Chapter Twenty-one: The Family Finally Reunites
Debbie's POV:
"Carl where's Brian?" I asked and he looked at me.
"He's outside still. He won't come in for some reason." he said and I nodded and walked outside to try and find him. I found him a few minutes later standing in front of Justin's grave with his arms crossed in front of him.
"Justin would have your balls by now if he saw you moping like this." I told him but he still didn't look up. "Come on sweetie, let's go inside OK. It's getting late and you're in no condition to be outside at night." I said and he just lifted his head and stared straight ahead.
"Shouldn't Rick and the others been back by now? I wonder where they went." he said and I just gave him a look.
"Why don't we go inside and see if they're back or not." I said but he just turned and walked out a door and headed towards the woods. "Brian get back in here! It's not safe!" I yelled and he stopped and gave me a confused look.
"You mean you can't see him? He's right there." Brian said and pointed ahead of him. I looked and saw nothing and started to get really worried for Brian.
"Brian honey come back in here now. We'll get you some food and get you laid down OK." I said and his eyes became saddened and he turned and walked into the woods. "Brian!" I yelled and went to follow but walkers were heading for the door so I had to close it real quick. "Be safe." I begged though I knew he couldn't hear me.
Just then I heard cars coming and looked over and saw Carol opening the gates and letting them in before closing it and running behind the cars. I looked to where Brian just was then turned and ran back inside praying Rick and Daryl could go get him for us.
Rick's POV:
I stopped the car and looked behind me to see that both Justin and Daryl were sleeping. I smiled at the scene and saw T-dog smiling at them too from the corner of my eye. I leaned a little closer to placed a hand on Daryl's face to wake him up. "Come on Dar we're home. We need to get Glenn and Justin inside." I said and he slowly opened his eyes and nodded.
"Em's already got Glenn heading inside." T-dog said and I turned and saw Em carrying Glenn inside. I smiled when half followed Glenn and Em and the others came to our car. I got out and was tackled by Carl and I held him close.
"Didn't we tell you we'd be back?" I asked and he smiled at me. I stood up and hugged Carol then Micky, Ben and Hunter and finally Debbie who had come running to me.
"Glenn's already inside." she said and I nodded and walked to the back door.
"That's not all who's home safely now." I said and smiled at their confused looks and opened the door and leaned in to kiss Daryl real quick before gently lifting Justin's head so he could get out and say hi to everyone. While they all hugged him and gently lifted Justin into my arms, not liking how light he had gotten, and nodded to Michonne that she could get out and walked away from the car.
When the family saw who was in my arms they stopped and just stared at him. "There's no fucking way!" Micky breathed out and I smiled at him and looked back at Justin.
"We said the same thing. But he's real. He's alive." I said and Carl slowly walked forward and slowly reached up and grabbed Justin's hand. When he figured out it wouldn't disappear tears came to his eyes and he squeezed it tighter which made Justin wake up. He looked around and smiled at everyone and I sat him down slowly and he found himself with a Carl attached to him.
"You're alive!" Carl said and Justin smiled and held him as tightly as he could without hurting himself more.
"I'm alive." he said and hearing his voice the others ran to him and hugged him or just placed a hand on him. I smiled and broke up the reunion and let Justin lean on me and led him to the cell block. The rest of the family had the same reaction and Justin just took it all in. Clearly he missed us as much as we missed him. "Where's Brian?" he asked and everyone looked down at that.
"Where's Brian?" he asked again and fear was getting into his voice.
"Brian's... Not been himself since... That day." Daryl said and Justin turned to him.
"Where is he. I need to see him." he said and Debbie stepped up.
"That's actually what I needed to talk to you two about. Brian's gone crazy and left the prison and walked into the woods. I would've followed him but walkers were trying to get in." she said and Justin made to walk from us.
"I have to go get him." he said but nearly fell and everyone caught him.
"You lay in your cell and Carol will tend to you. Hershel's with Glenn right now. You lay down and Daryl and I will go get him OK. You're too weak Sunshine." I said and I had to smile at being able to call him sunshine again. Justin looked at me and sighed but nodded and let Carol lead him up to his cell and get laid down.
I turned to Daryl and smiled. "I think it's time to get those two back together." I said and he smiled and I wrapped an arm around him and we headed in the direction Deb pointed to.
Daryl's POV:
"Where the fuck could he have gone?" I asked and Rick shrugged and we looked around. We'd been out here for about ten minutes and we'd yet to find him.
Finally, after a long while of searching, we found him just sitting by a tree about a mile from the prison. "Bri?" I asked and he looked up at me and my eyes widened at what I saw. His eyes were dulled and pain was the only thing you could see in them. "Bri you need to get come back now. Rick and I brought you something." I said and smiled brightly. He just stared at me and I sighed and dragged him to his feet and Rick came over to help me get him to stand. Once he was I looked at him and glared.
"Walk. We're going back now." I said and he stared at me but began to move back to the prison. Rick smiled at me and I smiled back and took his hand and the two of us followed him back to the prison. As we walked though I couldn't help but feel worried about Brian. He was walking as if in a daze and he would look in one direction for a second before his eyes went even duller and he'd go back to walking.
I looked at Rick and saw he was getting worried too. 'I wonder what Brian would've done had we not found Justin when we did.' I thought and sighed in relief when the prison came into view. Just before we walked threw the gate though, Carl was waiting for us so we just went threw the front, Brian stopped and stared at the prison. "What's wrong Bri?" I asked and he didn't look at me.
"I hate this place." he said just above a whisper. I sighed and gently took his arm and pulled him up to stand between me and Rick and together we led him into the prison with Carl behind us.
When we got to our cell block we stopped Brian and made him look at us. "Now Bri you're about to see something that's very hard to believe, trust me, but I'm going to need you to not do anything crazy OK." Rick said and Brian nodded a little and we led him to is cell.
Brian literally had to grab the door frame and me to keep himself up. Brian was now looking at Justin who was currently being treated by Carol while he slept. Now that he was cleaned up a little his wounds didn't look that bad, besides his arm of course. Brian slowly walked away from us and to Justin and Carol looked up and smiled at him and moved back so he could get to him better. Brian looked at us with hope filling his eyes and I smiled and nodded at him.
Brian turned back to Justin and slowly touched his face, almost as if if he touched him Justin would disappear, and let out a joyful sob when he touched skin and not air. The sound made Justin wake up and he looked up at Brian and smiled a sunshine smile. The smile made Brian fall to the floor and took Justin's hand in his free one and gently stroked his face.
"You're real. You're real." Brian repeated and Justin just nodded and smiled at him.
"I'm real Brian." Justin said and Brian cried harder and lifted Justin's upper body to him tightly and Justin hugged right back. After awhile Brian let go and gently crawled over Justin and laid behind him pulling him as close as he could and just kept breathing in his scent. Justin smiled at him and looked back when Carol came back and finished up. Once she was done Justin turned in Brian's arms and buried his face in Brian's chest and Brian pulled him closer. Justin looked up and they both smiled and kissed each other deeply before laying back down and falling asleep instantly.
I turned to Rick and smiled when I saw tears in his eyes. He turned to me and I walked into his arms and we just held each other as we watched our friends get the sleep they both very much needed.
"Let's give them some privacy." Rick whispered and I nodded and we both left quietly.
As we walked away I couldn't help but notice this place had suddenly become brighter.
Brian's POV:
I woke up slowly and tensed when the memories of a few hours ago came back to me. 'Please don't let that have been a dream!' I begged and relaxed when I started to gain my senses and felt someone cuddled up to me. I opened my eyes and smiled when I saw Justin sleeping soundly while snuggled into my chest. 'I can't believe you're alive and here.' I thought and pulled him closer when he stirred slightly.
He opened his eyes and blinked a couple of times to get the sleep out of them and looked up at me and smiled. "I thought I was dreaming about being here." he said and I pulled him closer.
"Neither of us were dreaming. You're here, safe." I said and he sighed and tried to get even closer to me. We stayed like that for a good while enjoying being in each others arms before Justin sighed and looked at me.
"As much as I hate to get up, we have to and go help everyone out." he said and I sighed and nodded and slowly let him go and he got up slowly and that's when I was able to get a good look at his left arm. I reach for it and slowly lifted it to me and he turned and watched me look at it. "It's because of those damn walkers turning my arm into a chew toy you guys thought I died." he said and I pulled him into a hug.
"None of that matters now. You're here and we're together again and that's all that matters." I said and he hugged me tight before letting me go and we stood up together and took each others hand and walked out to meet the others.
"There's the two love birds! Almost thought you'd sleep the rest of the day." Daryl said smirking at us. I smirked back and pulled Justin to me.
"Next time we'll be sure to let you know we're awake." I said and Justin blushed deeply and everyone laughed.
"I must say it's great to see Brian Kinney being himself again. You had us worried there for the last couple of days." Daryl said and I smiled embarrassingly and Justin looked between us in confusion.
"Brian..." Justin said and I glared at Daryl who smirked and shrugged at me and looked at Justin.
"Brian's been walking around in a sort of daze. He didn't sleep or eat much and he was always outside just wondering." Daryl said and I glared harder at him and felt Justin's gaze on me.
I felt his arms go around my waist and I pulled him tighter to me. "I'm so sorry Bri." he whispered in my ear and I just pulled him even closer. He pulled back and smiled at me and turned back to the others. "How's Glenn?" he asked to no one in particular.
"He and Em are talking to Michonne and watching Merle over there." Rick said pointing in their direction and Justin nodded and started to walk that way but I stopped him.
"And just where do you think you're going?" I asked and he turned and smiled at me.
"Going to see Em and Glenn." was all he said and turned and started to walk again. I groaned and followed him as the others laughed.
Glenn's POV:
"Why am I locked in here? I helped you guys get out!" Merle yelled and I turned to glare at him.
"You tortured Justin for days then captured me and Em, beat me up and set a walker on us while you made Justin leave thinking he couldn't save us! We don't trust you and the only reason you're even here is because Daryl wanted you to stay here. Don't know why either. You're nothing but horrible to him." I said and Merle just smirked at me.
"Justin. That boy was fun. The way he screamed got me turned on in the weirdest way." he said and I saw red and made to after him but Em and Michonne held me back.
"Glenn that's enough." came a voice behind me and I turned and smiled brightly at seeing Brian AND Justin walking up to us. I pulled away from Michonne and Em and pulled Justin into a tight hug. Neither of us caring about our injuries.
"How sweet." Merle said and I growled and heard Brian growl too.
"Shut the fuck up Merle." Justin said calmly and slowly walked up to Merle's cell.
"Don't tell me what to do you brat!" he yelled and Justin just stared at him.
"You're the one in the cell now Merle. We're in control not you." he said and I smirked at Justin's back.
'Injured worse than me and still is able to be tough. You're one of a kind Sunshine that's for sure.' I thought and turned to Brian and saw him smiling proudly at Justin's back.
"So you're Michonne? I've heard some about you." Justin said turning to Michonne while ignoring Merle's glare.
"And you're Justin. Not heard much about you until last night. From what I can tell these people love you a lot." she said and nodded towards us.
"And I love them. Thank you for helping us out." he said and I smiled at him.
"You're not normal are you?" she asked and Justin cocked his head to the side.
"What do you mean?" he asked.
"Well, those are bite marks on your arm. A lot of them too. From how they look I'd say they're a few days old. A normal person would already be eating someone by now if they were bitten. Yet here you stand." Michonne said nodding towards his arm. Justin sighed and nodded and lifted his shirt up to reveal the mark and the scar just above it from when he was first bitten.
"You're right I'm not normal. When all the shit started some guys knocked me out shortly after I got separated from my family and I woke up with this mark on me. Few months later at the CDC I found out that a group that calls themselves the PeaceGivers placed the only cure to this virus in me. I'm not only immune to the bite and scratch, but I can also cure those that just got bitten or scratched and I can since when the virus is close to me. The colder I feel the more are coming." Justin said and Michonne just stared at the mark.
"That would explain all that talk I used to over hear about some weapon they finally had in their hands." she said and Justin nodded.
"James and the Governor will get you back. James wants his weapon and he won't stop until he has you." Merle said and we all turned and glared at him.
"I'm no weapon! I'm a human being that James decided to turn into a lab rat." Justin snarled and Merle smirked at him.
"No weapon huh? That's not how it seemed down in that cell of yours." Merle said smirking and Justin tensed up. I looked between Em, Michonne and Brian and saw that they were all as confused as we were.
"None of that matters now. I'm back with my family safe and you're the one behind bars. I already vowed not to let what happen get to me and make me weak." Justin said and Merle just smirked at him.
"You and I both know that won't ever be possible kid." Merle said and Justin just stood there.
"Shut the fuck up you bastard!" Brian yelled and pulled Justin to him. The second Justin was in his arms he seemed to completely relax and wrapped his arms tightly around Brian.
"Whatever man." Merle said smirking and holding his hands up. Brian glared at him and looked back at the rest of us.
"Come on guys. Let's get away from this bastard." he said and we all nodded and walked back to the others. As we walked I turned and looked at Justin and saw that he had a far away look on his face.
'Something happened to you Sunshine. Something you're not letting us see. What could've happened to freak you out this much by just mentioning it?' I asked myself and turned back when we reached the others.
