Thanks for all the love from the last chapter, those regulars who reviewed and the new guys (guests) who reviewed/favourite/alerted, its so great to see you all so excited for where this is going.
I can honestly say that some of you are thinking ahead, which is good because I have a couple of later chapters already written and I think you will love them but there is always drama when it comes to Dawsey so just remember that :D
Thanks for those who sent ideas for the costumes, they really helped and some of them were really cute, I love the two half of the heart t-shirts, really smart idea. I did go with two random ones, only because I wrote the party a few different ways and these costumes seemed to fit the best! I love you guys for the help though!
Also I loved the last episode, I think even though Casey has gone out and found himself someone to screw (sorry I am a little upset) I am kinda interested to see what happens. However I think from the interesting episode, to the specific wording of 'romance' not 'relationship' and the tweets I read today from the writers, I think its just going to be a bump in the road. I am very interested to know what is going to happen. I don't see this girl hanging around for more than 2 or 3 episodes though … I hope!
Chapter 21 – Halloween Town
Halloween came up fast, James only getting more and more excited, especially when matt asked for help putting up the decorations, telling him that he was the best person for the job. James had jumped at the chance, grateful that he was given the chance to help and so he did. James and matt spend three days setting up for the Halloween party that they were holding. They had all of 51 coming that night as well as Antonio and his family and about ten kids from James class.
Matt had also asked Kelly to help out, knowing that there would be things that James couldn't help with which allowed gabby and shay time to spend together. "Look at the two of you, Matthew Casey playing house. I think its a adorable!" Shay yelled as she made her way into the kitchen to find matt and James making lunch. She laughed harder when all she got in return was the middle finger over his shoulder. "Oh come on! It's like you are suddenly Mr. Husband..." This comment earned a glance from Matt, something in his eyes putting her off a little but she didn't get a chance to question it because Gabby came bouncing into the room.
"So on Saturday after shift, we will come back here and make sure everything is done but I think we should be pretty set in what needs to go up. James you will be with Antonio in the morning and then everyone is coming over at about 4 so it gives us time to go trick or treating before it gets too dark." Gabby didn't even notice the exchange between shay and matt, too focused on her phone in her hands that she almost ran into shays back. "Oh shit! Shay when you did get here?"
Shay only smirked, throwing another glance towards Matt, who again was facing away from the girls, this look however Gabby did notice, her smile changed, to one of love at watching Matt with her son. "Just turned up, smelt food all the way from home..." She joked as she gave Gabby a hug, moving to the back of the house, she they found the backyard set up with black tarps to cover for rain, spider webs and hanging ghosts, as well as tables and tubs for drinks. Gabby had gone all out for this party, finally feeling at home to do so.
"Wow your boy did a great job!" Shay loved the look of the backyard, really excited for the night that was coming up in a few days. She and gabby had been talking about costumes over the last few weeks, shay stating she needed to find something that would drive matt crazy and have him wanting her all night. Gabby would just laugh, reminding shay that there would be family and kids at the party as well, but shay just argued that no one would notice it they both disappeared for 15 minutes, to which gabby had quipped that 15 had never been long enough, with a wink before moving into the common room where she knew shay would drop it because she knew matt would be in there.
"Yeah he did, didn't he?" Gabby smiled as she moved into the backyard, taking in all the work that matt and Kelly had done during the day, so happy that it had worked out how she had wanted. "Saturday is going to be so much fun." Gabby spoke absentmindedly as she walked around the yard. "He really did s great job...you know he told me he wanted to build a gazebo for me right here." Gabby turned to shay, standing in the far corner of the yard, a large tree spreading its branches over her head.
Shay came to Gabby's side and looked around. Imagining what the gazebo would look like, smiling when she thought about Gabby and Matt sitting around there during the day, loving each other more than they ever had. "He is amazing, I don't know how I got so lucky…" She spoke absentmindedly as she turned back towards Shay, laughing to herself when she noticed that Matt was standing next to Shay watching and listening to her, smirking proudly to himself.
"Well you girls better hurry up, or else you wont get a chance to eat because I'm pretty sure there are three very hungry men in this house that want to eat and will do so without you girls…" He motioned for Gabby to come back to the house, her stomach in fact growing as she did so. Moving closer to him, Gabby just smiled shyly, knowing that he had heard her speaking to Shay, still feeling a little embarrassed when he heard her speaking the way she did.
Lunch went smoothly, a lot of laughter and joking, a lot of childish giggling, mostly from Gabby, but also some serious conversations about life and future and the past, something that had bored James quickly, as he moved off to the lounge room to play games. By the time lunch was over Shay was left sitting at the table with Matt as Gabby had insisted on doing the dishes, Kelly had headed off towards the store to pick up his own costume for the party and James had been too caught up in his games to care what the adults were doing.
Bringing her bottle of beer to her lips, Shay looked over at Matt who was just watching Gabby through the opening towards the kitchen, his lips curled into a soft smile as she became lost in his thoughts. Shay took this chance to ask him the question that had been burning her brain since she had seen him standing in the kitchen earlier that day. "So…earlier today you gave me a weird look when I called you Mr. Husband…what was that about?"
Matt's attention was quickly turned towards Shay and her question, hoping that she hadn't really seen the look he gave her, but also knowing that Shay was a very perceptive person. He sighed and dropped his head slightly, "Yeah I know, I'm sorry about that, it just got me thinking when you said it. Well I mean, it's not the first time I have thought about it but hearing you say it out loud kinda hit me. Ya know?" He looked over at Shay, hoping she would understand what he was trying to say.
Thankfully she did. "Have you been thinking of asking Gabby to marry you?" Her next question was full of shock. Matt and Gabby had only been together for almost 6 months, she couldn't believe he had already thought about it, but the reaction she got was different to that of what she was expecting.
"No, well not yet of course. I mean this is still very new to the both of us but god I love her and what I can tell you right now is that if I am going to spend the rest of my life with someone, it'll be her. But we have a long way to go before we get to that stage. However I have been thinking of asking her and James to move in with me. It's just hard, because this is her home, I know how much she loves it here, I don't think I could ask her to leave it." Matt sighed, rubbing his face roughly; this was clearly something he had been debating for a little while.
Shay understood, their relationship was different to anything she had seen before, if they did decide to move in together already, she wouldn't be shocked or surprised, it was natural for them to be at that stage already but she understood that this was Gabby and James' home and how hard it would be to ask her to move in together with the thought of them moving out of their home. It wasn't that Matt didn't spend all his time at the house anyway, but it would be different. They did both however still enjoy the quiet time they got to themselves, in their own homes, alone but Shay also knew they would gladly give that up if it meant they would be together. It really was a difficult situation.
Suddenly Matt sighed again, "I think I'm gonna wait until after Christmas, when things settle down again and after Gabby's birthday, which is coming up in the next few weeks. I know she has been stressed with work and everything. So yeah, I'll ask her in the New Year, when things have settled down." It was as if Matt was talking to himself, working through the issue without really needing a reply from someone else.
Although, in typically Shay fashion, she answered anyway, "You know what, if you asked her I know she would say yes and you would work out what is best for you both and James, but you're right, I think waiting until after all the holidays and the stress of Christmas might be a nice idea." Matt smiled up at Shay, thankful that his girlfriend's best friend had just agreed with him and that she seemed happy with the idea and that she also believed that Gabby would say yes.
Now they both just hoped that everything went as smoothly as they were all hoping.
"Oh! Well would you look at that!" Gabby smiled when she heard Herman's voice calling out from the garage on Halloween morning. She knew that must have meant that James and Antonio had finally arrived, James dying to show the firehouse his costume for the night. She moved with shay to the garage from the common room, just in time to see James making his way up the drive way, both squad and truck stopping what they were doing to look at him.
He was dressed in dark navy pants, his black boots and the small CFD shirt that Matt had gotten him not too long ago. The red suspenders holding his pants up were just the right size and the fireman jacket he was wearing finished off the costume. He did also have a small kids helmet that Gabby had borrowed during the week, knowing that the on that came with the costume wasn't even close enough to what he wanted. James really did look like a Chicago fire fighter, something that he was ecstatic about.
Matt's head shop up suddenly at Herman's voice, his smile widening when he saw James heading his way. "Wow! I think you're gonna give my job a run for it's money dressed like that!" Matt came over to James side, crouching down to inspect the costume, laughing happily when he took him all in.
"Do you really like it? I wanted to be you for Halloween!" James looked hopefully towards Matt, needing to know that he approved and the smile that Matt gave him was all he needed. "See mum! Told you he would like it! I'm Matt!" He looked triumphantly towards his mother who just smiled, knowing that Matt would have been thrilled to see him dressed up the way he was. Matt glanced back at Gabby who hadn't stopped smiling since James had walked in.
That was when Matt got an idea. He stood quickly, moving towards the equipment room, being gone for a few minutes before he returned. As she made his way back into the garage, he stopped by Gabby, placing a very chaste but passionate kiss to her lips, something he had been wanted to do all morning but hadn't had the chance and so as the rest of the house whistled and called out, Matt pulled away, sending a wink to Gabby's direction before he moved back towards James, turning him around so the back of his jacket was facing him. "Now if you are going to be a lieutenant," Matt pulled the jacket from James back, resting it against his knee.
As he did so, he made sure that only he and James could see what he was doing, especially Gabby, who was trying to see what was happening over he shoulder but couldn't, James watched excitedly as Matt pulled out a long black name tag from his pocket, instantly James recognised it as the 'Lieutenant Casey' name tag that sat on the back of Matt's jacket. James watched as he taped to the back of his jacket, holding up the costume that now read 'Lieutenant Casey'.
James all but snatched the jacket back from Matt, bouncing excitedly on his feet. Matt stood happily, moving back towards Gabby where he wrapped his arm around her shoulder before kissing her temple. They both watched as James pulled the jacket on, turning around so everyone could see the nametag on the back of his jacket. Everyone clapped, calling out that he was the new Casey, or that Casey would have to watch out for his job now that James was around. But matt didn't mind, he just leaned down in Gabby's ear an whispered, "I couldn't find one that just said lieutenant..."
But Gabby just smiled, shaking her head, "It's fine. I love it, he loves it and I love you..." And with another quick kiss they both turned towards the scene in front of them, James standing on the side of the truck cabin, calling out orders much like Matt would do at a scene. "Now I'm looking forward to seeing what you turn up in tonight..." She winked at him seductively before she moved away reaching out for James who went into his mothers arms willingly, hugging her tightly.
As Antonio, James and Matt headed into the common room, getting settled for what was left of their shift, which ended up only being half an hour, Shay moved over to Gabby and smiled as she watched Matt and James walk side by side, almost identical if it wasn't for the hair and the height. "You know…the Casey last name looks good on the kid…"
Shay's voice pulled Gabby from her thoughts, but Gabby tried to ignore what she had said, not wanting to admit that it had been something that had crossed her mind, the idea of getting married to Matt had entered her mind and the loved the idea, but was still not going to admit it to Shay. But when Shay threw Gabby that typical Shay look, she sighed, "I think that having his last name might be a stretch at the moment, its only been like six months. I think we should, I don't know, maybe live together first…" Gabby rolled her eyes at Shay, trying to tell her that marriage was a big leap from where they were at the moment.
Shay smiled, an idea coming to her suddenly, "Why don't you ask him to move in with you? I mean, it's not like you don't have the room at home or anything like that…" She watched as the cogs turned in Gabby's brain clicked over for a few seconds, but when she sighed.
"It's not that it wouldn't be fantastic to be living together, but it's his home, I don't think I can ask him to move out of a place he has put so much work into. At least not yet, maybe we have his conversation after Christmas." Gabby shook her head, moving to the common room, to find the boys having a laugh, Boden having joined them, very impressed with James costume. Noticing the time, Gabby headed towards the locker room, intent on getting the stuff so they could leave as soon as possible, knowing they would be seeing everyone in a few hours.
Matt was running late, that was for sure. By the time he had gotten home from helping Gabby with the finishing touches for the party, showered and then laid on the couch for what he intended on only being for about thirty minutes, he had fallen asleep for about two hours, which meant he was already thirty minutes later than what he told Gabby he would be back and he still hadn't gotten changed into his costume. And so after sending Gabby a very apologetic text message he began rushing around to get dressed, heading into his bedroom to begin the very short process.
He was glad he had chosen the costume that he did, 1) it was easy to put on and 2) he really hoped that it would be something that Gabby wouldn't be able to say no to, although he knew that it might be a long shot but she had really been teasing him over the last 24 hours and it was killing him. He just wanted to be close to her, wanted to show her how much he loved her. Shaking his head of those thoughts, especially as he remembered her comment about wanting to see him in costume and the wink that she sent in his direction before sauntering away from him.
Pulling on the camouflage army pants and the black combat boots he had found in the shops the week before. He then looked in the mirror, taking in his appearance; he had yet to pull on the dark green tank or his hat and or even the accessories that went with the costume. He took in his image, reaching for the dark, mud costume make up, he ran his hands over his arms, bare chest and face, succeeding in dirtying himself up enough before pulling on the tank, and then the camouflage hat, dog tags and fake ammo belt.
Glancing at the time, Matt swore, he really was running late and so he threw his phone, wallet and keys into his back pocket, reaching for his over night bag that always sat by the door, ready for any day that he would be staying at Gabby's for the night. Throwing it into the passenger side of his car, finding that it was now already 6.30pm, Matt headed towards Gabby's suddenly finding himself to see what Gabby was dressed in, his mind driving him crazy with all the ideas, those appropriate for a party with children in attendance and those that would only be appropriate in the bedroom.
Pulling up at the house, Matt smiled proudly at his work, he, James and Kelly had done a lot of work over the last week to set up for the party, he could never have done it without their help and he couldn't forget at how excited Gabby was to see how the house had come up. Moving towards the back of the house, Matt took in the costumes, the kids running around as Disney characters, super heroes, policemen and the one fire fighter he easily picked out as James. The adults he found were dressed as more traditional characters, witches and monsters. He spotted 51, Kelly and Shay dressed as Hugh Hefner and a Playboy Bunny, Herman a pirate and Cindy as a doctor. He didn't even bother looking for the rest of the firehouse; he was desperate to find Gabby.
But as he moved through the group of people who seemed to be having a blast he was spotted by James, who ran straight over to him, "Matt! I love your costume!" James reached for Matt's hand and pulled him towards the house, knowing that his mother was there at the kitchen sink. He all but pushed Matt into the kitchen, knowing that his mother was in the house, making sure that food was being prepared for everyone to eat.
Standing in the doorway to the kitchen matt was shocked when he saw Gabby. There she was, her back to him in her purple witch costume, her black pointy hat tipped to the side and her hair curled down her back. She knew kneeling in front of the stove; he could see the back of the dress, the way that it laced up at the back, typical of a corset design. His mouth dried at the thought of her wearing a corset but as she stood slowly, making sure not to drop the plate she was holding, his whole body started to react to her. From the black boots to the spider web stockings that became hidden by the mid calf length of the back of the dress. Swallowing deeply he found his voice, "Well now, I think you may have just gotten sexier..."
At his voice, Gabby jumped, very much thankful that she had put down the hot platter before he had spoke. "Jesus Christ Matt, you scared the crap out of me!" Gabby brought her hand to her chest as she tried to catch her breath, honestly not expecting matt to be there behind her, but he was and she was glad that he was finally there with her. Leaning with her back against the counter, she allowed Matt to take in the full view of what she was wearing. She watched as he licked his lips as his eyes dragged over her slowly.
He started at legs, taking in the fact that the front of the dress was mid thigh length, puffing out slightly thanks to the purple petticoat she wore underneath, the spider web design that covered the top of the purple skirt. As his eyes moved further up, he took in the purple and black corset that suited her body type snuggly. Once his eyes hit her face, he noticed that her lips were covered in purple lipstick, and her eyes were dark and smoky, turning her usually soft features into that of someone who looked fierce and troublesome. "You see something you like Mr. Casey?"
But Matt couldn't speak, he didn't trust his voice as he found her incredibly sexy and he could already feel his pants tightening, and the moment that she began to slowly move towards him, her bottom lip sitting between her teeth an a smile tugging at her lips he was a goner. As one foot stepped in front of the other, slowly, seductively Gabby was able to take all of Matt in, his bare arms that showed off his muscles an the tight tank that showed off his abs, the camouflage pants sitting nicely on his hips. As she moved closer to him he could only swallow deeper, the only words coming to his mouth were those that she had just spoken, "See something you like Ms. Dawson?"
But this time, Gabby was standing right in front of him, her hands resting against his chest seductively as she looked up at him, her face inches from his, her lips curled into a sexy smile. "Oh I definitely see something I like Mr. Casey..." Gabby's lips touched his gently, deepening suddenly when her tongue ran over his lips, begging for entrance she had been thinking about all day, dying to see what his costume was going to be. Moaning into his lips, Gabby pulled away, suddenly feeling herself becoming extremely turned on by Matt, her body heating up to the point of not being able to control herself. Taking a step away from him, she looked down, frowning for a moment, "No bag?"
He had always brought his bag in with him when he was staying so when she didn't see him bring it in, she had always been a little disappointed, although she understood when he couldn't stay, it wasn't as though they had to spend every second of every day together but tonight she really wanted him to stay, really wanted to be able to spend the night together. She watched as he smiled, finding her disappointment cute, "Don't worry it's in the truck, I just didn't bring it in with. I'll grab it later tonight..." He ran his hand gently over her face, trying not to ruin her make up, but not being able to not touch her, their lips touching again when she registered his words, happy to be having him close.
"I can't wait for tonight baby, really, this is going to be a great night!" She suddenly became excited, pulling matt from the kitchen back outside where everyone else was, the night starting out to be the best fun they had had in a very long time.
Matt stood in Gabby's bedroom, his back to the door as he placed his bag gently on the ground. It was well after 3am, the families with kids had gone home long ago, and James had passed out the instant his head had touched the pillow on his bed.
Matt was lost in thought as he sighed, tonight had been so much fun, he hadn't laughed so much in his life. "So we are finally alone and it's quiet in this house..." Matt turned suddenly to find Gabby closing the door to the bedroom slowly, her eyes dragging up Matt's body as she did so, he could tell the look in her eyes, it had been the same look he had been giving her all night.
"Are we now?" He reached out for her, resting his hands against her hips, his lips attaching to her instantly and within seconds, their hands were reaching for zips and belts and every matter of clothing they could reach, making sure that nothing was left on the other person as they fell onto the bed together, feeling each other, wanting more of each other as seconds passed. Finally giving into the feelings they had been feeling all night.
Moans and gasps filled the room, groans an names echoed in the darkness as they fell over the edge together, their bodies covered in sweat as they lay tangled together in the night. "I love you so much baby... I don't think I have ever been as happy as I have been with you gabby..." Matt rolled over and pulled Gabby into his arms, their noses touching an their arms locked around the other.
Gabby rested her head against his chest, heading the thump of his heart as it slowed down from their activities and as her eyes began to close, her voice was the last thing that was heard in the house as they both fell asleep, "I love you too Matt. Forever..."
Thoughts? I hope you guys liked it :D.
If anyone is interested, this is the idea behind Matt and Gabby's costumes i have added them to my profile, i tried to add them to the end of the chapter but it wouldn't work. For those who check it out let me know what you think ;)
