DSD #21: Hospital Beds
Hospitals are cold and notoriously so. Hospitals are filled with sick, morose, anxious people and making the hospital cold does nothing for the nerves. If I'd known I'd be dropping by a hospital, I would have brought a jacket or a sweater, but I didn't know did I? How was I supposed to some hunters from out of town would come and beat me up? All I know is that hospitals are cold and the hospital dress cloths don't help at all.
When I wake up, there was dim lighting and a soreness throughout my body. It was as if somebody had beaten me up and then left me for dead. Oh wait. That did happen.
Hunters. At least Allison's family had the whole "don't attack regular humans" deal, but those out of town hunters? They had no "code." Then, top it off, somehow, they heard that I knew where wolves were and they must have thought I was an easy, defenseless target. Well, they might have gotten a good workout but they'd never get information from me and my slick mouth. My friends are werewolves. My best friend is a werewolf. My … whatever he is is a werewolf. As if I would just give them up!
Instead, I blabbed sarcastic and snarky things like "Wolves? In California?" and "Werewolves? Wait a few months for Halloween and I'll show you some werewolves." Generally, hunters don't like this. I know what I don't like though. I don't like having a split lip and possibly a broken rib. Life was painful enough without new hunters, thank you very much.
I sneezed a quick, quiet sneeze, realizing that one of the reasons I was so cold was that I kicked the blanket off of me. Reaching out to pull it back on, I then realized that somebody was holding one of my hands. I can't believe I hadn't noticed it before. I guess it just felt like an extension of my body.
Of course I knew who it was.
"Hey Derek," I whispered, nudging him gently.
Derek stirred and blinked and squinted in sleepiness. "You're awake!"
I gave him a look. "Yea?"
I thought he was going to retort but instead he flung himself at me (and by flung I mean wrapped his hands around me in a manly and calm fashion), crushing me. "Oh Jesus, you're fine. I thought you weren't ever going to..."
"Crushing. Me. Broken bones. Bruises. This no make better," I grunted as I felt pain in my sides. Derek, of course, let go immediately and held me at arm's length.
"Sorry. Sorry. You okay?"
Rolling my eyes, I smacked his arms away. I sighed, "Derek. I'm fine. I'm more worried about you though. You know with the hunters coming for you and everything."
Derek laughed dryly, "Oh. Don't worry about them."
"What? What'd you do to them?"
"That's not important."
"Then tell me."
"Don't worry about it"
I narrowed my eyes at him, glaring my best glare. "I'll just ask Scott later then."
Derek opened his mouth and snapped it closed before opening it again. "I'm glad you're okay, Stiles. I was so wo– I was very angry at the hunters."
"What was that? You were worried for me?" I smiled coyly, placing my palm on his cheek and stroking my thumb near his eye. Derek notably stiffed up. Laughing, I leaned closer to him and kissed him on the lips. "I'm fine. You're fine. We're all fine."
"The hunters aren't."
"You know I will find out what happened to them. Oh, by the way what's the time?"
"It's about ten at night."
My eyes grew wide. "Ten? I've been out for most of the day."
"Yea..."
"Wait... aren't visiting hours over?" I ask, looking into his eyes swimming with care and something mischievous.
"As if they could keep me from you." Derek rolled his eyes and smiled a crooked and charming smile.
"Good answer," I pouted and leaned in for another kiss.
AN: Guys. You gotta check out this show called "The 10th Kingdom." It's a NBC miniseries of 5 episodes (each about one and a half hours long). Oh my god. It was made in 2000 but I think that the CGI and all that is better than (or at least is at the same quality as that of) Harry Potter's (granted, I haven't seen Harry Potter in a while, but trust me, the 10th kingdom was definitely impressive). And the character Wolf is so unique. It's not cliché either. Yes, you can predict some things (the show has to have a happy ending, after all), but that show is probably the closest a show has ever gotten to fanfiction for me. I was squealing like a fangirl in the last episode. The plot's pretty interesting and well connected.
Oh btw. This chapter was inspired by when I went to the hospital the day before. I had an orientation to volunteer at a hospital. It was about six hours long. Six hours. Yes, six hours in a cold, cold hospital. Four of those hours were spent sitting in front of a PowerPoint presentation. One was just sitting there. One more was a tour. Luckily, those hours counted towards our volunteering hours. Go me. Whatever I'm not complaining. I get to volunteer at a hospital. Go me. =]
Song of the Day: "Wishing on a Star" cover by Miriam Strokley. It was the TV opening/closing of tenth kingdom. Hey it's a good song. At least see the opening of the show. It won an Emmy, you know. It was quite good.
Word of the Day: megalomaniac (power hungry)
That Evil Queen from The 10th Kingdom is a megalomaniac. So is ... I guess any villain, really. =]
