Jeff just stands there, gawking at a teary Nick, feeling numb. He blinks a few times in shock, rubs his eyes (resisting the temptation to pinch himself) and tries to change reality. But everything's still the same. Nick is still there in front of him, tears rolling down his cheeks, eyes bloodshot. Jeff tries to string a sentence together, but it just turns into a sob.
Nick steps forward, outstretching his hand, but stops himself. He lowers it and trns his gaze to the floor. Jeff stares at him, stumbling backwards slightly.
"W-w-why?" He stutters, shaking his head in defeat.
"Dad got a promotion. We're off to New York." He doesn't smile, he wasn't proud of his dad. To be honest, Nick was enraged.
"But, you...you'll be back, right?" Jeff's pupils widen, his face pleading like a puppy dog. Nick turns away, unable to see what he'd created. He clears his throat, biting back his tears.
"Jeff, don't try to hold on to what's already gone, you know what the answer is"
"But it's not fair!" Jeff explodes with a loud sob, banging his fist against the wall. "There... there has to be another way." Numb, Jeff slips into a chair.
"Jeff, you know there isn-"
"But what's wrong with dreaming?" With a small voice, Jeff just looks at his hands placed on the table. Nick turns around, expression softened. His hand finds Jeff's back and touches it sweetly.
"Nothing, and that's why I love you" He admits, more to himself than Jeff.
"You love me?" Jeff says, turning his head round to face Nick.
"More than the world."
"Nick Warbler, you've been the heart and soul of this club, keeping us going, and we wanted to say thank you." Blaine says with a grin. He subtly nods and the group begin their backing.
Blaine: Would you know my name
If I saw you in heaven?
Thad: Would it be the same
If I saw you in heaven?
Jeff: I must be strong
And carry on,
'Cause I know I don't belong
Here in heaven.
Wes: Would you hold my hand
If I saw you in heaven?
David: Would you help me stand
If I saw you in heaven?
Sebastian: I'll find my way
Through night and day,
'Cause I know I just can't stay
Here in heaven.
Sebastian and Blaine: Time can bring you down,
Thad, David and Wes: Time can bend your knees.
Jeff: Time can break your heart,
Have you begging please,
Sebastian: begging please.
Blaine: Beyond the door,
There's peace I'm sure,
And I know there'll be no more
Tears in heaven.
Jeff: Would you know my name
If I saw you in heaven?
Would it be the same
If I saw you in heaven?
Thad: I must be strong
Wes and David: And carry on,
All: 'Cause I know I don't belong
Here in heaven.
A singing tear rolls down Seb's cheek as the song finishes.
"Thank you" Nick says, choked up. He tries to regain his composure. "Goodbye's hurt too much, so I'm just gonna sing you guys something. Then, I have to go. Because it hurts too much to be honest with you guys so... I- Just listen, and then you'll know how much you mean to me."
It's been years
Since we carved our names
On a clocktower door
Before everything changed
We were big eyed boys
With the salt on our skin
And we'd throw our kites to the wind
And they'd fly on and on and on and on
On and on and on and on
On and on and on and on
It's been years
Since we whispered soft
With the torch light on
And the big light off
We were tired boys
With the soap on our skin
And we'd fall asleep to the wind
And we'd dream on and on and on and on
On and on and on and on
On and on and on and on
Cos we're circles
We're circles you see
We go round round the sun
In and out like the sea
I'll circle round you
You will circle round me
And in years
When the torch light thins
And the clock tower's gone
And the big light dims
We'll no longer be boys
We'll have lines on our skin
And they'll throw our dust to the wind
Nick just turns and leaves, and the Warblers watch him go, knowing that nothing they say will make a difference, because it's all over now.
