Chapter 21
Paul turned off the TV and stretched. Evie was lying next to him sound asleep. Jacob and Bella were on the other couch asleep. They cancelled out on movie night at Sam and Emily's. Evie wasn't up for company and Bella didn't want to leave her. In the end it worked out. The girls made dinner and they settled in to watch TV. But Evie kept asking them questions about the wolf gene. He was happy Jacob was able to answer a lot of the questions.
Bella explained about the Cullen's and her relationship with them. The story she told of a cold one named James hunting her all the way to Phoenix surprised him. Evie had tears in her eyes but was angry the Cullen's allowed James to get close enough to bite Bella. As much as Jacob hated Cullen, he was thankful Edward sucked out the venom. Evie slightly shook when they told her how the Pack saved Bella from a vamp who was a friend of James. They didn't give too much detail how they took him down.
They all told their own point of view when they explained about the newborn battle and the red head who orchestrated the entire attack. Paul told how the pack planned out their surprise attack on the newborns and how they worked with the Cullen's. He told her how it was difficult to trust the Cullen's but in the end the plan worked.
Jacob told them all about what happen in the tent. The conversation he had with the leech. Bella told them all of the vision she had when she kissed Jacob on the mountain. Evie held Bella when she confused wanting Edward to change her into a cold one. The hurt look on Evie's face had Bella in tears. It took a while to calm Bella down. She described how Victoria and Riley found her, Edward and Seth. They fought hard to defeat the leeches.
After they finished telling her how in the end they defeated the newborns, Evie looked at Jacob and Bella. It took a few moments before they explained how Jacob was hurt by a newborn. The story they told of him being hurt in a motorcycle accident. Evie was surprised so much happen under her nose when she was first visiting. She leaned on Paul as they talked about the attack she and Bella went through with the nomad vampires.
It took a while for Evie to finally fall asleep. He inhaled Evie's honey scent and relaxed. For a moment he almost lost her when he explained about the imprint. The thought of losing her over something he had no control over was the scariest moment of his life. Well second scariest after she was attacked by a cold one. It was a good thing Jacob dealt with it because honestly the treaty would have been null and void as he fried that son of a bitch, Ed the leech ward.
"What are you grumbling about?" Jacob asked yawning. He shifted over as Bella turned. He leaned down and kissed her neck.
"The fucking leech," Paul grounded out through clenched teeth. He took a steady breath. "After what he pulled, he's lucky I didn't get to him." He moved a strand of hair that fell over Evie's face. He loved the way the braid left her hair curly and soft. He couldn't keep the smile off his face as she snuggled closer to him.
"Trust me I wanted to," Jacob seethed. He looked away for a moment. "But Jasper and Emmett showed up with Carlisle." It was chaos as Edward tried to get to Bella. "Jasper used his powers and Emmett carried Eddie Boy to the car." If Bella hadn't called him, they would have been too late. He shook his head not wanting to think of the outcome.
"What the fuck is wrong with him? How could he send rogue vamps?" Paul asked disgusted.
"He intended for two vamps to attack," Jacob said angrily. "He was going to swoop in and save the day. Be the hero." Damn it, his anger was getting the best of him. "I'm gonna grab something to eat." He gently pulled away from Bella. He made sure she was completely covered before going into the kitchen. If Jasper hadn't used his power to calm the situation, there's no telling what he would have done to the bloodsucker.
Paul kissed Evie as he covered her. A smile appeared on her face. He headed towards the kitchen. Jacob was pulling out the enchiladas from the fridge. He grabbed a couple of plates and some utensils. They loaded up their plates and took turns heating up their food. They sat at the table. Paul reached back in the fridge and grabbed some sodas.
They were half way through their food when Paul finally spoke. "The leech isn't going to give up man," he stated. "He made that pretty clear." He leaned forward with his elbows on the table. "Do you honestly think Doc Fangs will be able to control him?"
Jacob put his fork down and placed his elbows on the table as he clasped his hands together. "No, I don't trust Cullen one bit. He won't let go of Bells because it's in his nature to pursue his prey," he answered. Anger was rolling off of him. "Sam believes they will leave now." He gave a low rumble of a growl.
"You don't think he will leave," Paul stated in the same rumbling growl. "There's only one way this will end and you know it." He finished the last of his food and drink. The food was good. He'd have to ask Evie to make it for him again.
"I think in his sick and demented mind he believes Bella will go back to him," Jacob said angrily. He finished his food and placed his plate in the sink. He leaned against the counter crossing his arms. "I think we need to figure out what he's up to before we're too late."
"I agree," Paul stated as he got up. "But Sam isn't going to let us run surveillance on them." He placed his plate in the sink and pushed Jacob out of the way.
"What are you doing?" Jacob asked pushing him back.
"I need to wash the dishes," Paul answered shoving him to the side. "Evie likes a clean kitchen and I'm not about to get in trouble because your too much of a slob to wash your dishes." He turned the water on and grabbed a sponge with dish soap.
Jacob laughed as he watched him. He went to the fridge and grabbed a soda. "How the hell is your fridge fully stocked?" He took a drink.
"Evie noticed there wasn't much food," Paul continued to wash the plates. He didn't want to face Jacob. "She offered to buy some food since she would be here and I took it the wrong way." He chuckled as he remembered the outcome of the argument.
"Make up sex," Jacob commented. He laughed. "Bella and I had that same argument." He rubbed the back of his neck.
"Look," Paul turned the water off and turned around. "I know I gave Bella a hard time when she was with the leech. But after seeing her with you and how much she cares for Evie, I'm willing to cut her some slack." He held up a hand when Jacob was about to interrupt. "If something were to happen to Bella, Evie would be devastated and I can't let that happen. As odd or weird as this is between us, I'm going to give it hundred percent because I refuse to see Evie go through that pain of loss again." He held out his hand.
Jacob looked at him for a moment. He shook Paul's hand. "I know it took a lot for you to say that," he lightly punched Paul in the arm. "We may be brothers because of the Pack but we're brothers because of those two in there," he pointed to the living room. "I promise to give this a hundred percent too but I will always look out for Evie." He ran his hand through his hair. "If something happen to Evie, I'm not sure Bella could deal with it." They both nodded and headed back to the living room.
"This is all on your shoulders Baby Alpha," Paul teased as he lay down on the couch. He smiled when Evie wrapped her legs around his. She snuggled close to his chest and sighed.
"Sure, sure," Jacob muttered. He kissed Bella's cheek as she mumbled his name in her sleep. He had big grin on his face.
It didn't take long for them to fall asleep. They were both happily wrapped around the women they loved. The peaceful bliss they found themselves in was enough to let their guard down, at least for the moment.
Evie finished chopping the bell peppers and onions and placed them in the pan to fry. Bella finished kneading the dough and began to cut circles for biscuits. The bacon was cooking so was the sausage. Evie turned on the radio as Bella put the biscuits in the oven. They were laughing and having fun. They moved to the beat of the music.
Bella placed the chopped potatoes in the fry pan and added seasoning. She hummed along to the song with Evie. They looked at each other and grabbed the spoons from the stove and began to sing into them. They did a little dance and bumped hips.
"Aren't you two having fun," Jacob chuckled as the girls gasped as they turned around with their hands over their chests. "Sorry I didn't mean to scare you girls." He walked over to Bella but reached out and messed up Evie's hair.
"Don't mess with perfection," Evie laughed pulling her hair into a ponytail. She stirred the peppers and lowered the pan.
"I take it you slept well," Bella teased as she lightly kissed Jacob. He groaned when she pulled away. "Down boy, you can wait a while." She laughed when he peppered her face with kisses.
Evie moved the radio and placed a bowl on the counter along with a carton of eggs. She began cracking the eggs in the bowl. She looked out the window over the sink and noticed it was lightly raining. She thought of her dad. He was picking up her grandparents in the afternoon. She and Bella were heading to the store in Forks to pick up some last minute supplies for Nana's dinner tonight.
She knew Paul had just walked into the kitchen. The ocean and woods scent relaxed her. She smiled when he wrapped his arms around her waist.
Paul nuzzled her neck and inhaled deeply. It still angered him to know the leech almost took her away from him. He moved his lips to her ears. "Morning beautiful," he said in a low voice.
"Morning handsome," Evie replied. She leaned back into him as she continued cracking eggs.
"Mmm," he hummed against her neck. "Smells so good." He would never get tired of having her in his arms.
"Thank you," she said smiling. "The food should be ready soon." She finished cracking the last egg and pulled out a whisk and began to beat the eggs.
"I was talking about you," he said. He chuckled at how responsive her body was to him. "How does your head feel?" he asked looking at her stitches. He was careful to not touch them.
"Its fine, no pain," she replied. "But my ribs were hurting earlier." She stopped what she was doing when he lifted her tank top up. "Babe, I'm trying to get breakfast ready." She rolled her eyes.
He moved his fingers around the bruised area. "How does it feel now?" he questioned taking a deep breath.
"I'm good Paul," she put her hand on her hip. "Hey," she tapped his forehead. "Right here," she pointed to her lips and he gave her a quick kiss.
He wrapped his arms around her and took a steady breath to relax. Her honey scent surrounded him, letting him know she was fine. He nibbled on her earlobe and ran his teeth along her neck and shoulder as he gently bit. He groaned in her neck when he smelled her arousal. He noticed her neck turn red. "Sorry babe." He felt her tense up.
"It's okay," she replied not looking at him. She tapped his hands and she moved to the stove. "I just have to get use to the Pack being able to know intimate things." She poured the eggs into the pan. Out of the corner of her eye she could see Jacob and Bella whispering.
Paul leaned against the counter and watched Evie. She was tapping her fingertips against her lips. It was nervous habit of hers. He pulled her hand away from her lips and kissed her palm. She pulled him over to her and wrapped his arm around her waist.
"You okay?" he asked leaning into her neck. Her heart was beating a little fast.
"I will be," she replied looking at him and smiling. "Are you going with me later?" She stirred the eggs a few more times and shut off the burner. She turned around in arms.
"I can't," he answered upset. He could see the disappointment in her eyes.
"You have to patrol?" she asked trying hard not to show how worried she was.
"Yeah with Seth," he answered. He caressed her cheek. "Sam's been letting me slide on patrol so I could spend time with you." He was pissed he couldn't be with her when she went into Forks to go shopping.
"Now it's time to get back to work," she concluded with a smirk. She rubbed his chest. "I understand about patrolling but will I see you later. I know Valisa and Marshall would love to see you." She rubbed his arms.
"Of course I'm seeing you later," he replied quickly. "Valisa is cooking your favorite food." He rubbed his stomach making her laugh.
"Typical male," she laughed. "Sit down and I'll serve you." He kissed her before sitting down.
Bella handed Evie a plate. "We'll talk later," she said placing four strips of bacon and sausage on the plate.
"Okay," Evie replied. She loaded potatoes, sausage, bacon and eggs on the plate. She smiled thinking Paul's huge appetite had to do with him being a wolf not so much as a growing guy. It was a good thing she stocked up the fridge and cupboards for him.
She kissed the top of his head as she placed the plate in front of him. Bella passed her the orange juice and she poured Paul a glass. She was about to make a plate for herself when Bella handed her one. "Thanks," she said with a small laugh. Bella rolled her eyes as they sat down.
"What did you tell Uncle Derek about Evie last night?" Bella asked taking a bite of her bacon.
Paul took a steady breath. This was his chance to show he was going to make an effort. He wiped his mouth and held Evie's hand. "I told him she fell asleep watching a movie," he answered. "He immediately said not to wake her and he was fine with her staying the night." He took a drink of his juice.
"That's Derek," Evie replied. "He and my mom never really worried as long as I was with the guys." She shrugged and took a bite of her food.
"But you never stayed at a boyfriends house," Paul stated looking at Evie.
"True," Evie said slowly. "But no one really liked Dylan at all." She took a drink of her juice.
"I'm surprised Toby or Dave didn't beat the crap out of him," Jacob stated with a bit of anger. He took a bite of his food and grabbed Bella's hand.
"They wanted to but Evie wouldn't let them," Paul responded. He gave her a big smile. "Dave might have let it slip." He finished his food and moved her plate towards her.
"Is that your way of saying you want more?" Evie asked with a laugh.
"Please," Paul pouted before he kissed her.
Evie picked up her plate and Paul's. She placed her plate in the sink and served him everything again. The plate she fixed for him was bigger than the one before. Bella was doing the same for Jacob. Evie placed the plate in front of Paul. He began scooping food into his mouth. She went to the sink and began washing the dishes and pans. There wasn't much food left except a scoop of potatoes and eggs. The guys laughed and talked while she finished cleaning. She dried her hands and walked over to Paul. She wrapped her arms around his neck.
"I'm going upstairs to shower and change," Evie said against his ear. "Bella and I have to get all the shopping done before Nana gets to the house." She kissed his cheek and headed for the stairs.
Paul looked at Jacob and Bella. "Sorry but I need to take care of my girl," he smirked as he took off after Evie. She was half ways up the stairs when he scooped up her legs out from under her making her scream and laugh at the same time. He carried her bridal style and ran the rest of the way until he reached the bathroom.
Jacob looked up at the ceiling and grimaced. "He is such an asshole," he grumbled.
Bella laughed as she picked up her plate and placed in the sink. She began to wash the dishes but stopped and turned around. "Aren't our dads fishing today?" she asked with a raised eyebrow.
"Yeah, Rachel is in Seattle visiting her 'friend'," he answered with air quotes. He stabbed his fork into a piece of egg. "What does that have to…wait?" He dropped his fork and jumped up. Bella grabbed Evie's keys from the counter and tossed them to him. He picked her up and headed for the door.
"We'll be back to pick up Evie before your patrol," Bella shouted as she laughed.
They headed straight to Evie's SUV and took off.
Paul took his time moving in and out of Evie as he held her against the wall in the shower. He was working on giving her a third orgasm. He knew she was still sore. The bruise that ran along her hip and thigh was worse than yesterday. But her body turned him on and made his dick hard. It didn't help when she grabbed him and began moving her hand along his shaft as she kissed his chest. He slowly slid back into her. The way she began to tense up and squeeze around him made them happy. They knew she was close to her release.
Evie deepened the kiss as her fingers moved through his hair. The slow pace was driving her crazy. As much as she wanted him to go fast and hard this was more intense. The slow build of her orgasm seemed to pull from every cell of her body. He moved his lips over her jaw leaving a hot trail of kisses.
"Oh Paul," she moaned squeezed her thighs. She raked her fingers over his shoulders.
"Fuck…so good…fuck," he moaned into her neck.
"Don't stop…so close…Paul…so damn good," she moaned in his ear tightening her hold around his neck. The growl that erupted out of him had her inner walls clench down on him as she exploded around him.
He couldn't hold back after feeling her release. He grabbed her legs from around his waist and held them wide open. He pounded into her as she clamped down on his shoulders. The wolf was howling but Paul tried to push him back.
She looked at him and held the gasp that almost passed her lips. His eyes had a yellow circle around the iris. She held his face and stared into his eyes. "I love you," she simply said.
His orgasm rocked his body. He let go of her legs and wrapped his arms around her. The look in her eyes calmed the wolf and the man. He lowered her gently to the ground and held her.
"He wants to mark you," he said breathless.
She nodded against his chest. "It's not the first time he's tried," she stated a bit out of breath. The soreness she felt earlier seemed ten times worse.
"How do you know?" he asked removing the condom. He grabbed the body wash and began to soap up her body.
"I've seen the yellow around your iris before," she answered. "I thought it was figment of my imagination or the light reflecting off your eyes." She bit her lip when he moved over her ribs.
He washed between her legs being careful not to brush against her ribs. She was still biting her lip. "I'm sorry beautiful," he said with a bit of guilt. "We should have waited until you were fully healed." He helped rinse her off and wrapped a towel around her.
"I'm not complaining," she declared before kissing him.
She made her way to the bedroom and felt every muscle in her body screaming at her. It was worth it though. She missed being with him. It wasn't just the sex but it was him, being in his arms as they talked and laughed. They had some great conversations which made her fall even more in love with him.
She pulled some clothes from the dresser. Paul insisted she keep some clothes here in case she needed to change. Personally she had a feeling he was trying to slowly move her in. It didn't take her long to get dressed but the jeans rubbed her hip and it wasn't comfortable. She brushed her hair and sat on the bed as he walked in naked with a towel over his shoulder.
He grabbed a pair of cutoff shorts and put them on. "You know," he subtly began. "I spent every night outside your window." He kneeled down in front of her and held her face between his hands.
"It was probably why I always felt safe," she said. She searched his eyes trying to find out what he was thinking or feeling. She placed her hands over his wrists and took a deep breath.
"You ready to talk about Embry?" he asked with a sly smile. He lifted her chin to close her mouth and kissed her forehead.
She opened her mouth again but quickly closed it. The smile on his lips had her shaking her head. Of course he knew. "How did you know it was Embry?" she asked getting up and going to the dresser. She pulled out a pair of leggings. "Who else knows?" she asked taking off her pants. He stood in front of her running his finger along the waist of her panties.
"You treat him like Jerry," he laughed. It's just me who knows but eventually everyone will know," he stated. "Not that I mind you undressing but why?" he asked curiously. He licked his bottom lip before biting it.
She brushed his hands way and put her leggings on making him frown. "My pants were rubbing against my hip," she explained. "There's more than just Embry being my brother." She ran her hand through her hair.
"You're scared he'll reject you," he said straight out as he pulled her down on his lap. "Look, I know Embry. He's wondered about his father since he was a kid." He wiped a tear that slid down her cheek.
She took a deep breath. "Derek wants to tell him tomorrow," she stated. There was a lot going on and it seemed to only get worse. "I feel this need to protect him from Mitchell." She raised her eyebrow when he chuckled. "I know as a wolf he can handle himself. But Mitchell doesn't want anything to do with Embry. The thought of Embry getting his hopes up worries me." She got up looking for her shoes.
"Your shoes are downstairs," he said. He pointed towards the door and headed downstairs.
She followed him down the stairs trying to figure out how to ask him about the wolf gene. She knew the last Pack consisted of Ephraim Black, Levi Uley and Quil Ateara II and the wolf gene was passed on through them. Since Embry was a wolf and Leah's a wolf would she be a wolf too? Now that she was attacked by cold ones would it trigger the change?
"So which of the three families are you and Embry related to?" he asked tossing her the shoes.
She sat down and put them on. "If I'm related to a direct descendant does that mean I'll change into a wolf too?" she asked looking worried. "I mean Leah's a wolf and….I don't want to be a wolf." She got up and began to pace.
"Evie," he started to say as he watched her.
"It's okay for you to see me naked but I don't anyone else…Oh god," she cried as she fell to the floor. "My brother." She covered her face. "I don't want to see him naked." Her heart was beating a mile a minute.
Paul dropped to the ground next to her trying not to laugh. Evie's mini breakdown was actually funny to watch. "Shortness, you're not going to phase into a wolf," he calmly stated as he pulled her hands away from her face.
"You don't know that," she huffed in a disbelieving tone.
He caressed her cheek with his index finger. "If you were going to phase," he said in the same calming voice. "Being around cold ones would have set off the high temperature wolves run." He picked her up and carried her to the couch. "But if you did phase, I would have to kill everyone one of my Pack Brothers. Only we get to see you naked." He pulled her on to his lap and held her.
"Sorry for freaking out," she mumbled as she rested her head against his chest.
"It's a lot to take in," he said rubbing her back. He was just thankful she was still here.
She looked up at him. "Yes, it is," she confirmed. The look in his eyes told her everything. "But I'm still here." She sat up a bit straighter.
"If you tried to leave I would hunt you down and dragged you back," he stated before leaning his forehead against hers. "Go caveman on your ass."
"That might be fun," she laughed. His warmth relaxed her as she laid her head on his shoulder.
"We'll have to try it later," he sighed. "Jake and Bella are heading this way." She pulled away to look at him. He pointed to his ears. "I recognize your car." She rolled her eyes and shook her head. "And Seth just got here." He pointed to the back door.
She gave him a quick kiss and got up holding his hand. "Is it normal to feel worried?" she asked.
He stared up into her hazel eyes. The fear he saw in them made him take a heavy breath. "It's normal," he finally answered. "But we patrol in two's. The rest of us are usually within a few miles of each other." He got up and held her. The shiver that ran through her body made him hold her tighter.
"Will you call me when you're done?" she asked. It was the first time he would patrol with her knowing. The thought of something happening to him or anyone else, scared her.
"Of course I'll call you," he chuckled. She pulled away and glared at him. "Sorry, I know it's not funny but seriously Shorty, we take care of each other. Nothing is going to happen to me." He gave a quick squeeze.
"Nothing better happen," she threaten as she went to open the front door. "Or you'll regret it." She knew what she said didn't make sense. But if he got hurt protecting La Push and Forks there would be no safe place for anyone to hide. She'd lost too much and there was no way she was going to lose anyone else.
"How much trouble is Paul in now?" Jacob asked laughing. He moved to the side to let Bella walk in first. "Hey Seth," he called out before the back door opened.
"Hey Jacob," Seth cheerfully called out. He closed the back door. He opened the fridge and began looking around for food.
"Get out of the fridge bottomless pit," Paul said looking towards the kitchen.
Evie rubbed Paul's chest. "Eat whatever you want Seth," she said. She turned towards Bella and Jacob. "Paul's not in trouble. I'm just wondered about him patrolling, now that I know how dangerous it can be." She wrapped her arm around his waist.
"I know how you feel," Bella confessed as she wrapped her arms around Jacob. "Yes, I know you can take care of yourself," she pulled away to look at him. "But I worry none the less." She leaned her head against his chest.
Jacob kissed the top of her head as he wrapped his arms around her. "I always come home to you," he spoke directly into her ear. "Always."
"Evie these are some good enchiladas," Seth said between bites. "Next time invite me over." He took a drink of water and continued to eat.
"Please tell me you didn't finish the rest," Paul scowled. He growled when Seth smirked and took a step back.
Evie pulled Paul's face down and kissed him. She wrapped her arms around his neck and broke the kiss. "Run Seth," she quietly said before kissing Paul again.
He wanted to pull away from her and kick Seth's ass but her lips felt too good to leave. He lifted her up and pinned her against the wall. The low grumble from Jacob irritated him but he let it go. Kissing Evie was the only thing that mattered. The kiss was slow and sensual. There was no need to rush it. He needed to remember every curve of her mouth. The taste of her lips and tongue were slowly etched into his brain. He slowly pulled away resting his forehead against hers.
"We'll be outside Evie," Bella laughed. She pulled Jacob out the door.
"We will finish this later," he stated trying to catch his breath.
"Yes we will," she said out of breath. She bit her lip as he slid her down his body. "Don't hurt Seth too badly." She gave him a wink as her hand grazed across the bulge in his shorts.
He quickly threw his hands against the wall caging her between them. "You are so going to pay for teasing me," he smirked before letting out a low growl. A shiver ran through her body causing him to moan as her arousal hit him.
"I feel a little embarrassed knowing you can smell when I'm aroused," she said with a shake of her head. "This entire time you've known." She patted his chest getting some space between them. The look in his eyes worried her. "What's wrong?" she touched his cheek.
He closed his eyes as he leaned into her touch. "I'm worried this will be too much for you to handle and you'll leave. Just like everyone else in my life," he stated taking a deep breath.
She tapped his cheek making him open his eyes. "You have no faith in me," she said. The sadness in her voice had her looking at the ground as she lowered her hand from his face. "I need to go shopping." She leaned up on her tippy toes and gave him a quick kiss before ducking under his arm.
He stood there for a moment knowing he majorly fucked up. He was projecting his fears of abandonment on Evie. His hand flew straight into the wall leaving a huge hole. The small cuts and scrapes on his hand were already starting to heal. Great, he thought, one more thing to scare her with. He ran his hand through his hair as he took off outside.
Jacob was loading the groceries in the back of Evie's SUV. The girls were putting the flowers they bought in the back seat. He opened the cookies and was munching on them as he worked. It wasn't like they would miss the cookies or anything. He tossed two cookies in his mouth and finished loading the last of the bags.
"Evie," Wyatt shouted across the parking lot. She turned in his direction and smiled. He couldn't believe his luck. She was alone and he could finally make his move. "Funny seeing you here," he said jogging over to her with a big smile.
"Wyatt, hey how's it going?" Evie asked with her hand on the door handle.
He stopped short when he noticed Jacob Black coming around from the back of the SUV. "I thought you were alone." He noticed Bella Swan was sitting in the passenger seat. The smile on his face turned into a frown.
"No she's not alone Wyatt," Jacob stated as he leaned against the SUV and crossed his arms. He could tell Wyatt was sniffing around Evie. It was a good thing Paul wasn't here.
"I can see that Jacob," Wyatt mumbled. He rubbed the back of his neck before looking at Evie. "I was thinking we could get together later or maybe some time this weekend to work on our project." He tried to ignore the glaring look Jacob was giving him.
"Oh, I'm sorry but I'm busy all weekend," Evie replied opening the door. "We could work on it during lunch or maybe after school." She got in the car and closed the door. She quickly rolled down the window. Jacob was still standing against the car.
"After school would work," Wyatt answered with a big smile. "My house is usually empty since my parents work late." He tried to lean against the car but instead slipped and almost fell.
Evie and Bella tried not to laugh but Jacob let out a booming laugh. Wyatt turned crimson red.
"We can work at my house," Evie suggested as she coughed to cover the small laugh Bella gave. "I'll see you Monday." She started the car and rolled up the window. She gave him a small wave as Jacob got into the back seat.
"You know Paul will be at your house," Jacob pointed out before shoving a couple of cookies in his mouth.
"I know," Evie responded. "It's the reason I suggested my house." She winked at Jacob in the rearview mirror.
"I take it you're not mad at Paul," Bella questioned with a raised eyebrow.
Evie took a deep breath. "I wasn't mad at him just hurt," she replied. "You guys know the story of about his parents." It made her mad thinking about how they left Paul to fend for himself.
"He has the pack," Jacob said looking at Evie through the rearview mirror. "We may not always get along but we are family." He gave her shoulder a squeeze.
"Plus he has you and Derek," Bella patted Evie's hand. "It's the first patrol jitters."
Evie quickly looked at Bella. "The what?" she asked completely confused.
"It's the first time he's patrol with you knowing about it," Bella explained. "You're worried about him. It's normal. I worried a lot the first time. Actually I still worry but not as bad as the first time. Emily mentioned it's more intense because of the imprint. It's the connection you share with the man and wolf." She looked at Jake. Imprint or not you still worried.
"I think your right about the jitters but I also worry about the imprint not being complete. Paul will continue to have these fears of me leaving," Evie stated. "If I felt the imprint he wouldn't even worry but in a way I like having a normal relationship. We argue and disagree but at the end of the day we love each other." She shrugged.
"I felt the same way about Jacob," Bella admitted. "The thought of him imprinting on some random girl scared me." Jacob took her hand in his. "But the thought of never being with him scared me more. It made me realize I can't live without him. He's my personal sun." She placed a gentle kiss on his knuckles. "In that moment I knew I loved him enough regardless of the imprint." She smiled at him as a tear rolled down her cheek.
Jacob wiped the tear away. "I will never imprint," he said leaning close to Bella. "You're my choice." He kissed her forehead. "Always."
"Ahh, you guys are so cute," Evie gushed. She stopped at the light and noticed the dark clouds rolling in. "I hope it doesn't rain tomorrow."
As if the clouds could hear her, a light rain began to fall. They looked at each other and laughed.
"You jinxed it," Bella laughed. Her cell phone rang and she quickly dug around her purse. She pulled out her phone and frowned. "It's Alice." She hit the reject button and tossed it into her purse.
"Why is she calling you?" Jacob asked irritated. He leaned back and began to look around.
Bella looked over at Evie and noticed her twirling her hair with a far off look in her eyes. "The light's green Evie," she said tapping Evie in the shoulder.
"Oh, okay," Evie replied as she stepped on the gas.
"What are you thinking Evie?" Bella asked turning a little in her seat.
"Nothing," Evie replied looking a little to her left and letting her hair go. She caught the slight shift of Bella crossing her arms. "Okay, but it's nothing bad." Her fingers began to tap against her lips and she quickly placed her hand back on the steering wheel.
"What's going on in that head of yours?" Jacob asked looking at her in the rearview mirror.
"Alice said she's your friend," Evie began.
Jacob made a grumbling sound but stopped when Bella looked him.
Evie rolled her eyes before continuing. "Why didn't she warn you about those vampires attacking us?" she asked taking a quick glance at Bella. "I know you said the visions are subjective."
"They are," Bella confirmed but she began to bite her bottom lip.
"Bells, what is it?" Jacob asked rubbing his thumb over her lips.
"Why didn't Alice let Edward know it was false alarm when she thought I died after jumping off the cliff?" Bella asked in scared voice. "Alice and Edward are close. It's one of the reasons she got me to leave with her. She played on my guilt of Edward hurting himself because of me. It's the reason I went with her to Italy." She was looking at Jacob.
"If they are as close as you say," Evie said slowing down at the light. "Why didn't she see Jasper attacking you at your birthday party?" She turned to look at Bella.
"What if everything was a setup?" Jacob questioned.
"It would mean Alice and Edward planned his suicide attempt in Italy," Bella whispered as she began to shake.
"I always thought it was too much of a coincidence for the pixie to show up just as you and I were getting close," Jacob angrily stated. He held Bella's hands.
The light rain began to fall harder as Evie turned down her street. The trees were still green and full of leaves but soon autumn would be here and then winter. Her dad's car was parked in the driveway meaning her grandparents were inside.
"There's a reason they're still here," Jacob continued. He pulled out his phone and sent Sam a text. "Let's get the stuff inside. I have a feeling it's going to be a long night." He kissed Bella's hands as Evie parked the car.
"I know you are trying to figure a way to blame yourself," Evie said turning the car off. She turned to face Bella. "Don't start the blame game." She gave Bella a quick hug before getting out of the car.
Derek walked in the garage with a smile on his face. He gave Evie a hug. "Your Grandparents were practically bouncing off the walls waiting for you," he said pulling away. He grabbed a few bags and followed Jacob.
Evie smiled when she heard Valisa gushing all over Jacob. She turned to Bella. "You are about to lose your boyfriend," she laughed. "Valisa's dazzling him with her charm."
Bella grabbed Evie's arm, stopping her before going inside. "Dazzle," she whispered. "I always thought Edward dazzled me with his intense stare and smile. He would brush it off. What if that is exactly what he was doing?" she asked looking at the door.
"Do you think this was a setup from the beginning?" Evie whispered. She looked towards the door. "Was the entire family in on it?" She held Bella's hand when she began to shake.
"No, I don't think the family was involved," Bella replied taking a deep breath. "We'll talk later." She pulled Evie into the house.
"There's my favorite granddaughter," Marshall called out with a big smile on his face. Evie smiled and walked into his open arms. "I've missed you beautiful." He kissed the top of her head.
"I'm your only granddaughter Papa," Evie laughed looking up at him. "How was your flight?" She leaned against the counter as he gave Bella a hug.
"The flight was great. I slept the entire way," Marshall said with a smile.
"More like snored the whole way," Valisa stated from the doorway. "There's my sweetie pie," she said smiling.
"I missed you," Evie said hugging Valisa. "I'm so happy you and Papa are here." She wiped the tears from her cheeks.
"I missed you too sweetie," Valisa said through her own tears. She pulled away to get a good look at Evie. "You're not eating enough." She patted Evie's stomach.
"I'm eating," Evie laughed. "But I will definitely eat a lot better once you make my pot pie." She took a bite of her apple and leaned against the counter.
Valisa gave Bella a quick hug. "That can be arranged," she said pulling out some pots and pans. "Grab a cutting board sweetie and start on those vegetables." She pulled the chicken from the fridge.
"What can I do to help?" Bella asked looking around.
"Grab the flour and I'll show how to make the biscuits for the pot pie," Valisa answered with a big smile. "I've missed having a girl's day of cooking." She turned on one of the burners. She gave Marshall a kiss on the cheek before he walked away.
"Did Dad give you a tour of the house?" Evie asked as she rinsed off the vegetables.
"He did and I have to say," Valisa said as she seasoned the chicken. "The house is beautiful. We took the guest room near the back. I love the colors." She cleaned off her hands and stood next to Bella as she poured flour into a mixing bowl.
"You'll be the first ones to stay in there," Evie stated as she began to cut up a carrot. "Paul stayed in the other room." She bit her lip remembering the fun they had in the room.
"Where is my sugar pie?" Valisa asked. "I thought for sure he would be here ready to eat." She laughed when Evie rolled her eyes.
"You know him so well," Bella laughed.
"He's helping one of his friends," Evie replied. The kitchen was starting to smell like chicken. "But he will be here later." She grabbed another carrot and began to cut it up.
"Derek told us you've had contact with your brother," Valisa said looking at Evie. "I hope you don't get mad but we suggested not telling him just yet." She silently prayed Evie would hear her out before taking it the wrong way.
"Why didn't you say something?" Bella asked hurt. She stopped cutting the dough into to biscuits.
"I told you Derek found him," Evie quickly pointed out.
"But you never said you spoke to him," Bella snapped. She crossed her arms and glared at Evie. "I'm sure Paul and Jacob want to know who this guy is." She tried to convey the importance of all this to Evie. They had to keep the Pack's secret.
"Paul knows," Evie quietly said looking away. "It's a bit more complicated than we original thought." She looked at Valisa. "Dad and I were going to talk to him tomorrow but I think your right. There are some things we need to clear up before we drop all of this on my brother's lap." She leaned against the counter and took a deep breath.
"How complicated is it?" Bella asked in a softer tone. She looked towards the living room. Jacob was more than likely hearing everything.
"It involves a family from La Push," Evie finally said. "Derek is talking to Billy on how to handle the situation." She wiped her hands on a dish towel. "There's also the possibility my brother will reject me. Look at all the baggage our dear ole dad brings with him." She shook her head when Bella took a step towards her.
Valisa recognized the look on Evie's face. "How many people are coming over?" she asked turning towards the stove. "I would hate to run out of food." She looked at the two pots of chicken.
"Nana you could cook a whole cow and it still wouldn't be enough," Evie laughed. She grabbed the rest of the vegetables and began to wash them.
"How's school?" Valisa asked looking at both of them.
"I told you about my first day," Evie said raising her eyebrow at Valisa. "Still don't like that woman." She started to cut some celery.
"Sugar, that woman is desperate," Valisa scoffed. "She took advantage of a young impressionable boy." She pulled out a large pan to make the sauce.
"I don't think anyone has ever called Paul impressionable," Bella snickered with a shake of her head.
"I don't want to talk about my boyfriend and Ava," Evie said loudly. "Let's talk about something else." She bumped hips with Bella.
Jacob walked into the kitchen and tried to hide his smile. "Bells," he said placing his hands on her hips. "My dad called a few minutes ago. Your dad stopped to pick up Sue and Leah. They should be here in a few." He leaned down until he was next to her ear. "I am so teasing Lahote about how impressionable he is." He bit his lip to keep from laughing out loud.
"Don't," Bella scolded trying not to laugh. "If you do say something thing are bound to break. I doubt Derek wants his house torn apart." She kissed his cheek. "I think I left my bag in the car. Come with me." She cleaned her hands on the dish towel.
"Where are you two going?" Evie asked with a smirk.
"I left my bag in the car," Bella replied with a shake of her head. She looked in Valisa's direction but the older woman was preoccupied. "Evie and I came up with something before we walked into the house." She grabbed his hand and led him out towards the garage.
"Those two are good for each other," Valisa commented as she continued to stir the sauce.
"I always thought they would make a great couple," Evie replied. "I'm just glad my cousin opened her eyes before it was too late." She handed Valisa the bowl with all the cut up vegetables. She gave Valisa a kiss. "I'll be right back."
Evie walked past Derek's office where he and Marshall were going over some paperwork. She went straight to her room and pulled out the pain medication Dr. Cullen gave her. Her ribs and hip were hurting pretty bad from all the hugs and standing around. She took two pills and drank some water. She only needed to make it through the rest of the day before she could rest.
She caught a glimpse of herself in the mirror and frowned. Who was she trying to kid…she needed Paul to run interference so her grandparents and dad didn't notice anything. She let out a deep breath and winced when her ribs slightly throbbed at the intrusion. She got up and headed downstairs.
Everyone showed up except Sam and Jared. They had patrol until midnight and then Embry and Quil would take over. Luckily Emily and Kim were able to make it. It seemed it was better for the imprints to be surrounded by the Pack than left alone on the reservation.
Jacob sensed Evie was hurting and immediately made the introductions between the Pack and Marshall and Valisa. The guys took an instant liking to them. Especially when Valisa offered them tons of snacks as they waited for dinner.
As soon as Paul walked into the house he was swept into a hug from Valisa and Marshall. They asked him about school and kept him talking for almost twenty minutes. He was able to get away when Evie and Bella announced dinner was ready. They placed all the dishes on the dining table and everyone served themselves. They family room was connected to the kitchen which gave everyone enough room to eat and still socialize.
Paul pulled Evie into the hallway away from the kitchen. "How are you?" he asked moving her hair behind her ear. "Did you take the pain pills?" He knew she was in pain.
Evie wrapped her arms around him and let his warmth surround her. "I'm better now," she responded. "I took the pills." She rubbed his chest and felt him relax. "Do you think you can stay with me tonight?" she asked looking up at him.
"Yes," he answered. "I'm all yours babe." He held her close breathing in her scent. "We missed you so much." He knew she understood about the wolf missing her too.
"Let's get you something to eat," she suggested. "Bella's saving us a seat on the couch by the window." She laughed when he wrapped his arms around her waist and buried his face in the crook of her neck. His hot breath washed over her.
"The guys love the food," he said grabbing a plate. "Go sit down and I'll make you a plate." He kissed her. She saluted him and walked over to Bella and Jacob.
"Hey, where's your plate?" Bella asked moving over.
"Paul told me to sit down while he makes me a plate," Evie answered. She leaned back and watched everyone. There were quite a few conversations going on and most of the guys were getting second helpings. It was good thing Valisa made two more trays of food. The adults were in the living room leaving the rest of them to socialize.
Leah was walking by with Embry by her side. They were still uncomfortable with their relationship being in the open.
"I see you wore the sea green shirt," Evie said looking at Leah. "Bella was right the color is perfect on you."
Leah smiled when Embry took her hand. "Who knew Swan had any fashion sense?" She laughed when Bella gave her a dirty look.
"I have to agree," Evie said. "I'm surprised she can dress herself in the morning, unless of course Uncle Charlie lays out her clothes." Bella lightly punched Evie in the leg.
"I wasn't the one who walked around in a bathing suit for a year," Bella retorted trying not to laugh.
"I was three and excited about swimming," Evie said with a smirk. "But I wasn't the one who…" Bella covered Evie's mouth.
"Don't you dare," Bella threatened as she laughed. "We have way too much dirt on each other to play this game." She removed her hand. "Agree?"
"Agree," Evie said tapping her forehead against Bella's. "You are so lucky because mine was a good one." She leaned back against the couch.
"I want to know," Leah whined with a small smile. "Smith and Swan we are having a talk later." She gestured to them and herself.
"Later," Evie agreed. Leah let Embry pull her towards the food.
"Much later," Bella said settling against Jacob.
"What's up with the head butting?" Seth asked as he sat in the chair across from Evie.
"It was our way of calling a truce," Evie replied. She looked over towards the table. Paul was still getting food. She looked over at Bella and Jacob. They were whispering to each other. "Do you every feel like your eavesdropping?" she asked Seth.
"Yeah, but I try to tune it out," Seth answered. "It doesn't always work but it's the best any of us can do." He took a bite of his food and smiled.
"I know your upset honey," Jacob was leaning close to Bella. "But with the theory you and Evie came up with, Sam wants a Pack meeting." He rubbed her arm.
Bella turned to look at him and cupped one side of his face. "Yes, I'm upset," she began. They hurt look on his face had her ready to apologize but she needed to stop being weak. It was her turn to be strong for him, no for them. She looked around the room and knew each one of them could hear their conversation. "But it's not what you think." She took a deep breath and lowered her hand.
Paul took a seat next to Evie and handed her a plate. "Here you go gorgeous," he said. He kissed her temple and settle in next to her. He tried to ignore the conversation Jacob and Bella were having but it was a bit hard. "I see the kid was keeping you company." He nodded towards Seth.
"He tried to get me to run away with him," Evie said as she pretended to shutter.
Paul glared at Seth who had a deer in headlights look.
Evie began to laugh. "Paul it was a joke," she covered her mouth as she laughed.
"Not funny Evie," Seth grumbled.
Evie noticed Paul fidget. He was looking away from her. She looked at Bella and Jacob and noticed others were looking to. Try as hard as they could, it was still impossible to ignore a private conversation.
"I'm upset all of you have to attend a meeting for my mistake," Bella held Jacob's hand and shook her head slightly with he opened his mouth. "No, if I would have listened to you and Billy about Edward in the beginning, my cousin wouldn't have been attacked and you wouldn't have been hurt by the newborns." She felt a small tremor run through Jacob's body.
"What are you saying?" Jacob asked trying to contain the bit of anger he felt towards his nemesis.
"I'm part of the Pack too as well as the imprints," Bella stated. "We should be included in the meetings as well." She bit the inside of her mouth to keep from smiling. The shocked look on Jacob's face was priceless. "I'm not saying the day to day ones in regards to patrols but the other ones." Her heart felt like it was going to burst as it frantically beat inside her chest.
"What brought this on?" Jacob asked impressed. He gave her hand a squeeze.
"The Pack protects all of us," Bella began a little nervous. "Even from all the details of the things you all must do but we also know the burden you all carry around when you're away from the ones you love," she took a deep breath, "especially when there is a threat close by and definitely after an attack." She looked around and met each Pack member's eyes as well as the imprints. "We need to be more cautious when we leave the Res and I think being at the meetings like the one you are having later tonight will help us as well."
"I agree with Swan," Leah said looking at Bella. "I mean Bella." She gave the other girl a slight nod.
"I'll leave Sam a message," Embry quickly stated as he got up.
"Looks like you are staying with me," Paul softly said into Evie's ear. He nibbled on her ear making her softly moan.
"Down boy," Evie quietly moaned. She slightly shook her head no. "Ribs." She leaned against him. Quil burst out laughing
Paul glared at Quil who quickly closed his mouth.
"Tell you what," Evie looked up at him and ignored Quil. "If I'm still awake after the meeting," she licked her top lip and ran a finger down his chest. "I'm all yours." She smiled when a low growl passed his lips before he kissed her.
"I know you don't like coffee but you're drinking it tonight," Paul stated with a smirk.
Jacob looked around Sam and Emily's front yard. Every Pack member was present and the moon was out, casting a soft glow around them. Bella was sitting on his lap with his arms around her. The heat from his body kept the cold away.
"Seems my dad and your dad know how to throw a party," Bella scoffed with a soft laugh.
"And I believe I won ten bucks," Paul chuckled with his hand out. Jacob growled at him but reached into his back pocket for his wallet.
Evie took the money from Jacob and put it down her shirt. "I said they would drink too much and pass out," she kissed Paul and slapped his hand away when he tried to get the money. "You agreed with me."
"But Jacob and I shook on it," Paul grumbled as he pulled Evie closer. She was on his lap with a thick blanket around her to protect her ribs.
"But short stuff called it," Embry laughed as he messed up Evie's hair. She shooed his hand away.
"Don't mess with perfection," Evie scolded with glare. Embry glared back. They ended up laughing.
"You guys are so weird," Leah muttered as she rolled her eyes. She felt relaxed and enjoyed being with a group of people instead of alone at home.
"Not as weird as you," Seth chimed in. He took a step back when Leah took a swing.
"Everyone settle down and let's get this started," Sam called out as he took a seat next to Emily. She had a blanket wrapped around her. He took her hand and watched as everyone took a seat. He kissed the back of her hand.
Embry sat next to Paul with Leah next to him. He took her hand and began to rub little circles on the back of her hand. The tension she felt earlier seemed to leave her body. It wasn't easy for her to be under everyone's watchful eyes.
"Carlisle informed us a few hours ago," Sam said leaning forward as he gestured to Jared. "Edward left late last night to South America. They are all planning on leaving the area in the next month." He looked in Jacob and Bella's direction.
Jacob felt Bella relax against him. He tried to relax too but something was bugging him. He couldn't put his finger on it.
"I believe him but we will still keep up our patrol," Sam continued. "Embry and Quil are about to head out but I would like an additional person out with them." He was about to ask Jacob but Brady stood up.
"I'll run with Embry and Quil," Brady offered. He put his hands in his pockets. "I need to get out of the house for a while." He shrugged and walked to the edge of the trees.
"We still have a few minutes before we head out," Quil said looking over at Sam.
"I know," Brady shrugged. "But I figure I might as well get a head start. You guys can fill me in on the meeting later."
"Run an inside perimeter while Embry and Quil take the outside," Sam called out. Brady nodded and took off. Sam turned to face everyone else. "We all know the cold ones have special abilities." His Pack brothers all expressed their agreement.
"But their abilities are limited on Bella and Evie," Jacob stated as he pulled Bella closer to him.
"The leech couldn't read Evie or Bella's mind," Paul explained.
"Alice can't see the Pack," Bella added. "She was able to see where you were in the battle." Everyone looked at her making her feel uncomfortable. She blushed and began to shy away. Jacob squeezed her hand. She sat up straighter and looked around. "You are a blind spot to her and she used that to detect where you were in the battle." Everyone nodded.
"One of us needs to accompany the girls when they leave the Res," Sam instructed. "Like I said, I believe they will leave but I don't want to take any chances." He turned to Bella. "You suggested having the imprints here for the meeting. And I agree they all have a say when it comes to their safety but you all," he said looking at the imprints before returning his attention to Bella, "must understand and abide by the order given in regards to your safety. I can't have my brothers distracted while on patrol. They need to say focused and protect each other and the tribe." He looked at Evie when she turned to face him.
"And you all must understand," Evie began. "Bella and I do not leave on the Reservation." She leaned into Paul's warmth when a breeze began to swirl around them.
"Yet," Jacob and Paul said at the same time.
"Our families don't know what is going on," Bella reminded them. "We can't just up and leave and stay on the Res when you come across a cold one. My father will become suspicions if he hasn't already." She looked at Leah. "I'm sure Sue is feeling the pressure of keeping all of this from him." She held onto Jacob's hand.
Leah stared at Bella for a few minutes. Her mom mentioned the same thing before they went to Evie's. "She is struggling with keeping this from Charlie. It could break the relationship between them," she finally said with a heavy heart. Her mother was still suffering from the pain of losing her husband. But this thing with Charlie Swan made her mother smile she actually looked happy.
"It doesn't just affect our relationships with our parents," Embry mentioned cautiously. Everyone knew his mom drank a lot. She didn't care where he was as long as he provided her with enough money to get her alcohol. "It affects our parents relationship with everyone else." He rubbed the back of Leah's hand. "We know the council won't allow us to tell anyone but the imprints but it may be something to think about in the near future." He looked at Jacob knowing his best friend would soon take his place as Alpha.
Sam noticed most of the Pack was looking at Jacob. He cleared his throat before speaking. "It something to bring up at the next Council meeting," he said. He shifted uncomfortably. "Embry, Quil it's time to patrol." He stood up waiting for Emily to join him.
Embry stood up pulling Leah up with him. He knew when Sam looked in their direction. The tension began to fill the air. He felt Leah stiffen but the moment he placed his hand on the small of her back she immediately relaxed.
Leah followed Embry and Quil towards the trees. "Come by after your shift," Leah said leaning her head on his shoulder. "I'll make you breakfast." She knew Embry's mom Tiffany didn't have much food in the house.
"Cool," Quil smiled as he clapped Embry on the back. "We'll be there." He waved as he took off into the trees.
"You not invited," Leah called out. She heard Quil laugh. "He'll be the first one at the table." She glared in the direction Quil was in.
"Yes, I will," Quil said laughing.
Leah rolled her eyes.
"Don't worry about him," Embry said pulling her into his arms. "I'll rub your feet." She smiled and nodded yes. He gave her a quick kiss since they were still in view of the Pack. "Get some rest." He kissed her again and headed in after Quil who was making kissing sounds.
Leah turned and headed towards Seth. He was talking to Paul and Jacob. "Ready to head home baby brother?" she asked.
"Yeah," Seth answered. "I'll see you guys later." He waved to Bella and Evie. A glint of silver caught his eye before he caught a set of keys in his hand.
"You can drive," Leah said laughing as Seth jumped up and down.
"Hell yeah," Seth proudly said as he headed for the car.
Sam watched Leah walk away. It felt like she was walking away from him. These feelings he was having were playing with his head. He loved Leah but he wasn't in love with her. He should be happy for her and Embry. They deserved some happiness after everything the Pack had been through. He loved Emily and wanted to marry her.
He watched as everyone finally left. He waved to them from the porch before going inside. He took a deep breath knowing Emily was waiting to talk to him. The last thing he ever wanted to do was hurt her but the way he was acting towards Leah and Embry proved he failed. The hallway light was on casting shadows in the corners of the doorways.
The door to their room was open. He knew she was moving around the room, opening and closing drawers before he even saw her. There was a small bag on the bed. He stood by the door surprised and hurt.
"You're leaving," he asked in a scared voice. He stood by the foot of the bed.
Emily stopped packing and turned to look at him. "I'm going to visit my mom," she calmly answered.
The sad smile on her face broke his heart. He reached for her but she held up her hands.
"I'm not leaving you Sam," she quietly said looking away. "But watching you fight the feelings you have for Leah is hard." She slowly turned to look at him. The tears she fought hard to hold in began to slowing fall. "I now have some insight to what Leah's been going through." She shook her head when he took a step towards her. "The imprint ruined my relationship with Leah and demolished yours with her.' She wiped her tears away. "It was cruel and unfair for Leah to suffer."
"I love you Emily," he said as his body shook. The wolf was angry.
"I don't doubt your love for me," she whispered as more tears fell. "But you are the one who's conflicted. The imprint I accepted has kept you bound to me and at some point I thought it was meant to be but it's not fair to you." She sat on the bed.
"What are you saying?" he asked confused. He pushed himself against the wall to keep from getting to close to her. He lost his control once and he would die before he did it again.
"I'm saying," she cried. "I'm saying I reject the imprint." She wiped the tears away.
He slumped down the wall. "No Emily," he begged. "Please don't do this to us."
"If we are meant to be than it will lead you back to me," she stood up and closed the small suit case. She took a deep breath. "But if you're meant for Leah than I wish you both the best." She picked up her bag and walked towards the door. She leaned down and kissed the top of his head. "Bye." She grabbed the keys and ran out of the house before she changed her mind.
Sam curled up into a ball and cried as he heard the car start up. He couldn't move as he heard the car drive off. The only feeling he felt was his heart breaking. The pain felt worse than anything he'd ever felt before. He closed his eyes and prayed for it to go away.
