Pogue's POV

Pogue lay in his bed, hands behind his head, staring at the ceiling in the dark. Tomorrow would be the day they would confront Chase again. It wasn't like Pogue wasn't looking forward to the chance to punch that smug face of his but knowing that the guy was actually Scarlett's brother… it changes things. Not to mention the fact that the whole reason they were going was to see if Nova was actually a traitor. Pogue hoped to all the deities that she wasn't because he honestly didn't know how Scarlett would react to the news. Scarlett… Pogue was sure glad that he was on their side after seeing what she could do. They hadn't discussed it yet, 'it' being Scar.

"Pogue go to sleep, I can hear you staring." Came Caleb's sleep filled voice.

Pogue smirked, "No you can't."

"Yeah I can."

"No you can't!"

"Yes I can!"

"You can't!"

"I can!"

"You cannot!"

"Can too!"

"Cannot!"

Caleb sighed and Pogue knew he had won this round. "Just go to sleep, if everything goes to hell tomorrow I want you to be awake."

"Yeah… I just hope it doesn't go there." Pogue said quietly before rolling onto his side. Tomorrow was going to be one hell of a long day.

School always seemed to take longer when you had something important to do but finally the final bell rang through the halls of Spencer. Pogue caught Caleb's eye, time to find Nova. Seeing as the boys weren't able to figure out where or when Nova and Chase would be meeting they had decided that they would just have to tail her.

The only problem with that was that they didn't want Scarlett to know, which meant that Pogue had to find a way to ditch her…

Turning to say something to the girl in question Pogue had only opened his mouth when Scarlett said, "I have to do some stuff today, nothing major but it'll probably take up the rest of the day, but I'll see you tomorrow, yeah?"

"Umm yeah, sure." He stammered as Scarlett stood to leave, pausing to plant a kiss on his cheek first. "Stay safe, yeah?" he added.

She rolled her eyes, but the redness of her cheeks belated the action, "I will."

Pogue's eyes trailed after the woman, falling on her arse as she left the room, a smirk creeping on to his face. Once Scarlett had left he stood, making eye contact with Caleb.

On a silent signal the elder warlock politely excused himself from the conversation with Sarah and joined him, together the two moved to the door where Reid and Tyler waited. "Alright I just texted Nova, she said that she was busy." Reid said when they joined them, a grim expression on his face. Pogue felt for the younger boy, he knew that Reid didn't want to believe that Nova could be betraying Scarlett and by extension them but so far the odds weren't in her favour.

"That doesn't necessarily mean that she's with Chase." Caleb reassured. "We just have to find her and make sure that she doesn't do anything that she'll regret. You never know, we may not even have any reason to worry."

Tyler and Pogue nodded their agreement, but their smiles were tight and Pogue knew that Reid would see that they were forced.

Scarlett's POV

"Ok so let's just go over this again." Scarlett said, pacing her dorm room nervously as she tried to focus her mind on the take at hand.

Nova rolled her eyes but complied, "We wait until Beamster finishes for the day and is leaving the car park. When he goes to reverse I will, in animal form, run into the side of his car. You will come out, screaming preferably. He'll stop and you'll tell him that you know a local vet. You will ask him to take you. Direct him out to the field and there I will stop the car. You give him the truth serum and we will finally get to the bottom of this whole angel thing."

Scarlett nodded. It was a simple plan but it could go wrong at any moment. Before, when she still believed her mother's teachings, Scarlett had learned the importance of taking all possible variables into consideration. Back then she would have found ways to eliminate any variables that may interfere with her plan, living or otherwise. Now though things were different. Now she had to try to find peaceful solutions to any and all situations… but with Chase still on the loose somewhere… well she wasn't exactly at ease with the possible outcomes his presence may ensure.

Still she had to do something. "It's not the greatest of plans but it should get the job done."

Pogue's POV

The four Sons of Ipswich watched from the roof of Spencer Academy as the two girls they had been tailing cautiously watched around the corner of the building.

"What are they up to?" Caleb questioned aloud, though Pogue doubted that he expected an answer.

The four had been following the girls for the last five hours. For the most part the two hadn't really done much, just relaxing in Scarlett's room. To be honest the guys had begun to get bored and were on the verge of calling it quits when suddenly the two just leapt into action. The guys had followed them via roof top as they made their way to the teachers' parking lot.

Tyler had just opened his mouth to say something when the door to the building opened and a ridiculously tall man walked out, playing with the phone in his hand for a moment.

"Hey isn't that the new teacher, Mr… Beamster right?" Reid asked.

"Yeah, he and Scarlett knew each other before coming here." Pogue said thoughtfully. "They must know each other pretty well, he gave her a ride home after our… 'date'." He added when the others looked at him.

Looking back Pogue's eyes widened as Nova shifted into a golden retriever and ran at the car that the teacher had just gotten into. There was a loud banging sound as the girl-turned-dog threw herself at the metal. Shocked the boys watched perplexed, as Scarlett smirked before rushing out, shouting panicked words as Mr Beamster jumped out of his car, looking shocked.

A few words were hurriedly exchanged between the two before the man gently lifted the girl-dog up and placed her onto the back seat of the car. Scarlett climbed into the passenger side and with a glance at her friend, directed the man as they drove off.

For a heartbeat the boys simply watched the car drive away. "What the hell was that?" Tyler asked, breaking the silence.

Pogue gaped for a moment before saying, "They have to have some sort of plan right, and a reason behind… that" he said, gesturing at the now empty car park.

"I hope so," Caleb said slowly. "Come on, let's go find out."

Scarlett's POV

"A little further." Scarlett stated, both directing the man beside her and informing the girl-dog in the back.

"Are you sure this is the right way?" Beamster – 'Demetri' Scarlett reminded herself – asked warily.

"Yeah. The sky sure is clear tonight." She said, bracing herself for the inevitable jolt that would follow her words.

Once Nova heard the code word she shifted back into her human form, placed a hand on the car and turned off the engine.

Scarlett pulled the syringe from her pocket and removed the plastic cap. However before she had a change to inject the man with the serum inside, he was already out the door. "Damn it!" she mutter before following.

Using the car as leverage she leapt at the teacher. Demetri, however, ducked swiftly to avoid her. "Come on Scarlett, surely we can talk about this!" he said.

"Sure, why don't you start by telling me what the hell you are?" Scarlett retorted with a smirk.

Demetri pulled a long silver blade from a hidden sheath, "I could ask you the same thing!" she said, before lashing out. Scarlett dodged easily thanks to her training, and sent a round house kick to the man's solar plexus, causing him to stumble back.

"Why are you trying to 'eliminate' me?" she demanded, lunging forward to try to stab the needle into his arm.

Demetri sidestepped her growling lowly, "I'm not!"

"Oh I bet you say that to all your targets!" Scarlett snarled back, rolling away from his side kick.

"You're not my target!" Demetri shouted, blocking her punches.

"Sure, sure!" came another voice from behind him and before Demetri could react Nova squeezed a pressure point in his neck, knocking him out. "Now don't you think that using the pressure point technique I showed you would have been easier?" she said.

"Well how is he supposed to talk when his unconscious genius!?" Scarlett demanded.

Before Nova had a change to reply a slow clapping echoed through the field around them drawing their attention. "Bravo ladies! Very entertaining!"

Scarlett felt her blood run cold at the familiar voice. Quickly stashing the syringe she spun on her heel. Dropping into a fighting stance at the familiar face, "Chase."

"Hello sister dear, so glad I could see you again. I must say I was surprised to see your guest was a Halfling but then you always were bringing strays home." Chase said in an eerily sweet voice and for a moment the memories of the past clouded Scarlett's vision and it wasn't Chase standing before her (Chase with the cold glares, taunting smirks and venomous tongue) but her brother, Gabriel (sweet Gabriel, all warm hugs and kind smiles and 'hush Letta it was just a bad dream, I'm here. I'm always going to be here').

Scarlett shook her head, eyes tightly closed, "What are you doing here?" she demanded.

"Now now is that anyway to talk to your big brother? After I went to all the trouble of setting up this little meeting?" Chase shook his head before adding, "But then I can't take all the credit. Give it up for my beautiful assistant… Nova Stone!"
