It has been about a week since I fell asleep in Sasuke's lap whilst he spoke of nonsense and I haven't seen him for about three days now. He stopped showing up to his appointments and every time I go to his apartment building, they always tell me he is out. This morning I was beginning to get a sickening feeling in my gut, so I went to talk to Gaara about Sasuke's disappearance.
He knew nothing about it. "Sakura, I'm sure he is in the village somewhere. He's not allowed on any missions until you clear his examination, and he hasn't requested to leave Suna."
I sighed, "That would mean that he is avoiding me. But I haven't done anything to cause him to." I sat back in my seat and drank some of the sake that was presented to me as I entered the room; I guess he was able to tell how distressed I was feeling.
"I'm still sure that you have nothing to worry about. But if it will make you feel better, I'll tell him you have been searching for him next time I see him."
I stood up and nodded my head, seeing as he was beginning to mess with the papers on his desk, I let myself out of his office. The conversation was clearly over.
Gaara POV
"You can come out now, she is gone."
I continued messing with my files as Sasuke escaped the shadows and floated to the desk that was previously taken by Sakura.
"How can you be so sure that she isn't by the door? She is adept to holding in her chakra."
I sighed, I really had a lot of work to go through but with all these disruptions I just didn't see it happening. "I always have my third eye over my office so that I can see anyone that may be approaching."
He nodded his appraisal, as if his approval was needed. "So, now you have to tell me why you are avoiding her, because after this conversation I have to tell her that I saw you."
Sasuke rolled his eyes and slouched back in the chair. "I'm dying."
I froze and after a moment looked up from the heaping stack of papers that have been bothering me all morning. "That has not been in any of her reports. How can you be so sure?"
"It's a slow death, similar to the sickness my brother had. I'm pretty sure anyway."
"Then you should have plenty of time to be with Sakura if you so choose. You did ask me to summon her here for you."
He sat up straighter but was still slightly slouched. "I do, that is correct. But I do not see any point in it unless it will make her happy. And right now, after all this time, she no longer loves me…She loves Kiba."
Now I was really interested, I could never figure out this Uchiha, not when we were genin on the battle field, not when we fought while Orochimaru used us against Konoha, and not when he asked me to become a part of my village. I still cannot figure out this problem that is Sasuke Uchiha- It unnerves me. "Kiba as you know is dead."
"After tonight he won't be."
"What the hell are you talking about?"
Now he was fully straight in his chair, he knew that he had my full attention and that now there were questions that needed to be answered. "I am using the forbidden reanimation jutsu."
"You know that's not the same. His body won't last and he will not be his old self."
"I'm also using Chiyo's jutsu. The one that she used on you…" I felt my eyes widen, I never expected anyone to learn that jutsu. Especially one that has never seen it done. For the second time in my life I had nothing to say-the first being when I met Naruto. "I can bring Kiba back using the reanimation jutsu to reform his body, then using Lady Chiyo's jutsu to well, pretty much put his soul back in if you want to look at it that way."
"Why?"
"Why? Because I wasted my life, I could have been with Sakura from the start and made her happy. Now I am dying and my life span is shorter than it would be. On of that, she doesn't love me anymore. Kiba is dead, why not give my life to bring him back for her? It's the one thing I can do that would make her truly happy."
I glanced at his Suna band, "Looks like I'm about to lose the first and only Sharingon user."
He gave a brief nod, "Looks like it."
I opened the bottle of sake I had pulled out for Sakura and poured some out for the two of us. "I approve of this, but only because I can understand your reasoning and logic behind it. I also believe that it may work. However, you should see Sakura before you do this tonight."
"Is that an order, Kazekage?"
"No."
"Then I refuse. If I see Sakura, I won't be able to do it. I'm no nice guy, I'm truly selfish. I cannot see Sakura, and I need you to keep her away from the training grounds tonight, at least until seven. I should be done by then."
I nodded, he left. I looked to the clock on my desk, it was already two. Looks like I have five hours of babysitting to do.
Sakura POV
I was walking, but I didn't know where to. But what I did know was that it was around two thirty and I ended up in front of the hospital. I laughed at the annoying humor, had Sasuke still been showing up, his appointment would be in fifteen minutes. I knew he wouldn't show, so instead of entering my usual 'happy place', I decided to sit on the bench outside. I couldn't have been there more than five minutes before I saw sand begin to swirl on the ground in front of me. I watched in curiosity as Gaara begin to manifest himself-What could he want?
"Sakura, to take your mind off of things, you and I will get dinner tonight. I will be at your room by four, dress nicely as it is not often that the villagers see me out and about."
I sighed in annoyance, "Gaara, I know that in the past I told you to reach out and date and stuff, but I did not mean with myself and even if I did, I am nowhere in the mood."
"I see, well good thing this is not a real date but only practice. Who better to practice with then the one that told me to do it. So, as I said, be ready by four and dress nicely." By the time he finished his sentence he was already gone, the sand clone-that's what I'm calling it anyway- was back to being dust on the ground.
Another look at my watched told me that I had little over an hour to be ready. Great.
It was three thirty and I was ready with time to spare. I had my long hair down and wore a black and emerald dress that Temari had talked me into buying during one of our outings. My black four inch heals looked great with it. Since I still had time to kill I sat down on my temporary bed and grabbed the picture frame I always keep on my nightstand. Once side had my ninja family-Team Kakashi plus Yamato and Sai after the war- the other side had Kiba and I- it was from the night that I formally met his mother.
I must have gotten caught up in my reminiscing, because next thing I knew Gaara was in front of me. "You didn't answer the door."
I looked to the ground sheepishly, "Sorry, I was day dreaming." I looked up and saw him fiddling with sand in one of his hands, the other seemed to be controlling the movement of it. I watched as it took the shape of a flower, then it began to change colors until it became an actual flower. Gaara held it out to me and I carefully grabbed it, I was nervous that it would crumble back to sand. It never did. "That's amazing."
"I hoped you would like it. Are you ready to go?" I looked up at Gaara and smiled before nodding my head. Maybe helping him practice dating wouldn't be so bad., but my mission was a success. Naruto has everything."owght. "touched, a toxin filtered the room; I'ould help to know some oasuasasaaa
