Aichi's POV

Sweat was rolling down my neck as the fourth damage fell into my damage zone. I gulped in nervousness as Kai-kun ended his turn. His play style changed entirely. He made all the right turns and guarded when it was necessary. It seemed like he knew when my trigger units would come.

"I stand and I draw. I cross-break ride, Liberator of Bonds, Gancelot Zenith! He gets the +10000 and +2000 as long as he has Solitary Liberator, Gancelot in the soul."

Kai just kept staring at me, like he wasn't taking me seriously at all. He had a Dragonic Overlord on the field and much more less rear-guards than me, but the fact that he hadn't even flinched during the whole fight made me worried. He was overflowing with confidence and that scared me.

"Now with the boost of Wingal, Escrad comes for your vanguard!"

"I guard."

"Now I activate Gancelot Zenith's Limit Break! I counterblast 1 and put a unit to the bottom of my deck. I look at the top card and I can superior call it on the battlefield with a bonus of +10000! I call Liberator of Silence, Gallatin!"

I kept crushing into him with my attacks and all, but at the end I couldn't give the finishing blow. He stayed at the fifth damage point and now it was his turn and by the smirk on his face it couldn't mean anything good.

"You have to stop this, Kai-kun!" I yelled desperately to my opponent. I tried to like a dozen of times during the fight, but he ignored all of my questions. What is wrong with him? This wasn't the same person who I knew. The reverse must have totally taken control, because Kai-kun would never continue this nonsense willingly.

"Sendou Aichi, no matter what you say, you can't change anything anymore. I'm going to take the last remaining Angelic Jewel inside your body and then nothing can stop me from fulfilling my destiny. You have fought well, but now it's over... Final turn!"

I gasped in shock at his infamous line. My heartbeat fastened up and I started to panic a little. Kai never says final turn for nothing. I have seen all the units he used so far, does it mean that now the time has come for him to pull out his trump card Naoki-kun was talking about? He drew his card and I watched carefully all of his movements.

"Holy dragon which brings this world to a new era, rise and destroy all that steps in my way, I Break Ride Transcendence Dragon, Dragonic Nouvelle Vague!"

A majestic red colored dragon appeared before me, the bright shining light totally blinding me. I have never seen nor heard about a unit like this before. What is this? And more importantly, where did Kai-kun get such card? But something was off. How come his vanguard has 13000 and it was just then I noticed the grade.

This dragon was a Grade 4.

"And now I Limit Break and Persona Blast! Also I pay a cost of a Counter Blast 3 and Soul Blast 3 to retire all of your rear-guards! Now with the boost from Bahr, Vague attacks Gancelot Zenith!"

I was in a pretty rough situation now. I had a Perfect Guard in my hand, but that would leave me defenseless against his two rear-guard attacks. I hope it won't come that far that I would need to pray for a heal trigger. So far I have had only 1 heal trigger. Maybe I will luck out, somehow.

"I guard with Halo Liberator, Mark!"

"I check the Twin Drive. First, draw trigger, power goes to Nehalem and the second check, critical trigger, all the effects to Nehalem as well. Now Nehalem attacks!"

The power was overwhelming. I can't stop this attack. But I believed. I have two chances of getting a trigger. That's no problem, right? The attack hit and now I was doomed if I didn't get a heal trigger. I won't allow myself to lose. I have to save Kai-kun and the Earth.

"I will check for damage. First damage is Little Liberator, Marron… and the second…"

My hand was shaking and my heart was pounding. The last time I have felt this way was when I fought Kai at the roof of the Tatsunagi Corporation building. But it still steams me that Kai-kun refuses to tell me what actually happened that he's in the reverse again.

"Don't waste my time and let's end this already."

"Second check…"

My eyes widened in shock as I saw the familiar green mark in the right corner. It was Elixir Liberator, my heal trigger!

"Your struggling is useless. During the turn Vague was ridden all your trigger effects are nullified."

My sixth damage fell to my damage zone, meaning I had lost the game. I felt a burning sensation on my chest and saw my white mark glowing. Then like someone would rip my heart out a jewel came out of my body. So this was the enemy was after. At least I know how the Angelic Jewel looks like.

"Kai-kun, please just tell me why."

"I have no obligations to tell you. Farewell, Sendou Aichi," Kai exclaimed, before receiving the jewel and turning his back to me. After that my whole world went black and I lost consciousness. Still I wish at least I would have known the reason before I would die.

…

"Aichi! Aichi!" I heard a familiar voice calling me. I opened my eyes and looked around. I was in the middle of a forest and it was sometime around noon. I looked to my right to see a pair of emerald eyes. A smile formed on my face as I looked relieved at Kourin-san. I sat up and saw Miwa-kun, Misaki-san and Asaka-san, and Kamui-kun looking after my friends.

Are we all dead now?

"We were so worried! You all suddenly disappeared without a word!" Kourin-san exclaimed, hugging me tightly. So I guess we are not dead after all. Have we been sent to Earth to die after the satanic power would be released and engulf everything in darkness and despair?

I looked at my right to see an envelope in my right jacket pocket. I pulled it out since I was pretty sure I didn't have it when I fought Kai-kun. Why didn't he tell me? I keep thinking about this, but what reason could he have to do such a thing to us. What could he gain from the evil by betraying the ones closest to him? I opened it and widened my eyes at seeing Kai-kun's handwriting.

Aichi,

I want to apologize for my actions. I did all this only for the pure purpose to protect you from harm. I had accepted the power offered to me to defeat the evil threatening this world to protect all of you I hold so dear. I didn't tell you, because I knew you would have wanted to stop me, but at least now I can correct my sins, when I was under the reverse.

And I want to tell you something, I never had the courage to do.
