Firstly as always THANK YOU for everything, every time I get constructive criticism I try to take it on board. SO for this chapter I have tried really really hard to punctuate properly BUT if there are any grammar, spelling or punctuation mistakes in this or any chapter it is all on ME. I may be British but English was not my strongest subject, so I really do try for you guys. Anyway before we start we finally hear about the past... I hope you enjoy and I'll leave a note at the end...

It had been 2 weeks, Felicity had done exactly as Oliver had stated. She had given him the time he needed, and now she had had enough of sitting at home. Chloe and Ray had finally gone on their honeymoon that morning and Felicity was ready to get back in to it all. That was if Oliver still wanted her after all.

She was nervous; she couldn't get this feeling of dread from the pit of her stomach. She convinced herself it was just because she hadn't heard anything from Oliver in all that time, Diggle had come to see her a handful of times, even messaged her, but Oliver really did keep his distance. She stepped out the elevator and didn't even bother to knock just letting herself in.

The 4 people inside froze as she stood there, Oliver, Diggle, Slade and an Asian young lady she presumed to be Shado all stood around the room. The closed off blank expression on Olivers face told her everything she needed to know.

"I... Sorry for interrupting... This," she said gesturing to the room, "I should probably be going." she said pointing behind her, she turned around.

"Miss Smoak?" she froze at the Australian accent flowing through the room and span back around.

"Yes."

"Come in, close the door." She did exactly that and stepped forward, "I must say, I've seen the work you've been doing Miss Smoak, the alerts you set up looking for me, that I must say did work but," he shrugged lightly, "The research into Miss Rochev, the hacking, you could be a real asset to the agency." She glanced at Oliver and she could visibly see his fists tighten and his jaw clench.

"But I thought Waller was using you," Felicity frowned. "I thought she was blaming you..." Shado stepped closer to Slade then

"She was but she has been demoted, Johns wife is temporarily in charge." She glanced at Diggle, who stood arms crossed.

"Waller couldn't be fired she knows too much, but she'll be kept an eye on now. Lyla's taken the position until a replacement can be found or the baby is born, it'll work better under her control."

"Oh," her eyes landed on Oliver and he stared at her, his eyes seemed empty. "What about the murders? What about finding the real person behind your accident?" The other 3 looked between the two as Oliver remained silent, "I could start looking into it, I could get into the system again cross reference all similar murders like Slade said," she stood taller then, "I could even look into the link with the Inferno and Miss Rochev, they must know something about her parents-"

"No," Oliver finally spoke, his voice deep and quite startling, "you aren't needed on this Felicity, you don't work for the agency."

"But I want to help..." the other 3 remained silent

"I don't want you to help," he straightened up, "Could you guys give us a minute?"

"Sure kid," Slade said as he slowly wrapped an arm around Shado who smiled sincerely at Felicity as they passed her. Diggle hesitated, giving Oliver a look but he didn't even respond. He made his way by Felicity gently squeezing her arm.

"Call me, no matter what." He said joining the other two as they all left the penthouse together.

An awkward silence fell around them as Felicity frowned at Oliver; he turned her back on her just like at the hospital. This time she walked over to him, she gently placed her hand over his as he rested it on the breakfast bar. She heard his breath catch at the contact but instantly he pulled away turning to face her.

"Don't do this," she said staring into his eyes, "I understand, what happened freaked you out because I got hurt-"

"It's not just that." he whispered butting in but Felicity ignored him

"But I'm not going anywhere, you gave me those two weeks and I didn't need them Oliver."

"But I did."

"What's that supposed to mean?" She frowned looking up at him.

"This, us it isn't going to work."

"But you said you wanted me, wanted us." she shook her head in disbelief.

"Well people can change their minds." Felicity couldn't help the laugh of disbelief that consumed her.

"You're doing it again, pushing me away because you're scared, it's just like last time though admittedly last time there was other stuff too" she saw Oliver visibly cringe at the mention of their joint past. She could feel her heart pounding waiting for him to speak but he said nothing, so she carried on, "but it's definitely you not fighting for me, for us, you're giving up before it's even properly begun-" she saw the hurt flash across his face and then he shouted.

"I'm not giving up! We won't work! Our history proved that! I mean for Christ's sake Felicity you were my first job!" Her eyes widened in shocked as he ran a hand down the back of his neck, "shit." he whispered under his breath.

"What?" She stuttered out.

"Nothing"

"I was a job? As in for the agency? You were just..." She shook her head trying to process everything, "was it for my hacking?"

"Sort of," he shrugged, "they wanted someone to protect you, to keep an eye on you and your hacking, someone that was organic, that wouldn't alter your life."

"Organic? Alter my life? You spent most of that year with me, I told you things I hardly told anyone-" she could feel her heart starting to break. He lied; he had been lying from the start.

"Felicity it wasn't like that-"

"We slept together..."

"That wasn't part of the plan, I was meant to keep an eye on you for your dad."

"You... You know my dad?" She could feel the anger and hurt combining as his words slipped out.

"I've been meaning to tell you, I just haven't found the right time yet." He took a step towards her, his hands open and she took a step back her hands clinging to her own chest.

"Who is he?" She spat out.

"I can't tell you that." he said shaking his head, the emotionless expression and deep voice were gone. Now she just saw concern, and regret, his voice was soft and low.

"Well I'll just hack the agency database."

"You can't do that it's illegal, and there won't be any information."

"It's never stopped me before, I can find out."

"Felicity he's just trying to protect you... And so am I." she looked away from him then.

"What by lying to me? By keeping things that could change my whole life to yourself?" She took a deep breath, before looking up into his eyes, "By walking out on me, by leaving me alone?"

"It's not like that..." He said and she saw the pain visible in his eyes,

"Really because that's what it feels like... Was I just a job to you?" He frowned.

"I had to monitor you then and I promised I'd protect you."

"Even now, did you do all this because I am a job?"

"You walked back into my life, I had no control over that and you'll always be a job Felicity."

"But I'm not."

"You are and this life I lead, it's only going to end one of 2 ways... My death or worse yours." Felicitys face dropped fighting back the tears, as she felt her heart shatter in her chest.

"You don't lead that life anymore."

"I do Felicity, I killed those men, it's who I am, no matter what choice I make I will always be dragged back in."

"You have a choice-" She could feel this never ending battle slipping away.

"And I made it a long time ago..." Oliver leaned down and pressed a button on the side of the breakfast bar, some of his cupboards moved to reveal an array of weaponry.

"I... If one thing this whole event has taught me it's that life is precious... And I want to live life, I wanted to live it with you," she removed her eyes from the shelves and stared into his deep blue eyes, Felicity took a step back, "I... I can't watch you believe you're slowly dying a little every day, I won't. And I'm not staying here to be your job, I'm not and I can't live a life not knowing if I ever meant anything to you," his mouth opened and she shook her head as she continued, "you have lied to me about my own father, you hurt me back then and right here that pain feels nothing compared to now," she stopped the tears from falling, as a lump caught in her throat, "I can't keep thinking you've let me in when you put all these walls back up," she turned around walking to the door, turning her head back to his as she grabbed the handle. "I quit as your EA, I just I can't keep doing this."

She gestured between the two and then opened the door, slamming it closed behind her before Oliver even had a chance to process all her words. His head dropped to his chest as he let out a shaky breath, fighting his own instincts to chase after her, because after all she was a lot safer if he wasn't in her life. She wasn't his weakness, no not at all, but he didn't want her getting hurt, just by people wanting to get to him.

As soon as Felicity stepped outside her emotions hit her, she had lost her job, lost her boyfriend and her life had changed all over again due to this man. Every emotion from anger to hurt to deceit to love, love, She let herself cry then because she was in love with Oliver. He had ended things, and she had walked out before she got a chance to tell him she loved him. A sense of relief washed over her as she realised she was glad she hadn't told him because having told him would definitely make this worse.

It was weird because Felicity realised she wasn't crying because Oliver had lied, or even kept things from her. She understood in a weird way that he was protecting her and whatever her father was doing he was protecting her too, but what she didn't like was the fact Oliver didn't fight for them. He hadn't even chased after her and that upset her. She sighed as she cried for the future she had lost, the life with him she thought they were capable of having now having been ripped away. Her heart ached as she tried to calm herself. Her mind wandered back to the past, about the last time her heart broke over him.

Felicity stretched her arms out expecting to feel Oliver, but he wasn't there. She sat up reaching for her glasses placing them on. She looked around the room to find it empty, Oliver wasn't there, and all his clothes were gone. She frowned, an uneasy feeling taking over her. She looked at the time 8.15am crap! Her exam started in 45 minutes and she needed to be there in 30. She shot out of bed, pulled on her clothes as quickly as possible, tying her hair into a ponytail. She didn't have time for makeup but she wasn't bothered, this was a practical exam, so staring at a computer for hours. She sighed looking around her room, a smile on her face as she remembered about last night, before quickly locking her door and rushing to the bathroom.

She had hurried that much she had time to grab herself a quick coffee from a stand close to the exam hall. Several people must have had the same idea as she was in queue of people. She was pleasantly day dreaming, thinking of the previous night when the two guys' conversation in front of her caught her attention.

"Queen and Merlyn's party was sick last night!" The taller guy said enthusiastically,

"Quiet… hangover... I wouldn't be here if we didn't have football practise." the shorter guy answered.

"Well I'm just saying dudes know how to throw a party"

"Yes they sure do, but where did Ollie disappear to last night?" Felicity instantly felt the blush rise as she remembered their night.

"A girl."

"He ditched his own party for a girl?"

"It wasn't just any girl," Felicity couldn't believe what she was hearing, "this was the girl he had the bet on."

"What bet?"

"You know the chick in B halls, the Vegas one," Felicitys heart hammered in her chest as she felt a torrent of emotion hit her.

"Oh... Oh that one, the whole sleep with her before the end of the year and get a $100,000 with that other rich kid, not Merlyn... That other dude!"

"Yep that one… well Ollie was seen sneaking out of her halls earlier this morning." he said giving his friend a knowing glance

"Well we all know Ollie never loses a bet, especially when it involves a girl." Felicitys heart was aching and her head pounding. She was bet. All this time had been a lie, just a way to get into her pants. How could she have been so stupid to have trusted him?

She stopped the tears from falling as she walked out the queue; coffee was the last thing on her mind. She tried to think of the time they had spent together how she was genuinely falling for Oliver Queen yet it had all been a lie on his part. She looked at the clock 8.44; she didn't have time to panic now. She had an exam to do. She took a deep breath as she headed inside.

2 hours later and Felicity walked out the hall; she was the last out as the crowds dispersed quickly. She walked down the steps, rushing back to halls. That's why she didn't see him stood leaning against the tree as she passed him.

"Felicity!" Oliver called out, she didn't stop, she couldn't. Her exam had been disastrous, she had spent most of the two hours distracted; her brain analysing all the little things Oliver had done. "Felicity?" he said grabbing her wrist. She stopped then and stared at his hand encircling her wrist. He let go frowning, "what's wrong?" He asked taking a step closer, not touching her, but she looked into his eyes, she was lost in them, "Is this about this morning? About me not being there?" And suddenly it all came crashing back; she took a step back from him and only caused him to frown harder.

"I know." She practically whispered.

"You know what?"

"I know okay? You don't need to pretend anymore."

"I don't understand."

"The reason you left this morning, because this was a onetime thing." she said her head dropping.

"Felicity"

"No okay? You don't get to say my name like that anymore."

"Like what?" He frowned.

"Like you care, like I matter," she took a deep breath, "I thought this, us, I meant something more than your usual flings, you were my first Oliver..." his mouth fell open.

"What?!... Why didn't you say anything?" He asked searching her face for something.

"Because it wouldn't have changed anything for you, we'd still be at this point, in this situation."

"I don't-"

"Just stop!" She shouted causing a few people to look in their direction; she dropped her voice, "the bet." His eyes flashed with recognition and he saw her face drop as he realised he'd given himself away.

"Please let me-"

"No, your reaction said enough, it's true..." She shook her head "I thought you were better than that, I thought this was different for you. Like I said I thought you were special enough to be my first but you just... You used me," she couldn't stop a tear from falling and Olivers hand shot up, she took a step back so he couldn't touch her, "no, you don't ever get to touch me again, to see me again," she took a shaky breath as she tried to regain her composure "I don't want to ever see or hear from you again, Ollie."

It dripped with bitterness off her tongue and she saw him visibly recoil. She hated it but that was who he was: Ollie, the womaniser, playboy, billionaire, there was more to him than most people knew but still he played that image up for everyone, and that was what he had done to lose her. She turned away from him and walked off. She never looked back, but if she had she would have seen him frozen to the spot, a look of absolute devastation and horror on his face.

As soon as Felicity walked into her apartment, her tears had stopped. She couldn't cry anymore. She looked at her place, the home she now shared with a newlywed couple and the city she had called her home for the last 5 years. She sat on the sofa thinking about the decisions she had made over the year, of everything around her and that's when she found herself on the phone to Frank.

"Hey sweetheart, what can I do for you?"

"Can I come and stay in the beach house?"

"You and Oliver?" She could hear the suggestion in his tone.

"No just me, I need a break, I need some space and time to think, I need... I need..." She took a deep breath, "I need to sort my life out." She whispered.

"Felicity what's happened?"

"I... I quit my job I don't work for Oliver anymore."

"Oh," she could hear the understanding, "I'm sorry darling, of course you are more than welcome, head up and come see us whenever you're ready."

"Thank you." She replied.

"No problem." She hung up and glanced around her.

She knew running away wouldn't solve anything, but she wasn't running away, she was merely having a break; some time to really think about what she wanted, especially now.

Firstly I'm SORRY! It hurt me too to hurt her... and please please don't hate Oliver just yet... Remember there is reason we only see the flashback from her point of view this time ;) :P... BUT I also hope that, the revelation of the past lived up to expectations too! I don't know, I'm not sure...

Also remember it hurt me to write this as much as it hurt for you to read it :(, I'll try to be back soon!
