Mal's birthday came in March, and it was a low-key affair.
"Don't worry." I told him that night as we settled into bed. "I will organise a party for you next year."
"There's no need, I like just spending it with you and the kids." Mal said as he hugged me to his chest and kissed my hair.
"I know, but next year will be a special birthday, we should honour it with a great big party with much feasting and rejoicing." I replied.
"There's no need, really." Mal insisted.
"Oh but my Malachite, it is not every day you turn fifty." I teased.
"Hey, you'll turn fifty one day too." He countered.
"Yes, and then it will not be long before you turn seventy." I joked.
"It's my birthday, aren't you supposed to be making me feel good?" He asked in mock annoyance.
I raised my head and looked down into his face, making a show of considering this point.
"I suppose you're right." I said as I climbed on top of him. "It is time to make you feel good." And I disappeared beneath the covers.
Five minuets later I surfaced.
"Do you feel good now?" I whispered in his ear.
"Maybe a little." He said, teasing me.
I gasped in indignation and leant over him, looking down into his eyes.
"Only a little?" I demanded.
"I prefer to see you face to face." He said, putting his hands on my cheeks and rising up to kiss me.
I laughed as I pulled away.
"Good answer." I observed.
"I was enjoying that kiss." Mal said, wrapping his arms about me.
I smiled at him then recommenced the kiss. We made out for a while, before we settled to sleep a little later than was advisable considering we both had work the next day. Thank goodness for dhampir fortitude that it did not affect me.
Other than Mal's birthday not much happened in March, apart from Magda's tenth birthday, but that drama was Tony's ordeal, not mine. I suppose I had that still to come, but I was thankful I am not likely to receive quite the statement from Seren, and possibly not from Zoë either. Magda is quite the independent young woman from the second hand account I received from Tony several days later, I have no idea how it truly transpired, or how Tony managed to handle such a thing with calm. I suppose it is his usual state, to think before reacting, as opposed to my jumping to the wrong conclusion and reacting in the wrong manner.
I can only hope Magda's plans work out for the best…
Magda
Can we talk? I asked Dad, catching him as he came out of work.
What's wrong? He asked in concern, coming into the trees where I was waiting.
I just want to tell you my plans for my birthday, but I think I should square it with you before I take it to Mom. I stated.
What's Mom not gonna like about it? Dad asked.
It was a little insulting; I usually went to him first because he was a wolf too. There was some stuff Mom couldn't know because she wasn't one. As for girl stuff, well Mom wasn't into the glitz and glamour so I usually took all those type of questions to Auntie Prue or Auntie Liza, and it wasn't like I needed advice on periods and stuff. That meant Dad was always my first port of call for life advice.
Sorry Mags, it was just your tone. You're working up to something you've decided to do but you don't think we'll approve. He explained,
Wait until the others are out of earshot. I pleaded as I sensed Q nearby.
"Q, why are you following me?" Dad asked aloud.
"Just thought it might be trouble." Q replied, coming from behind a bush.
"Yeah, well it's just Mags, so you can go. Aren't you running tonight?" Dad asked pointedly since he knew for sure that Q was running since Dad was on alpha duty tonight.
"Yeah." Q answered anyway.
"So go have supper or whatever, just get lost. I'm trying to have a private convo here with my daughter."
"Ok. Catch you later." Q said with a salute and he loped off.
Let's walk through the trees. Dad said.
I nodded and we went in a little further before we started walking toward home.
"We're good." He said.
I nodded and then took a breath; I had to do this if I wanted to be treated like an adult.
"On Tuesday I will have been alive for ten years, that's double figures. I think that considering I'm actually working now and on active pack duty I can call myself an adult." I began.
"A couple of hours at the hotel over the summer doesn't count as 'working now'." Dad stated.
"Ok, so I'm not working right now, but don't most kids here work that in the summer between junior and senior year?" I asked.
"Yeah." He agreed.
"So this is my senior year, that makes this my eighteenth birthday." I declared.
"Yeah." Dad said, starting to get really suspicious, and I guess he wanted me to make my point already.
"I want to go hit the town." I said, biting the bullet, although I was still only giving half the story.
"Well, I guess there's nothing wrong with that." He said with a shrug, and I guess a little relieved. "You're not going alone right?"
I shook my head.
"Boo's coming with me, we're gonna hit the clubs in Olympia." I explained.
"Olympia? But that's, can't you just go to Port Angeles your first time out?" He asked.
"It has to be Olympia, but don't worry, we'll get a hotel so we'll be safe." I promised.
"Mags, I'm not sure if I like this." He said, stopping.
"Why?" I asked, turning to look at him.
"Well, you're planning on spending the night in Olympia. With Boo." He said with implication.
"Isn't it better than me and Boo driving back drunk?" I asked, ignoring what he implied.
"Well yeah, but you could not drink." He suggested.
"I know, but I wanna drink." I said firmly, it wasn't up for debate, and now it was time to get to the crux of it. "Anyway, like I said double digits makes me definitely an adult since I've been fully grown for three years now." I continued as we started walking again.
"Now we've gone from eighteen up to twenty." Dad observed.
"Well it's what I'd decided anyway, but you got caught up over the whole job thing." I said with a shrug. "As far as I'm concerned I'm in my twenties and I want to celebrate my birthday the way a twenty something would."
"Meaning?" Dad prompted when it was clear I was starting to waffle again.
"Well I'm not gonna give you all the details, you are my father." I said with a snort.
"Mags…"
"Well wouldn't you prefer me to be upfront about this than to lie to your face and do it anyway?" I asked, cutting him off.
"Do what exactly?" He asked, a little forcefully, Dad didn't get mad usually, but he was sounding close now. Still I had to push through this, it was better that he knew ahead of time than if he picked it out of my mind later when I wasn't expecting it.
"I don't know." I said with a shrug. "I'll see what I feel like on the night, but my main objective is to get Boo laid."
"What!?" He exclaimed, stopping dead once more and he frightened birds out of the tree above.
"Well he wants to have some fun and I figure a night club is a good place to find him a hook-up that won't want a further relationship where his 'real age' will come into question." I explained.
"I'm even more sure this is a bad idea." Dad grumbled.
"Know when you imprinted on Mom, you were only seven right?" I asked.
Dad nodded.
"But you still wanted to do stuff right? But you repressed it because Mom wanted you to?"
Dad nodded again.
"Well Boo has those urges too, but he's not tied to anyone. Shouldn't he be allowed to act like most guys his age?" I asked.
"Playing video games?" Dad quipped.
"You know I mean as a twenty something." I said a little annoyed.
"So did I." Dad said, and laughed.
I rolled my eyes at his lame joke before I continued, "Look, I know you and Auntie Liza had this whole, stay a kid as long as possible thing going, but isn't the fact that the majority of dhampir see themselves as adults as soon as they reach seven kinda evident that it's the more natural behaviour?"
"I guess you have a point there, but even if you were actually twenty I'd be worried about you going out on the town. It's a dad's job to worry about his daughter." He explained.
"I know, but don't worry we'll be careful." I promised.
"Make sure you do." He said firmly. "And any problems…"
"You'll be the first to know."
"Ok." Dad said with a sigh, and we began walking again. "So you got the hotel booked?"
"No, but I got one in mind, just wanted to check with you before I finalised. It's twin beds because it was cheaper for us to share a room than to book two. Do you know they charge you extra if you're just one person in a room?" I asked, I was rambling.
"Yeah, I know that, and don't worry, just go have fun."
"I will." I said and kissed his cheek.
"But tonight you're running so can you keep your mind in the game and no fixating on what you're planning on the weekend?" He asked.
"Yes Boss." I said with a salute.
"Great. Be ready in an hour." He ordered.
I nodded then ran over to Boo's house to tell him we had the all clear.
I knocked on the door, shifting my face to look downcast. Boo answered, and he frowned at my expression.
"What's up?" He asked.
"I talked to Dad about Saturday." I said lowly.
"That bad huh?" Boo asked sadly.
"Yeah." I replied. "You got to come with me on Saturday."
"What?" Boo asked in shock, then he grinned. "Really?"
"Really. Mags and Boo are gonna hit the town." I declared, upbeat.
"I can't wait." Boo said.
"Yeah, well we got a week to prepare. I'm running tonight, but maybe tomorrow you could come over, we need to agree on a room price and stuff."
"Ok." He agreed.
"So see you tomorrow. I have to go now, grab some chow before heading out. I got a feeling Dad's gonna be extra strict with me tonight." I said, faux cheerfully.
"Sure he is." Boo said, rolling his eyes.
Boo thought I had it easy with Dad, that he didn't pull me in line as much as Aunt Tina pulled Boo into line, but that's because I tended to behave better than him. Now that I was starting to be more adult I was sure Dad would be a little firmer with me, trying to hold onto his little girl. I didn't say this to Boo, it wasn't worth the argument, and I really did need to get out ready to run, last thing I wanted was to give Dad an excuse to stop me from going.
So I ran back to my house and I was the last to sit down at the table.
"Where have you been Magda Anna?" Mom asked.
"Talking to Boo. Sorry I had to tell him something about next weekend." I explained.
"What's happening next weekend?" Mom asked.
"You don't wanna know." Dad said under his breath.
"What don't I want to know?" Mom asked.
"Mags and Boo have planned a night out." He replied.
"Like a date?" Mom asked, frowning.
"No." I said. "We don't think of each other like that."
"Well you don't think of Boo like that." Astrid cut in and Lydia giggled.
"Quit it." I growled, ready to bash their heads together if they decided to bug me today, I really wasn't in the mood for the gruesome twosome right now.
"Yes. It's wrong to tease your sister." Mom said. "Maybe we should talk about this later?"
"Can't. I'm running tonight." I replied.
"Tomorrow morning." Mom amended.
"Ok." I replied, and tucked into my food.
I went running and not much happened. Like always. I know it's a good thing, means that the tribe is safe and all, but it's boring, and pointless. I could be home asleep, tucked up in bed dreaming happy dreams, usually about Zeke.
Boss, can you tell the newbie to stop daydreaming? Her fantasies are starting to make me lust for a leech. Opal complained.
It took me a moment to realise she meant me. I was the newbie.
Oh, sorry, was projecting? I replied.
Just a little kid. Dad said, not annoyed, just amused.
Sorry. I said again. I usually have good control on my mind.
You just have something exciting coming up, that's a killer for concentration. Q said.
I know. I replied.
You know what, there's nothing happening tonight. No minds around here. You want to head home? I'll keep an eye on things. Dad said.
Who? Opal asked.
All of you. Dad clarified.
Dad, you can't run the border on your own, it's not fair. I'm ok really, I'll keep my mind on the job and I won't send anything else to the others. I promised.
Yeah boss, it wouldn't be right we bail out on you. Opal added.
It's our duty. Q stated.
Thanks guys. Dad said, pleased that we were all staying out to help him.
We finished out the night and then returned home. I managed to get a few hours sleep before Mom wanted to talk to me. She wanted to spend time with Dad first; it was all the rush of instincts and animal magnetism that happened when Dad got back from running the border. It did make me wonder what it was going to be like for me when I'm older, would it be different when I find my imprint? Well I'd have to experience sex first to even have a hope of imagining it.
I slept about four hours when I finally got up. Mom was in the kitchen, her laptop open in front of her. She was getting back into writing, hoping she had another best selling book series in her.
"Morning. We all had toast." She said.
"Cool." I replied and I went to make myself some toast.
"What's your plan for next week?" She asked.
"I think you might not be happy." I said.
"You should still tell me." Mom stated.
"I'm taking Boo out on the town so he can meet a girl no strings and get laid. He wants to know what sex is like without the worry of the girl freaking out over the amount of time he's been alive rather than accepting his real age. That's why we figured a one night stand would be better for him." I said.
"And what about you?" Mom asked, giving me a level look as if she was trying to read my mind.
I shrugged.
"I got no definite plans." I said.
"But?" She prompted.
"Well if some guy takes my fancy, well I am fully grown and my mental maturity is much more advanced than women three times my age." I began with my argument.
"Yes." Mom agreed, surprisingly.
"And although I will insist on a barrier form of contraception, I have been fitted with a coil so I'm protected that way. Why shouldn't I have a little fun when I'm young? I could imprint tomorrow on a guy who's only five and I'll have thirteen years to wait before he's ready for me, it would be a shame to miss out in all that time."
"You have a point, and I'm not going to tell you not to do it." Mom replied. "I know you'll be careful, just make sure you and Boo look out for each other."
"We will." I promised.
"And if you do sleep with anyone, I won't want a play by play, but I would like to know you're no longer a virgin."
"If that's what you want." I said.
"I do." She confirmed.
"Then I will." I promised.
"And one more thing." Mom said.
"Yes?" I asked.
"Make sure you have fun." She said with a smile.
I nodded.
My birthday was on the Tuesday and I had a load of cards and gifts. We had dinner up at the old Cullen House so Grandpa could see me on my birthday too. Auntie Billie put in an appearance too. I mentioned what me and Boo were doing and she could come with us, but she was working over the weekend otherwise she would have been there. I guess she could come with us next time.
The rest of the week flew by until finally, Saturday, we were getting into my car. I'd decided to drive. I liked driving and if I was in control of the car I had control over when we left.
"I can't believe we're doing this." Boo said excitedly.
"Well we are adults now." I replied. "We've had jobs and everything."
"Yeah." He said with a snort. "I just don't know why we're going so early."
"So I got time to get ready. We've booked a room so I'm not gonna travel down to Olympia in my tiny, tiny dress and excessive hair and make up when I can drive down in my comfies and get ready there." I said.
"And what am I supposed to do in the mean time?" Boo demanded.
"I'm sure you can find something to occupy your time." I said, rolling my eyes. "Of course you could get ready yourself."
"This is what I'm wearing out." He said, indicating his t-shirt, jeans and flannel shirt.
"Please tell me you have something more dressy in your bag? We're hitting the nightclubs not the sports bars. That's fancy shirts and pants, maybe dark jeans if they look fancy enough, but you have to look presentable."
"I'm pulling your leg." He said with a laugh.
"Good. You don't want to be barred from going somewhere cause you're not dressed right." I stated.
"I know, I got something else to wear." He said.
I nodded.
We talked about not much important as I drove on to Olympia. The hotel was near the student district, but that was the point, college age girls were more likely to be after a one-night thing.
The car park for the hotel was actually a block away. There was the choice of valet parking, but we only had a few things to carry and I didn't like anyone else driving my truck anyway. We were heading to the hotel when I thought I heard someone call me, but who did I know in Olympia?
"Mags! Boo! Wait up." Ok, so someone did recognise us.
I turned to find that it was Selena Stonelake.
"I thought it was you guys." She said. "But you've grown so much since the last time I saw you."
"Hi Selena." I replied.
"So what are you guys doing here?" She asked.
"We're going to book into that hotel then head out on the town for the night." I replied.
"You two together now?" She asked looking between us.
"No." Boo said with a snort.
"I'm gonna be his wing man." I explained.
"Why?" She asked.
"Why do you think?" Boo asked.
"You wanna get laid?" She said with a frown. "And exactly how old are you?"
"We're adults." I said firmly.
"I guess you are. Well you know if you really wanna find some action you should hit one of the frat houses. Alpha Fie Gamma are having their monthly last Saturday bash, you wanna crash?"
"Won't they know we're not meant to be there?" Boo asked.
"It's open house, and they'll let you come in bringing a hottie like Magda up for the taking. You are free right? You haven't…you know."
"No. I haven't imprinted and the truth is, if I happen to like a guy tonight I'll see where it goes, but my objective isn't an, I definitely need to get some, like Boo." I explained.
"Oh. Cool. Well I could come meet you later." She said hopefully.
"Let us register, then you can come wait in our room if you want. I'll need a little advice on revising my wardrobe now we'll be heading to a frat party instead." I stated.
Selena considered for a moment then shrugged.
"Ain't got nothing better to do." She said.
"Great." I said with a smile.
She waited outside while Boo and I went to sign in. Once we were signed in and had taken our bags to our room, I went out and met Selena. I led her up to our room and she looked around with interest.
"Swanky." She said.
"Not really. It was the cheapest we could find." I replied.
"It's still nice." She said with a shrug. "So what clothes you got?"
I showed her my dress and healed sandals.
"There's nothing wrong with that. You'll definitely get the guys all over you." She said.
"What about me?" Boo asked.
"You look ok as you are." She replied.
"But am I likely to get the girls interested?" He prompted.
"Let's see what you have." Selena said.
In the end I decided on my little dress and high heals. Boo would in his jeans, and the dress shirt he'd brought. It was a burnished gold colour that complimented his dark chocolate skin. I got dressed in the bathroom, brushing out my hair and applying just a little bit of makeup. I was fully dressed before I stepped out.
"What do you think?" I asked, giving a twirl.
"Oh yeah, the Alpha Fie guys are gonna have heart attacks." Selena said with a chuckle as she lounged on my bed. "Sure wish I was a protector. I'd put up with the wolf stuff for a figure like that." She said as she got up and ran a hand down my side. "You know if this is just a sex thing we don't have to leave this hotel room." She added in a low seductive voice as she put her other hand on Boo's cheek.
Boo was all for it, but I wanted some fun tonight too, and a threesome didn't factor into it. I stepped nimbly out of her reach.
"The point of coming here was so we didn't have to have sex with each other just to see what it's like." I said.
"Why not?" Selena asked.
"We have to run pack duty together, not to mention we're both telepathic. It would be weird." I stated.
"Yeah." Boo agreed, although he didn't sound that convincing.
"I guess you should take it easy your first time." She said with a shrug. "Grab your purse, we're gonna go now. I need to change before I hit the party too."
"Ok." I said and I picked up my purse, one with a strap that went across my body, it didn't really go with my dress but at least I wouldn't lose it.
"Then let's go."
We left the hotel and Selena led us about four blocks into the student quarter. She shared a house with five other girls who welcomed her back happily. They swooned all over Boo, who was insisting on Tim for the evening, that was gonna be weird, but they were jealous of me and tried to blank me. I didn't care; I wasn't here to impress them anyway. Selena was about an hour getting ready then we left, along with the other girls. We stopped off at a store along the way, apparently it was bring a bottle, and then we made our way along the street of big houses until we reached one that was already crawling with people.
"Well Tim." I said, looping my arm through his. "Here goes nothing."
"Our first BYOB party." He crowed, holding up a six-bottle pack.
"Woo-hoo." I crowed, clinking my own pack against his.
"Will you two settle down till we're inside? If Tim wants to get in we have to prove he's cool." Selena hissed.
"Fine." I said, rolling my eyes.
We reached the door and walked inside but were stopped by a burley boy who put his hand out in front of us.
"Selena who's the newbie?" He asked, indicating Boo.
"This is Tim, one of my friends from back home, but he's cool and he comes with an extra." She said pulling me forward by my wrist. "Mags, this is Brent, why don't you say hi to the nice man."
I stepped closer to him, smiling as I looked at him from under my eyelashes.
"Hi Brent, I brought beer." I said, holding up the cardboard carrier with the six bottles in it.
"Well ain't that kind of you babe, put the beer on the table and grab a drink." He said, indicating the table with his thumb.
"Can my cousin come in too?" I asked, putting my arm around Boo.
"Your cousin?" Brent asked, suddenly my real estate went up.
"Can't you see the resemblance?" I asked. "We share a grandfather." Which wasn't technically a lie since we were both descended from Taha Aki.
"Well you brought beer right bud?" He asked.
"Yep." Boo confirmed, holding up his own pack.
"Then come right on in. Like I said, beers on the table and grab a drink. Maybe we can meet up later, gorgeous." He said, winking at me.
I giggled and batted my eyelashes at him before I dumped my beer on the table. I grabbed one of the bottles and uncapped it. I took a swig before I slipped my arm through Boo's and wandered further into the house between the dancing people.
Spot any girls you like yet? I asked.
I don't know, it's kinda hard to see anything in here, and well what should we do? He asked.
Let's dance so we can get closer to people, if you see any girl you like I'll introduce you. I promised.
Ok.
Come on then. I said, starting to sway a little.
How do I dance? He asked, panicking a little.
Just move to the music. You don't have to be Fred Astair; the other guys are mostly just doing the stomp dance. I said, stomping back and fore. Course, being a girl I can't get away with that and my heels might not take it. I added as I made my moves more gentle and sensual.
Ok. He said and started stomping, but a bit too much.
Now rein it in a bit, you don't want to disable the girl. I cautioned.
Oh right. Boo said and after a few fumbled steps he started to sway like me and it really showed off the sensual lines of his body, I was certain it would draw a girl in.
So you see anyone? I asked.
Boo looked around but we seemed to be hemmed in by couples. There was a group of girls dancing in a tight circle. I put my hand on Boo's shoulder and motioned for him to follow me and I danced us over until we were near the girls. I bumped up against one and she turned in time for me to move enough for her to catch Boo's eye. She smiled at him then started whispering with her friends, they were wondering if Boo was with me and if he was how serious was it.
"So how is Aunt Tina, Tim?" I asked aloud.
"She's good, you know the women in our family, tough as a nut." He replied.
"Oh I'm glad. I'll have to let Mom know I saw you here Cuz, I didn't know you'd be here." I said, making sure they knew we were related.
"Well you know how it is, I move place to place." He said with a shrug on the beat of the song.
"So you still with what's her face? Jenica?" I asked, thinking that it was the best way to confirm his singleness.
"No." He said. "She had to go find herself or something."
"Oh that's too bad. I'm sorry." I said, with clearly feigned regret.
"I'm not, means I'm a free agent." He said with a grin.
"Glad you said that, I never liked her much anyway." I said with a snort. "She was a bitch."
"I know that now, but hind sight is twenty/twenty as they say." He chuckled.
"Yeah." I said and drained my bottle. "I'm going to get another drink, you want one?"
"I'm ok." He said.
"I'll be back in mo, need to use the little girl's room too." I stated.
Boo nodded.
I moved away from him. I didn't really need the bathroom, but I thought it would give him a little more time for the girls to decide to move on him if they wanted to, or he could move in on one of them.
I guess that's up to you. I thought toward him. They might be more responsive if you make the first move. Just skim their minds so you know if hitting on them will get you in trouble or not.
Ok. Boo replied.
I left the main room and decided to track down a bathroom in case I needed it later. Locating it now was better than having to do it when I was desperate. It was up on the first floor and I had to squeeze through so many bodies, people were even dancing or making out on the stairs, but at least I knew where the bathroom was.
I made my way back down to grab another beer from the table. All the ones I'd brought had gone, well they had been the more expensive type, but I grabbed a generic bottle and uncapped it rather than take it from the keg. I didn't think it was laced with anything, but the fact that some of the guys were drinking directly from the tap made me feel a little Aunt Liza about it.
I found a corner of calm and leant against the wall as I sipped this second bottle, looking around at the people, trying to spot a potential candidate. There wasn't anyone just yet, they were all a bit burly and boisterous and given my height, figure and the way I was dressed tonight they might think I'm a little more experienced than I actually am. Where were the sensitive artist types when you needed them? I could really do with a Zeke-a-like right now.
Hmmm…. I wonder if Zeke was here? I mean he could be out hunting a date like I was. Of course if he made it as far as Olympia he'd more likely have gone on to Olympic Pines visiting Auntie Prue. He wouldn't be here. Shame.
Well leaning against the wall wasn't gonna get me anywhere. I drained my bottle, put it on the nearest table and moved into the crowd, dancing on my own to the up-tempo pop number. I didn't usually like this type of music, but now I was dancing amongst people it seemed about right. I lost myself in the music for a while and then I was aware that someone was dancing up behind me, I moved in closer to the guy looking at him through the corner of my eye as I scanned the top of his mind.
He liked me, more than liked me, but I know I'm a good-looking woman, I can't help it, it's all in the genes. Usually I dressed down, tried to hide it a bit, but I'd gone all out tonight and I hadn't missed the reactions of the guys here, they'd all been weighing up their chances, this was the first one brave enough to approach me.
I turned to him and looked into grey-blue eyes just a little lower than mine, but then I was wearing killer heals. He smiled crookedly as he placed his hand on my waist. I danced closer to him thinking that dancing for a while would be ok, and who knows where it would lead? He moved his hand around to the small of my back, pulling me closer so I had no choice but to wrap my arms around his neck.
He began to sway, moving me with him and it was almost hypnotizing.
"How come you're dancing alone?" He asked in my ear.
"I felt like it." I whispered back, turning away from him, but still dancing up close. "Haven't seen anyone who interests me yet."
"Not one guy?" He asked, taking my hand and he spun me around until I was pressed up against his chest.
"Well maybe one." I said, looking into his eyes and I licked my lips without thinking.
He smiled at me before brushing his lips against mine. I gasped, I liked the feel, and I wanted his lips to touch mine again. I put my hand to his cheek and pressed my lips to his in a kiss, a lingering one. Not full making out though, we were in the middle of a crowd, and anyway, a little more teasing wouldn't hurt.
"There's too many people here." He said, his hands gliding up and down my waist and hips slowly.
"Ah huh." I agreed.
"We should get away." He suggested.
"Well yeah." I said, stepping back slightly. "But I don't even know your name. You don't know mine. For all you know I could be a psychotic bunny boiling bitch."
The guy laughed.
"Well are you?" He asked.
"No." I said with a shrug. "But I could have been."
"That's true." He said with a smile. "I'm Tyrone by the way."
"I'm Magda." I replied.
"So you want to go somewhere a little more quiet?" He asked smoothly.
I grabbed his chin and looked into his eyes, going as far into his mind as I was willing before I considered it an invasion of privacy. He didn't seem like a bad guy, he just liked the look of me and wanted to get out of the party. He wasn't really into the whole pounding music and drinking till your guts explode thing, he thought I might be the same.
"What are you doing?" He asked.
"You can tell a lot about a person if you look in their eyes." I replied. "And you're a decent guy. Yeah sure, I'd actually love to get away from this music if I'm honest. It's not the best."
"Yeah, all dance, need something with more of a low down dirty beat." He said with a grin.
"Then what are we waiting for?" I asked, returning his grin.
He gave a snorting laugh, took my hand and kissed the back of it before he began leading me through the house, back toward the stairs. He led me up the stairs and I guessed he must have been one of the frat guys.
We didn't stop on the first floor, there was a door that hid another set of stairs, we climbed these up to a loft. It was clear this was his own personal space, a bed, a beanbag in front of a decent sized TV all amongst an easel, paints and lots and lots of artwork. His own drawings covered every available wall space and hung off a piece of string stretched from wall to wall.
I liked it, and I liked him. Boy did I like him, deep down in my lady parts, I wanted him, could imagine him there. I'd never really felt that before, but as Tyrone ran his hand up over my chest to my neck I felt that deep, deep down thrill and a slight dampness below. Oh god I wanted more from this man I'd just met. And I didn't care I'd just met him; this was the point of meaningless hook-ups. That's why Boo and me had come all the way to Olympia, guilt free sex.
He closed and locked his door and somehow that was all I needed to leap up into his arms, and he caught me and supported me as I locked my lips to his and kissed him deeply, pushing myself as close to him as possible. Moving my pelvis a little I felt the friction of his shirt and it began a deep vibration within me that I knew he could make more. I was ready to feel a guy within me, and this guy, Tyrone, was the perfect candidate.
I was ready for this…
I opened my eyes happily, feeling indescribably good. I didn't even panic when I discovered Tyrone wasn't in the bed next to me, he was at the easel in the corner. I got out of bed and pulled the blanket around me as I crossed to where he was working.
"What are you drawing?" I asked softly in his ear.
He jumped and looked at me in shock.
"How are you already awake?" He asked.
"Awake?" I asked, backing away, worried. "What do you mean by awake? Did you slip me something?"
"No. No, I just…" He laughed nervously as he got to his feet and he looked into my eyes. "What are you?"
"Well that's a rude question." I grouched.
"Well you're not human, they always sleep a while afterwards, and vampires are stone cold, they don't sleep but aren't worth the effort."
I frowned for a moment and then it just clicked.
"You're a True Immortal." I said.
"A what?" He asked, laughing it away, but it was clear he was covering.
"You know, for a secret being that can take any form in any dimension you really don't know how to lie well." I stated.
"I'm usually good at it, you just caught me off guard being all awake and knowing what I am. How do you know?" He asked, walking around me, inspecting me with his eyes as if he could read what I was, he probably could.
"Your kind are not unknown to my kind." I said, following him with my own eyes, turning my head quickly to the other side when he passed behind me.
"And what kind would that be?" He asked with a whisper, stepping up close behind me, and his arms came around my waist.
"I'm an uncertainty." I said with a grin, using Grandma's word.
"And what is an uncertainty?" He asked as he brushed his lips against my ear lobe.
"I have an interesting genealogy." I replied, my breath hitching a little as his breath sighed across the skin of my throat.
"I like learning." He said, kissing me.
"I…" I trailed off and thought about how foggy my mind was becoming.
I stepped away from him and turned to look at him.
"You know, you don't have to use your TI voodoo on me, I'll tell you on my own terms. I'm part vampire, part wolf and part human. There, now you know." I said. "The reason I woke up sooner than a human is because my wolf side gives me regenerative powers so you can drain life force from me but it doesn't affect me as much. Believe me."
"What do you mean wolf?" He asked, ignoring most of what I said.
"I'm Quileute wolf, a shapeshifter. I turn into a wolf." I clarified.
"I remember something about that in my first life, some mention of it from one of the vampires, but I didn't know you were such a renewable food source." He said, grinning at me. "Can you really turn into a wolf?"
I looked around the room, figured there was enough space.
"Just watch me." I said and threw the blanket to the side before I phased.
I dropped down onto four paws and looked into his shocked eyes.
See. Wolf. I spoke into his mind.
Also telepathic? He asked. There aren't many mortal creatures who are telepathic. That's how you resisted me earlier.
Yeah. I agreed. But like I said, you don't have to use your whammy on me, you're handsome enough.
I phased back to human and pulled the blanket back around me.
"Well I know, but this isn't how I really look. I thought you knew about True Immortals." He said, as if catching me out.
"I do, I just can't imagine having different faces." I mused.
"You have two faces." He pointed out.
"Well yeah, but they're my own. Have you got one of your own?" I asked.
"In my natural form I don't have a face. I don't have a body, I just… Am. It's hard to explain to flesh bound mortals." He muttered, frowning deeply.
"Is it like spirit walking?" I asked.
"Spirit walking?"
"Well I haven't tried it yet, I haven't had the guts, but technically my consciousness can leave my body. Long ago all the men of my tribe could do it, but one of them went to the bad so they stopped in case he stole their body when they were outside. I guess the art was lost until my grandma, but that's really not important now."
"At least you can go back to your body, I can never become the body I was the first time, it's impossible to re-manifest your original body."
"Why?" I asked.
"It's against the rules." He said with a shrug.
"Have you ever tried?"
"Of course I did, but it never works." He said sadly. "I can get close, but there's always something a little off."
"I guess it's better you don't do it then." I conceded.
"I can look like anyone else though, like anyone from your mind." He said, looking into my eyes and I could feel him rummaging in my brain. "Like this guy maybe?" He said as he blinked out of existence and a second later Zeke was standing in front of me, but I knew it wasn't Zeke, it just wasn't him.
"No." I said firmly.
"But you really like this guy." He said, and it was Zeke's voice too, but it just didn't feel like Zeke, it felt like a lie.
"And that's why it would be weird next time I bump into him." I said, on the verge of feeling upset.
"But you haven't seen him in years. Not since you were a kid." He mused.
"Yeah, but that was only three years ago." I said, then felt I could shoot myself for saying that.
"Only three years ago? Oh, you're only ten." He said, picking that out of my mind.
"Well I might have only been here ten years, but physically and mentally I'm fully grown." I said defiantly.
"Hey, don't worry." He said and he shifted back to how he looked before. "This body is only a second old, but physically and mentally I'm fully grown."
"I guess my freakish aging wouldn't seem so freakish to you." I conceded.
"Not as freakish as you turning into a wolf." He teased.
"Says the ethereal being who can look like anything he wants." I countered.
"Really." He said with a grin as he stepped closer and pulled me to him. "I'm a freak?"
"As freaky as the next person." I joked and I stroked his cheek before kissing him.
The kiss turned passionate and I soon got rid of the blanket, well it wasn't worth keeping it around me now. As we kissed we moved to the bed again and I was taken to that wonderful height once more. God it felt good and I couldn't believe I'd actually got to orgasm again, I knew it wasn't a given every time.
I felt it this time, something drain from me as he kissed me, but it wasn't sleep inducing and I didn't really feel that snoozy afterwards either, but it was nice to snuggle down in his arms.
"This has been a wonderful night." I said as I traced my fingers on his shoulder.
"It is." He said as he stroked his hand down my arm and kissed the top of my head. "It's a nice change to be able to hold the girl afterwards, to have her talk to me and not fall into a deep snooze."
"Does it get lonely?" I asked.
"I can always go talk to the other True Immortals if I so desire." He said stiffly.
"Then why don't you?"
"They're so boring, just constantly blathering about this world or the other, there's no physical contact there either, just existence. It's not as fun as being here and holding another person, and experiencing with the physical senses. The loneliness is worth it for these brief moments of contact." He said as he pulled me closer to him.
"It sounds terrible, being a True Immortal." I said sadly.
"It has its upsides." He conceded. "I get to see things people on this world thinks doesn't exist."
"You've been to other planets?" I asked excitedly, sitting up to look at his face.
"Yeah?" He said, frowning as if he couldn't understand my excitement.
"What's it like?" I asked.
"Ah, now that I'm not allowed to tell you, it's against the code." He said, and tapped my nose. "You can know there's other worlds but you can't know what's in them."
"Oh well, rules are rules." I said with a shrug. "Talking of rules, I should probably get going now, Boo will be wondering where I am."
"Who's Boo?"
"My cousin." I said, since it was true in a round about way.
"She won't be worried." Tyrone said with a shrug before pulling me back against his chest.
"Boo is a guy." I said. "And even if he has managed to get laid he will worry if I'm not there at one. That's the time we agreed to go back to the hotel to get a few hours sleep before we head home tomorrow since the whole point of us staying the night was so we wouldn't have to drive home drunk."
"It's only been about ten minuets since we came in here." Tyrone said softly.
"No way, it's been a lot longer than that!" I exclaimed.
"Well for us it has." He said with a smirk.
"Wait, what do you mean, you've stopped time out there?" I asked, feeling impressed.
"I haven't stopped time out there, I've just moved us into a different stream of time. I always do it because if a girl I bring back here loses several hours of time someone's gonna get suspicious." He explained.
"I'm not sure they shouldn't." I said, because I guess the whole sleep thing was bothering me.
"I don't do anything with them they don't want to do. Believe me, I learned the hard way what wandering hands can get you." He said with a snort.
"What's that?" I asked.
"Thrown into a brick wall so hard you leave a dent." He said and laughed.
"I don't think wandering hands is a laughing matter." I said darkly.
"Yeah well I was young and stupid, still in my first life. I spent all my early life invisible to everyone, is it any wonder I went a little wild when the ladies started noticing me? Not to mention I got in with bad people."
"It's a reason but it's not an excuse." I said.
"Yeah, well you try saying no to a vampire." He countered.
"I've done it loads of times." I said, smugly. "Rea suggested that I join her guard, and maybe have a little fun, but I told her no, I'd feel weird off Res without the pack around me, and I know I'm not attracted to women. It's easy if you know your mind."
"Well I didn't know my mind, I was just happy chasing tail." He observed.
"That is not a nice way to put it." I said, sitting up and glaring at him.
"Are you offended as a woman or a wolf?" He asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Maybe a bit a both." I said. "So how did a woman throw you into a brick wall? Was it a vampire?"
"No. This vamp guy, Darius, had this thing against what he called traitors; the vamps who decided to drink animal blood instead of human blood. He'd lure the vamp on a date, with a human escort since they couldn't eat." Tyrone began, but a name jumped out at me and I had to explore it further.
"Darius?" I asked in shock.
"Yeah. You know him?" He asked.
"No." I said with a shake of my head. "I've heard of him though. He was a pain in the ass to my Grandma, kept perving on her, she sorted him out in the end though."
"Sorted him out how?" He asked.
"Challenged him to a duel in the Volturi arena and won." I said proudly. "Grandma didn't know at the time that it was a fight to the death. And I think I just figured out who you are. I mean why didn't I connect the name when I found out you were a True Immortal, no wonder Darius thought you were an incubus. The one who threw you into the wall, called herself Kate right?"
"Yeah." He said, a little hesitant to admit it.
"That was my Grandma." I informed him.
"That's, well now I feel weirded out." He said, and he really did look freaked out.
"Why?" I asked.
"Cause it means I'm old enough to be your grandfather." He said.
"I thought that body was only, an hour old." I ventured, guessing the length of time that had passed.
"Well you do have a point."
"Yeah." I replied. "Anyway, I should probably go find Boo now."
"I'll come with you. If you can't find him right away at least the other guys won't bother you if you're with me." He stated.
I shrugged and got out of the bed.
"If you want to freshen up I got a private bathroom through that door." He said pointing and a door appeared.
"And it really is a bathroom in there, you're not going to make me think there is and really I'm standing out where everyone can see me naked?" I asked.
"It's a real bathroom I promise you. I just keep it hidden so no one else uses it, even if they do happen to come up to my loft." He explained.
"What about the other girls you have up here?"
"They're usually ok to just leave, I'm making an exception for you." He said magnanimously.
"Why?" I asked, unable to stop myself from feeling suspicious.
"Because you gave me comfort, it's a new experience, so I'm thanking you." He said sincerely.
"Well, then, thank you." I said solemnly.
I picked up my clothes and went into the bathroom. I showered and wiped and dressed. I only had spare lipstick, but I'm sure no one would really have noticed what makeup I had on when I came in. There was a brush on the counter and I brushed my hair, I'd managed to keep it mostly dry, I could wash it better when we got back to the hotel.
I returned to Tyrone's room and he was dressed.
"Aren't you going to shower?" I asked.
"I don't need to." He said with a shrug.
"Then why don't you want anyone using your bathroom?" I questioned.
"Just because I don't need to wash doesn't mean I don't like to wash." He said with a grin.
I shrugged.
"Let's go find your friend." He said, gesturing to the door with his head.
I nodded and we stepped outside. He'd been right, the party hadn't changed much since we'd come upstairs and when we passed the clock in the hall I'd only been gone an hour, I guess he didn't want people to think he had no prowess if we returned to the party too quickly.
I scanned for Boo's mind, he wasn't here.
"He's left." I whispered.
"How can you tell?" Tyrone asked.
"His mind isn't here. Is there only one door outside?" I asked.
"Yeah." He confirmed.
"Then if we go out to the street I can track him from there." I stated.
"Ok."
We headed to the door and I was maybe a little eager to get out of there that I got ahead of Tyrone.
"Leaving so soon baby?" A guy asked, the door guy, Brent, asked, grabbing hold of my elbow.
"I need to find my cousin." I said, figuring out how to break free without breaking his hand.
"But the funs in here." He protested.
"Yeah, we already had some, but we're going for fresh air." Tyrone said, sliding his arm around my waist and pulling me into his side, Brent immediately let go. "You know how it is."
"He just took my breath away." I purred.
"Oh dude, sorry T, didn't realise she was your gal, although she is the prettiest one here tonight." Brent said, backing away.
"No foul, just play nice." Tyrone said with an edge that I was sure meant Brent wouldn't stop any other girl leaving tonight.
As soon as I was outside I picked up on Boo's scent, it stood out against the human scents and I followed it onto the next street where the sorority houses were located. The house the scent led to was one of the shabbiest. I let my mind flow inside, Boo was a little busy, but I had to know when he'd be done.
Are you spending the night? I asked.
Mags? Just go back to the hotel. I'll get back whenever. Don't worry about me. He thought in unsteady bursts.
I didn't really like leaving him, but if he did plan on spending the night then I'd be on the street all night. I shrugged, deciding to head back to the hotel, maybe order room service, watch a movie.
"What's happening?" Tyrone asked.
"Boo is busy, told me to go on ahead to the hotel." I replied/
"You can stay with me if you want." He offered.
"No. I just want to have a soak in a warm bubble bath while reading, then settle down with a load of chocolate watching some slushy film." I stated.
"You didn't have a good time?" He asked, looking worried.
"I had a good time." I stated.
"But aren't those the actions of a girl who's been dumped?" He asked sceptically.
"Well where this girl is concerned it's my wind down routine." I replied.
"Do you mind if I walk you back? I don't want you to get in trouble." He said.
"I can handle myself." I informed him, not reminding him how Grandma had protected herself.
"Yes, but you didn't with Brent because you were afraid of hurting him." He pointed out.
"That's true." I agreed reluctantly.
"I'll walk you half way, that way you know I'm not just trying to get into your room. Of course I could always switch gender and we have a girly sleep over." He said with a grin.
I considered this.
"You really want that?" I asked.
"Well you've had your grown up birthday thing, you want to do the ten year old birthday thing?" He offered.
"How do you know it's my birthday?" I asked.
"I skimmed it from your mind." He said without a hint of shame.
"That's rude you know." I scolded him.
"It's a natural talent, just the same as using my eyes to see you." He said with a shrug.
"It's an invasion of privacy, I'm also telepathic don't forget." I countered.
"Ok. I'll stop dipping into your brain." He promised, before switching back on track. "So you want a slumber party?"
I shrugged.
"Ok."
"I'll change a block away from the hotel."
I nodded. He held out his arm to me, I slipped my arm through his and we made our way to the hotel. A block away he ducked into an alley and came out looking like a tall athletic black girl wearing a dress similar to mine, and carrying a hold all thrown over her shoulder.
"You might want to lose the bag, I'll have to pay extra if there's another person." I said with worry, I didn't have the spare cash.
"I'll cover any extra costs." She said in a husky voice.
"Ok. Well, um what do I call you now?" I asked, worried I'd end up calling her Tyrone.
"You pick a name." She suggested.
"Tiana?" I suggested.
"Tiana? Why not?" She said with a shrug.
We went into the hotel and after I showed Tiana around the room I went to have a long hot shower, this time washing my hair. It would be rude to keep her waiting too long. It was nice to get into my PJs, all comforting and I was looking forward to just veging before sleep.
I went out to the main room; Tiana was sat on Boo's bed, wearing a onsie that looked like a teddy bear. She was flicking through the movie menu.
"Found anything?" I asked.
"What about Darktide? The good version is available." She said.
"No. Not Darktide." I said firmly.
"I didn't peg you for a prude." She teased.
"I got nothing against erotica, except Darktide. Grace Pearson is my mother. Lady Anna and Brody are basically my parents, and other characters are based on the rest of my family, you see my problem here?"
Tiana shrugged.
"What do you want to watch then?" She asked.
"Anything as long as it isn't Darktide." I stated. "Why don't you choose and I'll order us something from room service."
"Why waste money." Tiana said and waved her hand, there was a swirl of dust and a table laden with movie night snacks appeared between the twin beds.
"Is it real?" I asked.
"It feels real and tastes real, but is zero calories. You couldn't live on it, but it makes the best snack food." She said with a side grin, like someone in an infomercial.
"Cool I guess." I conceded since it didn't really affect me due to my metabolism. "I'll just dry my hair."
"I'll wait." Tiana said and picked up a magazine from the rack.
I dried my hair then climbed onto my bed, grabbing a bowl of popcorn.
"So what's the movie?" I asked.
"Heart Left Wanting. It's a weepy about someone whose husband has a heart transplant and he doesn't love her anymore. They have to work to regain the love they lost."
"Ok."
We watched the movie, a typical made for TV with mediocre acting and shaky cinematography, but it was decent enough. It made me cry anyway. After the movie ended we settled down for sleep, I was a little curious about what would happen if Boo came home to find Tiana in his bed, but he didn't show up until nine the next morning, by which time Tiana had already left and I was packed up ready to go.
"Come on, we need to check out by midday or we have to pay another night." I warned him.
"Ok. But can I shower first?" He asked.
"Yeah. Just make it quick."
I waited for him to shower and dress, then we went down to sign out. We had breakfast from McDonalds before we headed home.
"How did your night go?" He asked.
"It went well. I met a guy, we fooled around a little then I went back to the hotel. You?" I replied.
"I got off with a girl named Charlene." He said brightly, before mumbling the addition of, "and three of her friends."
"What? That's horrible!" I exclaimed.
"I know, I wasn't expecting a fivesome my first time out." He said, a little haunted.
"A…A what?" I demanded, I was completely lost.
"Yeah, like a threesome, only with five people." He explained.
"And you were the only guy?" I asked.
"Well it started out just Charlene, but when she discovered my stamina she called in her friends to come check me out and they all wanted to join in." He said, almost in disbelief that it had happened.
I couldn't believe it, so I scanned his mind and he wasn't lying.
"Nice to know you trust me Cuz." He said.
"Sorry, but that sounds more farfetched than my night with a True Immortal who was a guy at first and we had sex, then he turned into a girl and we had a slumber party watching weepy movies." I said, blurting out my night in my shock at Boo's night.
"Really?" Boo asked.
"Scan my mind and find out." I challenged him.
"Well I believe you." He said, as if making a point.
"Looks like we both had an adventure." I said with a chuckle.
"Yeah." He agreed. "But maybe we shouldn't let anyone else know about it."
"Hell no, the whole pack will want to come with us next time." I joked.
"There'll be a next time?" Boo asked.
"Why not, I had fun, didn't you?"
"Yeah, but could we go somewhere else? I'd like a slower pace next time." He said warily.
"How about we hit Port Angeles?" I suggested.
"Sounds good to me." Boo agreed.
"It's a deal." I said with a smile.
As we drove home I couldn't help but feel that our first excursion into the adult world had been a success, if a little weird. It wasn't anything to turn us off going out on the town again, but like Boo said, it was probably better not to mention what happened to anybody else. All we had to say was that we had a good time.
