Kagome was struck with an idea. She turned to her maid. "Rin, are there any mice in the castle?"
"No," Rin answered, eyes downcast. "Just rats."
Kagome thought she knew what Rin meant.
Quiet and reserved, Rin didn't seem to particularly like working at the castle; it was why Kagome had chosen her in the first place. Rin, however, didn't seem to like her, either. She thought it was because she was the woman there to marry Naraku and plump up his pockets with her dowry and kingdom. Kagome wanted to reassure her, but did not dare reveal her secrets.
