Amelia was miserable. For the past two weeks, she kept herself busy, but no matter how successful she was during the day at keeping Klaus away from her thoughts, she had to sleep sometime. And when she laid her head down on her pillow at night, her mind automatically filled with his face. She cried herself to sleep most nights.

And now it was Cami's wedding day - and he would be there.

It was a beautiful spring day as the bridal party arrived at St. Anne's church. Rebekah ensured that a light breakfast was available for all of them, and had the hottest hairstylists and makeup artists in town there, ready to make magic.

When Rebekah poured Cami a third glass of champagne, Amelia quickly grabbed it from Cami, shaking her head. While Rebekah was an Original vampire, Cami was still only human - a fact Amelia was sure Rebekah either overlooked or simply forgot. "You want to glide down the aisle like an angel, not stumble like a frat boy exiting Rousseau's on a Friday night."

Cami laughed. She sent Rebekah out of the room - her constant hovering was making her nervous. Amelia helped her straighten her veil. Cami's eyes met hers in the mirror.

"Amelia - are you okay?"

"I'm fine, Cami! Don't worry about me, this is your day. I'm fine, really," she smiled brightly. Cami was her closest friend, and it was just like her to be concerned about someone else on her own wedding day. Amelia decided weeks ago that she was not going to worry Cami with any drama on the day of her wedding.

"The church is filling up quite nicely - you must have more friends that I thought," Rebekah said excitedly as she came back into the room.

They prepared Cami for the bridal march, and then Amelia and Carter, one of Marcel's groomsmen, walked down the aisle. At the alter, they separated and went to their respective sides. She determinedly kept her gaze from turning to Klaus, who was sitting in the front row. She could see him, barely, out of the corner of her eye - and dammit, he looked good in a suit! He was staring at her and she prayed that this ceremony would be over with quickly.

Rebekah and Josh came down the aisle next; Rebekah smiled radiantly as if she were the bride, and poor Josh was struggling to keep up. She joined Amelia on their side of the alter.

And then - the bridal march filled the air, and Cami made her entrance. As she walked down the aisle, Amelia briefly glanced at Marcel and couldn't help but smile to see him smiling as all grooms do as they watch their bride approach. Cami smiled joyously as she and her father walked down the aisle. At the alter, her father kissed her cheek, and placed her hand in Marcel's.

Amelia listened half-heartedly to the ceremony. She could feel Klaus' eyes on her - or maybe she was being foolish and imagining it. Finally, the ceremony ended, and Marcel and Cami walked down the aisle, followed by Rebekah and Josh, and Amelia and Carter. As she turned to take Carter's arm, her eyes locked on Klaus' - she quickly turned away. Tears threatened to fall and she practically dragged Carter down the aisle, so she could find a private space and dry her eyes.

It went fine, she told herself. She hadn't lost control in front of him, she hadn't made a scene at her best friend's wedding. Now all she had to do was make it through the reception - and she would be fine. The reception, which was being held in Marcel's childhood home - the Mikaelson compound. She groaned, wondering if there was enough alcohol in the world that would make her forget Klaus.

After the pictures, the bridal party arrived at the reception. Dinner, dancing, toasting followed and the wedding reception became a party - almost everyone was on the dance floor.

Klaus moved easily between guests, introducing himself to those he doesn't know, and making introductions. He finally ran into Caroline, whom he's been avoiding all night.

"Caroline - I, uh,"

Caroline interrupted him. "I'm in love with Elijah." She stood defiantly before him, her head held high, her eyes bright and daring him to say one word against her or his brother.

For a moment, it could go either way. Klaus struggled with an overwhelming sense of relief, followed by a thousand years of competition between him and Elijah. Finally, the realization hits him that all he wants right now is to find Amelia, and for that, he'll have to forgo any sense of pique and unnecessary drama.

He leaned forward and kissed her cheek. "Be happy, sweetheart," he said, then whooshed off.

Elijah noticed Caroline standing alone near the dance floor. As he approached, thinking now was a good time to talk to her, she turned to go out onto the patio. He followed her, and found Caroline by the railing, looking out into the night.

"It was a beautiful wedding, wasn't it?" she asks, sensing him.

"Yes," he said softly, looking at her in the moonlight, and not remembering one detail about the wedding he had only attended hours ago. "Are you alright? I saw you speaking to Niklaus -"

She laughed lightly. "Yes - I think so." She turned to face Elijah, and he saw that her eyes were shining and she was smiling brightly. "I told Klaus that I loved you."

A slow smile broke out on his face and he stepped closer to her. "Did you now?"

"Yes," she whispered, her breath catching in her throat as he came closer. She looked up into his eyes. "I think - you're the one I've always wanted, Elijah. I'm in love with you. I've been so in love with you for the longest time, and I've been so afraid - of so many things," she trailed off.

"But I'm more afraid now that - I'm standing here and I'm finally telling you and I just - please say something." She looked at him, her eyes hopeful and terrified.

He brushed her cheek softly with his hand and smiled down at her. "I've just been waiting for you to realize it." He leaned down and pressed his lips to hers.

Amelia made her way inside her new home. She tossed her bouquet on the table, then bent down to take off her heels. She left them where the fell, and walked to her bedroom. She began to unzip her dress, and remove the corset she had to wear with the dress. Once naked, she sighed in relief and grabbed her robe. She had just finished tying her robe on and was about to walk into the bathroom to run a bath when she heard the doorbell.

She froze - she knew it was him.

"Amelia, I know you're there," he called out. "Please - answer the door."

Fresh tears sprung to her eyes - would this torture never end? Why did he insist on tormenting her? She whimpered.

"Amelia, please - please don't cry," he said.

"I can't do this with you," she whispered.

"I know, sweetheart - please, just open the door, and I will explain," he begged. "And if you never want to see me again, if you turn me away, I will leave you be." Even as he said the words, he knew he was lying - he could never let her be.

She wrapped her robe tightly around her and opened the door, facing him for the first time since Valentine's Day. Klaus took in her tear-stained face and felt sick to his stomach, knowing that he is the cause. He tried to step inside, but the protective barrier on her new home held and she made no move to invite him in.

"Caroline is not my fiancee - she's an old friend, I paid her to pretend to keep those harpies off me. She's just a friend - she's in love with Elijah."

"What?"

"Caroline is simply a friend - it was a stupid idea, one of mine, I'm sorry to say - she's never been my fiancee, I've never had a fiancee."

"But you love her," she whispered, tears falling.

"I did, once, a long time ago and - I think it became more of a habit for me, than true - real love."

"Oh -"

"Somehow, you, Ms. Amelia Greyson, have managed to capture my heart - you have been my friend, you have encouraged me, you have supported me, you have made me laugh - it's you, Amelia. It's you that I feel - that I care for. And I know you care for me as well. Can you ever forgive me for being such a colossal fool?"

She smiled as she stepped back from the doorway, and slowly untied her robe, and let it fall to the floor. "Come in."
