Epilogue
Exactly two weeks after Danny was kidnapped, Steve fetched him from hospital in the afternoon.
Already thirty-six hours after surgery, the drainage was pulled and thanks to Food Supplements Danny's strength came back faster than had been expected. Even if he wasn't back to normal again, he felt good and was glad to be able to leave the hospital. The nightmares were getting fewer by the day, but there was still a long road of recovery ahead - both physically and mentally. "Do you have something that you left behind in the bathroom?" Steve asked, after he had taken the last of Danny's clothes from the closet.
"No, everything is packed in the toiletry bag. Thank you for picking me up and driving me home." Said Danny, who was sitting on the edge of the bed and watching as Steve was doing the last of Danny's packing.
"No problem. But I'm not taking you home." He remarked casually.
"Why's that? You told me again and again that Barbara is dead. So there is no need for me to not go home." Danny did not understand.
"Now let's go! Have you left anything?" Steve averted the topic and grinned inwardly.
On the way Danny asked several more times for the reason but Steve remained silent.
"I was so happy to be released. Although I had to cancel my weekend with Grace," Danny complained loudly.
"Do you really think it will kill you if you spend the weekend with me? Please, do it for my sake. Then you can get better."
"Of course, you will watch me the whole weekend, make sure I do not overexert myself or even move too much." Danny muttered on.
"I mean, it really is the only thing that works well with you." Steve defended himself vigorously.
When they arrived at Steve's house, Danny gave up, resigned. Before he even had the chance to independently get out of the car, Steve was already beside the car and opening the passenger door.
"But I can still run into the house myself, or will you carry me?" Danny asked mockingly.
"I think we should not exaggerate." Steve replied and grabbed the bag from the back seat.
Slowly they walked to the front door and before Steve opened the door he took another deep breath, then he gave the door a kick and let Danny take the lead.
Everyone who was important to Danny was standing in a semicircle and they all yelled, "Welcome back!"
A banner hung on the wall with the same inscription.
Danny did not know what had hit him and stood rooted to the spot - it was something he had absolutely not expected.
Grace immediately ran to him and gave him a hug. One by one he was welcomed by all. Finally, he stood there completely overwhelmed and detached and did not know what to say.
"Danny Williams speechless, that does not happen every day." Steve stood behind him with a broad grin.
"You're such an idiot, you know that?" Hissed Danny to Steve.
"I love you too!" Steve whispered an answer that only he could hear.
Chin and Kamekona took care of the grill that of all kinds of delicious spent the entire night at Danny's side, giving him what he needed.
"Did Uncle Steve tell you that I'm going to spend the weekend here with you?" she asked, looking forward to the day with her father.
"Really? No, he did not!" Danny exclaimed thankfully, but slight angry at Steve for not telling him.
"He did not mean to make you mad. Do not be mad at him, he just did not want to spoil the surprise." Grace said and made a sad face.
"I can not be mad at your Uncle Steve." He hugged his daughter very tightly.
Just before they started eating, Steve turned back and raised his glass.
"I want to thank all those present that have helped in the search for Danny and have allowed this little celebration to take place. Actually, Leilani, we wanted to hereby welcome you to our Ohana. So I would like to say to one cheer to Leilani and secondly to you Danny. We are glad to be able to connect both of you in our arms. Cheers!"
All those stood around the table were moved as they listened to Steve's words. When he had finished speaking, all raised their glasses and gave a Community "Cheers!"
After dinner, Danny made himself comfortable on a deck chair on the porch whilst the others cleaned and he watched as the sun slowly set into the horizon.
Kono joined him. She was slightly worried - Danny was a city boy, he wouldn't usually sit and admire nature.
"It's beautiful as the sun plays with the water and the light, right?" she asked, slightly nervous.
"It's indescribable, one or even two weeks ago I would not have thought to appreciate a sunset." Danny answered honestly.
"I believe you! But I have yet to apologize to you." Kono acknowledged with a bad conscience.
"Why?" Danny did not understand what Kono was getting at.
"In the hospital, when I flamed you so, I'm so sorry. It was just too much for me. All the worries with you and then I had an argument with Adam." She explained, slightly embarrassed.
"Do not worry, it's all good. In a way, you were right, it was not just about me."
"But, at that moment it was about you and what you went through. I had no right to make you responsible for my problems." Kono was upset about her behavior.
"Is everything all right again between you and Adam?" Danny asked, careful to avoid hitting a sore spot.
"I think so. I mean, we had a long talk and everything, you know." Kono nodded, relieved.
"Then let us forget." Decided Danny and enveloped her in a friendly hug.
The whole weekend was the best remedy that Danny could have been offered. It was clear to him what he had there... Ohana. And he wouldn't change it for the world.
