Chapter Twenty One: Epilogue

Three days later...

Rain clouds opened fire upon the earth as it rained heavily. People were outside by a graveyard dressed in black, having their noire umbrella's out and concealing them from nature's assault. It seemed appropiate as it was the funeral of two very important people. Lindy Ramen and Mitsuo Yamaki were being laid to rest at the West Shinjuku memorial grave yard with many people in tow.

First was Lindy's family that included Ian, Ai, Makato, Yuki and Tai. Then it was Yamaki's girlfriend Riley who were given many condolences. Ian was not seen often throughout the ceremony and no one could actually get a moment to talk to him.

The Tamers all attended being wearily about bringing their partners. If what they said was right, then people could be watching them right now. The ceremony and wake were very traditional, including a ceremony with lilies and lavender incense, coincidentally both of the deceased favorite scents.

After the funeral was over, everyone was gathered at a hall nearby for some food and company. However, not much was said and everyone was grouped off between the adults, children, Tamers, digimon and others.

When everyone left, there Ian stood in a black dress shirt and jeans looking at the grave that was made for Lindy. Of course there was no body but Yuki and Tai insisted in something so the twins could come visit. He didn't care that he was getting cold or wet from the rain as he stared for what seemed like forever.

"Ya know toots," he began frowning. "I never felt this horrible since I killed Leomon. I remember feeling so guilty, so angry, so...sad. Until, I met ya. You and ya stupid dumb happy go lucky smile. And that way you never gave up on the twins-my partners...our partners. I guess that's when I started havin' those feelings for ya. I don't know how the twins put up with me even how you did it-I'll never know. I wish I could have told ya sooner how I felt. It was so much later that we actually got to know each other and I found out how passionate you were, how forgiving, how well...hopeful. Even as a Digimon, ya still kicked serious ass. And now I'm stuck here all alone again. Toots, how am I gunna do this? How am I gunna raise Mako and Ai without ya? The twins are never gunna forget you. I hope ya know that. I remember ya saying you were so weak once. I forget why but I gotta make sure I say this or I'll lose my fuckin' mind. You're the strong one, toots. You always were. I...love you." Ian didn't realize that he was crying again. Stupid tears he thought and wiped them away. Sniffing, he got up and turned around to see Takato there.

"Goggle head...what are ya doin' here? Go away-scram." Takato held an umbrella over the hybrid's head.

"You are going to catch a cold doing that. I came to talk."

"I ain't got nothin' to say." Ian replied, casting his green eyes down. Takato frowned.

"You can still save people. You can still make a difference." Ian chuckled darkly.

"Yeah, I'm great at killing people off huh? I killed Leomon, I sent Lindy to her death. Hell, I can somehow think of a way I'm responsible for Yamaki's death if I try hard enough. Forget it Takato, I'm broken...I'm done."

"But you can still save someone. Someone who you owe your life to."

"And who might that be?" Ian shoved his hands in his pockets. Takato's response made Ian open his eyes and realize that he did have someone else to protect-a person who he owned his life to. A certian ex-Tamer.

"Jeri."
