Katara felt like she'd slept on a rock. When Ty Lee had the curtains pulled back the morning sun was more unpleasant than usual.

"Morning! Isn't it such a beautiful day? I love mornings, the sunrise is so lovely and breakfast so yummy."

Katara didn't want to be rude, but she didn't feel like doing anything or seeing anyone at the moment. "Ty Lee if you don't mind I rather stay in bed a little longer."

"But breakfast will be served soon and everyone will be waiting."

"They can eat without me. I'm not that hungry."

Ty Lee stopped her prancing and came to Katara's side. "What's wrong? Your aura yesterday was warm but now that I'm paying attention it's really dark."

Katara debated what to say. Should she tell Ty Lee everything and what was there to tell? Ty Lee would probably be happy that her childhood friend had reunited with Prince Zuko.

"Katara, if you don't want to tell me just know I'm always her for you. Suki too and Iroh are here for you, and Zuko as well."

Katara cringed and closed her eyes when Zuko was mentioned. All she could see and feel was his kiss and then all she could see was Mai kissing him. "I will be alright I just don't feel well."

Ty Lee's mouth set deeper into a frown. She thought about getting Suki and if that didn't work maybe Zuko. "Alright, I will leave you alone." She left Katara's bedside and lightly closed the door behind her, but she wasn't done. Although she said she would leave her be, it didn't mean she wouldn't get help.

She walked down the halls and turned several corners to get to Zuko's room.

"Zuko?" Suki had been talking to him, yet he never responded, "Prince Zuko!"

"Huh? Suki, you said something?"

Suki stood up for where she sat at the edge of the bed. She had been talking to him the entire time he had been preparing for breakfast. "Zuko is something wrong? You seem a little off. Even last night when I escorted you to your room you seemed off."

"Katara kissed me and I... I kissed her back."

Suki smiled widely and came to his side, but he did not look at her. "That's great news! When did this happen, last night?"

Zuko looked away from his dresser mirror and shook his head. He shoved Suki's hand off of his shoulder and walked to the middle of the room. "No, no on the ship. Our last night on the ship she came to my room saying she was willing to try, to give us a chance and then it happened. We kissed."

Suki walked around to meet his eyes. She wasn't sure why he was in a bad mood. "This entire time this was what you wanted right? Then why are you so upset about it. Katara is willing now isn't that a good thing?"

"No. I mean I thought so, but last night I talked to Mai."

"And?"

"She told me she loved me. It wasn't the first time I heard her say it, but when she told me that she had forgiven me and that she still loved me I realized that I never stopped loving her."

Suki's mouth dropped and her eyes widened. She raised a hand to her face and could only think about Katara. What about Katara?

"I know I sound like the lowest animal on the planet, but I do still love Mai. I can't change that, and if Mai and I have a chance..."

"But what about Katara? You just said the night before that you both talked and even kissed. She came all the way here to a foreign place to be with you. She left her home her family, everything she is accustomed to for you."

"I know, but this way Katara wouldn't have to force herself anymore. Not after what we accomplished with Republic City. She could go home and live her life how she wants. She wouldn't have to try anything! She would just be living."

Suki could see that, but she could understand that for Katara to say all those things and acted that way took a lot of courage. "I think you should talk to Katara about it. This marriage is no longer just your discussion, that changed the moment she decided she would give it her all, so this should be a decision you make together.

She was right, Zuko knew that and couldn't believe he didn't think of it that way. "I guess I sound pretty selfish just then."

"Yeah, you did, but I would guess because you were overwhelmed with it all."

"Um, Price Zuko?" There was a knock at the door and the Ty Lee stuck her head in, "Am I interrupting anything?"

"No, what is it?"

"Ty Lee, aren't you supposed to be with Katara?" Suki asked.

"That's why I'm still here. Katara is still in bed and said she didn't feel well."

Suki looked to Zuko with pleading eyes.

"I will go check on her. You guys go and tell them to star without us."

"Yes, Prince Zuko."

Katara could hear him before he opened the door.

"Katara?"

She felt like a child as she pulled the blanket to hide her face, but she didn't want to see him. She didn't want him to see her.

"Katara it's me. Ty Lee told me you weren't feeling well."

"Go away. I'm fine."

Zuko closed the door behind him and walked to the bedside. Was Katara upset with him? "Katara what's wrong let me help you." He reached out his hand to touch her head. It was met with a quick slap.

"Don't touch me!" Katara was sitting up now with no blankets to hide her anger, her hurt. She faced him and allowed him to see what he caused. "Don't ever touch me again."

"Katara what is wrong? What did I do?"

"I heard everything Zuko. Your ex-girlfriend walks in the room and suddenly I am easily thrown away."

She heard, of course, she heard. Zuko thought of the many times things in his life didn't go as planned. "Katara I am not throwing you away."

"But you love her right?"

"Mai, Mai would always be special to me."

"That's not what I am asking here Zuko. You do lover her, right?"

Zuko sighed and nodded, "Yes, yes I do."

"Then there is nothing more you need to say."

"Yes, there is! Katara don't turn away from me" He reached out and touched her shoulder, but she shrugged it away.

"I said don't touch me!" There was a vase of flowers by her bed. With the flip of her wrist, Katara bent the water from it into Zuko's face.

He backed off and angrily whipped his face with his sleeve. "Fine then just listen to me! After we got off the boat I was informed that our marriage was not necessary anymore."

"How convenient."

"I'm serious! What we did in Yu Dao, the new city will represent everything that our marriage stood for. You told me the other night that you would try, but you don't have to anymore. You are no longer being forced to marry me. Katara you are free, free to go home to your family."

Katara still had not turned to look at Zuko. She didn't want to see him, she didn't want to see the joy that might be on his face from the annulment. Yes, at first she felt like she was being forced to do this. Forget her feelings, this was for the betterment of the world, but now she liked Zuko more than she still cared to admit. "I guess you already decided."

"No, Katara that wasn't what I was..."

"It's fine, I miss my family more than you would ever know. The day before your ships took me, my father and brother had just returned. I had not seen them in years and as soon as I said hello I had to say goodbye. It would be nice to be surrounded by people who love me, I almost forgot what that was like."

"Katara, I'm sorry."

"Don't be. Have someone send a message to the Southern Water Tribe, because I am taking the first boat out of here."

The end.
