Kitty Kat

Chapter 21

For the next couple of days, Chase was busy with tests and work, busy enough that she didn't have enough time to call back her mother after Ichigo's very dumb question. She still growled at him every day, and it was almost enough for him to leave her alone, which was nice.

Still, the suspicious looks she got from school and at work were enough to keep her temper high.

On the plus side, Jason was no longer around. Whether or not he actually died wasn't any of her business – if she didn't know, Chase thought, then she couldn't be counted reliable for it. With Jason gone, the bitchees kind of… were withdrawn, honestly. They didn't do much but mourn and wait.

It was weird, but it gave Chase a reprieve on that side.

At home, however…

"I wanna go out!" Ogichi pouted, looking a bit grumpy from being cooped up all damn day. Grimmjow grumbled in agreement from underneath him, fiddling with a game boy. He didn't much care about going outside since he was being entertained, but it was getting tiresome seeing the same walls day in and day out.

"I said no! For a damn good reason too!" Chase crossed her arms, glaring at two of her lovers.

Yes, lovers, because as of yet, no one has told her about being mates and reiatsu being an actual thing. It just kind of… slipped their minds. Also, no one wanted to bring it up because ichigo nearly flipped his shit the first time.

Entertaining, but still annoying to deal with.

"And what about clothes?" Ichigo asked, flipping through the manga that told his life in spades (gods, that was still weird – it really weirded him out that this was all just a damn story to her, which was, frankly, insulting), revealing secrets and adventures that he was sure would be kept secret for decades and decades. "We can't be wearing the same thing every day."

Gin draped himself over Chase, enjoying the way she instantly heated up. "Or we can just be naked." His grin grew as she sputtered, nuzzling into her neck. This was almost too easy, riling her up. It was a little game that he and the other two enjoyed immensely.

Chase had her reservations about it, of course.

"Ugh, fine! We can go to the damn mall."

Some of the cats meowed in protest, wanting to be human and wear clothes for once. Chase yelled at them, glaring at specifically Mayuri as he tried to sidle closer and closer to her. She was really tempted to let one of her neighbors have the nosy little bastard.

But he was a cat, and that was enough to have her heart pull a puss'n'boots move, which severely pissed her off. This is what she got for having a bleeding heart, the stupid fucking organ.

"Alright, look, I'll turn back one of the girls, got it?" Her three mates exchanged looks, which Jushirou caught. He furrowed his brow, glancing at Chase once again. He had sensed her reiatsu about a week ago, and it threw him into a coughing fit. The way she basically panicked over him made him feel bad about keeping this secret, but he also had to be sure she wouldn't be an enemy to the Soul Society.

Pfft, okay, he could admit that was a lie to himself. If he was willing to stand against the Council for Rukia, then he was definitely willing to stand against Yamamoto for Chase, no matter how foul-mouthed and rugged she was.

He tilted his head, smiling softly.

In that aspect, she reminded him of Ichigo. The two were very similar – must be why they don't get along very well, the hotheads.

"It would be much appreciated." Jushirou said, making Chase beam. For some reason, she really liked Jushirou. He had asked once, only getting the face that she reminded him of an uncle of hers before cancer took his life.

That had been sad to learn, but it was valuable information.

Chase looked over everyone, trying to decide who would be the next to turn back. If she was going to turn back a woman, it would have to be someone that she could stand for long periods of time. That took out Orihime, as much as it pained her to say.

Besides that, judging by how much she and Ulquiorra talked together, she would feel bad if she turned back Orihime and then not Ulquiorra. God, she was such a shipper, but she had priorities damn it.

Nemu was also out, simply because of her connection to Mayuri. Chase had this gut feeling that if she turned back Nemu, things would not end well for her, or anybody really.

Rukia was nice, but a little over the top – besides that, she was a bit too controlling for Chase. She also didn't feel like letting the girl know that her drawings were atrocious and her taste in men even more so. That would definitely start a fight that Chase would more than likely lose.

That would be more than her ego would handle, honestly.

Chase contemplated turning back Nell, but she didn't know if she would turn back as a child, or as a woman. As a woman, she was fucking hot and a good Hollow, but as a child, Chase wouldn't be able to handle the hyper-activeness and multiple questions that came with being a child. That was simply a chance that Chase couldn't take. That also took out Harribel, sadly – she already had two Hollows in her home, she didn't need another one.

So that just left one of the shinigami.

Chase hummed, crouching down so she could look at the cats more closely.

Tilting her head, she came to a decision.

"Any chance that I named Sui-Feng Water?" Said cat stepped forward, feeling particularly smug at being picked out. Finally – two feet, two hands! THUMBS! She was so ready to stop being a cat. She didn't know how Yoruichi did it all the damn time.

Chase grinned. "Sorry about the dumb ass name. I'm not that creative."

Sui-Feng shrugged, sitting delicately and meowing so Chase could hurry the fuck up and turn her back into a human.

"Also, sorry about kissin' ya." Chase leant forward and gave her a quick peck between the ears. Gin pulled her away as Sui-Feng puffed up into a human with the amount of smoke that was very irritating to Chase.

Sui-Feng grinned, looking down at herself. "It's good to have limbs again." She glanced up, pinning Chase with her cold eyes. For a moment, Chase feared that she had made the wrong choice: was Sui-Feng going to kill her, take away her lovers?

Oh hell no, she would fight the captain to the death for that shit.

In retrospect, that would be a very quick death – Chase may know how to fight, but she was certain that she was light years away from any of the Soul Reapers or hollows here. They could all confidently kick her ass.

"Thank you." Sui-Feng tilted her head in acknowledgment of Chase, her brow raising as her sense of reiatsu slowly returned to her. This was… this was a new development. And very strange, as well.

Chase relaxed just a bit in Gin's arms. "You're welcome, Sui-Feng." She yawned, standing up completely to stretch her limbs. "Alright, who's ready to go to the mall?"

The walk was filled with many laughs and many warnings. Sui-Feng and Chase were the only ones that were dressed in normal clothing – the rest of them got the group many side-eyes and mothers moving to the other side of the street.

It was both entertaining and embarrassing at the same time for Chase.

She was glad that she chose to turn back Sui-Feng, however. The woman helped her keep the others in line as much as possible. Of course, her three boyfriends (that caused her heart to skip a couple of beats, wow) wouldn't even listen to Sui-Feng, instead choosing to spend their time kissing and flirting with Chase.

Fun times.

The arrival to the mall was a bit of a relief for Chase.

She glanced at her phone for the time, then realized she had received a text from her mother. That was strange, she usually called. Then again, Chase had been a bit busy with school and work, so maybe her mother finally figured out that texting her was a sure fire way to gain her attention more than calling her constantly.

Opening it up, Chase cursed silently. Growling, she pocketed her phone and swore to herself that the group wouldn't stay long at the mall. She looked down at her hand, seeing that Gin had taken it in some kind of comfort. She sent a thankful smile his way – the man was very observant and probably read the text message, though probably didn't know why it made her upset.

"Alright guys, lets make this quick – got shit to do and not enough time to do it in. Sui-Feng, you and I are the only girls; let's get you some clothes first."

Chase thanked her lucky stars that Sui-Feng was not picky about her clothes. Because everyone else sure fucking was.

Gin gave her a reprieve, choosing button downs and skinny jeans. Simple, clean, and the cut of the clothes on him made her mouth water insanely. He winked at her, having caught that particular look thrown his way.

She really needed to get her hormones in control.

Grimmjow was more wild; he chose shirts that had funny phrases or bright colors, and then got a couple of leather jackets that honestly made him look more of a bad boy than he usually did. One of the jackets had a fur collar on it and jesus did he look fucking good in it.

Apparently, her reaction to it had Grimmjow frenching her in the middle of the sales floor. The one lady that came by made a mad dash to go the other way, though when Chase caught her eye, the woman was grinning and gave her a thumbs up.

That was oddly nice of a stranger.

Chase took what she could get.

It was almost comical on how similar Ichigo and Ogichi's tastes were. Where Ogichi got bright warm colors for shirts and dark jeans, Ichigo got more neutral colors since his hair stood out enough. Despite the reasoning, it made Chase laugh her ass off.

She still bought all the clothes and shoes for them though, because this was probably the most fun she has had in a while, especially with all the kisses that she was getting from her boyfriends.

That was definitely nice.

Still, she was trying to usher them out of the doorway, eyes searching the crowd just in case they decided to show up. She didn't need any drama when hanging out with her friends, dammit.

"What's the problem?" Ichigo raised a brow at Chase, wondering why she had seemed jittery this entire time. She was constantly checking over her shoulder, as if she was making sure that there wasn't somebody sneaking up on them or something.

Chase smiled nervously. "Um, well..."

Then she heard it.

The distinctive click-clacking of five hundred dollar heels on tile floor that was headed directly towards her. It didn't help that when she turned, she knew exactly who it was that was headed her way.

A woman in her late seventies dressed in a sharp black pantsuit was smiling at her, though the smile wasn't anywhere near warm and welcoming. Her long white hair was put back into a neat bun, held together with two hair-sticks that matched her dark outfit. Next to her stood a man about her age, peppered white hair slicked back and dressed in a dark blue suit with the jacket undone and top two buttons of his shirt undone. Gold jewelry glittered on them, showing their wealth and power.

Chase wanted to run away, because these people were who her mother warned her about.

She should have stayed home that day.

"Chase Brondale, how lovely to see my granddaughter once again."
