Chapter 21: Castelia Gym! VS Casey the Fabulous Artist

Narration: After the exciting adventures on the three islands, Golen and his friends have finally made it to Castelia City.

"Oh come on guys, I didn't mean to forget about you." Golen stated as his companions shunned him while they walked in the crowded streets of Castelia City. "Come on, I said I'm sorry." Golen stated.

"So what, I know we left you for five hours but you left us for almost an entire day!" Carly replied. "Indeed, to have left us behind while you went off on a glorious adventure, unforgivable." Tom stated. "Yeah and he didn't even tell us how his battle turned out." Vlad added along. "Aw come on, I know what you guys need." Golen stated with a smile. "Oh yeah? What is it?" Carly asked. "You guys just need to see me breeze through the Castelia City Gym. Seeing me succeed will inspire you guys." Golen answered back with a confident smile. "Seriously?!" Vlad said, excited as Carly held him down. "I mean, so?" Vlad stated while trying to feign indifference.

"Let's get out of here." Carly stated. "Indeed." Tom added along as he and Carly went to the Pokémon Center. "By the way I'm really not that mad at you Mr. Golen, I just don't want to feel left out." Vlad whispered to his companion. "VLAD!" Carly shouted. "C…Coming!" Vlad shouted as he ran after his companions.

"Jeez those guys really are something. When they do it to me by accident it's no problem but when I do it by accident it's suddenly a big deal." Golen muttered to himself as he noticed a familiar face in the crowd of people.

"Uh….hey! Aren't you Casey from that time at Bond Island!?" Golen asked the young man. "Yeah, I remember you." Casey said in response.

"Oh yeah, I didn't get to introduce myself. I'm Golen." Golen greeted the blonde man. "Nice to meet you, so what brings you to Castelia City?" Casey asked Golen. "Oh well I'm here to challenge the Castelia City Gym." Golen replied to Casey's surprise. "Do you know where it is?" Golen asked. "Yeah I do happen to know where the Gym is located." Casey replied. "Alright, so can you help guide me there? I'm not really used to being in cities like this so it's a real bother to move around when I don't know where I'm going." Golen stated in response.

"I'd be happy to help you, though I need to make a quick stop before I do so. You don't mind do you?" Casey asked.

"Not at all, I'm already motivated from all the training I did beforehand and I know that I can beat Burgh." Golen declared. "Uh…..Burgh?" Casey asked, confused. "Yeah, isn't he the Gym Leader?" Golen asked in confusion. "Uh, yeah haha." Casey nervously chuckled. "Alright well let's go!" Golen exclaimed. "Hold on I'm supposed to be guiding you!" Casey shouted as he went after the black-haired lad.

"Carly remind me again what point was there in acting incensed towards Golen?" Tom asked his companion as the trio sat in the Pokémon Center. "I dunno, I just love messing with him." Carly giggled. "You don't think he'll go to the Gym alone, do you?" Vlad asked his companions. "No way, his sense of direction is terrible." Carly replied. "Though it is possible that one of the kind civilians in this city could easily assist him." Tom stated. "We should probably head to the Gym just in case." Vlad stated. "Yeah let's go." Carly said as the trio departed from the Pokémon Center.

"Wow Castelia Cones!" Golen shouted in joy. "You can go get one while I visit the Studio Castelia." Casey told the trainer. "Nah, I can't really tolerate eating ice cream." Golen stated as the duo walked into the Studio.

"What is this place?" Golen asked as he looked around to see various portraits and pictures. "This is Studio Castelia, a small art gallery that displays the paintings of artists who live in Castelia City." Casey replied. "Though over the last two years Studio Castelia has become a place where artists from all over the Unova region gather to display their art and spread out their ideas to inspire the youth of this generation." Casey added along. "Wow, that sounds amazing." Golen stated as Casey was welcomed by various artists in the studio. "He really is popular around here." Golen muttered to himself.

"Hey did you guys here the story of the Zorua who used to pose as a boy over at the Freak Games headquarters twenty-three years ago?" Vlad asked his companions as they walked through the crowds of people. "I have but it is quite an underwhelming tale." Tom replied. "Yeah, especially in comparison to the guy that we have to deal with." Carly added along. "Heh yeah good point." Vlad chuckled. "By the way, where are we going?" Vlad asked his companions. "Weren't we going to the Gym?" Carly asked. "Indeed we were. But before that I must go to the Café Sonata." Tom answered.

"But Professor why are we going there?" Vlad asked his companion.

"Well it is quite simple. You see I had once heard a tale about a man who used his wisdom to teach a legendary Pokémon a technique using nothing but the beauty of music." Tom stated. "Amazing." Vlad said in awe. "Um Tom, that was over twenty years ago. I doubt the guy is still even there nowadays." Carly told her companion. "Oh…well let us depart for the Gym." Tom declared. "Good idea, Master." Vlad stated.

"Wasn't that what we were doing before?" Carly muttered as the trio walked on to go find the Gym.

"Sorry for the wait." Casey said as he approached a bored Golen. "Huh? Oh it was nothing." Golen stated. "My apologies I just get so caught up here." Casey chuckled, embarrassed.

"Are you an artist too?" Golen asked the man. "Yeah, though my interests are in more than just art itself." Casey answered to the lad. "Uh….what?" Golen asked, confused. "Golen, what is art to you?" Casey asked the young trainer. "Err…uh…pretty pictures?" Golen answered in bewilderment. "You could say that's what it is. But to me art is the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination. It may be typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpturing but I believe that the true meanings of art transcend not only physical matter but even through time, space and existence itself." Casey stated as he broke into a speech. "Yeah I couldn't have said it any better myself." Golen stated. "Even though I have no idea what he's saying." Golen thought to himself.

"How foolish of me, I forgot that I had to guide you to the Gym." Casey embarrassingly stated. "It's no problem, I'm sure Burgh doesn't mind waiting for challengers." Golen replied.

"Yeah, so let's go on to the Gym shall we?" Casey asked. "Yeah, let's go." Golen enthusiastically stated as the duo departed from the small art gallery. "So Golen how many badges do you have at the moment?" Casey asked the trainer as they walked through the crowded streets. "I've got two." Golen happily declared as he pulled out his Badge Case and revealed to Casey his Basic and Toxic Badges. "Impressive, the Gym Leaders from those gyms are pretty strong. Though I can tell you that the Gym Leader of the Castelia Gym isn't someone to take lightly either." Casey told the lad. "Heh I already now, Gym Leaders are powerful opponents that I can't afford to take lightly. I lost to the last Gym Leader I faced on my first try but I promise that I'll never lose to a Gym Leader ever again." Golen replied as Casey smiled at him.

"I like your passion." Casey told the lad. "Have we reached the Gym yet?" Golen asked. "Yeah, this is Gym Street." Casey answered as the duo walked through the noticeably less crowded street.

"Well Golen, this is the Castelia Gym!" Casey declared as the two stopped in front of a building. They stood in front of a large building that had various different colored lights and along with that it had a giant Pokéball symbol above of the entrance with two Pokéball shaped statues. "Finally, we're here." Golen stated, determined. "Here I come Burgh!" Golen declared as he entered the building.

"What took you so long?" Carly asked in annoyance as she, Tom and Vlad sat in the hallway having awaited his arrival. "How did you guys get here so fast?" Golen asked confused. "Well we just looked up the directions." Vlad answered. "I should have thought of that." Golen muttered to himself. "Huh? Mr. Casey what are you doing here?" Vlad asked as the young man entered the building. "I was just guiding Golen to the gym." He replied. "How considerate." Tom stated. "Wait. What's up with all of these pictures in the hall? I mean isn't this the Castelia Gym." Golen asked as he looked at all of the diverse portraits.

"It is both a Gym and a gallery for my art." Casey answered. "That's weird. Why does he have a gallery in Burgh's Gym?" Golen thought to himself.

"I don't mean to brag but this is my life. The art in this Gym are masterpieces that radiate within the souls of many." Casey stated, being very into talking about his art. "This artwork is truly astounding. You must tell me what inspire…" "Oh no you don't! If you guys start talking about this art than we'll be stuck here all day!" Golen stated as he interrupted Tom. "But I must know." Tom stated. "Not until after I win my 3rd badge." Golen replied. "Do you think Mr. Golen is being a bit impatient?" Vlad asked Carly. "Believe me, he's doing us all a favor." Carly muttered in response. "So how long is Burgh going to keep us waiting?" Golen asked Casey.

"If you really want to begin your Gym Battle then follow me." Casey stated as he walked into another room. "Wait up!" Golen stated as he followed the young man into the next room.

"What is this?" Golen asked in shock as he walked into a large room. The room was made up of multiple levels of silk and had various silk cocoons on every level. "Don't tell me that Golen has to go through all of that to be able to get his Gym Battle." Carly said in disbelief. "Awesome, if he can't do that then we should." Vlad suggested. "Indeed, a test of mental acumen and physical ability. This would be quite the challenge for our righteous trio." Tom added along. "Just stop." Carly muttered in response to the overly enthusiastic duo.

"Don't worry, no one has to go through this maze." Casey replied. "Why not?" Golen asked. "Well while it is a Gym Leader's duty to test the strength of a challenger through making them overcome various obstacles it is just as interesting and effective to battle a challenger at their full strength through a traditional battle without any special requirements." Casey replied. "So is this white stuff just for show?" Golen asked.

"No, this is the course for any trainers hoping to have a rematch against a Gym Leader." Casey replied. "Rematch course?" Carly muttered. "It is a rigorous trial where trainers who had previously fallen in battle against a Gym Leader must overcome the specific challenges set up by that Gym Leader in order to have their rematch." Tom answered. "Is it the same in your Gym, Professor?" Vlad asked his companion.

"Not completely, for the Aspertia Gym the rematch course for challengers is usually an educational exam." Tom replied. "Good thing Golen beat you on his first try, huh? Cause no way would he have passed the rematch course." Carly laughed to Golen's annoyance. "So where do challengers go for a Gym Battle?" Golen asked. "Here." Casey declared as he pressed a button on the wall.

From the center of the room appeared a silk gateway to another room. In the next room was a colorful room that was decorated with Bug-Pokémon portraits and had a battlefield in the center of it.

"Awesome, so where's the Gym Leader?" Golen asked exited to have his Gym Battle. "I'm right here." Casey declared as he stood at the opposite side of the battlefield.

"Mr. Casey is the Gym Leader!?" Vlad shouted in shock. "It was obvious." Carly casually replied. "I was aware of his status since the moment I had encountered him at Resort Island." Tom nonchalantly stated. "Oh yeah, his name was on the cover of the Gym statues." Vlad stated. "NO WAY!" Golen shouted in dismay. "Calm down it's not a big deal." Carly replied.

"Damn it and here I was expecting Burgh, I was wrong again." Golen stated as he sat down. "What are you talking about?" Vlad asked.

"I was expecting Burgh this time. In my first Gym challenge I expected Cheren while in the last gym I expected Roxie and while I was wrong I was sure that the 3rd time would be the charm. I mean it even shows the Gym Leader order in my Guide Book." Golen said as he showed off his Guidebook to his companions. "Um Mr. Golen, this Guide Book is from twenty years ago…" Vlad told his companion. "No way, damn that Amy giving me expired guidebooks." Golen thought to himself, annoyed.

"I'm sorry if I'm not who you expected to battle." Casey told the young trainer. "Oh no, it's no big deal. I was just caught off guard." Golen replied.

"I see, well Burgh is the man who taught me everything I know so I promise to give you an exciting battle." Casey declared. "Alright, though I guarantee you that I won't lose this battle." Golen replied to Casey's amusement. "Alright, this will be a 3-on-3 battle between the Castelia City Gym Leader, Casey and Golen Ken, from Aspertia City. The first side to take out the other side's Pokémon will be the winner. Let the battle begin!" a referee declared. "Timburr, let's go!" "Come out, Larvesta!" the two trainers declared as they called out their respective Pokémon. "Larvesta." Golen muttered as Carly pulled out her Pokédex.

Larvesta, the Torch Pokémon. Said to have been born from the sun, it spews fire from its horns and encases itself in a cocoon of fire when it evolves.

"A Bug and Fire-type." Carly muttered. "How will a Fighting type like Timburr fight against that combination?" Vlad asked as he and the others watched on in the sidelines. "Golen, the first move is yours." Casey shouted. "Thanks, Timburr use Rock Slide!" Golen commanded as the Muscular Pokémon stomped its block into the ground. Multiple white rings appeared in the sky and from the rings appeared multiple boulders which came crashing down on Larvesta.

"Larvesta, Zen Headbutt!" Casey commanded as the Torch Pokémon avoided the boulders while the top part of its head glowed blue and its head became surrounded by a see-through reflective shield.

It then shot at Timburr like a missile and slammed its head into it. "Timburr!" Timburr wailed as it was sent flying. "Timburr!" Golen shouted. "To think it can use Zen Headbutt." Vlad muttered. "Timburr use Strength!" Golen commanded as the Muscular Pokémon rose to its feet and was encased in a red aura as it charged at Larvesta. "Flamethrower!" Casey commanded in response as Larvesta avoided Timburr's attack and hit it with a stream of red-orange flames.

"Don't lose your ground, Mach Punch!" Golen commanded as one of Timburr's fists glowed blue as it quickly punched Larvesta in the face. "Awesome." Vlad happily stated.

"Now use Rock Slide again!" Golen commanded as Timburr once again attacked Larvesta with Rock Slide. "We won't fall for that, dodge and use Sunny Day!" Casey commanded as its horns began to shine as it shot out a golden orb into the sky which resulted in the room being encased in a bright sunlight. "With this move utilized by Larvesta of the Fire typing will be even stronger than before." Tom stated. "Now use Flamethrower once more!" Casey commanded as Larvesta released an even stronger stream of red-orange flames at Timburr.

"T…Timburr dodge it!" Golen commanded as the Muscular Pokémon narrowly dodged the enhanced Fire attack. "Now use Zen Headbutt." Casey once again commanded as Larvesta once again rushed at Timburr.

"Timburr, toss your block with Strength!" Golen commanded to everyone's shock. "Timburr!" Timburr commanded as it through its log at an incoming Larvesta. "Lar." Larvesta stated as it backed up and avoided the log which was firmly planted into the ground. "Golen if this is all there is to your battling then this will be a very bitter experience for you." Casey told the young trainer as Timburr fell to its knees. "Timburr!" Golen shouted as Timburr was revealed to have been burned from one of Larvesta's previous attacks. "With that burn Timburr's attack strength will be halved." Vlad stated, worried. "I would not be so sure about that." Tom replied with a smile as Timburr let out a smirk to Casey's surprise.

"Timburr." Timburr stated as it rose to its feet with its body becoming surrounded in a crimson aura. "How unfortunate for us, to think that Timburr had Guts." Casey stated. "Amazing!" Vlad exclaimed in awe.

"What's Guts?" Carly asked. "It is an Ability that raises the Attack of any Pokémon which is affected by a status ailment." Tom answered. "So does that mean that the lowering of Timburr's Attack from the burn was cancelled out by the Attack boost from Guts?" Carly asked. "With Guts the Attack drop from the burn doesn't occur." Vlad answered. "So that means Golen has the edge." Carly happily exclaimed. "Alright, with this we'll win." Golen confidently declared. "It isn't as simple as you think. While Guts rose the attack of your Timburr, Sunny Day rose the strength of Larvesta's Fire moves and along with that your Timburr will still lose strength from the effects of the burn." Casey told the trainer.

"Basically whoever lands the next strike wins the battle, right?" Golen asked. "Yeah." Casey answered as both trainers became determined to gain the edge. "Timburr use Mach Punch!" Golen commanded.

"Larvesta, settle this with Zen Headbutt!" Casey commanded as the two Pokémon began to rush at each other. "Wait, why would he use Zen Headbutt over a Fire move?" Carly asked. "He possibly believes that using a super effective move like Zen Headbutt will benefit him more than using a Fire attack." Tom answered as the two Pokémon rushed at each other to the center of the battlefield where Timburr's log was stuck. "Just a little more." Golen muttered. "I win." Casey confidently declared as Golen let out a smile. "Jump!" Golen commanded as Timburr narrowly avoided the Zen Headbutt and jumped onto the top of the log much to Casey's shock. "Now settle this, DynamicPunch!" Golen commanded as Timburr jumped down at Larvesta and pulled one of its fists back. The fist then started to glow red as Timburr smashed Larvesta into the ground with the powerful Fighting attack.

"Impossible!" Casey exclaimed as an unconscious Larvesta lied in the ground . "Larvesta is unable to battle, Timburr is the winner!" the referee declared. "Alright!" Carly exclaimed as she and the others happily looked on.

"Thank you for your hard work, your pure heart shined even in defeat." Casey told his fallen Pokémon as he recalled it. "Golen, your strength surpassed my expectations." Casey admitted to the trainer.

"Thanks a lot, Casey." Golen said as he thanked the Gym Leader while his Timburr removed its block from the center of the battlefield. "I may have lost this first battle but my pure hearted passion is burning brighter than ever. Come on out, Skorupi!" Casey declared as he called out a red and aqua green colored Skorupi. "That Skorupi's a different color than Golen's Skorupi." Carly stated. "A Shiny Skorupi?" Vlad muttered. "It is a rarity to be able to see an alternately colored Pokémon." Tom added along.

"Wait, don't we see Golen's Emolga like every day?" Carly asked. "Carly please, we are trying to watch the battle." Tom told his companion much to her annoyance.

"Skorupi, huh? Timburr already has experience fighting against my Skorupi and the fact that I'm aware of how Skorupi battles should give me the advantage. Alright, Rock Slide!" Golen commanded as Timburr attacked the alternately colored Scorpion Pokémon. "Skorupi use Pin Missile!" Casey commanded as Skorupi's claws glowed white and it fired white, arrow-shaped streams of pins at Timburr. "Timburr!" Timburr shouted as it was hit by the Pin Missile before it was able to continue with the Rock Slide.

As the smoke cleared Golen and Timburr were shocked to see what seemed to be an army of Skorupi. "W…what's going on?" Golen asked confused. "Mr. Golen it's just Double Team!" Vlad shouted.

"Swords Dance!" Casey commanded as several blue glowing swords circled the Skorupi and crossed together. The Skorupi then glowed red, raising their Attack.

"I'll take them all out at once, Rock Slide!" Golen commanded as Timburr successfully carried out its attack as the boulders came crashing down on the Skorupis. "Settle this with Cross Poison!" Casey commanded as from the smoke appeared the real Skorupi. Skorupi then rushed at Timburr as it formed a purple X in front of its arms. "Timburr won't last much longer, so I have to settle this in one hit. Timburr, DynamicPunch!" Golen commanded as Timburr rushed at Skorupi. The two Pokémon closed in on each other as Skorupi avoided Timburr's DynamicPunch and struck it with a power Cross Poison.

"Timburr!" Timburr wailed as it was sent flying into a wall. "Timburr is unable to battle, Skorupi is the winner!" the referee declared. "That Skorupi is powerful." Carly muttered impressed.

"It has a much more strategic approach to battling in comparison to the Skorupi that Golen possesses." Tom stated. "With Swords Dance and Double Team it'll be a tough battle especially if Mr. Golen doesn't finish it as soon as possible." said a slightly worried Vlad. "Thanks for your hard work Skorupi." Golen stated as he recalled the Muscular Pokémon. "How will you be able to handle my Skorupi's pure hearted battling?" Casey asked the black-haired trainer. "That Skorupi may be strong but I've got a trump card." Golen smirked as he threw out a Pokéball. "Cynda!" Cyndaquil shouted as it emerged from its Pokéball. "Cyndaquil?" Casey muttered, surprise.

"Of course, with Cyndaquil winning this will be easy." Carly happily stated. "Though that will only be the case if he can take out Skorupi before it raises its Attack any further." Tom told his companion.

"Cyndaquil use Flamethrower!" Golen commanded as the Fire Mouse Pokémon released a stream of red-orange flames which was enhanced by the Sunny Day. "Dodge it with Double Team!" Casey urgently commanded as Skorupi's body glowed white and it created multiple copies of itself, one of which ended up being struck by the Flamethrower. "Now Swords Dance!" Casey commanded as Skorupi once again rose its Attack. "Pin Missile!" Casey commanded as Skorupi attacked the Fire Mouse Pokémon. "Dodge it with Quick Attack!" Golen commanded as the Fire Mouse Pokémon was encased in a white light as it avoided the Pin Missile.

"Cross Poison!" Casey commanded as all the Skorupi began to rush at Cyndaquil.

"Cyndaquil keep using Quick Attack to avoid them and use Flamethrower!" Golen commanded as the Fire Mouse Pokémon avoided the attacks of each and every Skorupi as it wildly shot Flamethrowers all over the arena. "What is he up to?" Casey asked before noticing that Cyndaquil had surrounded itself and Skorupi in a ring of flames. "Amazing!" Vlad shouted. "Now Skorupi can't escape." Carly happily added along. "Even though we can't escape you don't have a chance in defeating Skorupi in a physical fight." Casey told the young trainer. "We'll see about that, Cyndaquil use Quick attack and run into the flames!" Golen exclaimed to everyone's surprise.

"Cynda!" Cyndaquil shouted as it began to run in the circle of flames. "I understand, the ring of flames were not to prevent Skorupi from escaping but rather it was to use as a diversion to avoid a physical confrontation." Tom stated, impressed.

"Who would've thought that he's become so advanced." Carly added along. "As expected of Mr. Golen." Vlad stated as the trio looked on.

"I won't lose this, Skorupi prepare a Cross Poison!" Casey commanded as Skorupi stood in place preparing to intercept Cyndaquil.

"I don't think so, Cyndaquil use Flame Wheel!" Golen commanded as Cyndaquil used the momentum it had built from running in the flames at such an accelerated pace to somersault into the air as it was encased in a large flame cloak and came crashing down on Skorupi. "Skorupi, quickly dodge the attack!" Casey urgently shouted as Cyndaquil smashed right into Skorupi. As the dust cleared a knocked out Skorupi lied in a small crater.

"Skorupi is unable to battle, Cyndaquil is the winner!" the referee declared. "Alright!" Carly happily exclaimed.

"Now with this all Mr. Golen needs to do to win his 3rd Badge is take out Mr. Casey's last Pokémon." Vlad stated. "Though it will not be an easy task." Tom replied as he looked on, worried about what Casey's final Pokémon could be. "Impressive, you took advantage of the effects of Sunny Day along with using that flame ring as a distraction so you could catch me off guard." Casey stated, impressed as the effects of Sunny Day had finally wore off. "Actually I was just wanted Flame Wheel to look good….err I mean yeah that was my strategy." Golen stated while trying to persuade the others into believing he knew what he was doing to no avail. "Of course, it was just a coincidence that he did that he did." Carly stated as she facepalmed.

"I must have overestimated his strategic prowess." Tom muttered in embarrassment. "Uh…go get him Mr. Golen!" Vlad shouted, not knowing what else to say.

"Well regardless of that you still are a skilled trainer. But you will fall in the face of my true ace." Casey declared. "Bring it on." Golen muttered.

"Come forth, Castelia Gym's Guardian! Pinsir!" Casey declared as he called out a bipedal Pokémon with a wide, dull brown body and a large pair of grey, spiky pincers on top of its head. In its mouth were many long, flat teeth arranged horizontally. Its legs were short and thick while its arms were long and thin, and each limb ended with three grey claws. Its limbs and abdomen were divided into segments. Its eyes were simple, but usually appeared angry. "Pinsir?" Golen muttered as Carly pulled out her Pokédex.

Pinsir, the Stag Beetle Pokémon. It grips prey with its powerful pincers and will not let go until the prey is torn in half.

"That Pinsir really looks strong." Vlad stated with a worried tone. "Golen must be cautious, that Pinsir is definitely a formidable opponent." Tom stated as the trio looked on. "I'll win, not only did we win the last battle without getting hit once but we also have the type advantage and momentum from our win at the Virbank Gym." Golen thought to himself as Casey confidently looked at him. "We're waiting for you to attack." Casey stated. "We'll end this in one hit. Cyndaquil use Flame Wheel!" Golen commanded as the Fire Mouse Pokémon somersaulted into the sky and was encased in a flame cloak as it began to roll towards Pinsir.

"Now it's time for a combination attack, Flamethrower!" Golen commanded as Cyndaquil used Flamethrower to enhance the rolling speed of the Flame Wheel.

"Stay in place." Casey told his Pinsir who continued to stand in the same position. "Do it!" Golen commanded as Cyndaquil suddenly spiraled out of control as the flame cloak dispersed and Cyndaquil fell onto the floor. "Cyndaquil!" Golen shouted. "This ends here, Guillotine!" Casey commanded as Pinsir's horns glowed white and it grabbed Cyndaquil with them and rammed it straight into the ground. "Cyndaquil!" Golen shouted as the smoke cleared Cyndaquil was completely knocked out. "No way." Golen muttered in disbelief.

"Cyndaquil is unable to battle, Pinsir is the winner!" the referee declared as both trainers were now down to their last Pokémon. "He ended it in one hit." Carly said in disbelief.

"Guillotine is a move that instantly knocks out whichever opponent so long as the Pokémon is able to make contact with it." Tom told his companion. "But how did Mr. Golen's combination fail?" Vlad asked, confused. "Cyndaquil must have not been able to properly control the combination of the two moves." Tom answered. "But how? I mean Mr. Golen has pulled off combination moves before right?" Vlad asked, still not understanding.

"That is true but in every previous occasion where Golen used a combination he used the moves he attempted to combine at once rather than using one attack and then following it with the second one to boost its strength." Tom answered. "So Casey already realized that Golen's combination would fail?" Carly asked. "Yeah and he used that confidence to take advantage of that miscalculation Golen made so he could settle the battle in one attack." Tom answered as the trio looked on worried.

"Thanks for your hard work." Golen muttered as he recalled Cyndaquil. "Now Golen, reveal your third Pokémon to me." Casey told the young trainer.

"This is my final one, Mudkip let's GO!" Golen declared as he called out the Mud Fish Pokémon. "Mudkip?" Mudkip muttered, confused.

"Mudkip this'll be your Gym debut so let's do our best." Golen told his Pokémon who was slightly nervous. "Don't worry, I called you out because I believe in you." Golen assured the Mud Fish Pokémon. "Mudkip." Mudkip stated, determined to battle.

"Alright, Mudkip use Tackle!" Golen commanded as Mudkip charged at the Stag Beetle Pokémon. "Dodge it!" Casey commanded as he sidestepped Mudkip's attack.

"Now use Bulk Up!" Casey commanded as Pinsir flexed while it was encased in a crimson aura. "Now it's Attack is higher than before." Golen muttered. "Not only its attack but its Defense as well, now use Superpower!" Casey commanded as Pinsir was surrounded in a light blue aura as it went to attack Mudkip. "Mudkip dodge it and use Ice Beam!" Golen commanded as Mudkip avoided Pinsir's grip and pelted it in the face a powerful Ice Beam. "Alright!" Golen happily exclaimed. "We're not done yet." Casey declared to Golen's shock as Pinsir grabbed Mudkip and tossed it into the ground.

"Mudkip!" Mudkip wailed as it fell to the ground. "Mudkip!" Golen shouted. "With Bulk Up Pinsir's strength is incredible." Vlad muttered. "Mudkip!" Mudkip fiercely shouted as it rose to its feet.

"That Mudkip has a lot of passion." Casey stated, impressed. "Yeah and we'll use that passion to win this battle, Whirlpool!" Golen commanded as Mudkip glowed a bluish-white color and it stood on its hind legs as it pointed its head and front legs to the air. It then opened its mouth and a huge whirlpool came out of it and formed above of Mudkip. Mudkip then threw the whirlpool at Pinsir. "Impressive." Casey muttered as Pinsir was hit by the Whirlpool. "Alright!" Vlad shouted in joy. "With Whirlpool Golen will be able to chip away at Pinsir's strength." Tom happily stated. "Win this, Golen!" Carly shouted.

"Pinsir use X-Scissor!" Casey commanded as Pinsir's claws glowed light blue, and it swiped them in an 'X' formation, creating a light blue 'X' in front of it as it cut out of the Whirlpool.

"Amazing." Golen muttered with a worried expression. "Now use Bulk Up!" Casey commanded as Pinsir once again rose its Attack and Defense. "Now use Superpower!" Casey commanded as Pinsir charged towards Mudkip. "Mudkip use Ice Beam to create a shield of ice!" Golen commanded as Mudkip opened its mouth and formed a light blue ball inside it. It then fired multiple light blue beams from the ball at the ground, forming a shield of ice. Pinsir then smacked the shield of ice as the impact of Pinsir's attack sent Mudkip flying again. "Mudkip regain your balance and use Whirlpool again!" Golen commanded as Mudkip once again attacked Pinsir.

"Stop it with X-Scissor!" Casey commanded as Pinsir quickly destroyed the Whirlpool causing the water from the attack to spread throughout the entire arena.

"Perfect, use Ice Beam!" Golen commanded as Mudkip continued to attack Pinsir. "Pinsir dodge it!" Casey commanded as Pinsir dodged the attack. "Now use Ice Beam on the arena!" Golen commanded as Mudkip used Ice Beam on the field and caused the ground to be encased in ice. "Now Ice Beam one more time!" Golen commanded as Mudkip released an Ice Beam at Pinsir. "Dodge it!" Casey commanded as he noticed that one of Pinsir's feet were stuck in the ice. "Use Superpower!" Casey commanded as it smashed the Ice Beam and the ice under it.

"Golen, I know what you're doing and it won't work." Casey told the trainer. "We'll see about that, Whirlpool!" Golen commanded as Mudkip attacked Pinsir again.

"Pinsir knock back the Whirlpool with Superpower!" Casey commanded as Pinsir punched the Whirlpool back at Mudkip. "Dodge it!" Golen commanded to no avail as Mudkip was trapped in the Whirlpool. "Mudkip, no!" Golen shouted. "Mr. Golen!" Vlad shouted. "Get out of it!" Carly added along. "Overcome this trial, we all believe in you!" Tom exclaimed. "Mudkip, Mudkip you can do this!" Golen shouted as Mudkip seemed to be losing consciousness. "It appears that I have won our pure hearted battle." Casey stated. "Mudkip!" Golen shouted as Mudkip regained its consciousness.

"MUD-KIP!" Mudkip shouted to everyone's joy. "Alright, we'll win this." Golen confidently declared. "Pinsir settle this with Guillotine!" Casey commanded as Pinsir charged at Mudkip, determined to win the battle.

"We have to use a combination to win this, but if it ends up like Cyndaquil's combination than we'll lose….Hold on." Golen thought to himself as he realized what to do.

"Mudkip use the Whirlpool to enhance your next attack, Aqua Tail!" Golen commanded as Mudkip's tail was encased in a powerful spiral of water as it began to absorb the Whirlpool which resulted in the Aqua Tail losing its shape. "It's going to end up like before!" Carly exclaimed, worried. "Mudkip, focus! This is your strength don't let it overwhelm you!" Golen shouted as Mudkip regained its focus. "Mudkip!" Mudkip wailed as the Whirlpool successfully fused into the Aqua Tail resulting in Mudkip's tail being engulfed in a giant vortex of water.

"Go!" both trainers shouted as their Pokémon closed in for the final collision. "Mudkip!" Mudkip shouted as it dodged Pinsir's Guillotine and smashed its combined attacked right into Pinsir's face as Pinsir was caught in a powerful vortex of water. "Pinsir!" Casey shouted, surprise as Pinsir was slammed into the wall. "Mudkip!" Mudkip fiercely declared as an unconscious Pinsir lied on the ground.

"Pinsir is unable to battle! Mudkip is the winner and the victor of this Gym Battle is the Challenger, Golen!" the referee declared as Carly and the others rejoiced.

"Thanks Mudkip!" Golen happily told his Pokémon as he and the Mud Fish Pokémon shared a warm hug while Casey recalled his Pinsir. "That was a passionate pure hearted battle, you impressed Golen." Casey told the goggles-wearing trainer.

After a while Golen, Casey and the others stood outside of the Gym as Casey prepared to reward Golen with his badge. "I present to you the Insect Badge, you are an amazing trainer." Casey told the black-haired lad as he presented him a badge shaped like a green heart divided into three parts or the wings and body of an insect. "Thanks a lot, Casey. Alright, the Insect Badge is all mine!" Golen shouted in victory as he as Cyndaquil, Mudkip and Timburr cheered in union.

"Today really was a good day." Vlad happily stated as he sat in the bottom bunk of a bunk bed. "Yeah I got my 3rd Badge." Golen excitingly declared as he proudly stared at his badges.

"That was an impressive showing, hopefully the day will never come where you will end up having to overcome a rematch course." Tom told his companion as he sat in the bottom bunk of the other bed. "Don't worry, as long as I keep improving I'll never lose again!" Golen confidently stated. "Slow down there, you just won your third badge it's not like you won the league or something." Carly replied. "Yeah, but it's only a matter of time. Next time it'll be my 4th Badge and then in the end it'll be the Unova League." Golen replied. "I know you can do it, Mr. Golen." Vlad stated to his companion.

"Yeah, just wait! I'll win the League!" Golen declared as he rose to his feet on the bed. "G…Golen get down." Tom told his companion. "Oh come on I'm in the zon…..AAHH!" Golen shouted as he fell off the top bunk.
