Shitei-ken: Hello

Kanra: Heeeeeey, it's you! (≧∇≦)/ Finally decided to come to this chatroom huh?

Kanra: Welcome!

Shitei-ken: Thanks Kanra-san! I've been meaning to for a while since Hachimen-san mentioned it

[PRIVATE CHAT]

Shitei-ken: Izaya-san, could you tell me if Roppi-san is alright?

Shitei-ken: He told me there was an operation happening last night, and he hasn't contacted me afterwards. I was worried something happened.

Kanra: He's been out of touch for one night and you're worried?

Kanra: Haha! You're too protective Tsukishima-kun.

Kanra: Last I checked he was fine. He wasn't too hurt after the fight.

Shitei-ken: Fight?! What fight? He was hurt?!

Kanra: Ah…oops. I didn't say anything. Who said anything about a fight?

Shitei-ken: Izaya-san!

Kanra: Oh, alright. He fought Yodogiri Masaru, and won. The operation was a success. He had a bruise or two, but that's it.

Kanra: Something like that wouldn't keep him down.

Shitei-ken: Okay… He must've been too tired to reply after a fight. Is he asleep?

Kanra: No…he was gone this morning before I woke up. He left a note saying he'll be out today, taking the day off.

Shitei-ken: I see…

Shitei-ken: Ah! He sent me a message.

Kanra: Don't tell him you're chatting with me!

Shitei-ken: Oh…I already told him.

Shitei-ken: Lol, you two are so alike. He just asked me not to tell you that I was talking with him.

Kanra: Why that little….

Shitei-ken: Did something happen between you two?

Kanra: No.

Shitei-ken: Suspicious…

Kanra: I'm telling you nothing happened!

Shitei-ken: You might as well tell me. Roppi-san will tell me about it anyway. You should probably say your side first, before Roppi's side of the story colors my opinion of the matter.

Shitei-ken: I'll admit I'm pretty biased. Haha ^^;

Kanra: …You're surprisingly crafty.

Kanra: Fine. I doesn't matter either way, because it was nothing.

Kanra: Last night, we had a rendezvous location in case we split up. It just so happens that Shizu-chan was there. I warned Roppi not to come. But he showed up anyway. So I had to distract him.

Kanra: That's it.

Shitei-ken: That doesn't explain why Roppi-san would avoid you. Did something happen when you distracted him?

Kanra:…

Shitei-ken: Never mind Roppi-san just told me. I get it now.

Kanra: DON'T GET THE WRONG IDEA! I had to kiss Shizuo so that idiot could run away without getting noticed! It didn't mean anything!

Shitei-ken:...I'm really….very sorry.

Kanra:…?

Shitei-ken: You sounded like you didn't want to talk about it, so I tried to take the pressure off by pretending Roppi told me, and then try to change the subject.

Shitei-ken: I didn't think you'd confess like that.

Izaya's face hit the desk. Was this the wrath of karma? Has all the times he messed with others come back to bite him in such a way to make the past twenty four hours the most embarrassing ones of his life?

[PRIVATE CHAT]

Shitei-ken: Was Roppi-san in shock?

Kanra: Probably. It was his fault anyway, he forced my hand, and now he's all pissed about it. Even though it was nothing.

Shitei-ken: I'm sure he's not pissed at you, it's probably awkward for him to face you after that. You don't have to worry.

Kanra: I'm not worried.

Kanra: You assume too much Tsukishima-kun. You don't know me as well as you know Roppi-chan.

Shitei-ken: I'm sorry I didn't mean to say something rude. You're right, I don't know you as well as Roppi-kun. But I will make an effort to know you better. You're a person Roppi-san respects after all.

Kanra: He…respects me?

Shitei-ken: Please don't tell him I told you! But yes, very much so. That's why I know after a little time to himself, he should be ready to face you. It's one thing to know how you feel about Heiwajima Shizuo, and another to see it in person after all.

Kanra: I thought I told you it was nothing. A kiss doesn't mean I'm in love, cherry boy.

Shitei-ken: Yes, but you did choose to kiss him Izaya-san. When you could have chosen to do a number of other things to distract him.

Kanra: I KNOW THAT DAMMIT. Stop rubbing it in!

Shitei-ken: And who said anything about love, Izaya-san? You bought it up yourself just now, you know. (´꒳`∗)

Kanra:…are you trying to piss me off?

Roppi wasn't avoiding Izaya. Honestly. He just happened to get up earlier than him and coincidentally left the house as he heard him come downstairs.

It's just that the whole situation was stupid. He knew fully well what happened last night between Izaya and Shizuo and why. He knew Izaya was giving him an opportunity to get away unnoticed. And kissing was his choice of distraction. Strange enough preference on its own, but that didn't explain why he and Shizuo continued to kiss long after he was out of sight. Yes, he stuck around for almost five minutes afterwards, until the urge to run away overcame him.

'Seriously, those two. What did they think they're doing in public.'

He didn't understand what he was feeling. So he needed to sort it out himself. And the last thing he wanted to do was face Izaya like he was.

This is jealously isn't it? What an ugly feeling.

This whole time, he's been self-conscious every time he spoke with Shizuo. What did he think of him? Would he accept him as well if he knew he wasn't Izaya? Would he want to get to know him better? He'd been plagued with these questions for a long time. And it's because all Shizuo ever seems to ask him about was about Izaya, because his "other self" would know him best. It was frustrating, because all Roppi wanted was to get to know Shizuo better, but Shizuo himself didn't know who he was at all.

He thought a walk would help him vent his frustration, but instead he got caught in the middle of-

"Are you listening Izayan? You look lost in thought. Could it be, you're considering the wonderful possibilities of BL?"

"Karisawa-san! Quit shoving BL down other people's throats! We're trying to show him the appeal of anime, not scare him away! Look how uncomfortable you've made him!"

"Rude! The love between men is beautiful and needs to be shared! Iza-Iza loves all and knows that right?

"Uh…yeah, right." Roppi said with an understanding nod, even though he didn't understand at all. How he got in this situation was confusing enough in the first place. They roped him into the conversation so suddenly; he didn't have much time to process it.

He ran into Kadota's gang as he walked around the underground mall. The only safe place to be was indoors now that the streets have gotten even worse. Gangs were starting to fight in plain sight. He barely managed to avoid a couple of teens who were convinced Izaya was the one causing the territory wars, and weren't too happy about it.

Roppi was sure it was no coincidence that these fights escalated tenfold since yesterday, when they caught Masaru. They were behind it, he was sure about that. If the Yodogiri group's plan was trying to make Ikebukuro crumble under chaos, it was well underway.

"Oy, seriously you two. Give him a break." Kadota finally spoke up, "Izaya's obviously had a bad day. We all have."

"Yeah, it's really turning into hell out there." Togusa remarked, "At this rate, it won't be any different from a real war. What are the cops in this town even doing?"

Kadota shrugged, "Well, it's not their fault. The best they can do is arrest the gang members overnight, and that's if they catch them. But even then, they can't detain them for long just for fighting. They're just going to go out again and cause another riot. And they can't keep track of repeated offenders anymore because there are too many cases and not enough people to handle them."

"I heard they can't even put them in the same cells either since they all end up fighting in there too." Roppi added. "It's a real problem. But these kids will all just get tired and stop eventually."

Togusa snorted, "The sooner the better."

"And why are you out wandering alone Izaya?" Kadota asked.

"What? Am I not allowed?"

"No, especially with the state of things. We're all together, and less of a target, you on the other hand would've gotten caught up in some trouble. At least travel with a group, it's safer."

As thrilling as this conversation was, Roppi was starting to run out of interest and decided it was about time to tap out. He let out an exaggerated sigh, "Whatever you say, Deka-chin*"

Kadota's eyebrows shot up "Deka-!?"

"Chin?" The other three chorused.

The van gang (sans Kadota) exploded into a fit of giggles. Walker's cheeks puffed out comically as he slapped his hand over his mouth, Erika squealed loudly with a series of cackles following, and Togusa was caught between feeling sorry for Kadota and laughing at his expense; he ended up choosing the latter.

Kadota's palm collided with his face, barely hiding his red, red cheeks. "You…"

Roppi blinked, "Ah, I messed it up."

"Don't 'ah' me! Don't go messing up nicknames you created! On top of that, you made a worse one!"

Walker clapped his hand on Kadota's shoulder, "Pfft….ain't that great Kadota-san? To have such a flattering nickname?"

Erika wipes her eyes, "Nee~ Dota-chin, does Iza-Iza call you that when we're not around? Could it be you two are…like that? Kyaaaa! This is BL! Real life BL! I'm glad I was born in this world!"

"No! Of course not! He's just messing around, aren't you Iza…ya?" Kadota realized that the informant disappeared, and was nowhere to be seen.

He blinked before realizing Izaya just ditched him in an awkward situation to explain by himself. Probably causing more misunderstandings with his abrupt departure.

"Damn it, Izaya!"

Roppi snorted as he heard Kadota yell in the distance. Messing with people was surprisingly good stress relief. Izaya's bad habits must be infectious. But the man wasn't wrong about it being fun.

To be perfectly honest, he was starting to get sick of acting like Izaya all the time. Forcing himself to make small talk with humans he didn't know, nor cared about, was getting really annoying. What's the big deal if he revealed himself, maybe not as an artificial human, but just as another human that looked like Izaya. Yodogiri already knew there was two of them, and so did that Tsukumoya person. Would it really affect them badly if more people knew?

He'd have to talk to Izaya about it if anything. If he agreed, then maybe…Shizuo could get to know the real him.

Roppi frowned. He unconsciously remembered why he needed a distraction in the first place. And the fact it still bothered him upset him more. He thought he would've been able to cool off by now, but clearly this wasn't the type of problem he'd get over by himself.

He needed Tsukishima.

That guy always knew what to say to calm him down, or cheer him up. It's a wonder how he got by as long as he did without him. Maybe just once, he should show him his appreciation. Like get him a gift or something.

As the thought crossed his mind, a manikin on a display caught his eye. He paused in front of the store window as he gazed at it. His eyes locked onto the white scarf wrapped daintily around its neck. White was a color he would associate with Tsuki, as naïve and pure as he was. After examining it for a while, he decided that he liked it. He could buy it as a gift for Tsuki. Plus, the mental image of the scarf wrapped around his monitor greatly amused him.

"I might as well spend my money on something other than food once in a while..." he mused to himself. His ponderings were interrupted by a sudden shrill call.

"ONIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII-CHAAAANNN!"

A sudden blur collided into him, feet first. Roppi grunted as his breath was knocked out of him and he was flung on to his back. His head stung from where his head collided with the sidewalk. It took him a second to realize that there was an unfamiliar weight sitting on him. He blinked in confusion at the bespectacled young girl who straddled his chest, grinning deviously. Another girl came up from the direction the first one tackled him from and sat down behind her on Roppi's stomach.

"We found you! You couldn't hide from us forever Iza-nii!"

"Prisoner" the second girl whispered, resting her chin on the other girl's shoulder.

"Um…"

These two girls must be Izaya's siblings. The raven hair, and crimson eyes looked very much like his. Izaya briefly mentioned that he had two little sisters, but this is the first time meeting them. Though, he wouldn't exactly say that this was a good first impression.

"Aren't you happy to see us?"

Roppi's eyebrow twitched, "Ecstatic. Get off"

It was like the city purposely wouldn't let him be alone when he needed it. Any other person would've thought that was sweet, but he really was not in the mood.

The girls got off him. Roppi sat up and noticed another figure joined them.

Roppi's eyes widened, "Celty-san?"

Celty offered him a hand to help him up. He accepted it and straightened up, dusting himself off.

"Iza-nii, we ran into Celty-san and she's showing us around, isn't that nice? She was worried we'd get jumped by delinquents, even though I said I could handle it. But it's a win-win anyway! We've wanted to meet the famous Black Rider since forever! Right Kuru-nee?"

"…Affirmative…"

The loud one continued to gush about their day, while the quieter one occasionally added her own input with limited words. Roppi exasperatedly tried to get away, but they simply followed. Turns out he didn't even need to listen, Mairu and Kururi seemed like they were used to it. He went into the store he spotted earlier, intent to buy Tsuki's gift. Celty tapped his arm and lifted her PDA. She angled it so that he was the only one who could see.

[You're Roppi aren't you? How've you been?]

"Alright I guess. We've managed to catch that guy from the photo you helped us identify. Thanks for that."

Celty waved him off, [I didn't really do anything. I'm just glad you got what you were looking for.]

Roppi nodded, smiling slightly as he bought the scarf.

"Eeeeeeh, Iza-nii is buying a scarf? Are you trying to be fashionable? Wearing a scarf and a coat in this weather? Is that really okay to go that far to stay trendy? That's no good big bro, you got to act your age, don't let your midlife crisis get to you. What are you going to do next, buy a bunch of cats because you're getting lonely?"

"Here, 2000 yen. Clam it."

Mairu's eyes sparkled, "Pleasure doing business with you~!"

Roppi scowled. It was rare for him to be this harassed by humans when he left the apartment. At this rate, he wasn't going to get a moment to himself by the time he was planning on going home.

[Did you have a bad day? Your aura seems a little riled up.]

Roppi scoffed, "That's one way to put it."

On the bright side, he was happy he ran into Celty. Her presence was refreshing, and was never too intrusive.

[Well, I might have something in mind that will help. Are you free this evening?]

To be completely honest, Shizuo hadn't felt this at ease in the longest time. To finally feel free from his muddled thoughts was disorienting, sure, but in a liberating way. It was like a fog had lifted and everything was clear again. He felt more like his old self. But reborn. Like whatever that fire bird was called.

If he knew kissing Izaya would've fixed all his problems, then he would've done it sooner.

He would've thought kissing the one he hated for so long would be even more confusing. But he didn't count on it feeling…right. Actions spoke louder to Shizuo more than logic. If it felt right, then it's right. Whatever the reason was for it feeling right, he wouldn't worry about that for now. He was finally free from being stuck in his thoughts, so he was going to enjoy it while it lasted.

However, now his thoughts were now replaced by images of Izaya's blushing face and swollen red lips accompanied with the sounds of his quiet gasps and sighs. He had yet to decide whether this turn of events was a good or bad thing. No. Not bad. Definitely not bad.

As Shizuo continued to walk leisurely to where he was meeting his brother for lunch, Shinra spotted him.

He called out to him, waving at him from across the street. But the blond wasn't paying any attention. The doctor pouted. He quickly glanced both ways of the road before running across the street.

"Shizuo! Heeey! Wait up!"

He caught up fairly quickly, but the blond still hadn't acknowledged him. It was then he realized his friend looked like he was lost in thought. Odd.

"Heey! Shizuo! Earth to Shizuo!" Shinra waved his hand in front of his face. Shizuo just grunted and swatted his hand away as if it were a bug.

Shinra pouted again. Time to try a different approach (albeit one that might get him killed), "Oh look, it's Izaya!"

Shizuo straightened up instantly and looked around, trying to find him. When he couldn't, he looked to Shinra, "Where?"

His friend stared at him, "…that was an interesting reaction. Where's the angry 'IZAAAYAA!'?" he asked while growling like a bear.

Shizuo flicked his friend's forehead, unexpectedly flinging him off his feet.

The doctor landed in an ungraceful heap, clutching his forehead, "Oww! Too much force!"

Shizuo blinked and looked at his fingers, "Oh. Uh, sorry."

Shinra frowned picking himself up, "What were you thinking about anyway? I've been trying to get your attention for a while now."

Before Shizuo could attempt to deflect the question Shinra waved it off. "Whatever, that doesn't matter. Guess what? This morning Celty decided to cook me a romantic dinner! For me! Isn't that exciting? You should've seen her, she looked so cute getting all flustered with the recipe printouts in her black apron. Black suits her so well don't you think? Anyway, in the end she called over a bunch of her other female friends and they started helping her out. Harima Mika and Sonohara Anri, I think you may have met at least one of the- GWUAHH!"

Shizuo flicked his forehead again, less playful than before. Shizuo frowned hard, and a vein throbbed at his temple.

Shinra crouched on the ground clutching his head in pain, "Aaahh! Stop that! Those flicks will cave my skull in!"

"Whose fault is that? You're talking a mile a minute, bringing up useless things, and people's names I don't know. If you have something to say, say it in two sentences or less!"

Shinra pouted, rubbing the red beginnings of a bruise on his forehead, "Well, in the end we've decided to host a hot pot party instead. We're inviting all our friends, naturally you're invited too."

Shizuo looked thoughtful, "Hot pot huh? Doesn't sound too bad. I'll be there."

Shinra beamed, "Great! Just swing by around dinner time, alright? See you!" The enthusiastic doctor waved farewell and ran off.

Shizuo shoved his hands in his pockets and continued on his way. He didn't want to keep his brother waiting. It's been a while since they've had a lunch together, so he'd hate to be late.

After a long conversation with Tsukishima, Izaya finally gave up and logged off.

That conversation completely revolved around Shizuo, and even after he logged off, his head was still stuck on him.

That was probably Tsukishima's goal anyway. That little bastard.

He slapped his laptop closed, and leaned back into his couch, staring blankly at the wall across from him. Izaya hadn't even let himself process last night's events yet. 'Avoiding' would be the proper term. But he let himself think about it now. It happened too suddenly. Yet, the abruptness of it was nice. It didn't give him a chance to react, or avoid it. And Izaya was a little grateful for that.

He didn't pin the dumb brute to be such a good kisser either. For the life of him, he wouldn't have been able to pinpoint what it was about that kiss that made it all feel so good.

It could have been the way he nibbled softly on his lips. Or maybe the feeling when his hands slid down his back, then gripped onto his hips. Maybe the part when he pressed him against the cool vending machine glass, trapping him with his hot body. The contrast in temperatures did funny things to his whole body. He was definitely feeling goose bumps by then. Or was it the part when he swiped his tongue into his mouth? God, it felt like a feverish heat came over him. His touches, his mouth, everything felt like it could burn him. Shizu-chan was always like that though. He'd make Izaya's body burn even with just a look. But to be touched by him for the first time, it was like he finally melted.

'Ah, shit.'

Izaya felt his cheeks grow warm the more he thought about it. And then, cold suddenly. Izaya hissed, and flinched away as he felt something chilly press against his cheek. He turned to see Roppi standing behind the couch, offering him a cold soda. He didn't even hear him come in.

"What the hell…you surprised me" Izaya muttered as he took the soda. He tried to will his blush away, hoping that it wouldn't be obvious what he was thinking about.

"You were full of openings, I couldn't resist"

"What are you, a samurai?" he muttered as he accepted the drink.

"Been inside all day?" Roppi asked.

"Yeah," The can popped open with a small hiss, "I expected the Yodogiri group to make a move by now. They're probably waiting for a moment to strike back. Doesn't matter, gives us more time to prepare."

His roommate was silent for a beat. He shuffled over to the adjacent armchair, dropping a clothing store bag to the side as he sat on the armrest (he was pretty shocked to see he bought something other than food). He didn't seem to upset at the moment like Izaya was expecting.

Then Roppi spoke, "I ran into your sisters earlier. Delightful little brats by the way."

Izaya winced, "My condolences."

Roppi snorted. "Celty took them back to her apartment afterwards. Apparently, they are preparing for a hot pot party this evening. She asked me to come."

"How sweet of them to extend the invitation." Izaya smirked bitterly. For as long as he knew them, He's never received a party invitation from Shinra and Celty, "You don't have to ask for permission you know, you can go" he responded waving his hand carelessly.

"And stay in a cramped space filled with humans on my day off? No thanks." Roppi said. "You go."

Izaya paused and shot him a look, "Hah?"

"I don't want to. So you go for me."

"…Why should I go?"

"Think of it as payback for all the times I had to impersonate you and go places."

"Hey, I paid you for that, don't go acting like a forced you."

"Fine. Here, go to the party for me." Roppi pulled a huge wad of cash out of his wallet. Izaya suspected he didn't spend much of the money he was earning, but didn't realize it was to this extent.

"….Alright. But why do you want me to go so bad?"

Roppi shrugged and pointedly looked away. "I dunno, you'd probably enjoy it more than I would. And Shizuo will probably show up there so…"

Izaya raised an eyebrow. "Why do you think I'd want to go if Shizu-chan is there?"

"Because you have feelings for Shizuo and that playing dumb act is getting really old."

Izaya smirked harshly, and didn't speak right away, knowing his annoyance would probably seep into his words. "I know after what you saw last night you would be confused, and I understand why you may think that, but I assure you, Roppi-chan, I do not-"

"Don't." he snapped before he finished. "Just stop lying. Stop lying to me, and stop lying to yourself. It's embarrassing."

"You don't understand the first thing about what you're saying Roppi-chan. There is a lot of messy history that you can't see. He's a nuisance to me, and I am to him."

Izaya's eyes bore into Roppi's. He could see his calm façade break down in his eyes. The ruby red seemed to spark, not unlike Shizuo's blazing hazel when he was mad. Roppi knew he would be, seeing that he was prodding at what he presumed was a sensitive subject. But he was sure he was just as, if not more pissed because he was just about done with Izaya's bullshit.

"That's clearly changed."

"Oh, good. You've noticed. And do you know what changed it?"

Roppi faltered, not expecting the question. Regardless, Izaya wasn't in the mood to wait for an answer, "You. He met you."

Roppi's heart rate quickened, but he willed it down, refusing to let his hopes get up. "So I was a conveniently placed device to stop the both of your never ending cycle of fighting. Great, now you can Shizuo can live happily ever after. What's your point?"

Izaya sneered at him, "You seem to be a little too thick to get it, I can see it working out between you and Shizu-chan. My point is it's because of you that Shizu-chan had a change of heart. I didn't get to him. You did."

"What does that matter? You have feelings for him, and he is starting to like you too." Roppi growled, getting increasingly frustrated with Izaya's stubbornness. He could feel his own jealously bubble up as he admitted what he believed out loud. Izaya was letting his own pride get in the way from acknowledging his own feelings and move on to better things with Shizuo. Something he wouldn't get to do.

Izaya stood up as well, "I don't have feelings for him. Why is it so hard for you to understand?"

Maybe it was because he didn't properly get to walk off his irritation, maybe it was because he was badgered by humans all day, or maybe the whole situation with Izaya and Shizuo has been building up stress since the beginning and he finally had enough. Whatever it was, Roppi couldn't stop himself from throwing a punch at Izaya.

He felt more than saw Roppi's fist sink into his stomach. Izaya's breath was knocked out of his lungs has he flew back and hit the floor several feet away.

"You're still saying that?" Roppi's voice wavered between livid and wounded, "Why is it so hard for you to accept? You have feelings for him, and you probably have for a long time."

Izaya wheezed as he clutched his bruising stomach and looked up at his double's face. As he guessed by his tone, Roppi was both broken and angry. He didn't blame him. He felt the same way. "Can you...guh…blame me? He's never given me a second glance, until you showed up" he said between gasps "It doesn't matter what I feel. It's not up to me or you who Shizu-chan chooses."

Roppi threw one last glare over his shoulder and turned to the door. "Well, you got your damned second glance. Now stop being a fucking coward and make good use of it if you want him to choose you."

'As if he hasn't already' went unsaid.

He picked up his bag and left without another word, slamming the door shut behind him.

Luckily, he didn't visit Shingen's place yet. Or else storming out of the apartment without a place to go after would've been awkward. And Shingen happened to have something interesting set up for him when he got there.

"Ah, just in time. I think you should take a look at this, boy. Having some help would make things easier."

He led him into the living room where blueprints were strewn about, and four large cylindrical tanks. Roppi took a closer look at the papers, it seemed to be some type of large machine, but he had a feeling he knew what it was.

"The Nebula weapon?"

He could almost see Shingen smirking proudly under his mask, "The Awakusu-kai employed my services to tinker with it. They're expecting Yodogiri to make a move soon, so I'm tasked to disarm the bomb before he can get his hands on it. Care to help?" he asked lightly, as if he was asking him if he wanted a cup of tea. "If you are available tomorrow morning of course. I'd ask a team from work to come in, but with Yodogiri involved, I can't easily lend my trust anymore."

Quirking a lip in amusement, he shrugged, "Yeah. Why not."

Shingen sat next to the tank . "Excellent. What we'll be doing is removing tanks just like this from the bomb. They provide energy for the weapon. To give you an idea of how strong these tanks are; each tank adds about 50 meters of blast radius. Dangerous right? Because of that, we'll remove them first and disassemble the rest of the weapon. I'm bringing a containment unit to transport the tanks safely to I'll show you how to remove these tanks from the main unit. There'll be eight of them, and each should take about half an hour to remove, and maybe half that time if you get the hang of it. But I wouldn't rush if I were you. One false move and it'll set off."

Roppi gulped. For some reason, this task felt more dangerous than any experiments he's been through. Maybe because Shingen hadn't made him explosive-proof, and he had a real chance of dying if he messed up.

"These are tanks I build for practice. They'll light up if you set them off. I perfected the removal technique right before you came. If you can manage to disarm it without problems at least 10 times, then you pass."

It was kind of exciting, especially with the sense of danger he hadn't felt in a while. He was completely focused on Shingen's demonstration and careful explanation. The first few attempts were frustrating and unsuccessful. He wanted to do it as fast, if not, faster than the doctor. But, he managed to successfully complete it after calming down and taking his time. It took him two hours.

Emilia, who came in while they were working finally spoke up, "Dinner is now approaching. Commence cooking? And notify Shinra and Celty-san of our absence for hotpot?"

Roppi held his hands up, "No, you guys don't have to do that. Go to the party."

"Nonsense, we can't just leave while you're here." Shingen said.

"It's fine, I'll practise with this thing, and keep Tsuki company."

"And food?" Emilia asked.

"I can feed myself"

Emilia and Shingen shared skeptical glances.

Roppi reddened. "What? I learned!"

"Are you sure?"

"Yes. Besides, I've been coming over daily, when's the last time Shinra and Celty had a party?"

They shared another look and nodded. Shingen patted his shoulder, "Alright. If you insist. Be sure to practice and we'll be back later on."

"We leave Tsuki in your care~!" Emilia said with a wink.

And the two left.

Naturally, Roppi made a beeline to Tsuki's room. He brought his bag along.

"Hey, Tsuki." He said as he sat down in front of his computer, "I brought you a gift."

Tsukishima blinked in surprise at his sudden appearance and what he said. [Eh? For me?]

Roppi smiled and pulled the scarf out, "It's not much, but I thought it would suit you. Maybe you can wrap it around your monitor or something."

Tsuki's lip wobbled as Roppi wrapped it around the base of the monitor. Then he gave him a heartwarming smile, [I'm so glad. I got a gift from Roppi-san. Thank you so much]

He had a small look of concentration and a white scarf formed around his neck. Roppi's eyes sparkled in interest. The digital environment Tsuki lived in looked awesome. By the looks of it, he could practically make anything he saw.

Tsuki adjusted the scarf around his neck, and nervously fiddled with it, [How does it look?]

Roppi coughed awkwardly, feeling a little embarrassed too, "It…looks good."

He felt a little proud at the small smile Tsuki gave then.

[That's good. A-Anyway, you didn't end up going to the party?]

Roppi rubbed the back of his neck. He forgot he messaged Tsuki about Celty's invite.

"I didn't feel like going, I've had enough socializing for one day. To be honest, I'm really getting sick of talking with humans. I think it's about time I asked Izaya if I can reveal myself as a long lost cousin or something."

Tsuki seemed to mull it over with a troubled look on his face. Yet responded in a supportive manner, [I don't see why you shouldn't ask at least… But are you sure you're sick of talking with humans? You've found it fun at times though, remember?]

"Yeah, but…"

[To be honest, I'm worried I'm enabling you to distance yourself from others.]

"Huh?"

[You've been coming over daily, and I am happy because I get to see you, but is it setting you back from improving your social development? Is that what's happening? You even gave up going to a gathering to be here with me.]

"Has Shingen been saying that?" Roppi said through clenched teeth. It certainly sounded like something he'd say.

[No! Not at all! I was just thinking]

"First of all, stop being hard on yourself, it was my decision, you shouldn't feel responsible for anything. Second, you're not an 'escape' from people, you are a person, and a dear friend to me. I consider spending time with you as socializing."

[I…o-oh…okay.] Tsuki seemed to be looking everywhere except directly at Roppi. [S-So I heard about yesterday's successful operation, you managed to beat Yodogiri Masaru?]

The raven frowned, "Right, you spoke with Izaya earlier didn't you? What else did he say?"

[He…told me about his kiss with Shizuo as well. I take it you weren't too happy about that.]

Was he that obvious? "If only Izaya was clear about his feelings for Shizuo from the beginning. He's always so roundabout with things like that. He says one thing, but he means something else. Yes, I know that's how he is, and sure, I had my suspicions, but it's another thing seeing it in person" he ranted. "So I told him off just before I left."

Tsukishima's face fell, and a look of dread crossed it, [Oh no…Roppi-san, what did you say?]

"Nothing…I just told him he should just go for Shizuo already if he wants him so bad. He kept denying it, so I punched him."

[Roppi-saaaan…] Tsukishima groaned as he pinched the bridge of his nose. It's the first time he's ever looked disappointed in Roppi and he hated it. [And after I promised you'd come around.]

"You what-?"

[Hachimenroppi-san,] he interrupted with a serious voice, [Lashing out at your friends won't help anyone! If you're feeling upset, you should be honest and say how you feel! You were accusing Izaya-san for the same thing, right?]

Uh oh, he used his full name. He never heard Tsuki speak so seriously before. But Roppi refused to be daunted, and pursed his lips stubbornly, "What I feel is not important right now."

[It's important to me. You said I'm your friend, right? And I also want to be someone who you can talk to freely. So please, tell me?]

Well, damn. What do you say to that? The truth, probably.

Roppi sighed in defeat, "Tsuki…I think I'm in trouble."

[What is it?]

"It's Shizuo, I don't know…I just…I can't…."

[…Can't stop thinking of him?]

Roppi looked up in disbelief, "…yeah, how did you…?"

Tsuki smiled gently, [I can tell a lot by just looking at you Roppi. I can also tell that you have strong feelings for Heiwajima-san]

"You can seriously…just by looking?" Roppi buried his face into his arms again, "I'm pathetic."

[You are not pathetic Roppi-san. It's normal for you to like someone you respect.]

"I don't want to feel like this!" Roppi exclaimed, "I've always been drawn to him, it's like I didn't even have a choice. And it won't go away, no matter how much I know he won't see me the same way. I'm not just saying that because he doesn't know who I am. It's because he…those two...Shizuo and Izaya…they only have eyes for each other…and they don't even know it because they're both morons."

[That's the first I've heard you speak ill of either of them.] Tsuki chuckled.

"It's the truth though." Roppi smirked. "Those two idiots should just die together since they love each other so much."

[Roppi-san…that's not very nice] he reprimanded.

The raven grumbled "I know…I'm just…This isn't fair, I shouldn't feel like this."

[You can't choose who you fall in love with Roppi-san. It's a force that's out of our hands.]

Roppi lifted his head and rested it on his crossed arms. His cheeks were slightly puffed out as he looked at his friend, "How did you become a love expert, you shut-in?"

Tsuki shoulder's lifted into a small shrug. [I don't know. I guess you can say I know what you're going through. So…you can talk to me about it.]

"Why do we have to come with you?" Kida grumbled, catching Saki's eye hoping she'd back him up. But she smiled happily. She was actually looking forward to the hot pot party.

"Why not, Kida-kun? You two did just get back after all, why not meet up with some friends?" Izaya smirked. "You should be thankful I'm bringing you along."

"But you're completely crashing the party. Roppi-san was the one who was invited. Now we just look like your accomplices."

"Like I said he didn't want to go, and he asked me nicely to go in his place. How could I refuse."

Kida let out an unconvinced hum. They rode up the elevator to Shinra and Celty's apartment.

"Who else is coming?"

Izaya pursed his lips, "I actually have no idea. I had no idea this thing was happening until Roppi-chan said told me. But if I were to guess, I'd say the idiot couple's close friends would all be invited. That would be Shinra's dad and his wife most likely, Dota-chin's group, apparently my sisters too, Anri-chan, maybe Shizu-chan…"

"Wait, Anri is coming? Then Mikado…?"

Izaya snorted, "Relax. If I had to venture a guess, Mikado isn't coming. He's been out of touch with everyone since yesterday. He didn't go online since then, and didn't go to school today. And coincidentally it's the same case with Aoba."

Kida's eyes narrowed, "What does that mean? Did he do something to Mikado?"

"Who knows. It's only been a day, maybe they just fell ill at the same time."

His assistant didn't look convinced.

"Well Anri-chan may know some more about it. I haven't been paying much attention with the whole Yadogiri thing. She's not exactly fond of me, I don't think she'd say anything if I asked. But you probably wouldn't go ask her yourself either, huh?"

"I…"

Saki put her hand on his arm. "He's your best friend right? Just talk to her and figure out what happened. I'm sure she's just as worried as you, talking with a friend will help both of you."

Kida bit his lip and nodded. "Yeah, I guess you're right."

Izaya smirked. Just a little push was all it took to make Kida take the first step to reconnecting with his friends. Concern was a strong motivator after all. His whole 'I'm a disgrace, I can't face my friends' routine was starting to get really boring anyway.

Regardless, Kida won't be kicking up a fuss about going to the party now.

They got to their designated floor and knocked on the couple's door. He could hear a muffled, 'Coming!' before the door swung open.

Shinra beamed at the newcomers, "Oh, Roppi! Along with Kida-kun and…?"

"Mikajima Saki, nice to meet you." Saki bowed.

"Celty-san said I could bring anyone along. And these two seemed interested." Izaya said, doing his best impression of Roppi's aloof mumble.

Shinra grinned, "Of course, come right inside."

The trio made their way to the living room where the others were.

As he expected, everyone he guessed would be invited was here. Kadota's gang, Shingen, Emilia, and Anri.

"Wow~! How fun this all looks. Anyone miss me?" Izaya announced, grabbing everyone's attention in the room.

Shinra snorted quietly, "Incredible, you pull off Izaya's character spot on! Even I can't tell sometimes," he complimented under his breath. "Alright you three, you can go on and sit where you like."

The informant internally patted himself on the back. Pretending to be someone else pretending to be him and convincing his closest friend of 13 years has to be some kind of accomplishment.

Izaya gravitated to the couch which was free, Kida and Saki followed.

He made himself comfortable and gave the room another once over. It seemed the older crowd sat at a separate table. Shingen and his wife sat with Kadota's group.

Kadota gave him a sour look then went back to drinking. The rest of the gang didn't seem as unfriendly, they gave him a nod or a wave. Karisawa gave a wink as well and jerked her head in Kadota's direction. Interesting. What was that about?

Izaya himself found he sat near the younger group's hot pot. His sisters were nowhere in sight, but Anri sat at the coffee table and Celty behind her on the chair. Anri's eyes were a little wide at the sight of Kida, who was avoiding eye contact.

Saki stood and crossed the room. She sat next to Anri and the boys heard her introduce herself.

Izaya smirked at her daring. This was exactly why she was a grade A assistant. She got the job done.

After the girls finished introductions, Saki beckoned a mortified Kida over. He hesitated, but walked over and sat next to Saki. The three of them began to talk, Saki leading the conversation.

Shinra joined Celty and they also began conversing with each other.

And just like that, Izaya was the odd man out. A predictable outcome.

But, he was at least expecting him to be…

"Did you have to wait outside the bathroom? I said no."

"Please Shizuo-san! We'll do anything! A picture or even a text he may have sent you? We want to know the side of Yuuhei-san that no one else knows!"

Shizuo and his sisters emerged from the hallway. The two of them clung onto his sides, and Shizuo just kept walking without any difficulty to their dismay.

"I said…." Shizuo stopped mid-stride, "Izaya?"

"Ah! Iza-ni!"

"…(you) appeared…"

Izaya turned away, unable to look at them directly. He didn't realize seeing Shizuo again so soon would have this effect on him. But since he didn't want anyone else to pick up on it, he went ahead and reprimanded his sisters, "Mairu, Kururi, haven't I told you not to play with dangerous animals?"

In any other case, he would have expected his sisters to make a snappy comeback about that outright lie and his lack of brotherly traits, but the room had gotten noticeably tense. It was because Shizuo and Izaya were in the same room. And Izaya had already thrown a not-so-subtle insult his way.

Everyone was both relieved and shocked that Shizuo smiled. "I was wondering if you'd show up."

He plucked his sisters off of him easily, as if he was picking lint of his vest, and dropped them in front of the coffee table. He gave a pointed look at the empty space beside Izaya and sat down.

"Only you would sit alone at a party."

"I'm just observing my humans as usual" Like hell he was about to readily admit he was ditched.

Shizuo scoffed, "What's the point of just observing? Include yourself. It's a party."

"It's more fun this way. You're a little too simple minded to understand. The things people do on a daily, it's a shame that no one watches."

Shizuo merely twitched at his jibe, quite an improvement from hurling heavy objects, "Don't give me that crap that it's more fun to watch. What, you're just afraid of them seeing you too? Everyone else does it. They take risks, and let people in."

"I'm not afraid. Look, I didn't choose to sit alone Shizu-chan. It just happened" he said with a glare, when he noticed Shizuo stilled, he shrugged it off. "Don't look at me like that, I'm a big boy, Shizu-chan. Like I said, it happens."

Shizuo held his gaze on him. Izaya shifted under his scrutiny.

"Well, now I'm sitting with you."

Izaya had a hard time stopping the heat rise in his cheeks. "Good for you. Do you want a cookie?"

"No. But you can take a risk and let me in."

He pretended he didn't hear Erika squeal, "Oh my GOD, two of my OTPs in one day!" but he did give a glance around the room. It seemed like everybody was watching them curiously, but quickly minded their own business when Izaya sent a glare their way.

"Shizu-chan, if you don't mind, could you refrain from making such statements in a loud voice. People are going to get the wrong idea."

"What are you yappin' about," Shizuo had already moved from the conversation and turned his attention to the hot pot, he passed a bowl to Izaya, "Here."

Izaya moved in to get ready to serve himself as well. It was funny how as soon as Shizuo showed up, he felt closer to everyone else for some reason. Did he always have this effect on him?

The hot pot was bubbling deliciously with an array of vegetables and meat. The vapour rising out of the pot sent the mouth-watering aroma around making everyone's tummy rumble in hunger. The room felt a little warmer. Was it the boiling pots or was it the people who came together to share a meal, that spread this warmth? Izaya didn't know.

As the food was just about ready to eat, everyone started serving themselves. And Mairu argued with Kida as to which dipping sauces were better. It seemed the blond boy had finally relaxed after speaking with his old friend, and was reverting to his former self.

"It's soy sauce after all! The staple of Japanese cuisine!"

"What?! How ordinary! You call yourself a man? If you want a little punch in your life, you go for the chilli sauce!"

"There's no romance in that! What my heart calls for is none other than soy sauce. You have forgotten your roots, young one!"

"I…like peanut sauce"

"Anri-chan~ what a pure hearted choice. Are you…angel in the flesh?"

"…I'm a human."

"Haha. Masomi, there you go saying weird things again!"

"Mayonnaise is good too."

"Pfft! Hahaha! Shizu-chan, please tell me you're joking!"

Everyone ate and laughed together. It was lively as it was fun. Both young and old, enemies and friends, strangers and family, all came together for a simple meal in peace. It was their vacation. Their stress relief for the events that have passed and have yet to come. They knew 'in here' and 'out there' were in stark contrast with each other, so they kept their thoughts 'in here' to make some happy memories as a good opportunity presented itself. Yes, everyone knew that outside, there was fighting and crimes that were building up to a crescendo, and but only a select few knew there was a conductor orchestrating this terrifying symphony.

"How close are you to catching that Yodogiri Jinnai person?"

Izaya chewed on his food leisurely then carefully swallowed, "That's not a name you should drop so easily, Shizu-chan. Unless you're me of course."

"I'm asking because it's personal now."

Izaya glanced back at Shizuo, gauging his expression, "…oh? And what did he do to you?"

A twinge of worry crept into his mind. He didn't expect Yodogiri to go after Shizuo, and therefore, didn't plan for it.

Shizuo rolled his empty bowl in between his hands, "Earlier, I met up with my brother, and his new girlfriend. And that Yodogiri-bastard might be targeting them."

"I realize this is a little out of the blue, but I felt I should formally tell you myself." Kasuka continued, "I'd like to tell you that Ruri-san and I are going out."

Shizuo blinked. He wasn't sure what to expect when his little brother suddenly called him out, but that certainly wasn't it. Either way, it was a pleasant surprise. He glanced back at the girl with new eyes. She looked more nervous now. She was pretty cute he'd have to say. They would make a very attractive couple. He figured he should try to play the role of a supportive big brother right now.

"Uh, congratulations you two." Shizuo scratched the back of his head, he wasn't exactly good at this type of thing, but he knew he should ask something to show he was interested, "So how did this come about?"

Ruri bit her lip, "Yuuhei-san is protecting me. It's because I got him involved in my dangerous situation…"

Shizuo's eyes narrowed at the mention of his brother getting into anything unsafe. Kasuka was quick to place his hand on hers.

"What danger?"

The two looked at Shizuo at his sudden question.

"It's nothing dangerous for me, brother."

"I'm asking what it is." Shizuo crossed his arms, a rare show of stubbornness when talking with his little brother. Usually he doesn't like sticking his nose in his business, but he wasn't willing to let something potentially dangerous slide.

"Ruri-san is being targeted by her former manager." Kasuka explained calmly. He recognized that unless he told him, his brother's temper would come out. "I brought her to my agency to keep him away."

Shizuo tapped his finger on his arm. So Ruri was the target. But if Kasuka was protecting her there's always a chance that he'd get caught in the crossfire. He didn't really want to insist they break up so his little brother would stay safe, and dating alone was rare for him. He's had a few 'relationships' in the past, but Kasuka assured him over the phone it was for publicity. This is the first girl he'd introduced to him. She must be special to him.

So the only thing to do was to get rid of the threat.

"What's this manager's name?"

"Yodogiri Jinnai" Ruri answered.

Shizuo scrunched his eyebrows together. That name…he heard it somewhere before? He tried to place the name, thinking hard about where he could've heard it. It must have been recent, since he didn't have the best capacity for names.

Oh, that's right. Izaya mentioned him last night. It was that other shitty informant that tried to kill him.

Shizuo felt his blood boil. This bastard targeted Izaya, and now putting his own brother, Kasuka, and his girlfriend in danger? He'd kill him dead.

"I did not want Yuuhei-san to get involved"

"It was my decision to help you. And my decision to go out with you. I'd be troubled if you thought I was doing this because I was forced to due to the situation." Kasuka said tonelessly, "Besides, I'll do what I have to if it means you won't cry again." Even after he said such a heartfelt line, his face remained as stoic as ever.

Ruri's eye bore into his, "Are you flirting with me?"

"I'm not sure. But I'm just being honest." He still hasn't moved his hand from its spot over her own. Ruri's lips quirked upwards briefly.

Shizuo watched the two of them, finding the scene oddly satisfying. He was happy that his brother found someone he could be comfortable with, and was willing to protect. It made him feel proud. And also protective in his own right. He silently promised the two of them that he'll squash that Yodogiri scum to keep the both of them out of harm's way.

"That's why I want to get him out of the picture. I'm not just helping you now, I'm in for my own reasons too."

"Hooh," Izaya hummed, a little more at ease after hearing Shizuo's story, since he was already aware Hijiribe Ruri was targeted, "Shizu-chan, you know catching that guy requires more delicacy than what you're capable of, you know? I'm not sure if a brute like you can be helpful~"

"That's why I'm relying on you. You know about this shit more than I do. But I'm here if you ever need 'a brute's strength'."

Izaya frowned, he noticed his taunts were completely ineffective today, "You're a lot less fun when I can't get you angry."

"Yeah, for some reason, I can't get pissed at you today. Every time I get close, all I can imagine is your blushing face from last n-"

"AAAAaaah! Look at that, my bowl is empty, time for seconds!" Izaya quickly and loudly interrupted him before he could finish his sentence. After refilling his bowl he shot Shizuo a glare.

"Are you crazy?!" Izaya hissed under his breath, "Someone could've heard you, you Neanderthal!"

Shizuo simply shrugged and continued to stuff his face, "So?"

"My sisters are here! And it'll be the end for me if Erika found out." He groaned into his hands, the twins would have blackmail material for life. And Erika was a whole other story.

Shizuo smirked, "Not my problem, flea."

As the party began to wind down, a few people started leaving. The Raira students left first, seeing that it was a school night. Kida and Saki offered to walk them to the station. Shingen and his wife left after, claiming they had a few things to do in the morning.

Izaya made his way out as well. He had some business with the Awakusu-kai to take care of in the morning as well.

Shinra saw him out, "So, Izaya. Did you enjoy the party?"

Izaya smirked, "Busted?"

Shinra's lips also twitched upwards, "Yeah, my old man said Roppi's at their place. It's alright, there weren't any major incidents or property damage, so I'll let your party crashing slide."

"Aw, how sweet."

"I see you're getting along with Shizuo now, huh?"

Izaya looked away, "…yeah. I guess so."

Shinra offered him a knowing smile, and patted his shoulder, "Well, give Roppi our regards, and thank him for sending you over. It was fun."

Izaya huffed in amusement, "Yeah, I'll be sure to thank him. See you, you perverted doctor."

"See you, you human scum!" Shinra cheerfully waved as he closed the door.

Izaya scoffed and made his way to the elevator. Not even a second after he turned around, Shinra's door opened again and another voice called for him.

"Izaya, wait."

"Shizu-chan…?"

Shizuo emerged out of the apartment and closed the door behind him. He walked out towards him, pinning him in place with a serious gaze. The debt collector's outward appears was as calm as usual, but his heart was beating erratically. He realized something last night, and spending more time with Izaya today only made that feeling stronger. Shizuo still didn't have words for it, but he knew what he wanted. He hadn't thought out what he wanted to tell Izaya, but when has he ever? He just let his gut guide him, it hadn't let him down yet.

"Go out on a date with me."

"..hah?"

"I want you to go out on a date with me. Tonight. And tomorrow night. And the night after that."

"Woah woah woah slow down there, big guy." Izaya stared up at him apprehensively, his lips briefly twitched into a ghost of a smirk, still amused despite the turn of events. "What are you saying all of a sudden? Have you lost your mind or something?"

Shizuo shrugged, "Probably. Maybe after seeing my brother and that girl got me thinking. But, just go out with me. It feels like that's what I want to do with you."

His lips quivered and then… "Pffft! Ahahahaaa! Seriously Shizu-chan! So unpredictable!"

Shizuo's eyebrow twitched. But the informant didn't look like he was ridiculing him. Izaya seemed have that genuine smile again. He wondered how many times he's missed that look in the past while he was in a fit of rage, such a waste, he actually liked it very much.

'Well, whatever…if he's going to laugh, then I prefer he laughs like this.'

Izaya wiped a tear out of his eye, "Haa…sure why not. I'll have you know I'm a busy man, Shizu-chan. I don't think I can do every night, but…" Izaya slipped his hand into Shizuo's breast pocket and drew out his cellphone. He entered a number in and sent a message. A notification sounded from his own pocket. He returned Shizuo's phone into his pocket and patted it with a smile, "Tomorrow evening sounds good. I'll message you details when I'm free~"

His hand lingered over his heart. The taller man found his own hand make its way up to grasp it.

Shizuo hesitantly leaned forward, as if asking for permission. And Izaya kept his smile in place as his eyes closed permissively. Their lips met, more leisurely than the first time. As if they were testing the waters, seeing how well they melded with each other. Although it was less intense than the previous, it made up in terms of feeling and purpose.

Izaya slipped his tongue into the other's mouth. He used his free hand to grasp Shizuo's hair and pull him down, deepening the kiss. Shizuo groaned, he didn't know how Izaya consistently managed to wake his inner desire, but there it went again, hitting him like a tidal wave. His own tongue met his with eagerness, set on making their calm kiss more like their last one. However, Izaya chuckled and pulled away. He wiped his mouth with the back of his sleeve and gave Shizuo a wink.

"Save it for tomorrow." And with a coy smirk he turned around and continued down the hallway.

He watched him in a daze, until Izaya got on the elevator and cheerfully waved goodbye. Shizuo re-entered Shinra's apartment and closed the door behind him. He clenched a fist in silent victory.

[Author's Note] ARC Three: DONE. Final Arc starts next chapter. It is the beginning of the end guys! I'm sorry it took this long, I've just been preparing to do my Masters next year so I'm trying to keep my grades above average and volunteer at places related to my field. Hence, little free time. Bear with me, I have to reread this story since I forgot what I've said and what I haven't, and that's going to be a problem if I want to move forward. Again thank you for your patience, and lovely follow/favs/reviews while I was gone, you awesome readers you.

Besides that, this is a breather/set-up chapter for the next one because the metaphorical sh*t is about to hit the fan. Filler chapter? What no…nooo not at all, whaaaat? But this chapter does set up a few things that needed to be put in place. When I first wrote the plot down, I thought I would have enough chapters to flesh it out a bit more. But as I wrote, it quickly became apparent that the momentum picked up too quickly for there to be slow scenes like these. So I decided to simply put them into one chapter so there wouldn't have to be random breaks in the action. I cut out a bunch of less important scenes from the hot pot party, I may rewrite them later and put it into the side-story (Being Ridiculous).

*In case anyone is wondering, "Deka-chin" is a Japanese slang term meaning big d*ck. I couldn't resist making a joke about how similar Kadota's nickname sounded to that.
