Hello! I know I said this story was over (and it is) but it has been a year since I published the first chapter here and after some consideration, I figured that maybe you would all like to know why I chose the ending that I did. (And if you don't, you can just skip this chapter. It's not a continuation of the story in any way.)
Basically, I chose the ending because I wanted this story to end a bit differently than the other stories that had been published at the time. (And no, I have not read fan fiction on here in a very long time so I have no idea if anyone else on here has gone for a similar ending.) It just felt right at the time that Celeste was too powerful not to get her way and with both Maxon and America out of the palace, it made sense to me that she would attack and probably succeed. Obviously Maxon and America would not know this having no contact with the outside world and so when they were found, I figured that things would go down the way they did.
Anyway, I know this story wasn't the biggest or the best one on here, but I'm grateful for anyone who decided to give this story a go. It has been fun reading your reviews and learning about your reactions (because I didn't actually cry while writing the last chapter so I had no idea if any of you would).
So to thank you all, here is what would have been the beginning of another fanfic for The Selection had I bothered to finish it. I hope you all like it and feel free to finish it/use the idea. Actually, if you do, I would love to see how it would have turned out because I think it has potential to become a good story in someone else's hands.
I guess I'll see you all at the bottom.
Disclaimer: I do NOT own The Selection. That belongs to Kiera Cass.
Happy Reading!
The Face of Illea
The sun had shone on the palace walls that day as it had every other day that summer. According to the fallen leaves of all the colours of fall, it had practically been the end of summer. That summer, however, the leaves had rained down to the ground a little too early for my tastes.
My mother had rolled her eyes at me when I'd told her how I would miss waking up to the sound of birds singing and the sight of the flowers that blossomed in the garden. I hadn't cared, though. Looking back, maybe I should have.
But would that really have changed anything?
It had all started a week earlier, actually. I was sitting in the bedroom Maxon and I shared when he came storming in, a furious look on his face. "What's wrong?" I asked so innocently it made me sick to think about how clueless I was around the palace. No one told me anything so politics escaped me.
I couldn't make budgets, I couldn't plan wars, and I most certainly could not produce an heir.
The thing was, I wasn't the one who was infertile. That was Maxon. Still, I was the one stuck with the blame.
Me.
The Wife.
The Princess.
The Queen.
It was torture to see the way the citizen's of my country stared back at me during public appearances, thinking about how I was the reason the end of the monarch was nearing. It. Truly. Sucked.
And there was nothing I could have done about it.
"Our nonexistent heir," he replied. "Whoever they are, they are needed now. Crime and poverty have gone up while the economy has gone down. With no government, there are no rules. As soon as we die, this country will break out into complete chaos. That is, unless we produce an heir."
Did you like it? I hope you did. :)
Before I respond to your reviews, I just wanted to remind you all that I do have a book blog at .com and a Fiction Press account called For The Love Of Writing (links in my profile) if you ever want to come say hi. :)
Responding To Reviews:
Liv448o: Thank you!
The Queen Reader: Thank you and I'm sorry I didn't include more Maxerica. And for that last chapter. (Also, they had to walk to George's house (which was FAR from the palace) and so it would have taken roughly that amount of time to get there by foot.)
luv2read4reading: :)
Someone the World Forgot: What would it be about?
buerkat: :)
Also, to the person who compared the ending of this story to the ending of Allegiant, I just wanted to tell you that your review was awesome. :)
Until Next Time...
