Deathblows
Reaction was one of her strong suits. She had always disliked that fact – being able to react, be passive unless driven by another's actions, instead of act according to her own wills and wants, but she was praising said reflexes now. He was left open – his fellows had fallen ages ago – and the demon was approaching fast. Too fast for him to dodge. She dispatched her foe with the ease of a seasoned warrior and ran to him. Her face fell as she soon realized that the last words he would hear from her would not be tender ones.
"Venus Love me chain!"
A flash of gold caught his eye as he too dispatched the creature before him. He turned – too late, he cursed – and saw the chain wrap around the oncoming creature.
"Venus!"
Reaction time was not one of his strong suits. He was a man of action, and ones with skills such as that followed him into battle. Today, was one day he wished he was well-versed in said skill. He was not fast enough to reach her before the beast she drew towards her – to protect him, he realized – impaled her on its clawed hand. It roared in triumph, but only for an instant as she snapped it's neck with her weapon. Both fell to the ground.
He ran to her and fell to his knees.
"Venus…"
She was already gone. The hole in her chest was proof.
With a shaky breath, he cradled her in his arms.
The battle raged on, but it all sounded hollow in his ears. All was lost…she was lost…
For the first time in his life, Kunzite wept.
