stepped forward, shimmying past him to get into the house. He sighed and closed the door.
"Answer my question."
She turned, staring around at his place, seeing everything that would soon be moved out. Her eyes finally landed on him in amused wonderment.
"She hasn't moved her stuff out yet."
"No, but they're coming today so you really need to leave so that I can leave. Just spit it out. How do you know where I live and why are you here?"
"Well, my fake lover, I just so happen to have a hacker friend or two. Once you know how to get past the firewall on the postal website, you can find anybody's home address. Even one for a Mr. Jonathan Good."
He glared at her murderously. This chick really was crazy.
"Bet that cost you a pretty penny."
"Nah, I just had to give him a blowjob. Wasn't really difficult at all."
"Wow, classy move. Just makes me happy I didn't actually sleep with you. Well, you're here now. What do you want?"
"I believe you owe me something shiny."
He rolled his eyes, "You went through all this fucking trouble for a goddamn bracelet?"
"Well, you haven't exactly been returning my calls."
That was true and he couldn't exactly argue against it. She'd been calling every day, several times a day, trying to get what he owed her and he hadn't wanted to deal with.
"Ok, well, let's go now then. We'll go and get you your stupid bracelet and then you can leave and go to wherever you live."
"Oh, well I was thinking I could maybe stay here."
"And you thought wrong. Now, come on, we've got to leave."
She sighed dramatically but followed him nonetheless and they went out the door. He locked it and turned around, thankful that they hadn't been seen.
"What the fuck?!"
Fuck me, Jon thought.
Colby, Brie, Joe and Scarlett were all standing next to a rental truck. It had a small u-haul trailer hitched to it. They were five minutes early.
The exclamation had come from Colby and everyone stood in stunned silence. Nobody made a move but Jon didn't care if they did. His eyes were only on Scarlett and her face…god, any parts of himself that had begun to heal were quickly shattered by the expression on her face. Her eyes were trained on him and they were wide with surprise and hurt. He couldn't imagine what she was thinking but it couldn't be worse than what he thought she was thinking. He'd told her that he didn't want to be with Saraya but now, they were coming out of his house- their house- together and he knew exactly what it looked like. He wanted to go to her and tell her that it wasn't what it looked like. He even took a step forward and that's when all hell broke loose.
Before another step could be taken, Joe and Colby rushed forward and started beating the living shit out of him. There were kicks to his side and punches that landed square in his face and head. He tried to cover up as best he could, but when two men were beating on you with everything they had, it was hard to block anything. He could hear Saraya screaming at them to get off of him but it was ineffectual in the face of their blind rage. After about a minute, he heard another person scream out.
"Stop!"
It was Scarlett.
His former brothers immediately quit their onslaught and turned to face her. Walking back, they left him in a pile on the ground. He knew at least one rib was broken and probably some more were too, but he tried his best not to focus on that. Instead, he looked at his love who was staring eerily down at him.
"Scar, he deserves this, baby girl."
Joe's voice and his words reached him.
"I know, but it won't solve anything. Let's just get this done. Here are the keys. Go open the door."
Joe and Colby each took deep breaths before grabbing an armful of boxes each and stomping past him to get into the house. Once they had passed, Scarlett turned around, her back to him, and looked at Brie. He could see her taking deep breaths, almost like she was composing herself, while Brie comforted her with soothing words. While they were distracted, Saraya edged toward him.
"C'mon, let me help you up."
"Get the fuck away from me," he sneered at her.
She sighed and whispered quietly, so the girls wouldn't hear, "I'm not leaving Vegas until I get what you promised."
He looked up at her with utter disdain, "You're a fucking piece of work. Fine, go to the store and text me the address. I'll meet you there. Now, get away from me."
She scurried off, in fear because of the expression on his face. His eyes went back to Scarlett who was looking at him with confusion and questions in her green eyes. Brie asked her something and Scarlett's eyes went wide as she looked at her friend. One hand went to her hip and the other rested on her stomach and she looked weary and tired. She looked from Brie to him and then back again. Brie's hand came up to her shoulder.
"I'll understand if you don't want to say anything about it now."
He barely heard it, but he did. What the fuck did that mean? What was it? Was it something to do with him? Was Scarlett ok? Was something wrong with her physically? Emotionally? He wanted to know.
She shook her head, "Let's just go inside and get this done."
Brie nodded, but her eyes looked sad. She walked towards him and Scarlett followed her. Brie passed him first, not more than two feet away. When Scarlett got close enough, he couldn't help himself but speak. He knew he probably shouldn't, but he had to reassure her or maybe, just himself.
"Nothing happened with her. It wasn't what it looked like."
She froze but didn't look at him. Shaking her head, he could see tears slowly running down the side of her face. He tentatively reached out and rested his hand on her lower leg, fingers curling around her calf muscle.
"I'm sorry. For it all. I miss you…so much. I hate that you felt you had to leave the company because of me. I'm just so sorry. I hate myself."
She finally looked down at him, "Whatever happened between you and her is not my business anymore. You need to let go of me, Jon. Before the boys or Brie see."
He could feel his face crumble, but he slowly lifted his hand away from her, shrinking down into himself.
"I'm sorry."
She said nothing but just walked away. Away from him. He slowly picked himself up and made his way to his car, gingerly climbing in and starting it. He looked up and he could see Scarlett through the front window of the house. She was wrapped in Colby's arms and he could tell she was crying. Her body was heaving with breaths as sobs wracked her. He had to get away. Away from her. He couldn't handle seeing the pain anymore. He would break soon if he stuck around. He would break and tell her the truth and then she would lose everything else she had. Her family would spurn her and he knew she needed them badly. He just had to leave her alone and stop thinking about her all the time. She needed to move on and so did he.
His subconscious laughed at him and called it a lost cause.
