First, I want to apologize for taking so long to update this story (and my other stories). RL seriously got in the way these past few months and I just got back from New York after only being to Florida back in January... yeah I know, I can't believe it either, but when your two top fave kpop groups decide they are coming to the USA within 4 months of each other, you do what you gotta do.
The Got7 fanmeet was AMAZING btw, hi touch was something else, although we won't be buying Pit (GA) tickets for quite awhile, that we could've done without! Thank god our hotel was close by the venue though!
Seriously though, if ya'll are not into kpop, please go watch Artifical Love (live, of course) by Exo, it'll change your mind pretty quickly, I'm not going to spoil it though lol so go watch it!
LOL SORRY, ANYWAYS (seriously though go search Exo or Got7 up on youtube!) as I said, I just got back from an amazing trip to New York cause I saw Exo again and I got to see my best friend again. Living in another country is so hard but being reunited in the best feeling ever. I'm not even going to start to go into what happened on Monday, that shit was crazyyyy. Imagine sitting in Times Square and 3 of the members of the group you are seeing in concert the following night walks casually behind you...yeah things get pretty crazy, pretty fast lol.
So, this chapter, it's more of a continuation of the last chapter and a filler more than anything else. I have some big plans for the next few chapters which I'm excited to get writing because Got7 said no concerts this year, so we're not expecting them to return until August/September but because one of the members hinted Kcon, everyone is expecting them to go to LA for that which is frustrating because both me and my friend can't go.
Enough about me and my Kpop obsessed life, I know you all are excited to this chapter and hopefully, you'll still stick around until the end. It's closer than you think!
If you read all of my crazy rant, bless your souls.
Enjoy :)
Calling his number, he waited as the rings went in but no one answered. "Damn it," he whispered, as he tried again but got the same results. He debated following him and quickly decided against it, instead, he would use the information he collected against James.
Suddenly his phone lit up, signaling a text message from Riley's number. He motioned for Bella to read it so he could keep driving and when he heard the words, it made the blood drain from his body.
James is on his way, I couldn't answer you calls because I was on the phone with him. He is meeting me half way instead of at the warehouse, that was code for the road I turned off on. I'm sorry I got you into this mess but you won't be hearing from me again. I wish you all the best, and please, if you could, contact my fiancée and let her know how much I love her and my son? James is going to kill me, I just know it. My fiancée's name is Bree Tanner. – R
"Edward, we have to turn around and help him!" Bella pleaded as she finished reading the text. She turned in her seat to confirm that Riley was indeed not behind them. Edward ignored her and kept driving, he knew that going back would be a death trap for the them both. "Edward? Think of your daughter."
"I am doing exactly that. Going back there and falling into James' trap will be dangerous for us both. More so for you than me. Besides, Abby is sick and I'm late picking her up." Edward shook his head and focused on the road, trying to convince himself he was doing the right thing.
"Riley lied to James for us, he let us get away free and now he's going to die at our hands! Don't you get that?"
"Watch your tone Isabella." He warned as his grip tightened on the wheel. Glancing at his speed, he slowed down and took the next ramp.
After a long sigh, he finally spoke, "Call my mother."
Bella was confused but did as she was told and found her number easily. The rings went in and it was answered on the third one.
"Hello?"
"Dad?" he asked confused, glancing at the phone which Bella was holding up for him to see what number she called.
"Yes Edward? Is there a problem?"
"Yeah, why are you answering mom's phone? I need to speak to her."
"Anything you need to say to your mother can be said to me."
"Dad, let me speak to mom." He exhaled and loosened his grip on the steering wheel.
"Esme is busy. I can pass along the message."
"Then tell her she needs to contact the babysitter to go get Abigail from preschool, her teacher called, she's sick."
"What are you talking about Edward? The preschool called here over two hours ago, when they couldn't get a hold of you and told us the exact same information. Abigail is just finishing up a cool bath and then Esme is putting her to bed. She has a high fever and has been vomiting since we went to get her."
"They couldn't have called over two hours ago, they only called me…Dad what number did they call from?"
There was rustling before Carlisle spoke again and read out the number. Edward nodded to Bella when she pointed to the 'recent calls' and when he read the number, he once again felt the blood drain from his entire body.
"Dad…I think James tried to trap me by pretending to kidnap my daughter."
"James? Why would you think that? Edward, where are you?"
"It's a long story," Edward glanced at the clock on the screen, he only drove about ten minutes from where Riley had turned off, he had to make it, "Is Riley one of your mechanics?"
"Riley Biers? Yeah, young kid, James told me he got into some trouble and needed some extra money. The kid knows his stuff so I hired him. Why do you ask?"
"I think the trouble he got into was with James, Riley is working for James and James is using you as a cover up for his employment and to keep him close."
"Are you sure? That's two of my men you are accusing right now Edward, and you know I don't fully trust you after what you did all those years ago," Carlisle sighed loudly.
"Well trust me on this one; Riley has a GPS tracker on his car that was on mine, I need you to track that and then track James' and tell me the distance between them."
"How sure are you about James' scheme?"
"About eighty-five percent. The real question is how sure am I that James is a snake and has been using you in the hopes of taking over your business one day? About ninety-nine percent, you do that math."
"Riley is parked about half a mile off the road which is coming up on your left in about two miles, James is ten miles behind you."
"How do you know where I am?" Edward asked confused, praying Riley had at least removed the GPS tracker.
"Did you honestly think that I wouldn't place a GPS tracker on your car myself when you went to get Isabella?"
Edward looked towards Bella who was staring out the window but still holding the phone in her now shaky hand.
"Okay, thanks dad. Would you be able to call James and demand him back to HQ? That way I can buy Riley a little bit of time. He's an innocent in all of this and he has a child and fiancée. Think about your granddaughter, I'm sure his kid is around the same age as her. If you don't want to do this for me, then do it for Abby." Edward hated using his daughter as bait but he knew his father would take it every time.
Carlisle sighed loudly, "It seems I raised you right after all. I'll do it, but this time I'm doing it for my son." Edward wasn't sure of his exact meaning behind the words but he could care less at this moment, he had a newly found friend to save.
"I have to go, I have to save Riley. Keep my little girl safe, I'm trusting you with her life right now."
"I will Edward, no one will get her if I have anything to say about it."
They quickly ended the call as Edward turned off the road and towards where he hoped Riley still was. He slowed down to a crawl as to not startle him when he seen Riley pacing the length of his car while on his phone once again.
Edward spotted another clearing to his left and quickly turned in, cringing as the harsh branches scraped up against his newly shined car. Happy with the distance from the dirt road, he quickly got out of the car and motioned for Bella to do the same. Walking around the back of the car he could tell she was very nervous but this had to be done to get James caught and maybe, for his father to see who James really is.
"Edward, I take back what I said about saving him, let's just get in the car and leave."
"My father will keep us safe Bella, trust me." He spoke softly as he looked directly into her fearful eyes.
"You, I trust, your father, not so much." Edward shrugged and considered it a compromise for now.
"Let's go, stay behind me." Bella nodded and accepted Edward's hand. Her thoughts were filled with a rollercoaster of emotions, and her head was starting to spin. Everything that had happened since she ran away this morning was confusing her. Why is she working with Edward when she is suppose to be running far away from him? She knew the answer; it was the fear of the unknown.
Riley's pacing came to an abrupt halt when he heard footsteps behind him. Turning around, he braced himself to come face to face with James but instead he seen non-other that Edward and Isabella.
"Wh-what are you doing here? Leave now before James gets here." He hissed quietly, checking over their shoulders for confirmation.
"James is about to be held up, we are buying you time to go back to your fiancée and child and disappear."
Riley couldn't believe what he was hearing, but when his phone made a noise, he quickly shook his head in a panic, "Looks like your plan didn't work, James is less than two minutes away."
"That's why I have a plan B; tie us up."
Both Bella and Riley looked at Edward and spoke at the same time, "What?"
"No, not happening, leave now, or at least hide. We're all running out of time just standing around." Riley shook his head as nervously looked at his cell phone for the fifth time in the past thirty seconds.
"Trust me. Come on, do it quickly before James gets here." Edward quickly explained the plan to Riley while walking towards the car behind him. Edward would be waiting in the trunk for James with ties on his hands, but loose enough to get out of when Riley gave him the signal. Bella would be in the back-seat lid down and it would be Riley's job to keep the focus off her until Edward could successfully take James down, or at least threaten him and his life while his father took care of the rest.
Riley shook his head but Edward had already begun to tie the rope around his own wrists.
"There has to be another way, this is going to go horribly wrong, I just know it!" Riley walked towards Bella who took a staggering step backwards, not ready for the sudden movement.
"I spoke to my father; this plan is going to work. Now hurry, help me with these ropes." Edward demanded as he situated himself in the trunk. Giving one last look to Bella, he nodded towards her and watched her walk around the car. On the outside, he held a calm façade, but on the inside, he was praying that his plan will be full proof.
Riley gave one last tug on the ropes which were now holding Edward's arms behind his back and then, after closing the trunk, he took a few steps towards the back seat to check on Bella. He was having an internal debate as to whether he should go through with this ridiculous plan when he heard a vehicle pull off the road and make its way towards him, stopping mere feet from his car.
Riley turned just in time to see James quickly leave the car and run towards him. He only had seconds to duck as James' fist swung towards him.
James, who was still furious with the recent call he had received from his boss, looked towards the car then back at Riley, "It would be in your best interest that you were telling me the truth when you said you had Edward and his brat."
Riley's attempt at a calm façade was long gone after seeing James' face, but he managed to nod and then pulled the remote out of his pocket which controlled the trunk.
Edward braced himself for the moment when he would attack James. After getting out of the ropes easily, he knew he only had seconds to tackle James when the trunk was popped. His plans came to a halt when he heard the words that came out of James' mouth next.
"Show me the girl first." James demanded, he could tell something was up, especially when Riley hesitated before nodding and walking around the car where Bella was currently lid down across the back seat. He still wasn't satisfied, even after seeing her unconscious state. "Get her out of the car and into mine. Then you will show me that Edward is indeed in the trunk."
Riley was silently cursing as he unlocked the back door and did what he was told. Feigning sleep was easier said than done as Bella's body began to move as she was dragged from the back of Seth's car. James stopped Riley's movements and pushed him to the side so that he could carry her himself. Bella decided it was a good time to 'wake up' and did so before James could get a good grip on her.
"No!" She screamed when she seen James' face only inches from hers. "Get away from me!"
"Can you not follow simple orders? I told you to tie her up and gag her. She's got a loud mouth, this one." James said, gripping her ankle and pulling her towards him. Hers attempts to kick him were futile as he had both of her ankle gripped in one hand.
With James momentarily distracted, Riley took this as his chance to free Edward from the trunk to catch James off guard like they had original planned. It didn't work, much to both of their dismay. James had decided only seconds before that Bella was more trouble than she was worth and as Riley's hand made a move to press the button in his pocket, James caught it and him.
"What the hell are you doing Riley?" James asked, calmly closing the door on Bella who was now a sobbing mess in the backseat of the car.
"I-I-was locking the d-door." The look on James' face told Riley he didn't believe him, but luckily for Riley, the doors were already locked so when James tried the door, it didn't budge.
"You got damn lucky this time, but I know you're lying to me. I can see it in your eyes." Just as he was about to continue speaking, a cell phone rang loudly throughout the clearing. James' eye scanned the area around him and landed on the trunk causing Riley's heartrate to increase tenfold. "Open the trunk," he demanded, moving to stand behind the car.
Riley did as he was told, while at the same time unlocking the car for Bella to escape at the next available chance. Just as the trunk opened, James held his hands the top of it, stopping it from opening completely. He pulled out his gun and motioned for Riley to get the girl in the backseat.
Sending a silent prayer to the heavens above, he pulled Bella from the car, a little too rough for his liking, but they both knew it was all for show. James motioned him to come closer and in a swift movement he had a hand wrapped tightly around Bella's neck, her body pulled tightly against his, and the gun trained on her head.
All the while, Edward was retying the ropes around his wrist because he knew James' was smarter than he looked. His Plan B wasn't going to work this time, but there were still twenty-four letters left in the alphabet.
As the trunk slowly opened, James' frustration continued to grow. He was sure Edward was hiding in the woods ready to pounce on him, but instead, low and behold, Riley had done something right for once in his life and followed a direct order from James. Much to his surprise, Riley had succeeded in capturing the high and mighty Edward Cullen.
"Well it seems as though you aren't a complete waste of space after all, and your life is spared for one more day. I think you deserve a reward for a job well done." James looked towards Riley with a sickeningly sweet smile plastered on his face. It was then that Riley knew they were all in deep trouble. "Let's make a call to daddy dearest, shall we?"
Bella took that as her cue to end this once and for all. With one swift movement, she twisted her body out of James' grip and while he was still distracted, proceeded to headbutt and knee him in the stomach at the same time. Her plan worked; in seconds James fell to the ground in pain, holding both his stomach and his nose, which was now bleeding profusely.
Edward was out of the trunk and by her side in seconds before Bella could process what she had just done. He kicked James gun out of his reach, which had fallen out of his hand during the fall, and wasted no time in tying the rope around his wrist and ankles with skilled, complicated knots.
"Damn you Cullen," James spat towards him. "You'll regret the day you crossed me."
"See that's where you're wrong, because this is what happens when you mess with a Cullen; you lose." Edward bloated as he finished the last knot and stood up, admiring his handiwork.
"Riley, what the hell are you doing just standing there? Help me, shoot them, grab the girl, do something!"
"You're mistaken James, Riley works for my father, and therefore works for me. He only follows rules that I or my father has given him, and he followed this rule to a tee. Good job, son." Edward clapped Riley on the shoulder and nodded at him.
"Is he telling the truth, Riley? Have you been lying to me this entire time?" Edward knew at that moment, Riley was caught between a rock and a hand place.
"I'm sorry James, my loyalties lie with the Cullen's. Mr. Cullen hired me as a mechanic, and I am going to continue working as a mechanic. He is my boss, not you." Edward felt proud at Riley as he stood up to James. He made it his goal to ensure Riley's family was protected and that he had a secured job for the rest of his life, but an easy way out if he ever decided to quit and move on.
"My father is going to have a field day with you." Edward laughed towards James as his faced visibly paled.
"Come on Edward," James managed to get out through his panic, "how about we keep this between us? It would be in both of our best interest, I mean come on, how are you going to explain your way out of this one? You being this far from New York with Isabella?"
Edward took slow calculated steps towards James, and then knelt so his face was inches from his, "What I do and where I go is nobodies concern, especially not yours, got it?" He waited to James so nod before standing to full height and brushing off his pants.
"What did you want me to do with him sir?" Riley asked in a low voice. If it weren't for his intense training, he probably wouldn't have heard what he had said.
"It's Edward, and don't worry about him. I'll take care of it." Edward smiled towards Riley then continued, "I was talking to my father and he approved it for you to have the rest of the today and the next two days off with full pay."
Bella's heart broke as the young man looked as though he was about to cry upon hearing Edward's words. Her heart ached to find someone like Riley who would love her someday as much as he loved his family. If she ever got out of this mess alive, that is.
With that, Edward wasted no time pulling James to his feet and pushing him towards his hidden car. As James stumbled in front of him, Edward reached back and offered Bella his hand, which surprisingly, she took without hesitation. He couldn't tell if it was out of fear of James and Riley watching them interact or if she did it willingly. Either way, Edward was content that she was finally somewhat accepting this whole situation, as messed up and unfortunate as it is.
Okay, so I didn't want to leave it there, but I also wanted to start fresh in the next chapter so I decided I was going to end it anyways.
Hopefully, this chapter wasn't too much of a bore or didn't have too many spelling/grammar mistakes. I haven't been in contact with my beta since I got back from my trip so after having a 2-hour nap like 5 hours ago, this is spontaneous because I can't get to sleep.
Let me know what you think of this chapter the reviews and I'll send you a preview of the next chapter! (Hopefully the next chapter will be up next week because I really want to have a set schedule!)
Love you all but now it's time for bed,
Mady xo
