Roy stood over Edward, aiming the gun directly at him.
Edward looked at the barrel with wide, confused eyes. "Why?" His voice broke.
Roy gave him that familiar smirk that he'd grown to like.
"Because I no longer need you. You've served your propose." Roy said.
Edward shook his head with a deep scowl, fisting his hands.
"What the hell is that supposed to mean?" He hissed, trying to stuff down the throbbing of his tearing heart.
Roy laughed. "Well, you've helped me climb the ladder, so to speak." He said with a sly smile.
"You are nothing to me." He said.
Edward gaped at him. Had he really just said that? The man he had come to think of as a father had just told him he meant nothing?
Roy shook his head. "And here I thought you were smarter than this. I figured you would have guessed my plans much sooner. Guess I was wrong." He said.
Edward glared up at him. "I guess I just shouldn't have trusted you like I did. Should've known you were rotten at the core." He snarled up at him.
Roy snickered and nodded his head. "Yes I am. And I'm proud of it." He said as his smile faded away and he sighed.
"I really had hoped it wouldn't come to this..." He said, cocking the gun. "But you've become an annoyance to me." He said.
Edward felt cold shivers run through his blood as his heart clenched up. He knew what was coming.
His breaths came in quicker at the sight of Roy's gleeful grin.
"Good bye, Fullmetal Alchemist." Roy said as he pulled the trigger.
Pain entered Edward's stomach as he dropped to the ground. His hand went to his bleeding wound as he tried to keep the blood from leaking out.
His eyes shifted up to Roy. "Why...Dad?..." He croaked out, griping at his wound even tighter as he felt his eyes welling up.
"I am not your father." Roy spat, looking down at Edward with hatred in his onyx eyes.
"Die you horrible boy." Roy snarled as he landed a kicked to Edward's side, making the boy curl in on himself.
Roy spit on him and walked away, leaving Edward alone.
Edward watched him leave, taking his heart with him. He felt like he had been shot in his chest instead of his stomach.
He felt a gaping hole where his heart should have been as the man he'd come to consider his father retreated into the distance.
He felt hot tears spilling down his cheeks as he clenched his bleeding wound. He didn't care at that point if he bled out.
He watched quietly as the blood pooled around him like a silent embrace. He chuckled to himself.
He should've known Roy would do that. He'd always held suspicions about the man but as the time went on, he pushed those suspicions down as he grew fond of him.
They now rose up as if his own brain was laughing at his stupidity for trusting him.
He heard someone calling his name. He frowned, he knew the voice but it was wrong, out of place.
He looked up into Roy Mustang's worried face. "FullMetal? What the hell happened to you?" He asked frantically, knelling down to inspect his wound.
Edward slapped away his hand and inched away from him. He glared harshly up at Roy.
Roy frowned at Ed's actions and held his hand up in defense from Ed's slap.
"What's the matter? I'm trying to help you!" Roy said with confusion.
Edward stared blankly at him. "Strange...considering... you just shot me..." He muttered out through clenched teeth. He eyed the man, waiting for his finishing move to strike him down.
But Roy didn't try to finish the job. He inched closer to Ed and tried once more to help him.
"Please, Edward, let me help you! You're bleeding, you'll die if you don't let me help you!" Roy begged him, tears brimming in his onyx eyes.
Edward's confused brain tried to piece things together but it was too fumbled to make sense of anything.
Ed laid his head back onto the cement and sighed. His vision blurred around the edges and he felt more blood seeping away.
He stopped fighting as Roy touched him and felt his wound.
"You've been shot!" Roy stated the obvious.
"Damn it, how many times do I have to tell you to be careful?" Roy asked quietly, taking off his coat and pushing it against the wound.
Edward's head hurt as he watched his killer try to help him. Did Roy regret trying to kill him?
Edward closed his eyes. It didn't matter now anyway, he could feel his senses slipping away like fog on a sunny morning.
He felt himself being lifted and the prickling feeling of pain hit him but it soon faded into mushed darkness along with everything else.
He was left alone with his heart ache and guilt.
He frowned at the annoying beeping sound that pulled him away from feeling sorry for himself.
He opened his eyes and glanced around. He was in he hospital with an I.V hooked up to him and a sleeping Roy next to him.
Edward moved away from Roy. He had the urgency to run from the man. His heart started racing, sending the beeping machine into over drive.
Roy woke up and fixed his dark gaze on the boy who looked at him in fear.
"You're awake. How are you feeling?" Roy asked with a kind smile but it faded as he saw the racing machine.
"What's the matter?" Roy asked, jumping up from his chair. "Do you need me to get the nurse?" He asked quickly.
Edward shook his head wildly and held it in his hands. "I don't get it." He mumbled, looking up at Roy.
"Why did you shoot me only to return and help me?" He fixed his watery gaze on Roy.
Roy scowled, sitting back down on his chair. "Shoot you? I didn't shoot you." He said.
"I was walking when I heard a shot and I ran to see what was going on." He explained.
Edward shook his head. "No, you said you were done with me and that you were just using me to climb the ladder." He spat out venomously.
"I swear to you, I didn't say that nor did I shoot you. I think of you as my son, why would I ever hurt you?" Roy asked with concerned eyes.
"I..I don't know. Just leave!" Edward demanded, pointing at the door. He was so confused and hurt he didn't even want to look at Roy.
Roy nodded and left the room, silently closing the door only to return moments later.
Edward glared up at him. "Didn't I tell you to leave?" He asked.
Roy smirked at him. "I suppose you did but I don't really care. I came to finish the job. I can't have loose ends running around." He said, holding up a needle.
Edward's eyes widened at the sight of the needle. "What are you planning on doing with that?" He asked.
Roy madly grinned. "Why, kill you of course." He said, walking closer to Edward.
The door opened and in walked Roy who stood staring at his doppelganger in the room before aiming his fingers at his twin.
"Who the hell are you?" Roy asked, looking at the stranger holding the needle.
The man turned towards Roy and gave him an identical smirk. "I'm you, of course." He said.
"Or, maybe, I'm him." The man said, turning into Edward.
He shifted evil golden eyes onto Roy. "I can be anyone I want." He cackled.
Roy narrowed his eyes. "Envy." He hissed out. "Should've known it was you doing this." He said.
Envy changed into his normal self and laughed. "Yeah and it was a blast seeing the look of sorrow on Edward's face as his father turned on him!" He chuckled.
"You should've seen the look of absolute horror when I pulled the trigger. It was hilarious!" Envy giggled.
"Well your fun is over!" Roy yelled at him, sending a hissing blast of heat towards Envy, which landed right in his face.
The smell of burning flesh filled the room as Envy's face bubbled off of his bones and sent him howling out of the room.
"I will kill you all!" Envy's raspy voice echoed in the hallway as he fled from Roy. "That's a promise!"
Roy glared at the door before making his way to a horrified looking Edward who stared at the door where Envy had run.
"I'm sorry you had to go through that. It must have been horrible." Roy said, resting a gentle hand on Edward's hand.
Ed frowned and stared at the white sheets. "I'm the one who should be sorry. I doubted you. I should've known it was Envy. You'd never do that to me." He said, looking up into Roy's face.
Roy smiled and gripped the boy's hand warmly. "No, I would never hurt you. I promise to always protect you, no matter what." He said.
