"Hey Fray! Hold up. We have things to discuss." Kaelie yelled at me across the courtyard.

"Yeah?" I replied agitatedly, knowing Jace was waiting for me by my locker. My parents were finally out of town and we had some things to talk about. I also had questions for Jace that I needed to ask him, things I couldn't keep pushing back anymore. I just hoped it wouldn't upset him.

"There's a cheer team meeting in ten minutes. Be there or you might as well give up your uniform. I'm serious Fray. Be there." She said sternly.

"Okay, I'll be there." I said, slightly worried. I wondered what their team meeting was for.

I quickly texted Jace telling him to go ahead to his class or whatever, as I had to go to the cheer team. I headed over to the gym department and saw the entire team through the glass doors, standing in a semi-circle, except for Isabelle who was standing in front of them waving her arms around like crazy. I opened the door and walked in. Everyone turned to look at me and Isabelle went silent and had a solemn expression on her face.

"What's going on guys?" I asked nervously.

"Why don't you tell us Clary?" Aline said spitefully.

"What are you talking about?"

"Well you haven't come to the past two cheerleading sessions and it's obvious why." Kaelie said, crossing her arms tightly across her chest.

"It's just two cheerleading sessions? And the only reason I missed them was because I was grounded this week! I know what you guys are thinking, it's Jace isn't it? You just want to blame another thing on him!" I yelled at them, getting angrier.

"It's not just that Clary. We told coach about how you and him have started dating and she didn't like it. So you have a choice, end it with him and stay happy on the cheerleading squad, or stay with him until he knocks you up and then decide to leave you, leaving you at home with a baby and no college degree. You do remember a scholarship is available for you? If you leave cheerleading, well then it's up to your parents to see that you get to college." Kaelie informed me, rather smugly.

I didn't know what to say. I felt like it was them against me, actually, that's exactly what it was. "So basically you're telling me to dump him or I'm getting kicked out of the team?"

"That's exactly what it means." Kaelie grinned. "Just means instead of co-captains, I'll just be the captain!"

I turned to Isabelle, who had been brooding silently on the edge. "That's not true is it?"

"It's what coach said." Isabelle muttered.

I clutched my bag tighter and felt the expected stares of my team members. They all expected me to drop Jace for them. I didn't know what to do. Cheerleading was going to help me get my scholarship. I could always figure out other ways right? What if I couldn't…?

"So?" Maia asked, raising an eyebrow.

"I-I-I don't know." I bit my lip nervously.

"Well you need to decide now." Kaelie said, point-blank.

It took me a few minutes but I came to a choice. "I'll hand in my uniform this afternoon then, I guess." The girls in the team started muttering inaudibly and Kaelie raised an eyebrow at me. Aline burst out laughing.

"Stupid choice Fray. You're going to regret that." Aline said. "You do realise he's just using you? He knows you see him as a kicked puppy and he's taking advantage of it. You are really dumb for falling for it. Oh well. It's your mistake. Maybe by senior year you'll have seen the light and you can re-join after some intense discussion, but for now you can get lost." The team was looking at me with disappointment. Some of these girls had become my good friends, some even like family and now they couldn't even look at me without discontent.

"Isabelle?" Wasn't she going to say anything? They were bad-mouthing her brother for God's sake! She refused to look at me. "Isabelle?" Again, she refused to look at me. What the hell was going on? Why was she ignoring me? Yesterday she was fine! "Fine! Ignore me! Pathetic." I muttered, as I brushed past her.

I walked out into the courtyard. The cold November air made me shiver and I suddenly felt so alone. My parents were annoyed with me, the team was upset with me and I felt like I had no one on my side. Except for Jace perhaps, but after the conversation I planned to have with him, I doubt I'd have him on my side either.

"Hey you! How did your cheer meeting go?" Jace asked as we walked into Biology.

"It was okay," I smiled at him briefly. "I quit."

"Wait, what? Why did you quit?" He asked, particularly startled.

"Just couldn't do it anymore. It's okay Jace." I told him softly.

"But you've been doing it for ages. You love it!" He looked very confused now.

"Yeah, well. That time has passed now, seriously it's okay!" I told him sincerely.

"Okay Clary." He smiled at me.

"Jace, do you remember ever talking before this month? Like before last year?" I asked nervously.

"Erm, nope. Not really. Why? Do you?" He asked.

"No, I was just wondering." I said quickly.

"Oh okay!" Jace said, moving to his seat swiftly.

The period passed quickly. As soon as the bell rang I walked out as quickly as possible. I saw Jace's confused stare, but I ignored it and went to the girl's toilet instead of my next class. I locked myself in a stall and sat there for a good twenty minutes wondering what the hell was wrong with my life right now. I knew secrets about my boyfriend even that he didn't know about himself and I wasn't sure who my friends were anymore. I didn't know why but I just couldn't be around Jace right now. I was at a point in life where I had no idea where I was heading. I had no idea how things were going to end up in the future and I was so scared. Suddenly I remembered someone who was definitely my friend, someone who would always be my friend. I pulled out my phone and texted him.

You busy? – Clary

Just chillaxing. I have a free period. What's up?

Not much. Just need you. Meet me outside school. – Clary

On my way!

I quickly wiped the tears I hadn't realised were trickling down my cheeks and looked at myself in the mirror. My eyes were normal except for my nose which was slightly red at the tip. I quickly ran my fingers through my hair and splashed some cold water on my face.

I slipped past the reception and left the school and saw my hero sitting across the school on a brick wall, with his floppy brown hair and cheesy smile.

"Simon." I grinned at him and shook my hand in his head.

"What's up Fray? I know when you're upset!" Simon exclaimed.

"Just having a crappy day I guess. I quit cheerleading." I told him, miserably.

"Why?!" He yelled.

I then began to explain to him about what happened this morning with the cheerleading squad and how Isabelle had been acting. Simon was shocked to say the least. He couldn't come up with a reason as to why she would suddenly be like that either. He said he would try to talk to her. I guess that would help at least. We decided to grab some milkshakes and fries. Simon was just being Simon and made me laugh till I was snorting out milkshake. I wasn't feeling so good so I decided to go home; Simon walked me back to my house and then headed back to school to finish his classes. I checked my phone once I laid down on my bed and saw that I had five texts from Jace and one from Isabelle.

Hey! Are you okay? – Jace

Where are you? You're not in class? – Jace

I'm getting worried! You were upset earlier right? I had a feeling you might have been! – Jace

Baby where are you? – Jace

If you don't want to talk could you at least send me a blank text? So I know you're safe? – Jace

Sorry – Isabelle

Jace's texts made my heart hurt and Isabelle's just confused me. I didn't understand her behaviour today and I didn't blame Jace for being confused as he had no idea what was really going on. I needed to talk to him as soon as possible.

I decided to head back to school to talk to Jace after school. It's the least I could do. He didn't deserve to feel confused when he had no idea what he did.

Just needed a break, coming back to school to see you! xx – Clary

...

I took a nap for a few hours and then woke up to go meet Jace. I checked my phone and saw that I had no reply from Jace. He was probably too busy to check his phone because of his classes. I freshened up and decided to walk back to school to think about what I was going to say to Jace. Once I reached school I realised I needed to ask him about that night I saw him with his punching bag, and I needed to know things about what happened with Jonathan. I needed to know if he remembered the night he came to me for help with a blood covered Jonathan in his arms.

Students were pouring out of the school doors and rang Jace's phone to find out where he was put he didn't answer. After ten minutes the school lot had emptied out so I wandered inside to find him. I walked through the hallways and what I saw would be something I would never forget. Kaelie had Jace up against a wall and she was all up in his face, touching his chest.

"What do you want?" He asked her, frustrated.

"I want you." She said seductively, biting her lips.

"You never wanted me before?" Jace asked, raising his eyebrow. "This has nothing to do with the fact that Clary is my girlfriend, right?"

"Oh of course not." Kaelie said, batting her eyelashes innocently.

She touched his lips with her thumb and fingered the lip piercing there. "This is so pretty." She purred.

He slid his head to the side to stop her fingers from touching her mouth. Seeing her close to him was making me feel an achy pain in my chest. I didn't see him pushing her away either. She leaned in closer to him and he didn't move either. She angled her face into kiss him and he still hadn't moved. She pressed her lips against his and he still hadn't moved. She parted her mouth to press deeper and still he hadn't moved. It's like watching a train wreck, you know it's going to end up bad, but you just cannot look away. He opened his mouth against hers as she leaned her body against his, but instead of kissing her, he bit down softly on her bottom lip. She gasped and then moaned, but then he bit down harder. Way harder. She screamed and fell backwards, jumping around. He had bit her. She was screaming and her lip was bleeding, lip was dripping down her chin and onto her cheerleading outfit.

"Stay away from me." He growled at her, heading in my direction.

His eyes widened when he saw me standing there. He opened his mouth to say something but I beat him to it.

"Oh please, don't let me interrupt, please carry on with your kinky biting make out session!" I yelled at them and then ran off.

"Wait Clary! Wait!" Jace said, running after me.

"What?!" I yelled at him.

"I'm sorry okay! That isn't what it looked like. I didn't want to kiss her! I just wanted to give her a taste of her own medicine." He said anxiously.

"That doesn't give you the right to kiss her!" I yelled at him angrily.

"I didn't really kiss her!" He argued.

"Oh shut up!" I yelled at him.

"C'mon Clary! You can trust me!" he furiously ran his hands through his hair.

"Oh really? Tell me this then! Why were you punching that bag so hard two years ago? Why did you tell me not to tell anyone?" I said in one quick rush of a breath.

"Huh?" Jace asked, twisting his face in a confused expression.

"That day two years ago. You were really angry and beating down a punching bag while screaming 'fuck' like you were crazy. Then you told me not to tell anyone when I saw you. Do you remember?" I asked.

He twisted his lips and furrowed his eyebrows, trying to remember. Then his eyes widened and his mouth parted in shock. He remembered. "I remember."

"Can you tell me what that was about?" I asked, nervously.

"No. No I can't, I'm sorry Clary." He whispered, his voice was hoarse.

"I see." I whispered softly. I slowly walked out the school building and the door slammed behind me.
