Deceiver: Back to KanoKido family and Kano being a dork. AND HAPPY NEW YEAR :D

~.~.~.~.~

Can you hear me?

~.~.~.~.~

Kido stared down at Kano's stupidly concentrated face as he latched his left ear and hands to her swollen belly. It had been a near ten minutes and he had not moved from his spot at all.

"How much longer?"

"Shh! I'm trying to listen here."

"Shuuya, you can't hear our baby's cry before she is born and she might be asleep."

At that, Kano pouted and looked up at her. "But I really need his opinion."

"She's. A. Girl." Kido karate chopped his head, wondering why he had to start calling their child a boy again. She was about to stand up, only to be pushed back onto the couch. "Shuuya!"

"Do you think we're loud enough to wake him up?" he muttered as if he didn't hear her, his hand roaming over her belly. Ever since they moved in and whenever he got home, Kano had stayed close to Kido like glue and wouldn't keep his hands off her and their baby. He still went all happy when he felt a kick and one time he claimed he heard the baby make noises, which was impossible according to all the books Kido had read up on while she was a few months in pregnancy. Ever since then he had been trying to talk to the baby, like which one of them was wrong, was it a boy or girl, and how many more days would it take until it decided to pop out and say hello? A good fortnight had passed since the due date, yet he was still all happy.

"Do you want her to thrash about in my stomach," she asked in frustration, "kicking me in the ribs and any other vital organs and possibly break the water so then I give a messy birth?"

"Hey, at least he came out to say hi to us, right?"

"Girl!" she slapped his face with both her hands, fuming. Kano stared at her, before returning his attention to the baby sleeping in his wife.

"When are you going to come out and say hi?" he asked and poked at her belly. Kido swiftly swatted it away but he went on. "I've made you a new home with many toys and clothes for you and you still keep us waiting."

Kido laid back on the couch, sighing at the tension being released from her back. "Maybe she's shy?"

The idea seemed to make Kano's eyes sparkle. "Hm? Is our little baby shy?" he cooed at her belly, making Kido have to hold back an amused grin. "Don't be shy. Mummy and daddy will love you lots and lots."

Kido hummed at his words. "Maybe she's scared?"

"There's nothing to be scared of, mummy and daddy will protect you from this world. And tell you it isn't that bad," Kido glanced at him as he went on, a small smile showing up on his face. "It might seem bad at first, but it's actually a good place to live in. I can't tell you all the details right now, but this place isn't that bad when there's someone here loves you and care for you…there are so many of them here that makes it worth living in."

A hand came down to pat his head, making him look up to see Kido smiling at him softly. That smile always warmed Kano's heart, knowing that she trusted him to show off this loving side of hers. Their child would be happy to know it had such a wonderful mum, who loved everyone around her yet stayed strong to not show too much of her soft side. Well, the baby would know about it later. Getting up to sit beside her, his hand still on her belly, Kano leaned in and kissed her on the lips.

"And what was that for?"

"I wanted to kiss you," he snickered slyly before he rested his ear on her belly again. There was a slight wince from her, but Kano thought nothing of it. After a while though, Kido winced again, voicing out her pain before clutching her belly tightly. "Tsubomi, what's wrong?"

"I…I think the baby hit something vital…that's all…"

He didn't like how she sounded, but let it go. However, before he could, a foul smell assaulted his nose, making him pull back in a mere second. Kido seemed to have noticed too, and they both looked down to see the couch getting stained wet between Kido's legs.

"Tsubomi, your water broke!" Kano got up in a panic and screamed. Kido looked on in terror, couldn't believe it was happening now but another contraction hit her.

"Get…ready…"

He didn't need to be said twice, because Kano quickly raced to their room to get the luggage he packed for the occasion, wanting this done quickly so then he could be by Kido's side. The poor woman was starting to cry when it got more painful, worse than a thousand stabs to the gut.

"Ok, all set!" Kano quickly as he helped her get up. She was doubling over in pain and her hand was clutching stomach painfully. Her breathing heaved in and out, wanting this to stop.

"Hurts…" she whispered weakly once they made it out of the house. As much as Kano wanted to just drag her to the car, he out Kido's pain in first. Taking small steps, they made it in, and Kano put the pedal to the metal towards the hospital.

"Only bad thing about moving here is that the hospital had to be about an hour away," Kano grumbled once he was on the main traffic. Kido hadn't said anything, hands on her belly to try and soothe the pain as much as she could. She tried to not think about it much, but by the time they got into the city, it got worst.

Rubbing her hand over it, she whispered, "Don't worry. You'll be okay…"

~.~.~.~.~

Right after that, it was nothing but pain and suffering for Kido. Painkillers did not help to her at all and after many hours into the dead of the night, it was time to give birth. It was too late to inject more painkillers into her body or it might affect the baby. She remembered there was a lot of screaming, with her becoming an ugly mess as she tried to get the baby out of her and curse at everyone present in the Maternity Ward.

She thought she had told him to just die many times that night, with him now being so close to her after so long and didn't know how much she was suffering. Then him being stupid, saying all those stupid encouraging things as she held his hand (held? More like break) and cry. And he still thought it was a boy, for Christ's sake!

Well, that was all she could gather up during her groggy state of mind. She had no idea what happened after she heard the baby crying, just she cried. Right now all she could hear was someone talking beside her and there was the faint smell of medication.

"Tsubomi…"

And now she just noticed her eyes were closed. She tried to open them, even though they were kind of heavy. She heard Kano saying her name, and soon there was the sound of crying.

The baby.

Not bothered to wake up anymore, she found her hands moving on their own and reach out for where the sounds were coming from. She knew they were close when, smiling even when he felt her hand taken into something warm. A strong smell of baby powder assaulted her nose when she heard something was placed next to her. It was loud, but she didn't care once she opened her eyes and finally saw her first child.

"Hey," Kano said when her eyes landed on him. He was smiling just as happily, finally seeing his wife awake with their child. She laughed.

"Hey, yourself," she said before turning to the still crying baby. Hand coming up to touch its soft cheeks, she added, "And hello to you too."

The baby sniffled and reached for the warmth. Kido's motherly-self told her that it was hungry, but…

"Later, you lost a lot of blood after Mika was born. She's feed an hour ago though," Ah, so that's why she forgot everything else. Rolling onto her side, she had one hand on the baby while it stared at her with bright yellow eyes. Kido smiled that she got to see them right after she woke up. But then something struck her mind.

"Mika?" she looked up at Kano in question. Her husband just nodded, grinning slightly, but he was just biting the laughter back. A faint blush appeared on Kido's face, before she tried to knock the stupid grin off him.

"Y-You looked through my notebook, didn't you!?" she screamed in embarrassment, but not too loud. But just that made Kano roaring in laughter as Kido stared at her, mortified. There was a notebook of baby names she planned for their baby, but most of them were just silly. First pages with names she wanted at first, but was too boyish, then the pages with the too girlish ones. And then a list of names of the ones she did not really want. They were flower names, but she remembered she didn't want Mika. "You should have asked me first! Wait until I woke up!"

"Hm, but you should have told me about it. I had some name ideas too, you know? And," he leaned in to give his wife an affectionate bop on the nose. "I changed it around."

She gave him a look. "What did you do?"

"Just changed the kanjis to katakana," he shrugged, as if it was nothing. Before Kido could ask, he grinned. "I thought katakana would be better so then she would have part of our names in hers."

Kido gave it a thought, and trying to get what he meant. Katakana was used for writing their code names in the Mekakushi-Dan, so her name Mika having their names would mean…

"Why must you add the 'mi' from 'Tsubomi' in it?" she rolled her eyes. Kano just laughed and brushed her hair aside.

"Well, I also wanted a flowery name, but then you did say, and write, you didn't really want them. Mika seemed good though."

"You're so cheesy," she said, but hid a smile and the fact she did like the name. Sighing, she smirked at him, "And that means I was right all along."

"Yeah yeah," Kano brushed it off, before turning to the small child. "But you should have told me, Mika," he pouted.

The baby yawned, looking up at her dad for a moment before she fell asleep. Kido laughed, before getting closer to the child.

"She's not bothered to listen to you," she said, and all Kano could do was make a sulky face.
