What would have happened if Sarah hadn't been born with the Super Soldier Serum. (Sarah is 6, James is 12)
Sarah Margret Rogers was not a normal girl, and I don't mean in the sense of her upbringing or that her entire family were super heroes, (though that's not exactly normal either.)
The reason that Sarah wasn't normal was because of the fact that she was sick… had been since birth. Unlike James she hadn't been born with the Super Soldier Serum, apparently she wasn't as lucky as him, something that haunted and bothered her.
Sarah had been born with an irregular heartbeat and bad lungs, which gave her VERY bad asthma, and she looked much like her father had before he had gotten the serum. All those put together was not a good combination. It left her with having attacks at least every other week, something the six year old girl dreaded and hated with all her heart, almost as much as she hated needles (though she would never admit it).
This day was almost no different from any other, she always had the same routine. This was a normal day in the life of little sick Sarah Margaret Rogers.
It started with the little girl waking up at 7 am in the morning and getting dressed in her sun yellow jeans and bright blue t-shirt. She quickly walked over to her bathroom to brush her teeth and hair when Natasha knocked on the door at 7:15 am.
"Sarah?" Natasha quietly asked as she cracked the door open slowly.
"In the bathroom!" Came the reply.
Natasha shook her head sighing heavily and walked over to the bathroom to help her daughter. She wished her daughter would sleep in later then 7 am, yet the young girl refused to, and she even woke up without an alarm.
Nat walked into the bathroom to find her daughter sitting in the chair they had placed in front of the mirror, her hair brush already in hand.
"Have you used your inhaler yet today?" Nat asked as she took the hairbrush out of her daughter's hand and started to brush through the layered curly locks of gold that Sarah had.
"Not yet," was the reply.
Natasha nodded as she got the tangles out of her daughter's hair and put it up in a high ponytail.
"Mom? When will I be able to go to a normal school like James instead of being homeschooled?" the six year old asked.
"I'm not sure дорогой. Maybe when you're older," Natasha answered
"But Thorrun is going to first grade Mama! Why can't I!?" pouted Sarah.
"Sarah… We've been over this… since you have such bad asthma we can't risk you going to school and getting injured. You wouldn't be able to fight for yourself if some villain attacked the school," Natasha tried to explain to her daughter who was having non of it. "Plus if you weren't homeschooled then you won't get to learn how to draw with Daddy or dance with me."
Sarah didn't respond and instead hopped off the chair and walked out of her room to join the boys of the family at breakfast in the kitchen. It was now 7:30.
Steve was of course cooking his famous homemade breakfast of pancakes, fresh squeezed orange juice or a cup of milk, cut up fruit, and sides of bacon and sausage. Some days instead of pancakes they had waffles, but it was pretty much the same everyday, mostly because of Sarah's MANY allergies, such as tree nuts, peanuts, coconut, latex, and shellfish, and melons. The Rogers were lucky that she wasn't allergic to gluten or dairy or she would never grow.
Sarah took her regular seat at the kitchen island in one of the bar chairs that lined the counter.
"Morning Sarah!" Steve greeted his daughter.
"Morning Daddy!" Sarah sung back as she jumped into her seat.
Natasha followed her daughter into the kitchen and walked over kissing Steve on the cheek before walking over to the cabinet that held Sarah's medicine and inhaler.
Natasha poured two pills into her hand and grabbed a bottle of water from the fridge before handing the things to Sarah.
Sarah quickly picked the two pills up drowning them down with the bottle of water and took one puff of her inhaler before giving the inhaler back to her mother who put it away. It was now 7:45.
James was already finishing his plate when Sarah started, just like normal, but he always took seconds and finished at the same time as his sister to keep her happy, plus, she did get up at 7 am in the morning just so that she could go and drop him off at school and say goodbye to him instead of sleeping till 9.
Just like everyday James took his sister's empty plate and his own and carried them over to the sink and put them in the sink along with the empty glasses that had once held orange juice and milk.
"You to ready to go?" Steve asked the two kids who both nodded. It was now 8:02, they were 2 minutes behind schedule.
Nat kissed both of her babies on the top of their foreheads and waved them off as they walked into the elevator. Ever since Sarah had been born she had turned into something of a stay at home mom, she was the one who stayed at home and took care of her and the one who made sure she always had her medicine on time. She did all this because she somewhat blamed herself for what had happened to Sarah, if Steve had just married someone else, someone with less red then her… then maybe Sarah wouldn't have had this problem.
According to Banner, Sarah was sick because for some reason her body didn't except the serum like James's had, instead it caused her all these problems, and every time her body had an attack it was actually trying to replicate the serum that was suppose to be in her veins.
Meanwhile Steve was buckling Sarah in her car seat, something he insisted on doing though the 6 year old could do it perfectly fine herself.
"Daddy! Let me do it!" she whined pulling his hands away from the seatbelt and carseat.
"Alright! Alright," he chuckled before going to the driver's seat and buckling his own. Sarah sat behind the driver's seat and James behind the passenger's.
It was a 20-minute drive to school, which consisted of James and Sarah battling it out in an intense game of concentration.
The category would always start with colors, before 11 year old James would beat his sister with the color Aquamarine which Sarah had yet to believe was an actual color. Steve would then have to clarify that aquamarine was a shade of blue so it was in fact a color.
Next came the category of Superheroes, which would always go to Sarah. And if the two had yet to run out of time they would do something that had to do with what Sarah was learning, this week it was States, James always made sure to let his sister win this round so that she won 2 out of 3 matches.
James got dropped off at School at 8:23 am, his school started at 8:30. He said goodbye to his dad and his sister before running into the school.
The two watched him off before driving back towards the tower.
"So Sarah… where do you want to stop today?" Steve asked his daughter looking at her through the rearview mirror.
Everyday after dropping James off the two would make a stop before heading to the tower, they would go to places like Central Park, Grand Central Station, to the Café across from the Tower, to the statue of Liberty or Ellis Island, they even sometimes went on the public's tour of Avenger's Tower undercover before sometimes at the end revealing themselves and taking pictures and giving out autographs with the other people on the tour.
"The Art Museum!" Sarah cheered.
Steve smiled and nodded before heading towards the Modern Art Museum. They arrived at 9:02.
They spent 3 hours going through the museum, tagging along on a tour before getting board and heading to the gift shop, Sarah's favorite part.
They left the museum at 12:47 pm with two new sketchbooks, one for both Steve and Sarah, along with graphite and colored pencils.
By the time they got back to the tower it was 1:03 pm.
They walked into the living room of Avenger's Tower where Natasha had set up Sarah's lesson for the day. A giant puzzle of the United States in which each State was a piece of the puzzle.
"You ready my дорогой?" Natasha asked.
Sarah nodded and the two started on the puzzle.
This went until 2:34 pm. They had finished the puzzle in record time and had moved onto multiplication.
That was when Steve left the tower to pick up James from school. The two boys didn't get back till 4:12. They had stopped at the store to pick up some steak, which Steve was going to prepare for dinner. Usually the Avengers had dinner together but tonight was family night in which all the avengers would have dinner separately with their own families.
Steve started cooking at 4:23, he started so early cause he wanted to make some homemade sauce and bread.
Meanwhile James started doing his homework while Natasha continued to teach Sarah in math and even gave her a worksheet so that she could pretend to do homework with James, Sarah even tried to help James when he had problems on his homework, but that didn't exactly work though. James usually had to help her.
They did this until 5:48 at which time Steve yelled at them saying dinner was ready.
The family sat around their dining room table and devoured the steak. Well, more like Steve and James devoured it.
They finished dinner at exactly 6:27 after having crème bullae for dessert.
Afterwards they all gathered in front of the TV to watch a movie or TV before the kids had to go to bed at 8:30. Tonight they decided to watch the Lion King.
It was 7:57 when the kids got ready for bed. James took a shower and Sarah took a bath before Natasha tucked in James and Steve Sarah. Just to have the entire cycle start over the next day.
