Elena opens the door for and steps aside, "thanks for coming."
Stefan walks in, his eyes trained on the top of the stairs as he asks, "Has she said anything yet?"
Elena knows that Alyssa is the one he's referring to and answers shaking her head and shut the door, "nothing."
He turns to her as he recalls something she had confided in him the previous days. "You said she was like this after you're parents died; withdrawn?"
"Wasn't like she was there in the first place but it got worse after they died. It's normal behavior for her really and I wouldn't have been worried except now everything is heightened now that's she's a vampire…."
"You're afraid of what she's going to do?"
"Aren't you?"
He had to admit, it had cross his mind.
As if he needed the remind she says, "Remember what she was like after Vicki died? What she did to Lexi?"
He flashes back to the night he watched his best friend being staked by Damon after she's vervained and carrying out of the grill by a couple of deputies into the parking lot where he stood nearby and watched Damon plunged a steak through her heart. He also remembers going back to the Gilbert home where Alyssa admits to knowing what Damon had plan and also helped carry out the plot by fingering her out herself all to get back at him for killing Vicki.
"What she almost did to Caroline," The night of the Carnival after Katherine had killed her when she had Damon's blood in her system. Before she realized what she was, Alyssa and Damon went looking for Caroline with the sole purpose of killing her. Damon because he saw Caroline as threat someone who was going to be potentially as unstable as Vicki had been. Alyssa wanted her dead because she didn't think that it was fair Elena's friend got to live and hers didn't.
"And that was before she was a vampire." Since then, she nearly killed and threatened to kill Elena on numerous occasions. She'd kidnapped and tortured Mason Lockwood into giving up the moonstone. She shot Caroline outing her as a vampire to her mom as a way to save Stefan and Damon from getting killed thanks to Mason Lockwood revealing the truth about them being vampires. It didn't, and she nearly killed Carol for it if Damon hadn't stopped her.
It's why Elena was so worried and why she had called Stefan to see if he could catch her before she went off the deep end. Stefan however didn't think he was the right Salvatore brother to help her through this, but Damon was another reason Alyssa has closed herself off, and he wasn't in the best shape himself to help. But maybe it was exactly what he needed to get his brother to want to fight. If he knew Alyssa was in trouble, maybe he would stop wallowing in self pity long enough to want to save his own life so that he could help save hers.
He just have to get through to her long enough for there to be something left for him to save. He wasn't sure what he was going to say to her but he knew the right words would come once he saw her. So he agrees and goes up to talk to her leaving Elena downstairs to wait. She didn't have to wait for long. He came back down almost as soon as he went up there his face contorted into worried. Before she could ask what's wrong he had answers telling her that she's gone.
Alyssa greets Bonnie as she walks up, "thanks for meeting me Bonnie."
"I'm not sure I should've. What are we doing here?" She asks looking at the old building behind her.
"I need your help." She was the only person that she could think to go to help her with this. She had gotten the idea from Stefan two nights ago and though she told him she wasn't going to, she knew she could just sit around and wait for Damon to die. She would never forgive herself if she didn't at least try.
"The night Jenna died Klaus told me he had plans for me. I'm not sure what that means but Damon's dying and I think I can use it to save him, only before I do something incredibly stupid, I need to know if there's another way to save him."
"Why would I help you save him after everything he's done? Why would you?" She had just as much reason to hate him namely killing her best friend and yet there she was asking for her help to save him.
"Because I can't lose another person that I love. You've done a séance before" She was there when she contacted Emily which ended in her being possessed and bit by Damon so she could see the reason for her hesitation. "It's like that but on a bigger scale. One of the witches have to know how to help Damon."
"Let's just hope they want to." She says as her way of agreeing and Alyssa follows her inside the room she had found Jeremy in two nights ago and the candles in the room suddenly start burning. Some voices start whispering around them but she can't hear what they are saying and looks to Bonnie for help understanding.
Bonnie, who appears to be in a trance finally opens her eyes but Bonnie isn't the one who speaks, "Why have you come here?"
"I need your help. I need to know if there's a spell that can heal a werewolf bite."
"No. Nature ensures a balance to everything."
"Is that true...or are you just saying no because it's Damon?" She knew the precarious history that Emily shares with Damon, as everyone who knows him seems to, and she knew Emily would be the last one to want to help him.
"Perhaps it is his time to die."
"Perhaps, but that doesn't mean there isn't a way to save him. I know what's Damon done to your family but, Emily please?"
"I will not give you what you want."
"So you're saying that there's an answer to give? You're just not going to tell me."
Bonnie suddenly holds her ears and screams in pain and then falls to the floor. The candles burn flare up before burning out and when they do Bonnie is back. They don't want us here." She says as Alyssa helps her stand. "They think I'm abusing their power."
"They know something." She could tell Emily was holding something back but her history with Damon wasn't going to allow her to help. "They just don't want to tell me."
Bonnie was unsure whether or not to tell her what she knew because of what she had just learned but did so anyway with hesitation. "I heard them say a name."
"What was it?"
"Klaus."
Alyssa left the witch's house with Bonnie hot on her trail. "You're not seriously considering going to talk to him are you?" She was hoping that she was going to be able to talk her out of doing whatever it is she was about to do.
"It's the only way to save Damon."
"Even if the witches are right," Bonnie huffed trying to keep up with Alyssa hurried strides as she walks back to her car, "and Klaus is the answer, what do you think he's going to want in return for his help because he sure isn't going to do it out of the kindness of his heart."
"I don't know but whatever it is he's going to get it."
Bonnie stops her from getting into the car. "Do you hear yourself right now? You're about to risk your life to save Damon's. And why? Because you've convinced yourself that you're in love with him?"
"You're the last person I need to justify why I feel what I feel and to whom I feel it for. You were willing to die to save the people you care about including Elena so don't you dare criticize me for doing the same because guess what Elena's alive. So are all those people you were trying to protect. You get to talk to them and hold them and celebrate birthdays and holidays with them. Everyone else you'll get to see on the other side those witchy ancestors of yours prove that. You get to talk to them continue to get wisdom for them.
Me," she got up close and personal to her and Bonnie backs away seeing the look in her eyes, "everyone I care about is dead. My parents, Vicky, Jenna, their all gone and I'm never going to see them again so if I choose to save one of the few people left in this world that I actually give a damn about I will. And you Bonnie Bennett will not stand in my way because I can promise you, you won't live long enough to regret it." She promises before turning and getting into the car.
Bonnie doesn't stop her this time out steps out of the way as she peels away leaving smoke and dust in her tracks. She calls up Alaric and have him meet her back in at his old place where Klaus was still held up. She didn't tell him why he wanted him to meet her there only saying that she needed to get in to talk to Katherine.
She could tell over the phone Alaric wasn't sure whether or not he should but she made sure the tone in her voice left no room or argument as she hung up and speed towards his place. He's already there and waiting when she shows up.
She doesn't answer any of his questions only says, "invite me in."
He does so but makes it known it's under protest. She turns to him before going and tells him, "you might want to go see Damon. Tyler Lockwood bit him and he's dying. He doesn't have that long." She doesn't wait for his reaction as she walks in and sees Katherine sitting on the bed.
She stands up when she sees her completely outraged. "Two days, I've been waiting. I'm supposed to be free of Klaus' compulsion by now. He's supposed to be dead!
"We ran into a few complications." Alyssa says as she stops in front of her.
"Complications?"
"Doesn't really matter. I just need to find him. Do you have any idea where he might be?"
Katherine pushes her against the wall and her first instinct is to fight but she motions for her to be quiet. Klaus and Elijah walk through the door. "Klaus, you're back." She pulls Alyssa from out of the corner. "Look who decided to come for a visit."
"Alyssa Gilbert," Klaus says pleasantly surprised and somewhat amused, "come to exact a little revenge have will?"
"Nothing would give me more pleasure than to cause the two of you even a fraction of the pain you've caused me the last two days and I mean that from the bottom of my heart. But I know when I've been beating so instead I've come here to ask for your help instead and in exchange I'll give you what you want. Me."
This new revelation was news to Elijah and he turns to his brother wonder what scheme he's cooked up now. "Now what could you possibly want with her?"
"It's nothing more than a hunch really either way the lovely Miss Gilbert here is even more valuable to me than her sister or should I say cousin was. Of course I thought it was going to take a little more convincing but yet here you are offering yourself up like a sacrificial lamb for what?"
He doesn't wait long enough for her to answer.
"Let me guess to save Damon Salvatore. That was a rather nasty werewolf bite. Tell me, has the hallucinations started?" He asks with a wolfish smile. "Don't know? Well I can assume they have and they are rather nasty but you already know that. I also gather you know that I can save him or else you would be looking for aid somewhere else."
"There is nowhere else. But you already know that. So just make me a deal. Give me the cure, and I'll do whatever you want."
"I would love to but the trouble, you are just shy of useless the way you are. I don't know if you'd be any good to me. But I suspect that there's an inner beast in you just waiting to get it out." His wolfish smile turns wicked and it turns her blood cold.
"Surely you must have suspected the truth especially after spending all that time in the comfort of one Tyler Lockwood. The two of you have more in common then this sleepy little town and a few friends. You both have the same temperaments, especially on a full moon. Then there's the crescent shaped birthmark on your back."
She turns to look at it even though she can't visibly see it she knows that it's there. She looks up at him but doesn't say anything.
"It's a family trait one that is passed down through the bloodline. Only as you know you're the only one in your family that has it which lead to me realize…"
"Elena wasn't the only one adopted."
"And like the dearly departed Elena, you were kept in the family to be raised as a Gilbert. Unlike Elena you aren't actually a Gilbert but you share blood all the same."
That would mean.
"Jenna was my mom." She then realizes. "It's why it had to be her. She was the only thing standing in the way. It was the only way you could get to me." She didn't fully understand what he wants with her but she was beginning to realize that his plan had been set in motion for years.
"It happened sooner than I thought but with you taking Caroline I had to improvise and Jenna was in the way and had to be dealt with eventually. It seemed like a fitting end. There's also the matter of you turning before I was ready," he looks at Katherine who was the reason she had turned ahead of schedule, "but there are ways around that. It'll take some time but think of the fun."
Fun wasn't exactly what she would call it but if it was going to help Damon she would go along with it. "And you'll save him?"
"Scout's honor."
She looks at Elijah. "What about him?"
"Ah yes." He faces Elijah having momentarily forgotten about him. "I promised my dear brother that I would that he would be reunited with our family and that obligation needs immediate attention."
"You understand how important family is." Elijah says as a way to explain him breaking his promise.
"I do. I also understand how important it is to keep your word. So I sincerely mean it when I say I hope it hurts."
Klaus pulls the dagger out of his inside dagger and pushes it through Elijah's heart killing him.
Alyssa watches with satisfaction as he dedicates and falls to the floor. Klaus walks over to her putting a hand on her shoulder. "We're going to do great things together you and I."
"Hold up you're end of the deal and the things we do together won't just be great. They'll be legendary. But first, I need to know how do you plan on saving him?"
Klaus smile widens at her answer and he turns to Katerina motioning for her to come forward. "Katerina, come here." Katherine gets closer. He takes her arm. His face changes, his eyes are yellow. He bites her.
"Aah! Aah! No. No...No. No. No." He bites his own wrist. He makes Katherine drink his blood. Her wound heals. Klaus looks at Stefan.
"You want your cure? There it is."
"Your blood is the cure?"
Klaus moves towards the kitchen grabs a knife and squeezing a knife blade tightly, and blood is pouring from his hand into a vial. Alyssa is looking at him. Katherine is in retreat, looking at them.
Klaus response, "Gotta love Mother Nature."
"So that's it? He drinks your blood and he's cured."
"And he can have it." He says holding it out to her. "All you have to do is embrace what you truly are, leave town with me, and you save his life."
Alyssa doesn't hesitate before she takes it.
"If I were you, I would hurry."
She nods before looking at Katherine and vamps speed out of there. She arrives at the Salvatore house calling for Damon but hears Elena's voice instead. She follows it up to Damon's room where she sees Damon laying in Elena's arms talking. She stays hidden not wanting to interrupt what she knows is a moment happening between them. She just stands a listens.
"This is even more pitiful than I thought." He comments.
"There's still hope." She response and the tone she hears in Damon's voice breaks her heart.
"I've made a lot of choices that have gotten me here. I deserve this. I deserve to die."
"No." She lies down next to him and faces him. "You don't."
"I do, Elena. It's okay. 'Cause if I'd have chosen differently, I wouldn't have met you. I'm so sorry. Done so many things to hurt you."
"It's okay. I forgive you."
"I know you love Stefan. And it will always be Stefan." She takes his hand and lies next to him, putting her head on his shoulder. "But I love you. You should know that."
Elena cries and nods and Alyssa could feel her own tears and she listens to him saying all the things she wishes he could say to her to someone else, considering everything she was giving up for him.
"I do."
"You should have met me in 1864. You would have liked me."
Elena raises her head and looks at him. "I like you now. Just the way you are."
He closes his eyes. She kisses him.
"Thank you."
"You're welcome."
Alyssa wipes her eyes pulling herself together before she goes in. Damon sees her walk in and tries to sit up. "You're back. Didn't think you were going to make it in time. Now you get to watch me die."
Elena turns and gets off the bed when she sees her. A look of guilt crosses her face over the possibility of getting caught and she would have smiled if not for the pain in her chest. She addresses Elena with her eyes as she walks passed her and sits down on the bed next to Damon.
"Did you really think I was going to let that happen?" She took out the vial if Klaus's blood and show him. "I got you something." She opens the vial and slowly pours Klaus's blood in his mouth. "This will make you feel better." She lets him have a few drops before closing the vial back.
"Where did you?" Elena starts to ask and she answers.
"Klaus." Alyssa wasn't up for answering any questions than that. She just wanted a moment alone with Damon so she asks Elena to leave and after a few seconds pass she does and Alyssa turns to Damon when she's gone.
She opens up the vial again and starts feeding him more of Klaus's blood slowly. "You know all that stuff you said to Elena, you don't know how many times I wish you would say that to me. Look at me the way you do her. I convinced myself that all those times that you tried to protect me, especially from myself, that maybe a part of you did care about me the same way I care about you. I know now that was wishful thinking." She stops feeding him once the vial gets halfway empty and caps the bottle. "For you, it'll only be her."
Color was starting to return to his cheeks and she knew he was on the way to healing. He was still weak and she wanted to keep it that way so he wouldn't be able to come after her. He sits up and turns to face her. "It wasn't until just now when I heard you tell her you love her I accepted it. I'm stubborn that way I guess." She reaches behind her and unclasp the necklace that he gave her. "I don't like to give up and you Damon Salvatore aren't going to be easy to give up or get over," She opens his hand and sits the necklace inside and then closes it. She leans in and kisses him gently lingering before pulling a way. She presses her palm to his cheek a tear runs down her cheek she smiles sadly. "Goodbye."
He reaches out to her but she's gone before his hand touches hers. She returns back to Alaric place to find Katherine gone and Stefan with a steak broken off in his chest as he looks up at her. The urge to help him bubbles to the surface but she fights it and turns to Klaus boredly she asks, "what happened?"
"He showed up after you left spouting some wild accusations I didn't like. Out of respect for our new found relationship, I thought I'd teach him the error of his ways by only nearly killing him. What of Damon?"
"He's fine. You're blood work like you said it would?" She looks around for Katherine but doesn't see her. "Where's Katherine?"
"Oh I sent her after you when you didn't failed to return. I suspect she won't be back. "
"You knew about the vervain?"
"I've been around a long time. I rarely get played for a fool. Besides, she won't get far. You'll help me see to that."
"Of course. What do we do about him?" She nods towards Stefan.
"Leave him, someone will discover him soon enough."
"Then can we go. The further we get away from this place the better." She says and walks towards the door.
"Not quite." She stops and turns around. "You see, I have a gift for you."
"Come here, sweetheart. Don't be afraid." A girl walks over from the corner of the window. "A little birdie told me you haven't eaten in days. You must be famished. Go on then." He pushes her towards Alyssa with a smile, "drink up."
Alyssa catches her, her eyes locked in on the blood dripping down her neck. Alyssa eyes changes and she yanks her towards her by her hair exposing her neck.
Stefan yells for her to stop before she kills her and she just locks eyes with him as she drinks the life out of her.
"Okay," Klaus says stopping her before she could kill her and she does. "Don't want to trigger that nasty little werewolf curse yet."
Alyssa drops her almost lifeless body to the ground and wipes her mouth with the back of her hand moving her jacket collar and revealing her neck in the process.
"You're necklace. It's gone."
She looks down at her chest where the necklace use to hang from before answering, "Damon gave it to me before I turned." She looks back at him. "Now that I'm leaving my old life behind, I thought I would give it back. Which reminds me, we're going to need to find a witch to replace it I'm not about to spend the rest of however many centuries stuck in the shadows. I did promise you we would be legendary."
Her response brought a smile to his face and he gestured towards the door, "shall we."
"Hell yes." She says as she walks out the door.
"Still no answer." Elena hangs up the phone as she meets Damon in the conservatory. He had spent the previous hour out looking for her since the moment he was well enough to stand on his feet after she handed him back his necklace. "Stefan either." She had called him to see if he had heard or seen Alyssa but only was able to get his voicemail. "You don't think she'd already?" Elena didn't finish the sentence. She didn't even want to think about the ominous way she had said goodbye to Damon and her taking off her necklace might have meant.
"Think Elena," he urges her trying and failing to stay calm. "Where else would she have gone? Where would she want to be?"
"I-I-I- don't know." Jeremy, Matt, and Tyler were the only ones she would have wanted to say goodbye to and none of them seen or heard from her. She wasn't at the grill or the quarry. Neither was she at Wickery bridge or the last place she saw Jenna alive. "The cemetery? It's where our parents are Jenna are buried. She might have gone have there."
He turns around and heads for the door by is stopped when Stefan walks in covered in blood. Elena rushes to his side and hugs him relieved that he's okay but that's when she spots the blood. "You're not going to find her there. She's gone."
"What do you mean she's gone?" Damon asks.
"Where did she go?" Asks Elena.
"With Klaus," Stefan looks at Damon, "he was the only one that could save you and in return for that she had to agree to leave with him. She said he has some kind of plain for her. It's why he didn't kill her during the sacrifice."
"And you're just telling me this now?" Damon nearly growls out.
"She didn't want you to know. She knew that you were going to try and do everything you could to save her and Klaus would have killed anyone of us to prove his point. She didn't want to lose anyone else."
"And now Klaus has her for god knows what and we have no way of stopping him. Or know where they're going or what his plans for her even is."
Stefan looks at Elena with an expression that tells her that he knows something but isn't sure how or what to tell her which prompts her to ask, "what is it Stefan?"
Stefan pauses a beat looking between his brother and girlfriend before answering, "Klaus had someone back to Alaric's apartment to feed off. Klaus stopped her before she could kill her."
"That's it?" Damon asks unimpressed. He thought he would have more information than that. "Klaus suddenly grew a conscious."
Elena could tell by the look in his eyes that that wasn't all of it, "what aren't you telling us Stefan?"
"When he stopped her he told her that he didn't want her to trigger the werewolf curse."
It takes a while for them to fully understand the words in association to Alyssa. When they did, Elena was the first to speak. "But that mean she's a…" she looks between Damon and Stefan, "How is that even possible?"
"I don't know. But Klaus thinks it is. He wouldn't have spared her if he didn't."
"Wait," Elena says as she finally starts putting some of the pieces together, "If he's right and she is a werewolf that means…"
Damon's brows knit together as he finishes her sentence. "He's going to try and turn into a hybrid."
Alyssa stares at the phone as Damon's name flashes across the screen for the tenth time tonight.
Klaus comes behind her peeking over her shoulder.
"Someone's anxious to get a hold of you."
"It's Damon."
"Then by all means, answer it."
She starts to put her phone in her back pocket. "I already said everything I needed to."
He holds out a hand, "may I."
She knows he's asking for the phone and she takes it out of her pocket and hands it to him and rounds the truck where two guys are loading a coffin inside of a sixteen wheeler that has four other coffins in it.
Klaus answers the phone, "Damon, glad to see you're alive and well. By now I'm sure you know you have me to thank for that. You're welcome."
"Klaus, where's Alyssa?"
Klaus looks back at her leaning against the car, "she can't come to the phone I'm afraid, I'd be happy to pass along a message."
"You got what you want. Let her go. You don't need her."
"On the contrary," he response starting back towards her as she watches him. "I found that she can be quite persuasive if needed. But you know all about her skills and talents don't you. I'm looking forward to putting that devious mind of hers to good use. Among other things, ciao for now." He hangs up and hands over her phone.
Klaus walks over to the driver's seat and she hops in the passenger. Klaus turns on the car and starts to drive out of the town. She rolls down the window and tosses her phone out by the sign that reads now leaving Mystic Falls.
