"Bruce, let me explain." Tony said as he followed Bruce, who had just ran out the room in rage.
"No Tony. You're a liar!" Bruce shouted as he got in the elevator.
"Bruce I couldn't tell you, it was a secret." Tony explained as he put his hand in front of the elevator to stop the door from closing.
Bruce pushed Tony's hand away from the door. "I thought best friends were supposed to share secrets." The boy sobbed before the elevator closed.
Bruce laid his head back on his pillow and stared up at the ceiling, wishing to forget the news he had heard 5 hours prior. "Why me?" he murmured to himself.
A knock came from the door. "I told you Tony I'm not coming out, no matter how much you bribe me." Bruce shouted.
"It's not Tony." Steve's voice could be heard on the other side of the door.
"I know Tony is there." Bruce said.
"He's not, he doesn't know I'm here." Steve said with tiredness in his voice.
"Why not?"
"He said we shouldn't bother you, in case we upset you."
"Bother me? He's annoyed me enough the last 3 hours." Bruce rolled his eyes.
"Bruce, can you let me in before I get caught." Steve asked.
Bruce sighed before getting off his bed and removing the chair that prevented the door from opening, which kept the concerned Tony Stark out of his room. The boy opened the door to find a tired Steve. "Why do you look like you exhausted?"
"Tony stopped the elevator, so I had to use the stairs." Steve wiped the sweat of his forehead.
"You disobeyed Tony?" Bruce gave a silent laugh.
"What's funny?"
"You're a soldier and aren't soldiers supposed to follow orders?" Bruce smiled.
"I'm not one yet." Steve smiled. "Can I come in?" Bruce nodded and Steve entered Bruce's room and sat on the bed. Bruce shut the door behind him and returned the chair back against the door.
"Wait a minute; didn't you say you knew about us?" Bruce's tone of voice changed to anger. "Why didn't you tell us Steve? You're just a liar like the rest of them." Bruce took the chair away from the door and opened the door. "I need you to leave."
"Bruce, close the door." Steve said in seriousness. Bruce closed the door and moved around the room. "Thank you." Steve sighed before continuing to speak. "Look Bruce all I knew was that I was Captain America, Tony was Iron Man and we all in the Avengers."
"You still should have told us."
"But you would still go through all of this." Steve sighed. "I only knew you were in the Avengers I didn't know you were…"
"A monster?" Bruce interrupted.
"You're not a monster Bruce" Steve sighed again.
"You all think I am" Steve went to object but Bruce just pointed his finger at him. "Don't say you all don't" Steve frowned. "You know when the Hulk first appeared on that screen, I saw Clint and Natasha jump in fright." Bruce said in a quieter tone.
"Probably because they were shocked." Steve defended.
"Or maybe they were scared of me." Bruce said getting louder again. He looked at Steve who looked at him in concern. He took a deep breath and sat on the bed next to Steve. "I don't want to be a monster Steve" Bruce sniffed.
"You're not." Steve said putting his hand on his shoulder.
"Did you see all the destruction I did with my ugly green fists?" Bruce sniffed again as a tear rolled down his cheek. "What if I hurt someone?"
"Bruce, do you think if everyone thought you were a monster or dangerous, they would let you protect them? You may have destroyed things but that was probably to save people's lives. You're not a monster; you're a hero." Steve reassured Bruce.
"You think?" Bruce wiped away his tear.
"Yes. Do you really think I would be able to lie?" Steve smiled.
"Thanks Steve." Steve smiled and nodded. "Why did you come to talk to me? No offense but me and you haven't talked to each other enough for you risk getting in trouble to see if I was okay."
"Well I consider you guys as family." Steve admitted.
"You look out for the people you care about; maybe that's why you are the leader of the Avengers." The two boys exchanged smiles.
"Well co- leader." Tony's voice could be heard on the other side of the door. Bruce walked over to the door and opened it. Tony gave a sigh of relief before apologizing, "I'm sorry."
"It's okay, I understand why." Tony smiled. "How long were you standing there?"
"For a few minutes. I was looking for a kid who doesn't listen to the rules." He looked at Steve and raised his eyebrow.
"Sorry about that." Steve apologized.
"It's okay just keep to the rules next time, something could happen to you." Steve nodded. "Anyway I happy your okay Bruce." He smiled at the boy once more before turning to Steve. "And sorry for nagging Steve, I'm not normally the one who nags about rules and orders."
"Who normally does the nagging?" Steve asked.
"You."
